Turley To Speak At Plenary Session Of Federalist Society Conference

Turley blogI will be speaking this morning at the plenary session of the Sixth Annual Executive Branch Review Conference of the Federalist Society.  The panel on The Deregulatory Landscape will be composed of myself, the Hon. W. Neil Eggleston, Partner, Kirkland & Ellis LLP (and former Obama White House Counsel); Todd Gaziano, Director, Center for the Separation of Powers, Pacific Legal Foundation; Philip A. Hamburger, Maurice and Hilda Friedman Professor of Law, Columbia Law School; and Prof. Jonathan Turley, J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Professor of Public Interest Law, George Washington University.  The panel will be moderated by the Hon. Greg Katsas, U.S. Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit.  The panel will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Mayflower Hotel and will be live streamed.

The panel will be discussing the concept of the Administrative State in our constitutional system and and how it is evolving, including changes in the first year of the Trump Administration.

  2. I certainly hope that Prof. Turley is not a member of that reactionary group of extremists.

      “The reality of the situation is staggering..” One of the wealthiest conservative/libertarian political donors (Charles Koch) gives grants to a public university professor who is affiliated with a Neo-confederate organization (former association with League of the South, currently with Abbeyville Institute*). The “scholar” also teaches at a private prison accused of violating federal anti-slavery law.

      *Abbeyville is the birthplace of the fierce slavery advocate, John Calhoun.

    2. Backers of an “ideological structure of a ruling class” are unAmerican.

The article includes information about connections to ALEC and the Bradley Files, an investigative project of the Center for Media and Democracy. From that article there is a link to a Koch entry which has a paragraph, “Funding Judicial Junkets”.

  5. The panel includes a Pacific Legal Foundation lawyer. Pacific was originally funded with Schaife money per the Sourcewatch site which provides info. about Pacific’s wins- cases like ending state aid to undocumented immigrants and banning affirmative action. Pacific felt compelled to explain itself, against charges that it is a tool of big business and the Koch’s (full page posted at its site). Wikipedia cites two wins for Pacific, getting bald eagles off the endangered list and strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPP). In the latter case, they took money from and the side of corporate utilities against nuclear power protests.
