Rep. Al Green (D, Tex.) has remained the most quoted Democratic member . . . . by Republicans. Green has given Republicans quotable gems to show a long-standing and unending effort to impeach Trump from his very first day in office. His most popular GOP talking point is “I’m concerned that if we don’t impeach this president, he will get reelected.” However, Green has also said recently that the House may continue to impeach Trump and has called for an array of clearly illegitimate articles of impeachment. Now, Green has given Republicans a quote to reinforce its narrative by declaring that the “genesis” of the impeachment began before Donald Trump was even elected. That is likely to be added to the top Green quotes for the upcoming Senate trial.
MSNBC host Chris Hayes seemed to be setting up Green to walk back his prior controversial comments and defuse some of his quotes being used by Republicans. He stated:
“Political expediency and insincerity — those are two charges that have been leveled against Democrats during this entire affair, particularly since September when the formal impeachment inquiry started, and you play a starring role in those charges. The argument goes like this of House Republicans and Trump and his allies: the Democrats wanted to impeach Donald Trump from day one, they cast about looking for a set of facts that they could plausibly use to do it, and all of it was pretextual and reverse-engineered to get to this point, and Exhibit One: Congressman Al Green, who [has] been calling for the man’s impeachment for two years now. What’s your response to that charge?”
It was the ultimate softball question that actually supplied the Democratic talking point in the question for the obvious answer. The only thing Hayes did not do is hold up a sign saying “Just repeat what I said.” Green proceeded however to double down.
“Well, the genesis of impeachment, to be very candid with you, was when the president was running for office and he had members of his own party to talk about his unfitness to hold office. . . So the president didn’t have the luxury of persons from his party having been on his side as it were throughout this entire ordeal.”
The result is that a question overtly designed to get Green to walk back on claims that he wanted to impeach from the first day of Trump’s Administration led to a new answer saying that it actually began before he was elected.
Here is the transcript: Hayes/Green interview
We owe Green a debt for his candor.
Hate to see poseurs standing in front of the flag of Our Constitutional Republic when they can’t even uphold their Oath of Office and take primary allegiance to a foreign ideology. .
Like Moscow Mitch? or maybe Leningrad Lindsey? The question of allegiance from Trump has been answered from Trump himself, he believes Putin.
Fishwings:
Moscow Mitch, Leningrad Lindsay.
Gosh you are clever.
Where do you come up with these witty names?
They are well known. And they do fit like a glove.
They had Al Green on TV last night talking for a long time and he had his eyes.closed almost the entire time.
I’ll bet the democrats wish they could arrest someone before a crime is committed.
I was a Cruz supporter until Trump got the nomination in2016. Almost immediately thereafter I was contacted by the #NeverTrump movement, and immediately after his election (before he was even sworn in) I was contacted by the #Resist movement. This has been going on a long time.
How does one get contacted by those movements?
Telephone… e-mail…..
Olly, if you’ve ever contributed to a candidate, filled out an online poll or survey (e.g., “should Trump be impeached”), there’s a good chance that you’re on somebody’s roster as a potential contributor or voter.
A friend worked on the campaigns of a presidential candidate in the 1980s and 1990s. He connected with this candidate due to the nature of his business ( advertising and PR) and due to the fact that they were from the same area of the state.
He said that the “data mining” projects back then were relatively undeveloped, and also mentioned that the information he’d obtained in those 2 presidential campaigns enabled him to get other clients in other campaigns looking for a roster of potential donors and voters.
He’s no longer in that business, but he mentioned how the internet made pre- internet campaigns look primitive compared to the resources available now.
There was a time when the differences between the two parties didn’t seem so consequential. But the speed with which the Democrat party has moved left towards Socialism has been astonishing. There is no way that they would be able to shift the culture of the citizen-class as rapidly. This would mean they have a large percentage of their base cutoff from the Democrat political-class and effectively without representation. What can be done with this bloc of voters that reject the totalitarian Left of the Democrat party but would never imagine voting Republican? Will they be dragged Leftward into the Socialist party, or will they ignore party politics and vote for candidates that best represent their values, regardless of party?
Olly, you should explain why that bloc of voters would ‘never imagine voting Republican’.
Denial of Climate Change? Denial of Healthcare? Denial of Gun Violence? Denial of Deficits Under Trump?
Which Denial ranks highest?
Nothing as complicated as that. They’ve just never voted anything other than a straight Democrat party ticket.
Olly,
If Buttigig somehow gets the nomination for president or VP, is it still a straight ticket?
Anonymous………and he can join the mafia, to boot!
Does belief in a Climate Change mean denial of Global warming? Oh that was just semantics. I’m a denier so does the Left want to imprison me for my opinion, Jane zFonda says yes so do a lot of Leftists who don’t know anything about the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. That said can I seek to imprison you because you deny Federal and private studies that show as gun ownership and CCW has skyrocketed crime has actually gone down? I sure would like to imprison you for that parliamentary trick to get Healthcare passed as a budget bill then had the Supreme Court declare it a tax after the President said it wasn’t a tax. He needs to go to jail for modifying a federal law since he can’t do that under the Constitution. I’ll bet a lot of folks would like to imprison leftists for raising our deductibles so high that we no longer actually have insurance just catastrophic coverage ie after 4000 or so. Some of us remember when we the working class were all covered as standard compensation and those deductibles were copay I’d 10 bucks. Thanks for that loser. You bring up Deficits really? Obama and Crew disappeared 2 Trillion dollars of tax payer money in those 8 years. His infrastructure project he later laughed about after nothing but $1 trillion disappeared and we got nothing for it. Nice to see him bail out all those union pension plans, the same unions that pay the Democratic Party for quid pro quo. You are a joke.
tRump’s history foretold it was just a matter of time only true sycophants are surprised, they need a daddy.
“I think all of our colleagues will attest,” Pelosi once told an audience at a London School of Economics event during a U.K. visit. “In those districts that are solidly Democratic. This glass of water would win with a D next to its name in those districts,” she said, picking up the water at her table. Al Green’s district would be one of those.
When it doubt Dave Barry has the answer
Dave Barry on 2019
In domestic politics, Virginia is rocked by a series of scandals involving elected Democratic state officials, originating with the publication of a 1984 photo from Gov. Ralph Northam’s medical school yearbook page showing a man in blackface. Northam initially says he is “deeply sorry” for appearing in the photo; the next day, however, he calls a press conference to declare that he does not believe he is in the photo, although he does recall one time that he WAS in blackface, that being when he entered a dance contest dressed as Michael Jackson and did the moonwalk. Northam further asserts that he won the contest, and at the request of a reporter appears to be on the verge of demonstrating to the press corps that he can still moonwalk, only to be stopped by his wife. We are not making any of this up.
As pressure builds on Northam to resign, Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax prepares to succeed him, only to become embroiled in a scandal of his own when he is accused of sexual assault. The third person in line is Attorney General Mark Herring, who, several days after calling on Northam to resign for wearing blackface, issues a statement admitting that as a college student HE wore blackface when he went to a party as rapper Kurtis Blow. We are still not making this up.
At this point Virginia’s political leaders realize that if they keep moving down the chain of succession they’re going to wind up with a Labrador retriever as governor, or, worse, a Republican. And just like that the Great Virginia Scandals of 2019 go “poof.”

Oh looky looky, a hooded coward thinks polls dictate right from wrong.
Do you wear a white hood or a grey hood with a dash of color?
You can be honest and tell us the truth since, like KKK hooded cowards, prefer to be anonymous.

M.J. Michaels: You should have just looked up Northam’s most recent poll numbers. He’s doing better with Blacks than Whites. 55% of Blacks approve of Ralph vs 44% of Whites.
Tell us why only racists would want those poll numbers revealed. And are Blacks just ‘ignorant’ to stay with Northam?

The answer is White Hood but in your case with a tin hat. You’ll place that on your head after you anonymously hang a few people and later claim the people are with you
🥳
We knew that, but JT, is this a surprise to you?
Quotes like these have to surprise intelligent Democrats, like JT, because they are rational, thoughtful people who happen align themselves with a given political party. My guess is that JT comes from a long line of FDR, JFK Democrats who loved this country and had simple disagreements with Republicans. My guess is that is does continually surprise Democrats like JT when they see verifiable truths of the lengths the current lot of Democrats are willing to go to oppose a Republican president. The only question I have is, is what we’re seeing a natural progression of the Democrat Party, as evidenced by the representatives they elect, that would’ve occurred in response to any Republican president, or does Donald J. Trump bring out the worst in them?
I don’t understand this animosity towards President Trump. It’s got to be jealousy and the fact that he is a threat to their power. He’s got a great family, not involved in scandals, and one of the most beautiful and intelligent First Lady.
“I’m concerned that if we don’t impeach this president, he will get reelected.”
Al Green might not be the brightest crayon in the box but let’s give Al Green an award for honesty.
You print that as though it’s newsworthy. Rep Green merely points out that charlatans and snake oil salesmen and provocateurs have always been part of the American story, and have never been worthy of more than being flushed from the public square.
Green continues to unwrap and reveal the clear intentions of his “Fifth Column”. This is an unequivocal threat to our Republic and our Constitution. He and his ilk need to be repudiate in 2020, lest slide into anarchy. Time to engage the brain, America!
The Democrats are and have been afraid of what Pres. Trump may find, that the did under Pres. Obama and Sec. Clinton, and they are very nervous about Barr and Durham, for what they will find and expose against the Dem’s, Clinton, Obama, Brennan, Biden, and etc. and the $$$$$ questions of all that supposed aid that went to Ukraine under Obama and who ended up with it, sticky fingers? Green has been honest from the start of his and the Dem’s intent. The Democratic party needs a wholesale change of leadership and washing their hands of the Clinton’s and their friends
How about we discuss a better, more talented, more worthwhile Al Green. Leave this guy to his GEICO commercials:
The Democrats of the last decade are not about sound and thoughtful policy. Democrats only care about power and control, most often obtained through smear campaigns and an unholy alliance with the Press. They use emotional machinations and false promises to get elected, then enrich themselves at the tax-payers expense. Most recently we have seen the Obama’s buy $15MM mansions in private enclaves and Hunter Biden become famously wealthy while his father was Vice President. Though the Press tries to hide this abuse of power, Americans are smarter than the Press.
SBG:
” … Americans are smarter than the Press.”

Love the implicit message here. Plus its fun knowing most anybody is.
It is getting too difficult to even take the democrat party seriously these days. They continually present themselves as self-serving thugs willing to do anything to maintain power and the largess that springs from it. Pathetic to watch at this point.
