CNN’s Stelter Praises Pelosi For “Attention-Grabbing Tactics”

We recently discussed the highly inappropriate conduct of Speaker Nancy Pelosi in changing the traditional greeting of a president at the State of the Union, engaging in facial demonstrations of disapproval behind the President during the address, and ripping up the address in protest of the president from the Speaker’s chair. The outrageous conduct shattered decades of tradition of Speakers remaining neutral as representatives of the entire House, not just their own party. CNN’s chief media correspondent Brian Stelter, however, sees no pressing issue of principle or propriety. The only most pressing question for Stelter was whether it worked and he praised Pelosi for stealing the media attention at any cost. He is not alone in the coverage. This purely consequentialist view of the issues is precisely why we are living through this age of rage. The measure of Pelosi’s shocking conduct is simply whether it worked to dominate the coverage.

The analysis on CNN quickly brushed over the fact that Pelosi’s conduct was rude and disrespectful. It did not matter whether it is appropriate for a speaker to adopt a purely partisan stance and abandon the tradition of neutrality. Instead, Stelter declared

“It was unprecedented behavior for a speaker, aggressively rude and unapologetically meant to rile up her base. It was divisive, but effective. It took the Democrats three years, but they may have finally figured out how to control a news cycle in the Trump era.”

In other words, Pelosi finally “figured out how to control a news cycle” by abandoning all sense of tradition and propriety as Speaker. What is interesting is the he, and others, are celebrating Pelosi acting like Trump while denouncing how Trump acts. He then simply brushed aside the correctness of the conduct:

“Ripping up a piece of paper is only a big story if members of the media decide to make it a big story, and if members of the public respond by reading and watching and reacting. Whether these attention-grabbing tactics are in the best interest of the country, well, that’s a debate that requires more than one TV segment worth of time. Producers would rather move on to the next controversy instead.”

Would this have been the take on the story if a Republican speaker had refused to appropriately greet President Barack Obama, made faces behind his back, and then ripped up his address at the end of the State of the Union with the President standing before her?

Various shoes on MSNBC and CNN instead seemed to share the thrill of Pelosi using her position to denigrate and disrespect the President. It is treated not as a matter of ethics but solely one of effectiveness.

  1. Jonny, you have the nerve to castigate Pelosi and her appropriate ripping up of the Trump hogwash without one post on the deplorable actions/speech Trump gave at the National “Prayer” Breakfast? How one-sided can you be?

    1. Venue is the relevant context that you guys keep missing. Seems like talking to kids about this topic.

I dont agree with all the garbage i have ever heard in church but i never stood up and ripped a copy of the sermon. And I’ve been places where they passed out copies and they were trash.

I just sat quietly with respect for the venue and occasion.

    2. You rather obviously avoided the whole context of where and when Pelosi’s act was done. It was not at a prayer breakfast. It was not
It was in then Nation’s capital at the State of the Union address. There is great tradition here, and it is regarded as a significant event. The whole point of Mr. Turley’s article, was that she was negating the sense of decorum and discipline that the event has traditionally required from the party not in power. He also said he was unhappy with President Trump. But, the acts of Pelosi took this to a whole new level–never seen before. If you are OK with this behavior, or justify it, then do not say anything when the shoe is on the other foot.

Been a bad week for the visiting team, eh? Acquittal, Nancy the Ripper, Iowa arithmetic, a great SOTU and now you’re relegated to some feigned outrage over an event you wouldn’t attend with the promise of free mimosas and a discount hooker upstairs. Must suck being a radical. You know, having to lie about respecting religion. Btw, Trump garnered widespread applause over croissants and oj.

  2. Pelosi is not the only one involved in attention seeking antics.

Pelosi For Prison Banner Flown Over Her San Francisco District

It calls for Pelosi to be locked up for her “crimes against America.”

Liberals in San Francisco were immediately triggered Thursday morning by the sight of an impossible-to-miss 25-foot by 80-foot “Pelosi for Prison” banner flying in the spy upon the left-wing stronghold.

    “I’m flying a #PelosiForPrison banner around @SpeakerPelosi’s district today!
Her lawlessness, ignorance and corruption have gone on for too long!”

The banner, paid for by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Republican opponent, DeAnna Lorraine, directs those who see it to a petition, located at PelosiForPrison.co, which calls for Pelosi to be jailed for her “crimes against America.” With the banner coming just a day after President Donald Trump’s acquittal in the Pelosi-driven impeachment hearings, it is a sign that some conservatives are moving off of the defensive, and instead focusing on offensive attacks against left-wing figures like Pelosi.

Speaking with Big League Politics, Lorraine states that the banner was a part of her plan to expose Pelosi’s record while in the Congress, along with her “egregious crimes against America.”

“I am running for Congress to clean out the corruption that is Nancy Pelosi. Instead of caring for the people of San Francisco and advancing their issues on a national scale, she spends her time conducting asinine impeachments and investigations that amount to absolutely nothing” said DeAnna. “It’s past time we start
hitting her hard on her record of poor leadership and egregious crimes against America, and I look very much forward to retiring her in November.”

This banner definitely gets that message across, and surely has Nancy Pelosi shaking with rage.

  3. The hysterical and incoherent Feminazi White Shirt communists abide by the Marxist dictum, “The ends justify the means.” They adhere to no morality, code of ethics, etiquette or protocol. They do whatever it takes to obtain power for power’s sake out of delusions of grandeur, superiority and domination. The inevitable malignant and lethal fallout of their ascendance is a fertility rate in a “death spiral” – the dilution into extinction of a population – the death of a nation.

There is a reason the American Founders required citizens to be “…free white person(s)…” and voters to be male, European, 21 and worth 50 lbs. Sterling or 50 acres. That reason is calm, intelligible, harmonious and homogeneous self-governance.
