We have previously discussed the efforts of the Democratic establishment and some in the media to (again) derail the presidential campaign of Sen. Bernie Sanders, including the raw bias against Sanders shown by CNN reporter Abby Phillip in a prior presidential debate. Now, with Sanders’ victory in New Hampshire and rising polls, figures from both politics and media are putting on a full-court press to stop Sanders. Everyone from James Carville to MSNBC’s Chris Matthews are sounding alarms over Sanders. His victory last night was called the “doomsday scenario” by a Democratic Super PAC. The most shocking was MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd who used a quote form a columnist to compare Sanders supporters to Nazi brown-shirted thugs. It is a technique used before by Todd who reads letters or quotes from others to preserve the patina of neutrality like his recent attack on Trump supporters.
Sanders is not just surging with young people but now surging in national polls ahead of the preferred candidate of the establishment, Joe Biden. On his show, Todd decided to curiously connect the Democratic Socialist with National Socialists in terms of his followers. Todd stated
“Hey I want to bring up something that Jonathan Last put in The Bulwark today. It was about how—and Ruth, we’ve all been on the receiving end of the Bernie online brigade—here’s what he says: He says ‘no other candidate has anything like this sort of digital brownshirt brigade. I mean, except for Donald Trump.’ . . . I know everybody’s freaking out about his, but you saw the MAGA rally that’s prepared around here,” Todd continued. “There are people coming from three or four states on that, that’s real… This is like Bernie.”
He is not alone. The coverage of Sanders remains slanted and negative. His victory is only begrudging acknowledged by some while immediately suggesting that he does not have broad base support.
What is interesting is how such biased reporting can cause a backlash. Many people resented how the media seemed in a uniform drumbeat for Hillary Clinton in 2016. For voters who want to see a challenge to the Washington establishment, the media bias only worked to the advantage of Donald Trump.
It may have the same impact in favor of Bernie Sanders. The fact is that voters like Sanders because he is viewed as authentic — something that they do not associate with either the establishment in politics or the media. The one thing you cannot say about Sanders is that he is scripted conventional politicians who like Biden and Clinton has changed many positions with the poll. It has never been popular to hold socialist views, but Sanders has remained. You have to respect him for that. Voters sense that he is exactly as he appears and not constantly reinvented by political handlers. That is why Chuck Todd and others are fueling, not deterring, support for Sanders.
“We’re All in This Together: A Case for Not Giving Up on the American Dream”
https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/john_whiteheads_commentary/were_all_in_this_together_a_case_for_not_giving_up_on_the_american_d
We are all doomed regardless of who is president
Drudge Report:
1 in 3 American workers run out of money before payday…
Household Debt Exceeds $14 Trillion for First Time…
Credit-Card Crazy…
Fed chief issues stark warning to Congress on deficits…
Might lack ammo to combat next recessission
Only doomed if you failed to plan for it in which case bark at the moon.
Please hide your money under the mattress, your head in the sand, and Please don’t vote!
I tend to believe that the propensity to overspend by Members of Congress has its genesis in the over-spending habits of the general public, yet with Congress it tends to be more insidious since they are not spending their own money. To many federal politicians the debt or deficit spending is more of an abstraction having little present consequence. One should hold an expectation of politicians that they should know better than to spend what they do not have when it offers no investment potential. Unfortunately, there is a similar analogue in a person of little financial discipline buying a widescreen t.v. at 25% interest because they want to watch the Superbowl in HDD or a politician that can lock up a big win with the voters. But with the politician they are safe because they lavished them with free shit and pork barrel spending. The ordinary person gets raked over the coals, their assets seized and forced into a receivership. Tomorrow never comes it seems. Unfortunately the system is such that the bankrupt citizen gets raked over the coals but the politician just gets elected to another term. At some point we need to take responsibility for ourselves as a society.
Great post Darren. It’s a conversation that we need to have because it really goes to the heart of our political system. I see 3 basic components of this: 1. Article 1 Section 8 constitutional powers 2. Spending 3. Taxation.
That should be the order with which a budget is considered. What should the government be doing. How much do they need to do it and lastly, how are the citizens to be taxed to pay for it.
The American people have ignorantly allowed Congress to blow right through the first priority. Instead of us (them) debating what is a federal program, what is a state program and most importantly, what should be the responsibility of the citizen (self-reliance), politicians bribe citizens for votes and then proceeded to push for spending that leads to reelection.
The bottom line is that citizens have become addicted to government spending. They’ve become apathetic to what is being spent as long as they don’t feel the pain of it.
The 3-legged stool of self-government is:
1. Civics literacy
2. Civics engagement
3. Self-reliance
On the bright side, I believe our low point on all 3 was leading up to the 2016 election. Like the addict, we needed an intervention. I see President Trump winning as that intervention. 🙂
Funny how the media that gave Trump free advertising worth billions, and Trump made them money. are just as quick to knock out anybody that hurts their bottom line.
Even funnier that you make no sense at all. Not common, Not objective but I forgot abut subjective which is an unsupported fairy tail.
“The most shocking was MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd who used a quote form a columnist to compare Sanders supporters to Nazi brown-shirted thugs.”
Trump supporters are called this very thing daily on your blog, but of course this is new to you
shocking! Shocking!
go suck on a lemon, Purfurssur Turdley, and wake the f8ck up
so you mean to say one the national socialist brown shirts looked in the mirror and described himself. So what. Nothing new there. If he hadn’t it would be a small matter to change brown to black. Same shirt different color same Comrade Collective.
Turley wrote: “The most shocking was MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd who used a quote form a columnist to compare Sanders supporters to Nazi brown-shirted thugs. To ‘preserve the patina of neutrality’…bahahahaha omg stop. None of them are neutral and they don’t even try to hide it anymore! I say the most shocking thing is that Chuck Todd was ever hired for MTP in the first place. He doesn’t even have a college degree. These talking heads are not particularly smart people. The next most shocking is the complete wack job Nicole Wallace. There is seriously something wrong with that woman. She’s unwatchable and unlistenable – that voice?!! And then there’s the rest of the nincompoops on BSNBC, they all make my head hurt. Katie Tur? OMG.
Of all the democrats Sanders is the only one not owned by the deep state and oligarchy and not beholden to the now inherited Clinton machine. Sanders is the only one not being groomed for the job by those that will have their power base disrupted if he gets in. Sanders is in some ways worse of a nightmare for them than Trump. This is why they will take anyone, including Bloomie, who can be influenced versus Sanders who just seems to march to his own drummer. Like his policies or not, that’s not the real issue. It’s power and who gets to control the office with a veto, and who has the bully pulpit of the office. Pure and simple if Bernie is in the Davos crowd is sidelined and that’s their worst nightmare.
Forget the labels like socialism. Forget the debates and talking points. It’s about power and hanging onto it at all costs. This includes rigging the app in the Iowa primary, failing to accurately tally the results and make needed corrections, and now the smoke over NH. Look at what they did with Bloomie. They had him sitting on the sidelines and when Sanders started gaining traction they brought him in and changed the rules for elligibility at the last minute to accomodate his entrance. Then they started pushing up Pete after Liz managed to annihilate herself with her own bow and arrow. They will do anything to get anyone else in there but Bernie.
It’s time for people to wake up and realize it’s not about D vs R, left or right, it’s about the Davos crowd and the deep state and the hijacking of the country and the constant foreign wars to generate cash flow and the massive printing of money versus the common man, the people like us who bother to write posts on websites, and who are both D and R and quite possibly headed to Boston for another tea party. The D’s and R’s have been hijacked with the D’s having been totally hijacked for decades since the 1940’s. This goes way back people. If you don’t get that study up and look at who worked with whom and where and when and you’ll see it’s the same crowd that killed Kennedy and took a shot at RR.
They want you to be stupid, they want you to stay politically correct, they want you to believe the media narrative and they want you to stay home, get fat, and sit in front of some stupid TV watching their BS entertainment. You’re getting sucked, milked, and held in a pen of your own mind. Get off your effen couches, start reading up, and I mean reading everthing, including the lamestream media, start figuring out what is the BS narrative, where it’s coming from and who is generating it. It’s not that hard but you have to get off your arse and do it. Get smart. Don’t just believe stuff, go ask people you know who are there. If it’s China find someone who is there. If it’s Russia, go meet some Russians. Get the foxtrot out there and do your own work and open your mind.
Sanders is not all that and a bag of chips. But he is the worst nightmare of those who would have put Hillary in as their proxy to continue the Clinton machine selling out of America, of you, me and the man behind the tree.
Yes, well said.
You could have written the same essay about Karl Marx.
you underestimate how well billlonaires function under socialism.
China is full of billionaires who are literally communist party members
as for Davos, I watched every minute of Wang Qishan’s address to Davos on behalf of Comrade Xi, did you?
The softball questions they asked him afterwards were pathetic. They cant wait to suck up to them!
Trust me the PRC cadres can work with Davos, and vice versa
AG Barr, Durham etc. will expose everything the deep state has been doing for 4 years, in this election year.

What the deep state swamp has been doing is helping Trump get elected in 2016 and 2010. I doubt that Barr or Durham will reveal that fact (or much of anything else)
Why would Obama’s swamp want to help elect President Trump?
Why would Obama’s swamp want to help elect President Trump?

Pretty much the same reason trump’s swamp supported Obama
Except you are as usual like most imitators unable to state a reason other than Comrade Pelosi told me so. Ee iI eE Ii oh oh!
Except you are as usual like most imitators unable to state a reason

The reason is Trump is a huge benefit to the swamp,,,
A much greater greater benefit that Obama ever was
The swamp is loving every minute of the trump presidency.
They don’t. But they are too arrogant to admit to being that stupid so it’s a matter of the Fallacy of Imitative Form. They keep repating the same BS and have been since 1898 and 1909
They don’t.

Ha ha ha
Too slow, you already exposed your flank. Game over.
What the deep state swamp has been doing is helping Trump get elected in 2016 and 2010.
Not much different than the Intolerable Acts helped the American colonists gain independence.
I doubt that Barr or Durham will reveal that fact (or much of anything else)
Then you need better sources.

“Sources” are useless…
Only because they are so blatantly crooked and arrogantly stupid it’s driving voters to support a Constitutionalist President and for that we should thank those who are self immolating.
AG Barr, Durham etc. will expose everything the deep state has been doing for 4 years, in this election year.

? fallacy of imitiative form demonstrated for all to ponder.
But esteemed party member comrade kommissar Sanders was going to give me a free pony?
JT, Sanders is authentic in exactly the way Obama was authentic. I think it might be useful to read Jared Beck’s book: “What happened to Bernie Sanders”. Beck and his wife are suing the DNC on behalf of 2016 Bernie supporters some of whom gave up meals to donate to his campaign. Bernie has never stood up for any of those people who were robbed of their money. He did get a nice house for supporting Clinton though! He’s as real as a 4 dollar bill!
Todd is just playing a part. It’s a script. Yes, it is despicable because of what it is doing to divide the American people. Whatever happens, Bernays Sanders will be just fine. However, the destruction of our society will fall upon most of its members, be they MAGA or Bernie “Brown Shirts”. I really think we need to keep the eye on the ball here.
Presidential campaigns are Political WWW and nothing more. Here is a quote from Beck: “the #Rigged system that Sen. Sanders chose to take part in (again). Were you paying attention in 2016? If so, you already know how the game is played.
When Obama “beat” HRC in this system, he proceeded to put children in cages. Why do people put their faith in it?”
Change isn’t coming from the Trump savior or the Bernie savior. It will come from the people if we can stop playing the oligarchy’s game.
Jill, if you think oligarchy is going to go away, you are naive. They must be, and only can be, contained. It’s in human nature that some will be more powerful than others.
Go back and watch “Mr Smith Goes to Washington” from what, 1939?
LIke Trump, Bernie speaks from the heart, with authenticity. They are both deal-making politicians, but I appreciate their verbal sincerity and it rings truly.
Obama authentic? When he supported same sex marriage or when he opposed it? When he opposed a healthcare mandate or when he opposed it?
Unlike Bernie, I can find video of Obama taking the opposite side of almost every issue.
Bernie is full of crap albeit sincere crap
lets get over the fear and loathing of Socialism…it is a major part of our political system….37 states receive more tax dollars than they send to Washington….mostly red southern states. 13 states, mostly blue, pay the bills for the other 37. “from each according to their ability to each according to their needs”…Ky gets 7.2$ for each 1 they send DC. its the commie marching tune. from a Libertarian who wishes a zombie apocalypse on both the Ds and the Rs. If you doubt this do your own research.
Please show me a free, and successful country with socialism as its guiding light.
see above
To make it simple the best example that comes the closest is New Zealand but they are just as fiercely independent in doing so the world misses they will smack their leaders with bat if they dare step out of line
Before you can get over the ‘fear and loathing of (it)’, you should first try to understand it. Socialism isn’t a large welfare state. No matter how much you try to pretend that’s all it is, Europe, Sweden, Denmark, et. al, are not “Socialist” systems. They are capitalist systems, with larger-than-our welfare states. In Socialist systems (e.g. Cuba, Venezuela, the former Soviet Union) the state controls the means of production, and pretty much every aspect of people’s lives. Stop the semantic games, don’t try to make a horrible idea palatable by pretending it’s something it isn’t.. the US should *avoid* Socialism at all costs. We can argue about how much, if any, welfare state we want to have. but when honest language and facts are applied, Americans don’t, and never will support actual “Socialism.” It’s a sad sign of just how poor our education system has become that so many (mostly younger) Americans cannot appreciate the very real difference, and make informed decisions.
Pure socialism is impossible. the USSR showed as much very quickly reverting back to the uses of markets in the “New Economic Plan” of Lenin. If the experiment was not clear, Mao’s Great Famine proved the point.
Socialism however can be a matter of degree. War production is inherently socialistic. So is welfare. We have more socialism now than we had 100 years ago but we survive. Capitalism has never existed without some central state to protect property rights, which are the civil foundation of all well functioning markets.
Moreover in a complex financial economy, property rights become, um, well, complicated! So regulation steps in to establish moderate order in the chaos. Or not!
Socialism is not a bogeyman for me. Some governments which are more socialist than others, function well nonetheless, because they have very good people in the nation. Without good people, the form of government is a secondary issue. The relative quality of humans matters.
But none of them survived except the dregs and dross and incompetent airheads like Ocasio Castro.
Or in ’28, President O.C.
nice response massive over kill simple fact that the government takes our money and gives it to folks who have no right to it. I like SS and medicare…but I have paid in literally for over 60 years….flourish your word games…doesn’t change the bottom line of what I believe. perfectly willing to admit being wrong….but I don’t believe I am.
It is no part of our political system and never has been just like our Constitutional Republic is in no way an ‘our democracy,’ Except in the minds of the Marxist Leninst left stream media.
The majority of Americans can thank a socialist called FDR for the success they used to have before sir ronald of the house of ray guns and demoRat Clinton. It is called the New Deal. Bernie is nothing more than a FDR New Deal real Democrat. The first socialist said “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God”.
It is true FDR enacted socialism style programs, but overall, he saved American capitalism. There is little doubt about this.
I have never heard anything so absurd. General Secretary Roosevelt forced free Americans to be enslaved by the requirements for Social Security, Medicare and an infinite and ever-increasing number of new programs of benefits, entitlements and redistribution to dependents and parasites. You MUST read Witness by Whitaker Chambers and get back to us. It’s merit that matters amidst the competition of free enterprise. It’s funny how Roosevelt’s communist State Department, which participated in the Obama Coup D’etat in America, lives on to this day.
You don’t grasp America or American freedom. The Founders didn’t allow parasites and dependents to vote and never intended for them to ever vote. The Founders established a nation without a trace of the current unconstitutional welfare state.
Sergeant, your sabai is showing as is your treason against the U.S. Constitution and incomprehensible desire to be enslaved by communism rather than free. You are in the wrong country. America is the land of the free and communism is anti-American and unconstitutional. Why don’t you relocate and be happy. China, Cuba and North Korea are waiting to put you to work and take your money.
Franklin Roosevelt was a communist who used the men at Pearl Harbor as bait to satisfy his war lust. Roosevelt wouldn’t know an economy if it slapped him in the face. Roosevelt’s idiotic actions were the reason parasitic Americans “believed” they needed General Secretary Roosevelt. Roosevelt created a self-fulfilling prophecy which parasites and dependents bit on, hook, line and sinker. For an economy to be healthy, it merely needs to be free; to innovate and compete. An economy and Mr. Market do not, I say again, do not need any human being. Human intervention fundamentally transformed a recession into a “Great Depression.” Mr. Market, for damn sure, did not do that. You’re a dependent personality and afraid to endeavor on your own. The American thesis is: Freedom and Self-Reliance. You didn’t get the memo. You should get a plane ticket. Oh, and your entire welfare state and proposals for more benefits and entitlements are unconstitutional, but then, you communists nullified the Constitution a long time ago, didn’t you?
Sgt Sabai,
Did the “first socialist” own three residences, and was he a millionaire?
When Bernie gets up and talks here are many sections of the nation where American voters cringe and hate the dialogue this guy puts out. Thirty Third Street and Third Avenue in NYC are pronounced: Turdy Turd and a Turd by Bernie.
The funny thing is, if the DNC had ran a normal primary in 2016 instead of a coronation, Bernie never would have had an opening to the mainstream.
Good point there, Brad. They are the author of their own demise.
Brad, its the nature of the Democrat party and it has been for a long time. As much as it pretends to emerge from the Demos, it actually follows the tune played by the plutocratic piper.
The question is: How well will he do on Super Tuesday?
Bloomberg and Mayor Pete split the moderate vote. Bernie will come out on top. Bookmark this and tell me if I was wrong, or not!
Very well could happen. We’ll see.
I think nobody will get a majority. There will be a contested election. Super delegates seeking a billion or two investment from Bloomberg will make him the nominee. He is a twerp busybody and anti-second Amendment but at least he was a competent businessman and Mayor – more than any of the rest. Maybe they put Bernie on as VP to prevent him going third-party. Interesting times.
Meanwhile Trump wins no matter who they put up. The difference is that with Bloomberg funding them – essentially a buy-out from the control of the Soros left to a more mainstream liberal party – they have the money to compete in the house, senate and presidency while with Bloomberg out the DNC is broke, the party divided anyway and nobody with brains will donate a dime to a party cruising for a brusing.
Look on the bright side – the debates between Sanders and the President will be for the ages. Stock up on popcorn in the meantime.
If so,I look forward to a straightforward Right/Left campaign which is really where it should be in this day and age.
Get these people a Dictionary/ History book and circle the Meaning/ Results of a Socialist Society… Venezuela would be a good Example!
People who support Bernie’s positions are like the man who jumped off the roof of a twenty story building. As the man passed the tenth floor he thought,, “So far so good.”
Unwoke:
So funny. And it’s never the fall. It’s the abrupt ending that does you in.
Don’t be so sure of victory,. Trump must turn out voters in phalanxes. It’s up to us to begin registering new voters for Trump, indoctrinating of the grave stakes at hand, and corralling them to the polls on the fateful day.
In this struggle, the neck you save, may be your own!
I agree. However the media are too Arrogant for self reflection
Go Bernie. Go! We need an 19th Century failed philosophy to guide us and a guy who was around for its inception!
When Buttigieg made his post-NH speech yesterday, he took a jab at Sander’s age. He was sort of congratulating him on his success and remarked how he remembers his politics from back in his high school days. 🙂
Olly:
Saw that. Imagine the jab Bernie could make!
He’s on the clock.
mespo – didn’t he win an essay contest for writing about Bernie’s politics. Mayor Petey is going to have a rough time in SC or any place there is a ;large black population. If Mayor Petey wins the nomination, Trump will get 50% of the black vote.
Paul:
Petey is DOA at the convention but he’s fun until then. He gets no respect in the black community that I can see. He’s a bit “odd” for that constituency.
He’s a “bit odd” for any constituency! He’s humanoid. He’s not relatable at all. The gay thing is secondary to how phony and unrelatable he is.
Mayor Pete was, according to what I have heard, an ignominious nerd in high school, ie, a geek. I read an essay by one of his neighbors who said that he never came outside to play with the other children on the block. Which if fact checkers want to verify, was a street name beginning with the letter M.
But, Butt, he probably remembers his communist expert professor father prattling on at the dinner table about him, who knows!
I would bet that they were fans of Chumpsky.
It seems that he is pretty far to the right of where his father was, however. Or else the billionaires would not be funding him with “wine cave dinners.”
I’m interested to see how Pete and Bloomberg compete against each other. Bloomberg was one of his mentors, I tell you. The Mayor’s Gun Control outfit, was the connection, not sure the precise name of that foolish enterprise.
I read an essay by one of his neighbors who said that he never came outside to play with the other children on the block.
Pete and the other candidates have been doing just that since this primary season began. They’ve been sequestered inside their Left Wing bubble and haven’t really been challenged by many on the outside. Everything has been debated within the confines of their big tent. I don’t see Pete or Amy, or really any of them stepping outside that tent and successfully face tough questions.
Sounds like Sanders has got Professor Turley’s peanut gallery running scared

After 4 years of malicious prosecutions, spying, leaking and negative press, President Trump is more popular than ever. Democrats and their far left base have major problems. They don’t have a platform recognizable to the majority of Americans. They don’t have a candidate capable of defeating Trump in the general election. They are going to lose the House and more seats in the Senate as well. And the clincher; AG Barr, Durham etc. will expose everything the deep state has been doing for 4 years, in this election year.
This is going to be a great year!
I didn’t know there was an ‘L’ in that word.
