Washington Post Headline “Amplifies” Concerns Over Double Standard On Biden Sexual Assault Allegation

The headline was seen by critics of the double standard being applied to the Biden allegation.  It raises similar objections to how Democratic leaders and commentators spent years protecting Bill Clinton from an array women alleging everything from sexual harassment to rape.  A more obvious headline would be “Two Additional Witnesses Come Forward To Support Biden Accuser.”

It is important to note that columnists and reporters like Washington Post reporter Matt Viser do not write headlines or approve them.

There has been an almost universal spin in the media to portray the Biden allegation as a political story of how Republicans are seeking to use the story against him.  There is a true element to that story. However, the disconnect with the Kavanaugh coverage is quite extraordinary.  There was little equivocation in either the headlines or the stories.

The disconnect is even more striking among Democratic leaders.  I previously wrote on the position of Democratic senators, before Christine Blasey Ford even testified, that they believed her and opposed Kavanaugh.  That was an allegation from high school that had not been previously voiced in public.  Yet, Democratic senator denounced anyone who did not believe Ford based solely on her account. Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, declared that all men need to “shut up”:

“Not only do women like Dr. Ford, who bravely come forward, need to be heard, but they need to be believed. Guess who’s perpetuating all of these kinds of actions? It’s the men in this country, and I just want to say to the men of this country to shut up and step up. Do the right thing for a change.”

Other Democratic senators could not go public any faster with immediate support for Ford as a clear victim.  Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn). stated “Let me just say right at the outset: I believe, Dr. Ford. I believe the survivor here.”  Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., NY) declared “I believe her. Many, many, many Americans believe her. Many, many women in America who have been taken advantage of certainly believe her.”  Sen. Kirsten GIllibrand (D., NY) said “I believe her because she’s telling the truth.”

A wide array of members demanded that the Congress must believe women who raise such allegations or they are abusing these victims.  Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who just endorsed Biden yesterday, attacked those who did not simply accept the word of Ford: “Senate Republicans chose to send a clear message to all women: do not speak out, and if you do – do not expect to be heard, believed or respected.”

Reade specifically struck out at Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Cal.), who was one of the most vocal politicians demanding that Ford’s allegations be accepted and Kavanaugh rejected.  Reade stated “Kamala Harris is my representative and I reached out to her for help. No response.”  She also blasted Hillary Clinton, who Reade says she supported in past elections, for endorsing Biden. In an apparent reference to Bill Clinton Reade added “Hillary Clinton has a history of enabling powerful men to cover up their sexual predatory behaviors and their inappropriate sexual misconduct.”

At the time (and today with regard to the Biden accusations) I was concerned about the lack of a presumption of innocence before any testimony had even occurred.  After telling all men everywhere to “shut up” and just stand with Ford, Hirano was pressed on whether Kavanaugh has “the same presumption of innocence as anyone else in America?” For most people, the question would be an easy one to answer in the affirmative, Hirono demurred and declined to say that she would afford Kavanaugh this core presumption of the rule of law. She said that she would “put his denial in the context of everything that I know about him in terms of how he approaches his cases.” She said that she would consider his “ideological agenda” and her view that “he very much is against women’s reproductive choice.”

Once again, I have always maintained that women need to be heard and taken seriously in raising these allegations.  I have also objected to those who would toss aside due process and simply accept accusations without investigation. Notably, while most are remaining silent and refusing to respond to media inquiries, some Democrats are now adopting that approach for Biden and, rather than saying that Reade must be believed, they are now saying that she must be heard.  Biden supporter Alyssa Milano tweeted out “I hear and see you, Tara.”  She notably did not say “I believe you,” in sharp contrast with the Ford allegation.  During the Kavanaugh hearing, some of us were slammed for not treating the Ford allegations as per se dispositive.

However, there is no denying the fact that the many in media and the Democratic leadership have, again, adopted a sharply different approach to a story where a leading Democrat is accused of sexual assault.  There was no equivocation and circumspection during the Kavanaugh controversy. The spin is staggering and the silence is deafening.

  1. Of course we could use the republican handbook, Why did she only come out now? Why didn’t she go to the police? Why are there slight variations in a story being recalled by different people after 25 years? Thats what was said by republicans on Christine Blasey Ford. And of course, if another woman comes forward to back her up, then attack her too.

    1. Because of the time factor I am skeptical about both claims. However Ford had no tangible evidence and Reade has tangible evidence from a multiplicity of people and other things. Ford’s own witnesses turned out not to agree with Ford. That hasn’t yet happened with Reade.

At the very least the same attention should be paid to Reade as was paid to Ford, even more because the proof is greater. The real problem is not the legal question at hand rather the double standard we are seeing from the media and the Democrats.

  2. The double standard for the Left shines brightly yet again. Why is there all this unrelated spam in the comments. Are you Democrats trying to deflect again?

  4. WHY I CHICKENED-OUT”

    A Seth Warner Exclusive

Yesterday I aspired to post feature profiles of every woman accusing Donald Trump of Sexual Misconduct.  I got no further than # 8 when furious puppets threatened to riot.  That’s when Professor Turley came out on his porch to yell at everyone.

Apparently the profiles rankled such a backlash the Professor heard it from his library.  My apologies!  So instead of finishing the profiles, I went home and chilled.

One can’t say Tara Reade deserves  mainstream coverage while ignoring Trump Accusers.  It doesn’t work that way.  If we accept Tara Reade needs to be heard, than ‘all’ Trump Accusers deserve the same coverage.

Donald Trump, in his prime, looked like movie star.  For years Trump’s name was synonymous with wealth and glamour.  So one presumes many women were receptive to Trump.

Those 20 Accusers could be just a few sour apples among 500 women.  But some guys fail to realize when their prime has passed.  The current Trump looks maniacal compared to his former self.  Trump’s father aged that way; appearing eccentric in later years.

Regarding Judge Kavanaugh, I was reluctant to comment on his alleged interaction with Blassy-Ford.  We cant lower the bar too much for decades-old accusations.  I was, however, intrigued by all those baseball tickets Kavanaugh charged to his credit cards.

It turned out Judge Kavanaugh is strictly middleclass by Washington beltway standards.  So it was unusual he had charged over $60,000 to his credit cards for Washington Nationals baseball tickets.

One has to wonder about a Judge taking on such debt load for love of baseball.  Kavanaugh, it appeared, was treating all his buddies to group seating.  ‘Was he that hard up for friends?’  I wish Democrats had focused on that debt instead of Blassy-Ford.

If Democrats decide to drop Joe Biden as their nominee, I’d be okay with that.  Realistically Joe Biden is too old to ever run for reelection.

If Republicans decide to drop Trump as their nominee, that would be quite wise.  This pandemic revesls Trump as precisely the buffoon critics long described.

Republicans should nominate Mitt Romney; a known and trusted brand, as Trump’s replacement; a special Pandemic Nominee.

In a worst case scenario Romney suffers modest defeat.  But Republicans keep the Senate while mitigating losses in the House.

I believe Joe Biden would be vulnerable against a candidate saner than Trump.  Then Tara Reade might matter.

    1. The Arch of Ba’al was displayed on the National Mall the same time the Hearing for Kavanaugh was going on…interesting, a Moloch bull has been erected next to the Colosseum in Rome.

And then the BoHo Grove has that Owl, looks like Minerva, but they claim it is Moloch.

Its bc TPTB were cheapos and couldn’t afford the Bull. 🤡😉😄

      I make myself laugh here.

      1. There is also some Wikileaks email talking about sacrificing a chicken to Moloch. Say What!? And some Spirit Cooking party with Maria Abramovic and Podesta brothers, differenr email.

Microsoft had to pull the new ad with Maria Abramovic in it bc ppl objected to it.

Some writers prefer innuendo to solid reporting:
Is $60,000 a lot of money for perhaps one’s only passion when the family income is $313,000 and there is ~$500,000 in a retirement account? Even if the loan was for only one year it is affordable. If tucked onto his mortgage that would be well below a customary rate so the loan is not a problem at all. However, libel seems to run rampant on the left even to those of the highest order of respect that are center left but stray from the reservation. Alan Dershowitz is one and our host is another.

Kavanaugh earned his money through his hard work and study. There is nothing wrong with that.

Compare Kavanaugh to the Biden Family who spends money based on type of quid pro quo while Biden was representing the United States though some say he was representing his family.

It seems the left functions on all the wrong things. The left seems to believe hard work should not be rewarded but those working for government should essentially steal from the people. The only way the left can justify its actions is through a double standard.

Here’s Biden whose family seems to have greatly profited off of China.

      1. Hunter Biden still listed as board member of Chinese company he vowed to resign from, business records show

        April 15, 2020
        Andrew Kerr

Hunter Biden’s pledge in October to resign from the board of a Chinese private equity firm received widespread media coverage.
Former Vice President Joe Biden lauded his son’s announcement to relinquish his board position with BHR Partners as a sign of his integrity.
Hunter Biden’s lawyer, George Mesires, told the Daily Caller News Foundation in November that Hunter Biden had followed through on his pledge to resign from the firm, but he not provide any evidence of his departure at the time.
Chinese business records accessed Tuesday show that Hunter Biden is still listed as a member of BHR’s board of directors — six months after he pledged to relinquish the position.
Hunter Biden received wall-to-wall media coverage and praise from his father, former Vice President Joe Biden, in October when he announced he would resign from the board of a Chinese private equity firm by the end of the month.

But six months after Hunter Biden pledged to relinquish his position with BHR Partners, no evidence has surfaced to prove he actually followed through on his promise. ….

BHR manages the equivalent of $2.1 billion in assets, according to its website. Hunter Biden has served as an unpaid member of BHR’s board since its founding in 2013, and in October 2017 he obtained his equity stake in the firm with a $420,000 investment, according to Mesires….

As of Tuesday, BHR’s file on China’s National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System (NECIPS) still lists Hunter Biden as being a director of BHR.

Qixinbao, an independent service that provides registration information on Chinese corporations, also listed Hunter Biden as a member of the BHR board on Tuesday. …

  6. Stacey Abrams, Kirstin Gillibrand Put on Their Pom-Poms and Kneepads and Beg Joe Biden to Make Them His Designated Human Rape Shield

Stacey Abrams is taking time off from her day job of being Pretend Governor of Georgia to whore herself out to Joey Sneakyfingers.

Stacey Abrams really, really wants to be Joe Biden’s running mate.

The failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate is doing constant media interviews about how “excellent” she would be as vice president and calling up Democratic operatives privately to lobby for her selection. This public campaign is rather bizarre and desperate, and Abrams essentially lacks any qualifications other than her identity politics. She also has a history of promoting tin-hat level “voter suppression” conspiracies that she should have won the governor’s mansion despite receiving fewer votes.

But even setting all that aside, Abrams’s desire to be on the Biden ticket is grossly hypocritical because of her claim to be a supporter of the #MeToo movement and its legacy of “believing all women” who launch allegations of sexual assault. Now, a woman has accused the elderly Democratic nominee, but it just so happens that Abrams sees this man as her meal ticket. The politician’s willingness to cast aside her espoused feminist concern with sexual assault allegations to advance her career is truly shameless and disgraceful.

  7. Harris: ‘I believe’ Biden accusers

BY MICHAEL BURKE – 04/03/19 09:20 AM EDT
    The Hill

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that she believes women who say they felt uncomfortable after receiving unwanted touching from former Vice President Joe Biden.

“I believe them and I respect them being able to tell their story and having the courage to do it,” Harris said at a presidential campaign event in Nevada.

The California senator added that Biden will need to decide for himself whether to run for president.

“He’s going to have to make that decision for himself. I wouldn’t tell him what to do,” Harris said.

In recent days, several women have come forward to allege that Biden has touched them inappropriately.

Former Nevada state lawmaker Lucy Flores, a Democrat, made the first accusation last week in an essay in New York magazine’s The Cut. On Monday, Amy Lappos told the Hartford Courant that Biden also touched her inappropriately at a 2009 fundraiser in Connecticut.

Two additional women, Caitlyn Caruso and D. J. Hill, came forward Tuesday, sharing their experiences with The New York Times.

Biden, who is considering running for president and has led a number of polls of Democrats, has not commented publicly on the accusations since Sunday, when in response to Flores’s allegation he said in a statement that he has “offered countless handshakes, hugs, expressions of affection, support and comfort.”

“And not once — never — did I believe I acted inappropriately,” Biden added. “If it is suggested I did so, I will listen respectfully.”

  8. WOMEN WHO ACCUSED TRUMP

    8) Karena Virginia (1998)

The allegation: Virginia said she encountered Trump while she was waiting for a car service to pick her up from the U.S. Open tennis tournament in Queens. She overheard him making comments about her to other men. “He said, ‘Hey, look at this one, we haven’t seen her before. Look at those legs.’ As though I was an object, rather than a person,” she said.

“He then walked up to me and reached his right arm and grabbed my right arm, then his hand touched the right inside of my breast. I was in shock. I flinched,” she continued.

Trump then asked her, “Don’t you know who I am? Don’t you know who I am?” she said.

Virginia, who co-signed the statement supporting Kavanaugh’s accusers, was profiled by the New Yorker in November 2018. She told the magazine that she received death threats after coming forward, and still felt guilty about how people interpreted her tears during her press conference.

        1. Allan keepin’ in classy and respectful from his armchair in the sewer.

            1. Yep, Allan is still keepin’ it clasly and respectful, as a hat tip to JT.

      2. Ah, Professor Turley– Gracious of you to host us, sir.

I’m not sure who upset you. I’ve been away for an hour. But you can see a brigaid of puppets is active on the threads. They have been a presence since the week before Easter.

Out here on the coast we read a lot of scripts. Therefore we develop eyes for good dialogue. The problem with puppets is ‘bad dialogue’. Puppets are like bad actors: ‘one dimensional’. It makes them easy to spot.

If one could write 10 good chacters per day, they could make a lot of money writing scripts.

Thank you for your wonderful columns and insight.

      3. And now we suffer the consummate troll.

          1. Thanks for reading…again.

You keep it up, and someday you’ll grasp the depth and breadth of American freedom.

Whatever will you do, though, without generational welfare and affirmative action privilege, oh, and the right to kill American babies?

  11. WOMEN ACCUSING TRUMP

    # 7) Cathy Heller (1997)

The allegation: Heller says she received an unwanted kiss from Trump when they were introduced at a Mother’s Day brunch at Mar-a-Lago. The incident occurred in front of her family. The Guardian reported:

“He took my hand, and grabbed me, and went for the lips,” she claimed.

Alarmed, she said she leaned backwards to avoid him and almost lost her balance. “And he said, ‘Oh, come on.’ He was strong. And he grabbed me and went for my mouth and went for my lips.” She turned her head, she claims, and Trump planted a kiss on the side of her mouth. “He kept me there for a little too long,” Heller said. “And then he just walked away.”

Since then: Heller attended the Women’s March on Washington on the day after Trump’s inauguration, rallying 43 people to reserve an entire train car from New York.

  12. Like I have said here time and time again:

Trying to explain “principles”, or “right vs. wrong”, or “rules”, or “logical consistency” to a Democrat, is like trying to explain to a bad, cheating, folding metal chair-using, pants-pulling-down, wrestler why he didn’t win the WWF Belt fairly. He is not able to comprehend what you are going on about. All he knows is, that he won the match and belt, and if his girl friend jumped into the ring and whacked the good wrestler over the head with a metal chair while the referee wasn’t looking- – -well, what difference does that make??? After all, he won! He has the championship belt! Isn’t that all that matters???

But if the Good Wrestler does the same thing in response to the Bad Wrestler, then the Bad Wrestler is full of righteous indignation and he will mouth all the right words – for example “ I was cheated blah blah blah. But there is really no issue of morality in play with the Democrats or the Bad Wrestler. Like some sort of primitive, what helps him get what he wants is good and what keeps him from getting what he wants is bad. It is as simple as that. Democrats, and Bad Wrestlers, are complete sociopaths.

          1. Alan, these threads have been occupied by literally dozens of sock puppets since the week before Easter. But you have never complained about them.

            1. I complain about Anonymous aliases all the time Paint Chips. So have you but I never use an anonymous alias. Despite your complaints you have used anonymous labels many times because among all the other things I have called you you are also a hypocrite (probably the best of your characteristics). You associate yourself with the Brainless Wonder/ Anonymous the Stupid, Batshltcrazy anonymous, anonymous who tries to make sense but never does and a number of other anonymouses who shouldn’t exist on any blog unless they aquired a stable alias.

              1. “I complain about Anonymous aliases all the time…”

Most people have better things to do. Don’t like anonymous comments? Start your own blog and make your own rules. In the meantime, you might want to have a little respect for the guy who owns this blog.

                1. Anonymous, you have continuously demonstrated little respect for the list owner. What he says goes whether I like it or not because he owns the list. Instead of thanking him too many of you are ungrateful.

I don’t know if it is an inhibition to free speech when people have to sign up with a singular identifiable alias. The address is kept hidden and even if it wasn’t, the address could be created specifically for the list and verified. I always thought total (excluding foul language etc.) acceptance of anonymous comments was the only way to go. This list taught me otherwise as the idea of good commentary and discussion has been perverted.

                  1. What’s that saying:

“When you point one finger, there are three fingers pointing back….”

Something for all of us to keep in mind.

When I replied to negative statements you made towards me with fact and mathematics you responded in your typical nasty way. You are just a nasty person hiding behind an anonymous alias hoping to blend in with the rest.

                    2. Big-time projection by Allan.

All one has to do is read through some of the comment threads to see who lobs the first insult. More often than not, it’s Allan.

                    3. “All one has to do is read through some of the comment threads to see who lobs the first insult.”

If you think someone lobs the first insult against you anonymous BLAME YOURSELF. You choose to surround yourself with a lot of other anonymous aliasis so one can say that you attacked people and they responded based on your history and your attack. If they got something wrong because they didn’t differentiate one anonymous from the other, that is your problem. You refuse to make sure your alias is kept clean and is differentiated from the rest.

          2. He doesn’t have the ba.ls to say these things under his own alias.

LOL! That just sounds strange. He doesn’t have the ba11s to say something under a fake name. That’s actually pretty sad. Imagine how pathetic his reputation has become when he has to post as Anonymous to have any hope of being taken seriously. And then when he does, he doesn’t bother hiding the fact it’s still him. 🙂

Why haven’t you or others bothered to present arguments opposing her set of facts, as opposed to the color commentary regarding the way she describes them? Avoiding the former while criticizing the latter is an attack on style over substance. That’s not argumentation, that’s just whining.

  13. Why I Am Noting Trump Accusers

Professor Turley and Trump supporters would have us believe that Biden accuser Tara Reade deserves her 15 minutes of fame in mainstream media.  Whether she’s credible, or not, Trumpers argue, the public should see Reade’s name in bold headlines for at least a week.

It’s only ‘fair’, we are told, ‘Reade must get at least as much mainstream coverage as Kavanaugh accuser Chistine Blassy Ford’.  This arguement reflects the What About mentality of Trumpers.  Like every news development has to be treated with equal weight to accommodate both sides of our Culture Wars.

But if Tara Reade is entitled to the full, Blassy Ford treatment, then arguably every woman who accused Donald Trump of misconduct deserves the same level of coverage.  I see no logical reason that Trump’s accusers should be walled-off from discussion.  To the contrary it seems the height of hypocrisy to expect Reade and only Reade to be discussed.

    1. But if Tara Reade is entitled to the full, Blassy Ford treatment, then arguably every woman who accused Donald Trump of misconduct deserves the same level of coverage.

You need to learn to argue better. Reade actually worked for Biden and there is now evidence her complaint against him was composed 27 years ago, not last month. Blasey Fraud and her lawfare-artist handlers have yet to produce a piece of evidence that she ever met Brett Kavanaugh or Mark Judge and any claim she made that might be corroborated was refuted. Kavanaugh had been subject to a half-dozen background investigations over a period of 28 years before she sends her letter to her congressho’, by the way. Jean Carroll can demonstrate that she and her husband were once on a receiving line with the Trumps; that’s about all. Summer Zervos is a verifiable acquaintance of Trump, as is one other woman. Not the others.

  14. Tara Reade states that Biden sexually assaulted her and Biden said it did not happen It might have happened but no one was there to witness the incident No one was present when Trump engaged in multiple sexual assault yet he told Billy Bush on tape that he grabbbed women by the pu. Y One cadidai denied the assault and the idiotic Trump admits it I guess Trump told the truth

  15. TARA READE has much hard evidence the B. Ford, who really had nothing but DEM and Media spin and hate Trump. Of Course the DEM’s, Media and etc. are ignoring, they really don’t care unless it hurts TRUMP.

Joe, who does not know what day it is, needs to drop out and seek help.

I agree with you. He should never have entered the race and stay retired. But then I see this article and it might explain why he’s in this race. Not to forget to mention his QPQ with Ukraine and that entire disaster.

“The collection of former Vice President Biden’s senatorial papers is still being processed, with many items yet to be cataloged,” an email from a school spokeswoman said. “The entire collection will remain closed to the public until two years after Mr. Biden retires from public life.”

  16. WOMEN ACCUSING TRUMP

    #6) Temple Taggart McDowell (1997)

The allegation: McDowell, who represented Utah as a 21-year-old in the 1997 Miss USA pageant, said Trump immediately kissed her when they were introduced during a rehearsal. “He kissed me directly on the lips,” she said. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, gross.’ He was married to Marla Maples at the time. I think there were a few other girls that he kissed on the mouth. I was like ‘Wow, that’s inappropriate.’”

Since then: Taggart and three other Trump accusers — Summer Zervos, Jessica Drake, and Rachel Crooks — held a press conference in D.C. just before they protested in the Women’s March on Washington in 2017. “I want my children to see that I am willing to face my fears head on, with the hope that I might not only bring about a positive change in others, but also instill in them a similar strength,” Taggart said.
