“I Didn’t Know Anything”: Former Obama Official Criticized After Classified Testimony Contradicts Her Public Statements

The long-delayed release of testimony from the House Intelligence Committee has proved embarrassing for a variety of former Obama officials who have been extensively quoted on the allegedly strong evidence of collusion by the Trump campaign and the Russians.  Figures like James Clapper, who is a CNN expert, long indicated hat the evidence from the Obama Administration was strong and alarming.  However, in testimony, Clapper denied seeing any such evidence.  One of the most embarrassing is the testimony of  Evelyn Farkas, a former Obama Administration official who was widely quoted in her plea to Congress to gather the evidence that she knew was found in by the Obama Administration. In her testimony under oath Farkas repeatedly stated that she knew of no such evidence of collusion.

440px-Evelyn_N._FarkasFarkas, who served as the deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Russia/Ukraine/Eurasia, was widely quoted when she said on MSNBC in 2017 that she feared that evidence she knew about would be destroyed by the Trump Administration.  She stated

“was urging my former colleagues, and, frankly speaking, the people on the Hill… Get as much information as you can, get as much intelligence as you can, before President Obama leaves the administration, because I had a fear that somehow that information would disappear with the senior people that left. So it would be hidden away in the bureaucracy . . . the Trump folks, if they found out how we knew what we knew about their, the staff, the Trump staff’s dealing with Russians, that they would try to compromise those sources and methods, meaning we would no longer have access to that intelligence. So I became very worried, because not enough was coming out into the open, and I knew that there was more.”

MSNBC never seriously questioned the statements despite the fact that Farkas left the Obama Administration in 2015 before any such investigation could have occurred.  As we have seen before, the factual and legal basis for such statements are largely immaterial in the age of echo journalism.  The statement fit the narrative even if it lacked any plausible basis.

Not surprisingly, the House Intelligence Committee was eager to have Farkas share all that she stated she “knew about [“the Trump folks”], their staff, the Trump’s staff’s dealing with Russian” and wanted to get “into the open.”  After all, she told MSNBC that “I knew that there was more.”

She was finally put under oath in the closed classified sessions and there was nothing but classified crickets.  Farkas was repeatedly asked to share that information that electrified the MSNBC hosts and audience.  She repeatedly denied any such knowledge, telling then Rep. Trey Gowdy (R, S.C.),  “I didn’t know anything.”

Gowdy noted that Farkas left the Obama administration in 2015 and asked “Then how did you know?” She repeated again “I didn’t know anything.”

Gowdy then asked “Well, then why would you say, we knew?”

He also asked

“You also didn’t know whether or not anybody in the Trump campaign had colluded with Russia, did you?” Gowdy later asked, getting to the point.

“I didn’t,” Farkas responded.

MSNBC has said nothing about its prior headline story being untrue. Indeed, the media has barely acknowledged that the new documents reinforce that there was never any evidence of collusion and ultimately the allegations were rejected by the Special Counsel, Congress, and inspectors general.

For her part, Farkas has moved on.  She is running for Congress.  She is still citing her role in raising “the alarm” about Russian collusion:

“After I left the Obama administration, I campaigned to help elect Secretary Clinton as our next President. When Russians interfered in that election, I was among the first to sound the alarm and urge Congress to take action. And I haven’t let up since then.

She was indeed one of the first but it proved to be a false alarm based on nonexistent knowledge.  Does that matter anymore?

  1. I wrote a piece on my blog about Farkas in which I said “Farkas farked up.” I thought she was revealing classified information but it turns out she was just another lying Democrat.

  2. More stupid propaganda. Farkas admitting she was not an investigator does not mean that what investigators found was false. She heard it 2nd hand as we all have now. How dumb do you have to be to buy this logic?

  3. So it would be hidden away in the bureaucracy . . . the Trump folks, if they found out how we knew what we knew about their, the staff, the Trump staff’s dealing with Russians, that they would try to compromise those sources and methods, meaning we would no longer have access to that intelligence. Seems to me that Farkas understood an intelligence-gathering plan was concocted long before the run up to the 2016 election. I have no doubt the plan involved connecting the eventual Republican nominee with a Russian conspiracy and that the sources and methods Farkas alluded to were already identified. The only unknown for Farkas was which candidate and their staff would be the prey. Step 1: hack the DNC server and blame it on the Russians. Once the useful idiots became convinced the Russians were undermining our 2016 election in favor of the Republicans and their nominee, they would certainly believe the “official” reports from the FBI/IC/DOJ. That shocked look on their collective faces when Trump was elected was the sudden realization their entire plan not only failed, but would be uncovered if their insurance policy also failed.

Now who again are the most informed and educated voters?

  4. If I recall, Farkas was sworn to tell the truth in both the public hearing as well as her testimony from the House Intelligence Committee.
Isn’t that Perjury? Didn’t Farkas commit perjury when she ‘Swore’ to tell the truth at both hearings she was compelled to testify at?

Couldn’t she be referred to criminal investigation for Lying and or Perjury?

  5. Since the transcripts indicate that Clapper, Brennan and Farkas all testified under oath that there was no evidence of collusion and then want on CNN and MSNBC and said exactly the opposite, don’t their statements on those networks meet the high bar set by the Sullivan decision? Or if they believed what they were saying on those networks was true, didn’t they lie to Congress?

  6. They’re all going to sound like colonel Klink. I know nothing.

  7. So, the deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Russia/Ukraine/Eurasia, “Evelyn Farkas”, can make lies that can contribute to a candidate not being elected.
But that is not election tampering.
Just wanted to clear that up.
    That’s OK.
    Now she’s running for Congress.
Her opponent will have will have a nickname, “Ralphie”.
Here’s Evelyn now, sounding a more truthful alarm:
“ Ow, Ow, Ow, Ow….I didn’t know the truth hurt so much!”

  8. The very fact that all of the Obama conspirators said one thing publicly and an entirely opposite thing under oath and privately, proves beyond any doubt, that the entire episode was a political sham to keep Pres. Trump from being elected, and after the election was used to destroy his Presidency. Although they did not keep him from being elected, they destroyed his Presidency in many ways. In addition, because these lies were, and still are, repeated daily by a compliant media, the re-election of our President is very much in question.

This entire episode would go down in history as the most treasonous times in history by the Democrat Party, except that there are too many historians who are as anti-Trump as the far-left media they research for their history.

Unfortunately, I don’t think future students will ever know the truth about Obama and his attempts to destroy our very election process and our Constitution.

  10. “The long-delayed release of testimony from the House Intelligence Committee has proved embarrassing…”

After making all sorts of false allegations Farkas in testimony states the truth.

    “I didn’t know anything.”

This shouldn’t be embarrassing. It should be criminal.

  11. It no longer matters. From the party that has claimed that facts matter, they do. Until they don’t.

  12. My question is fairly simple… She states, “if they found out how we knew what we knew…” implying exactly what? She knew about the “wiretapping”? How, if those were classified FISA applications and classified activities and she left in 2015? Was there a plan to surveil the republican nominee no matter who it was? These are questions that should have been asked by Gowdy.

  13. She was colluding with the Chinese who didn’t want Tgump and want Hillary.

    1. So? Collusion is still NOT a crime just as made up bit of fakery they used to avoid having to say a word that would be actionable in a law suit.. She wasn’t colluding she was part of a conspiracy against Our Constitution and Our Constitutional Republic as part of what they call The Resistance’s efforts to carry out and illegal coup. Why? They want the power and they don’t give a tinkers damn about anything else. They are true Enemies Domestic.

  14. Interesting. Off topic a bit, but what is your view of Mary B. McCord’s latest write-up regarding being taken out of context by the Flynn case write-up? Not being an attorney, I’m having a hard time figuring out what she wrote or took exception to.

  15. The case for the mainstream media has long been the idea that it operated according to certain editorial and journalistic standards and could therefore be better trusted than the social media echo chamber. With the media’s massive failure in the Crossfire Hurricane/”Russia Collusion” affair, in which it not only helped to uncritically lend credence to a completely false narrative, but also that it completely missed the real story in the process, that case now lies in shreds. The media have been shown to be a no more reliable source of information than any random partisan hack on Twitter. One must now turn to blogs like this one for reasonably objective and reliable coverage of current affairs.

    1. A disgrace to the AmericanWe don’t need another person like this in congress.KAG🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    1. Socialism is next door to being history as the truth comes out and for the simple fact that The Constitutionalists have the military minus a few turncoat traitors and their oath is to take action against ANYTHING that threatens, seeks to unseat, or harm The Constitution specifically against all enemies domestic or foreign. Not to mention the largest voting block is not the scum of the Pelosites and Schumerians or Ocasio-nals. But the independent Constitutional Citizens who are larger than either one of the Parties and who enjoy the support of the majority of not only the majority of the military but the retirees, former members, and many of whom are now in law enforcement and security/intelligence. So what’s the ‘bad toys’ gonna do when they are out gunned materially ad legally? You are seeing it now as some are distancing themselves from the socialist regressives in ever increasing numbers.

      Constitutionalism vs socialism
Freedom vs slavery under the party hardly of the DNC and their Party of Slavery

  16. Farkas was all over the news spreading Obama/her lies, both domestic and international news. She presented herself as an expert. I believe she is running for office?? Hopefully the MSM, event though they hate Trump, should realize Farkas is a fool/liar and drop her.

She represents many of the Obama/Clinton liars.

  17. Dishonest people looking for their 15 minutes.

Part of the coup, but they will suffer no consequences, either legal or social.
