We have been discussing curious criminal charges linked to the pandemic but few are quite as bizarre as the charges facing Alexander Michael Sardinas, 37 Sardinas has been charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment. The reason for the alleged crimes is the truly bizarre element.
Sardinas and Michelle Lynne Peterson , 43, allegedly tried to take a taxi to the Florida Keys but were turned away at the U.S. 1 checkpoint because they lacked the proper identification and paperwork to show residency or employment in the Keys. They were left on the side of the road and a Florida Highway Trooper was kind enough to give them a lift back to Florida City.
Once there, police say that couple spotted a young woman traveling to Key West at the grocery store around noon. Her vehicle had the hurricane reentry sticker and a Monroe County license plate that would clear her at the checkpoints. Police say that, while unarmed, Sardinas threatened her if she tried to use her cellphone and forced her to drive Sardinas and Peterson through the checkpoint. She dropped them off at a gas station and called her family.
Sardinas was later picked up. He has a long criminal record that includes charges of cocaine possession, grand theft and burglary. He can now add kidnapping and false imprisonment: All for a lift to the Keys.

I don’t know about kidnapping but shouldn’t the fact that the woman was threatened and forced result in some sort of charge?
This is what drugs do to a person. They destroy their capability of rational thought.

The only bizarre part of this pandemic was the idea of letting criminals out of quarantine. The dems own this 100%.
It’s not bizarre at all. The default assumption among Democrats nowadays is that courts should only punish deplorables. Since most actual criminals are their clientele, they want them out of prison.
a lot of trivial offenders can be let out of prison. sex crime convicts have a high recidivism however and should not be in the bunch. nor murderers. nor flight risks. in most states that insight is common wisdom. in California not so much
