Minneapolis City Council Vows To Dismantle The Police Department [Updated]

download-4My last column explored how the movement for reform after the death of George Floyd is being taken over by the most radical voices among politicians, activists, and commentators. The analogy to the French Revolution seems more and more apt by the hour.  Last night, a veto proof majority on the Minneapolis City Counsel vowed to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department as a “toxic” institution. What was dismissed by many in the media as simply rhetorical is now the official position of the city council of a major city with other such demands being made across the country.

We have been discussing calls for the defunding or dismantling of police departments.  Indeed, recently Minneapolis Major Jacob Frey was booed and force to leave a rally when he refused to abolish the police department. The rally speaker and the crowd demanded that there be “no more cops.”  To his credit, Frey demurred:

The vote of the city council followed this incredible “walk of shame” of the mayor.

Council President Lisa Bender declared the police department to be “toxic” and insisted that “incremental” measures were no longer acceptable.  Nothing less that an effort to “recreate systems of public safety” would be permitted. Council member Alondra Cano agreed that the department was simply not “reformable.”

They were part of a vote of 9 out 12 members in favor of dismantling the police department.

We recently discussed how the new order reached the New York Times when it was forced into a public apology for allowing a conservative column by a United State Senator to be published on it opinion page.  Writers still demanded and received the resignation of the opinion page editor, James Bennet.  This was over a column in which Sen. Tom Cotton (R, Ark.) wrote about the use of troops to quell the riots, a legal option used repeatedly in history.

While pledging a full investigation and issuing a confession worthy of a reeducation camp, the newspaper had no qualms in publishing a column entitled “No More Money for the Police.” The article Philip V. McHarris  and Thenjiwe McHarris said that it was now necessary to “reimagine public safety in ways that shrink and eventually abolish police and prisons.” It included the use of “rapid response social workers” to replace the role of police officers in some cases.  That article was deemed entirely appropriate for the pages of the New York Times but not a U.S. Senator discussing one of the most important options being debated in Washington in the midst of violent protests.

440px-Arrestation_de_Robespierre_le_27_juillet_1794The analogy to the French Revolution remains irresistible. The rejection of those seeking “incremental” change is eerily familiar as yesterday’s reformers are denounced as today’s reactionaries.  One of the first things that the revolutionaries did was to reinvent French justice and take over the police. The police organization established under Louis XIV in 1667 was dismantled and in 1789, the Revolution created Prefecture of Police which was used as the arm of popular justice so that “The blade of the law should hover over all the guilty.”

Of course, a Prefecture might not appeal to Minneapolis.  After all, the organization constructed by Napoleon actually removed local control of the police in favor of control by the Ministry of the Interior. If the Council is looking for a new name, they might want to consider a new name like The Committee of General Security. It worked wonders in France after it took control of the police. Indeed, it works with such uplifting mottos as “To punish the oppressors of humanity is clemency; to forgive them is cruelty.” Maximilien Robespierre

  1. “If the Council is looking for a new name, they might want to consider a new name like The Committee of General Security. It worked wonders in France after it took control of the police.”

“The Committee of State Security” might work even better. Putin resurrected the old name for Russia’s secret police (Komitet v Gosudarstvannoye Bezopasnosti) and it resumed its old habits.

Leftists, you’ve observed in this very blog, stop worrying about other people’s human rights the minute they seek power.

  2. So, the police will be dismantled. Then, the private companies with militarized police will take hold. Finally, the robotic police will take over in lieu of human police.

Perhaps, the private police will work hand in hand with robotic police.

Robots will not discriminate in who they shoot or how they handle the job.

        1. Just kidding on the 2nd one. LOL. 😉

That is a man in a robot suit.

    1. Anonymous – the State Police contend it was a traffic control method. I am buying stock in Big O Tire. 😉

    2. It shows how some do not actually read past the headlines they copy.

If accurate this is the reason behind the slashed tires, ““State Patrol troopers strategically deflated tires … in order to stop behaviors such as vehicles driving dangerously and at high speeds in and around protesters and law enforcement,” Gordon said.

Gordon said the patrol also targeted vehicles “that contained items used to cause harm during violent protests” such as rocks, concrete and sticks.

“While not a typical tactic, vehicles were being used as dangerous weapons and inhibited our ability to clear areas and keep areas safe where violent protests were occurring,” he said. As in all operations of this size, there will be a review about how these decisions were made.””

      1. “It shows how some do not actually read past the headlines they copy.” — Allan

Allan is wrong. Again. What a surprise.

        1. Anonymous, you are always trying to prove you aren’t stupid and fail at doing so. Explain why you made it appear that the article was saying the police were disabling cars for no reason. You can’t because the police had a reason and you don’t read past the headlines. …Not too bright.

Reason for cars to be disabled:

“… in order to stop behaviors such as vehicles driving dangerously and at high speeds in and around protesters and law enforcement,” Gordon said.

Gordon said the patrol also targeted vehicles “that contained items used to cause harm during violent protests” such as rocks, concrete and sticks.

          You are a real putz.

            1. Another dump post. Anonymous would have the police leave cars ready to run over people and throw projectiles at them. This stupid guy would divert the entire police department to the parking lot to give tickets. What a brainless wonder we have on this blog.

Reason for cars to be disabled:

        1. How many times is anonymous going to justify his stupidity. The article told us why during a riot the police disabled all the cars that were suspicious.

Keep it up anonymous. i love it when you pile stupid up on stupid.

      2. They had a riot on their hands and according to your article:

“… in order to stop behaviors such as vehicles driving dangerously and at high speeds in and around protesters and law enforcement,” Gordon said.

Gordon said the patrol also targeted vehicles “that contained items used to cause harm during violent protests” such as rocks, concrete and sticks.

You don’t read beyond the headlines and keep trying to prove yourself right but all you do is prove yourself stupid. It sounds like you wanted the police department to permit cars to run down pedestrians or be used to throw rocks and other projectiles at whoever they saw. You are really stupid.

  3. To his credit, Frey demurred:

I can see your courses at GW are guts.

  4. Svelaz and others that think like him. I think you should listen to this video posted earlier. Candace is a very bright woman who first was a Democrat and then learned how she was being used by the Democrat Party. I am not posting this for Democrats to change parties. I am posting this for Democrats to change the way they treat the black population as if they own them.

    1. Allan, she might have a point, but it’s also a poor excuse to defend her position by citing the criminal history of George Floyd and the assumption that he’s being regaled as a hero. Our own history regaled criminals as heroes too. Sam Adams was considered a criminal yet he’s a hero.

George Floyd’s criminal past has no relevance to what’s really the issue here. It’s the treatment he was subjected to that nearly every black American can relate to. Candace is the lone exception in not agreeing to the current narrative. She’s the one who argued before congress that white supremacy wasn’t an issue with minorities. Just as squeaky here often describes those with opposing views as shills, she can be considered a shill as well.

      1. “by citing the criminal history of George Floyd ”

Why is that a poor excuse? Why should the focus of blacks be on people that are or were criminals. Why not focus on the great ones, like Ben Carson an international neurosurgeon. Why bring the community down instead of up? Why set the bar so low? What did George Floyd do to make him into a Sam Adams? When people think of Sam Adams and say he was great was it because Sam Adams was being arrested at a time he was intoxicated with drugs? I have nothing against George Floyd except the fact he isnt a good role model. How about David Dorn as a role model. He is black and dead as well killed by those “so-called” protesters that shot him.

” It’s the treatment he was subjected to that nearly every black American can relate to.”

Start looking at the statistics . Take note of how many black police have killed black citizens. Take note how many policemen have been killed compared to the number of non violent blacks that were killed by policemen. There are a few bad apples everywhere. Don’t swallow what you are being sold go look at the numbers yourself. If I am correct listen to Candace again and I think she will provide you some of those numbers. Racism isn’t that high in the US and the US is probably one of the least racist nations in the world. Take note after trillions of dollars have been spent blacks seemingly remain in the same position. Those that reap big rewards for promoting grievance and victimhood are the winners while their fellow blacks are the losers. That money has mostly been in a fashion to keep blacks down instead of raising them up.

“Candace is the lone exception in not agreeing to the current narrative. ”

That is what you are led to believe by the people you listen to. They count on ignorance but fail when the individual opens his mind to the facts. Just at how the media is censoring diverse opinions and channeling your own into a singular opinion. You are better than that, but for you to get over the hump you have to do a little bit of work in seeking out the truth.

    2. An African-American person can become a hit in white conservative circles if their schtick is to take positions such as being in favor of police brutality or support of Trump. The fact that she is married to a white man means she does not really see the worst of the police targeting of blacks in her own experience.

      1. “An African-American person can become a hit in white conservative circles if their schtick is to take positions such as being in favor of police brutality or support of Trump. ”

Ted, do you think Ben Carson has no merit? How about Thomas Sowell or Clarence Thomas? You probably think they believe in police brutality. I believe all 3 grew up poor and learned that to get ahead except where purveying grievances and victimhood one had to become educated and be productive. Stupid people think that these people want to see policy brutality. That is a feature of the left but the left wants police brutality only where it helps them politically. Pick up any notable book of history on the well known socialist nations and see what the police were used for.

Conservatives and classical liberals of the so-called right want police actions to be based on the law, not on the color of one’s skin. They recognize that police keep the peace. You friendly protesters caused the deaths of I think 14 known persons killed during these riots. They caused the destruction of black neighborhoods that will have to wait a decade of more to return to normal.

Tell me what Candace said that is wrong. I don’t always agree with her or anyone, but for the most part she is on target. Maybe you feel blacks are unable to make it on their own. if that is the way you feel then you are totally wrong.

  5. This was a great column until . . . The Analogy. While I agree with Professor Turley’s assessment of the media here, adverting to the French Revolution to describe the alleged insanity of thinking of different, far-reaching ideas to achieve public safety is just classical anti-democratic slander, inflammatory, out of context, different in scale, and thus false. It nixes possible proposals for police reform that actually might work this time, without reverting to the original, before such proposals even have a chance of getting off the ground, all because of an apparently temperamental preference of Professor Turley’s, which I generally share, for incrementalism. But sometimes you must seize an opportunity to think big. And, if not now, when?

  6. ” It included the use of “rapid response social workers”
    *****************************************************************
Right. So after some lout beats his wife to a pulp, the social worker shows up and asks him, “Now, sir…….how do you feel about that?”

    1. He’d probably say that he feels great now that he got that out of his system. You can rationalize anything. BLM riots and loots, and this guy beats his wife. I get it, it’s all subjective.

    2. Yeah. It makes me wonder if anyone bothered to ask the social workers and EMTs, though from what I understand, the police will still be assigned to violent crimes. I guess the logic is, even if Floyd was arrested for such crimes in the past, the one that got him Killed was not. At least not when they had arrived they showed up.

A friend of mine in the LAPD told me a story relating to their lowering of entrance standards a few years ago in which a young and very petite female cop (who wouldn’t have passed muster before) was simply coldcocked unconscious by the much larger male suspect she was trying to apprehend for a non-violent offense. The suspect simply fled while she was lying on the ground. She had training and was packing heat. What’s a social worker going to do?

Under the new rules, however, Floyd would have indeed simply been released this time. It’s up to all of us to decide what we think about all of this. Who knows? The Minneapolis governor may end up being sued.

      1. James – go to Red Letter Media and look for BotW and Fighting with Edged Weapons. It is a classic. You will have a lot more respect for what the police may come up against.

  7. Jonathan Turley is overreacting here. The notion that this is “extreme” and using the French Revolution as an example ignores the fact that the Minneapolis police Department has a very long history of problems with abusive cops and racism. Turley leaves out the fact that this department is run on an entirely different principle of a combative adversarial nature. They are running on the premise that every interaction with an individual as a potential threat. Blacks are seen as needing to be dealt with harsher because of who they are.

Previous attempts at police reforms never addressed the problem so dissolving the police department is the most logical place to begin with. The problem is bad enough to require an “extreme” solution. This is merely a consequence to a long running problem that finally reached a breaking point.

    1. Svelaz – it is not like the Minnesota Orchestra where they can fire the entire orchestra and bring in a new one. No one is going to want to work for them. Think about it. Think what the job qualifications are going to be?

      1. Paul, that’s the point. The problem stems from the poor hiring practices and vetting of recruits. They can weed out the problem officers starting anew. If the process involves a more thorough review of who gets rehired based on their records and overhauling policies they can more readily focus on remaking the department.

I’m sure the majority are true professionals, but this being the Minneapolis Police Department which has had a very well documented history of problems with abuse and racism the only recourse left is to start anew. Turley is over exaggerating the level of reform making it look like overkill when in reality it is the most logical and necessary step.

        1. Svelaz – they are throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

            1. Svelaz – which city the size of Minneapolis had disbanded its police department?

              1. Paul, Compton in LA back in 2000, Camden NJ, Long Beach, etc. there are a lot of PD departments that have been disbanded.

                1. Compton had the LA Country Sheriff take over. What the hell is Minneapolis going to do?

                  1. Paul, I don’t know, but I’m sure they have a contingency in place for such an event. The fact that it had to happen speaks to just how bad the problem is.

              2. Paul, as you indicate small cities often will have the police department disband and pay the larger city next door for police protection. What should make people wonder is that Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota. The state has been under Democratic control for almost 10 years. The city itself has been controlled by Democrats for way over a half a century.

Why in a Democrat city and a Democrat state do they seem to have so many problems with their police department? Why should Minneapolis be one of the centers of racism?

                1. My guess is the politicians are so corrupt the corruption just bleeds on down the line.

    2. Svelaz– The first night of the riots in Minneapolis I saw hundreds of young black men and women and even some older ones looting– stealing– from businesses. There probably were some whites in the mob, either Antifa types or others but it was hard to tell because of the hoodies. I saw fires burning out of control. We even learned people had been killed. As long as this kind of criminal behavior is justified as “a consequence to a long running problem” it will continue, not because of any lofty goals but because you can steal a lot of good stuff and get away with it. And anyone who does not tow the party line about it’s all the police’s fault is called a racist. I hope Minneapolis does away with its police force. It will be “a consequence to a long running problem” of electing wet behind the years democrats to positions of authority.

      1. Honest, that’s not completely true. Everyone “who doesn’t toe the party line” is a racist. That’s an over generalization. There are those who either cannot or don’t want to acknowledge that there is a big problem within the police departments around the country. After years of attempted reforms and no real results, more extreme measures are the logical next step.

Ironically it was the Obama Administration who WAS actually tackling the problem head on with court decrees, that is until. AG Jeff sessions stopped it. It was actually producing results and many police unions didn’t like it because they were holding on to the culture of “protecting their own” even if abuses and systemic racism were part of it.

        1. “There are those who either cannot or don’t want to acknowledge that there is a big problem within the police departments around the country. ”

There is some truth in that, but why is it that most of the police departments around the coutry with big problems are in cities run almost exclusively by Democrats?

          1. Allan, I don’t think it’s because of party affiliations. Big cities have always been more liberal than rural regions or much smaller cities. Big cities are also where most of the jobs are so naturally there are more people and more problems associated with that. That’s not a correlation to why bigger cities have problems. Just as nobody claims there are republican or democratic cops or police departments.

            1. Svelaz, look at the cities faced with looting and vandalism. They are controlled mostly by Democrats. NYC has a fantastic police department that is probably the most skilled in the nation. Look at what happened in Manhattan. That would not have happened to the extent it did if Giuliani were in charge. NYC and I believe NYState have had poor leadership during this dangerous period of time.

Politicians tell the police how to act and sometimes place police in danger. That is not received well by police officers. Most police officers are a credit to their badge.

              1. Allan, NYC, handling unrest better than others only means they have more experience. That doesn’t mean it’s democratic majority is the reason for problems. Major cities will always have problems. The NYPD has its own issues with abuse and racism.

Yes I agree that most police officers are a credit to their badge, BUT as it is often the case it takes a few bad ones to tarnish it for everyone else and when those bad apples keep getting away with being bad apples they rotten up the rest.

                1. “Allan, NYC, handling unrest better than others only means they have more experience. ”

Svelaz, you use the word only. Consider the fact that NYC tactics were taken all over the nation and their various commanders were hired to run police departments in many large cities. It is actually a fantastic police department spoiled by politicians who should never have held such a position.

What you are finding is that the worst problems seem to occur in the cities that have been run by LIberals for years. In Minneapolis they have had a Liberal mayor for 60 or more years.

“The NYPD has its own issues with abuse and racism.”

It’s had its own issues like every police department and every organization. Bad apples are everywhere. However NYC ended up becoming the safest large city in the country. It has it’s ups and downs that seem to closely correlate with the type of mayor that is in office. The city is hell under DeBlasio and was hell under Dinkins. It rapidly improved under Giuliani. Giuliani was a Republican contrasting with the two Democrats. That doesn’t mean that some Democrats in the past couldn’t do a good job. It is a matter of mindset and how they approach the job. We have seen how a lot of crazy Democrats have been approaching their jobs in the recent timeframe and they are doing great harm. [Just so you know I don’t like either party. I was registered as a Democrat for most of my life. I voted mostly independently though in earlier years leaned toward the Democrats, but Democrats were more sensible at that time and I was too busy to dig deeper.]

          2. There is some truth in that,

No, there isn’t any truth in that. Svelaz is a fraud.

            1. DSS, There is some truth in the statement, but that doesn’t mean that the cause is the police. I believe the problems are created by political involvement in the police departments which appears to happen most in Democrat controlled areas.

              1. Allan, police departments are not immune from corruption that manifests itself as abuse and systematic racism. Thats not always a reflection of city leadership. It’s also a reflection on police culture. When police departments have members who continually get away with abuses and they are not held to account they bear responsibility for the behavior not the city leadership.

                1. “Allan, police departments are not immune from corruption that manifests itself as abuse and systematic racism.”

Svelaz, no one is immune from that but the raw numbers and the real history show something completely different than you believe. You want to blame it on the police but after 60 years of Democrat rule they have had many generations of police officers. They control hiring and firing. They have a good deal of control over training. Blame politicians for a lot of our ills. Both parties have abused their offices.

If you recall the Parkland Highschool killings. Guess who had political control? Democrats. The cheif of police was backed by the Democrat machine. He was removed but I did read he was on his way back.

            2. Absurd, you’re gonna have to do better than that. Your poor attempt at a rebuttal is well… absurd.

              1. this chaos is because billionaires want chaos.

it is a planned campaign of destabilization to scare the middle class and intimidate them into abandoning their champion Trump

in favor of a patsy Democrat they control more surely, ie, Biden, who will do as the billionaires and their friends in the CCP want

chaos from now until the election will mean a certain win for Biden

the only way to electoral victory is if Trump takes radical action to suppress the troublemaking billionaires.

just tweeting against Jack dorsey on jack dorsey’s own property was a weak attack. he should have arrested jack dorsey if he really meant business. Jack dorsey is cancelling Trump

all Americans especially Republicans need to wake up to the power of finance capital and the reality that it utterly controls America.

the rioters could be called off by them in a few hours.

the billionaires control the rioters and use them to scare and bully you.

white liberals are mostly people who are just more scared than you are

the objective is not to help blacks or anybody, it is just to bring a return to globalism and a gradual weakening of the nation-state as such, and to prepare a transition to an international monetary successor to the dollar as the world reserve currency, probably the IMF SDR, or something newer that relates to it. An orderly transition is desired but if they can’t have it orderly, then they are going to have it disorderly.

That’s what it’s “really all about”

  8. And have any of these council members considered how to manage the end of the honeymoon after they sack the police? If they elect to merge the city police with another department they would get the same officers on the street, since they would be covered by civil service protections under law. ( or are they permitted to do this since they are a class 1 city) Or they would have to contract with the county (most likely) and what is to say the sheriff won’t look at this as a unwholesome proposal and give them a price quote far and above what the city would be willing to pay just to make the matter go away. (I’ve seen this happen before).

Are they going to just waive a magic wand and banish the police deparment personnel to Arcadia? How are they going to make the statutory mandate to police the city.

    Stupid is as stupid legislates

Now on the other hand if instead the rioters were attacking the neighborhoods and houses consisting of the politicians living there, oh the shit would hit the fan then. They would be all up in arms that the police aren’t kicking ass and taking names like they should be.

    schmucks

    1. I have posted here before that there are like 70,000 gang members in Chicago, and with all the social apps, they now have the ability to strike the burbs. There, and I am sure in Minneapolis and elsewhere.

I doubt that they will directly attack people’s homes for two reasons:

      1. Homeowners are likely to shoot back, with more firepower than them. Because it is their home, and not just a business.

      2. It is more profitable to loot Target and WalMart in the burbs than Bob and Betty Smith’s mcmansion. More merchandise and better selection. Who want’s Mr. Smith’s used wingtips when you can get your very own new ones in your size.

          1. It is not “mine” per se. I have a ton of indoor cats, and about 3 to 4 strays I feed. One of them is a real love bunny, but she does not like being inside. She is a stray, but not feral by any means. Half the neighborhood thinks I am a dyke, because I wear black a lot, and sit outside wearing a fedora and smoking my pipe and playing with the cat. Plus, hardly any men come here unless it is one of Penelope’s boyfriend’s du jour.

  9. This is the time to start an armed security company in Minneapolis. I live here. Drove through the Lake St. area. Much worse seeing it in person. Businesses just south and north of that area have BLM and/or Minority Owned signs. Some were spared, some not. Drug stores, liquor stores, convenience stores[cigs] were hit the hardest.

    1. Nick….wow….how depressing. We’re sad this morning because the toddler thugs of color spray painted the monuments on our pretty courthouse lawn. We’re just a small picturesque town where everybody gets along. But the thugs have to soil our nest, because they’ve soiled theirs, (which even animals won’t do) so why should we have a nice place to live? We’re being punished because our community is a happy place where we do all get along. The toddler thugs ruin everything they touch.
      Anyway, sorry about your town.

      1. Cindy, wow, that’s quite a racist rant. “Toddler thugs of color”. “Our nest?”

I guess Turley gives bigoted racists a say in his forum. I wonder what the limit is.

        1. Svelaz – vandalism is thuggism. Get used to it. Thugs know no race.

          1. Paul, no, vandalism is vandalism. But if you insist on attaching that meaning as “thuggish” then we should revise our history books to say a bunch of thugs started the Boston tea party protest. Right? Don’t we revile their “protest” as patriotic?

            1. Svelaz – nobody took responsibility for the Boston Tea Party, which is why they went in disguise. And yes, they were vandals and thugs and would have spent prison time if caught.

              1. Paul, the point is they were characterized as heroes. Not as vandals and thugs. It is a moment that is seen as source of pride despite the fact that they destroyed property AND disrupted commerce. They were the antifa of their time.

                    1. Svelaz – that is only in Boston and the surrounding area. It is their tourist dollars at work. 😉

            2. Svelaz, if you are going to compare the two acts then I have to ask you a question did the thugs in Minneapolis offer to pay for the destroyed tea? I don’t think so.

On the one hand you had pure thuggery where the one’s vandalizing and looting didn’t stand up for any principles. They looted and gained from their actions harming their fellow citizens that lived under the same conditions they lived. I don’t think you can say the same about the Boston Tea Party. Would you like to try?

              1. Allan, the vandalism and “”thuggery” was the result of a protest and can be deemed a form of protest. The Boston tea party is always characterized as a protest against taxation. It still involved destruction of property and disrupting commerce. They have always been “protesters” instead of vandals and thugs.

What happened in Minneapolis the vandalism and looting IS also a protest. Now I’m not saying all of it is justified, but it is still a form of protest just as a the Boston tea party event is seen as such.

                1. Svelaz – if the Tea Party participants had taken the tea home with them, yes you would have a case. However, they destroyed the tea, not the ship.

                2. “Allan, the vandalism and “”thuggery” was the result of a protest ”

Svelaz, you have got things backwards. Those on the radical left were looking for an event that could gain steam and they could get behind. They found it in George Floyd. They rallied normally peaceful protesters so we had masses of violent people mixed with a lot of people that like the idea of standing up behind a movement even when they don’t know what the movement is. Enough movement was generated and the radicals pushed some violence promoting looters and we got what they wanted. Destroyed neighborhoods mostly in black areas where a lot of poorer people lost their businesses and jobs along with everyone losing the ability to shop locally. The dumb left politicians say don’t worry they have insurance and it will cover their losses. Many don’t have insurance and now the premiums will climb so no one will be able to carry it. in a year or two there will be complaints that no one wants to build a grocery store in the area. (Who can afford the costs created by the left and who can buy the insurance?) They will see higher prices for goods and the grievance and victimhood committees will say it is caused by white racism. Those that make millions off of such grievances will stir up more racial hatred until the next George Floyd shows up. That is what you are supporting.

                  1. Allan – some major franchises are seriously thinking about not rebuilding their burned out stores.

                3. Svelaz, I don’t think The Boston Tea Party had wide support and it was an act many frowned upon. It remained focussed and didn’t degenerate into mob action. In fact a group of people offered to pay back the costs of the lost tea and that was not accepted by the British. I really can’t see much similarity between the two but apparently many have been poorly taught by leftists who teach dogma not history. That is why many leftists don’t understand the tremendous difference between the American Revolution leading to a Constitutional Republic and the French Revolution that led to the guillotine and dictatorship.

“What happened in Minneapolis the vandalism and looting IS also a protest. ”

That is where you go wrong. Nothing wrong with protest but as soon as vandalism and looting occur it is not longer a protest and real protesters know that. They do not want destruction or people killed so they take a step back. The vandals and the looters out in the open can quickly be managed and jailed if necessary. If you wish to mix with the violent ones then accept the fact that you have to be considered violent yourself.

I’ve been on marches facing the police. The leaders of those protests kept telling the people to not physically oppose the police. I even watched the radical left also marching encouraging young naive kids to act out hoping the police would bash the kids head in for a good photo op. They would even have preferred for the kid to die. You could see the lines of division trying to stop such action by the radical left.

          1. If the term racism needs to be explained to you then you wouldn’t be one to get it. Being tone deaf is a poor excuse.

            1. Claiming racism and claiming victimhood are most frequently used to obtain some type of tangible benefit. That doesn’t mean that racism doesn’t exist, it does, but not to the extent claimed by the rich leaders that use racism and victimhood in their fundraising campaigns.

          2. Squeeky:

Ooo, ooo, call on me: Racism is when you see a black prisoner being arguably battered by a white police officer and you assume with no other proof whatsoever that the white cop is a racist and you ipso facto have a right to riot.

        2. Svelak, A word in your ear: You need to call headquarters and tell them that you the sheeple need a new description to use for critical thinkers like me. “Racist” is so hackneyed and overused and now, of course, has been rendered totally meaningless. I’m embarrassed for you.

          1. Cindy, no, what IS embarrassing is you thinking you’re a critical thinker.

Your racism is so obvious. It’s almost a credit to you that you’re so open about it.

            1. Why are running from having to define “racism”??? Methinks you do not have a good definition other than “saying something bad about blacks, even if it is true.”

I bet I have asked that question 50 times over the years on this blog, and not one of the name-callers has ever answered it.

                1. Then let those accusing me of being a racist, set forth a definition and then apply that definition to me.

BECAUSE, the cite you offered is not racism to many people, who require racism to have a “power” dimensions. Therefore, if I use the “N word”, I am a racist, whereas a black person calling me a “cracker” is not.

That is why I ask name-callers what their definition is.

          2. Cindy Bragg — “… critical thinkers like me.”

            😀😁😂😃😄😅😉

            1. David Benson is the God Emperor of Making Stuff Up and owes me forty-five citations (one from the OED, one from the town ordinances and two from the Old Testament), an equation and the source of a quotation, after seventy-nine weeks, and needs to cite all his work from now on. – David, when we think of critical thinkers, your name never comes up.

    2. That’s terrible, NickS. I am so sorry for the good people in Minneapolis. But I am happy for the bad white people who are about to get a dose of their delusions shoved where the sun don’t shine. If they reduce or dismantle the police, it will get worse, not better.

      1. But I am happy for the bad white people who are about to get a dose of their delusions shoved where the sun don’t shine.

Betsy Hodges moved to DC after the Minneapolis electorate tossed her out on her fanny, so she isn’t getting the full dose. Muriel Bowser’s boxed in by federal policy. Useless as Jacob Frey is, the smart money says BH would be making a worse hash of it were she still in the Mayor’s chair.

        1. DSS- I hope they realize even if they disband the police they are responsible for the pensions.

    3. you can be sure that the city budget for cops will be reallocated to BLM outfits and cutouts.

this is a protection racket applied to political situations. that’s at the city level. it’s not about floyd, its about opportunities, and well organized NGOs and NFPs making the most out of them

the idiotic white liberals have been had. that you anyways liberals, you wear that white skin you’re so ashamed of and can’t slough off.

at the national level., the chicom quislings in Silicon valley are going to use this and try and get rid of Trump. whom they hate, because he dares to criticize them, and because they want to get back to business with the CCP

if you understand this as a deliberate and organized weaponization of lumpenproletariat anger by the top billionaire elites, against a rebellious American middle class lead by Trump, then, it all makes sense

  10. Umm.. no. You can spread lies but it is not sticking any more – even the suburban whites will not come to your rescue any more. You can keep the deplorables being given billions in bribe for farm aid though.

You do need to dismantle and restart. Check how Camden did it.

  11. Black Lives Matter……….except the ones in the womb, and the ones killed by other blacks. What a scam.
    What a lie.
And 12 % of the nat’l population is holding the rest of the country hostage. Why don’t they go trash the towns and villages in Africa of the descendants of the African blacks who SOLD them into slavery??!!

    1. Cindy –

I wonder when I see her yelling her opinion, which country in Africa she is from…is it one of those countries that drag you out of your home in the middle of the night and shoot everyone in the village? My guess is not. But just a thought.

Hope she stays happy as an American. 🤠

      1. WW33…..Thank you!……i would love to meet her……..and I do wonder where she’s from.
She is SO spot on…wish they would have her on a news show!

        1. She reminds me, in both her attitude and accent, of a black woman I used work with who grew up in St. Thomas.

I’m guessing she is from the Caribbean.
