Skidmore Students Call For The “Immediate Firing” of Professors Who Attended Pro-Police Rally

download-1There is a controversy brewing at Skidmore College where students have demanded the “immediate firing” of three faculty members who were spotted at a “Back The Blue” pro-police rally.  It is the latest expression of intolerance for opposing views in higher education.

According to WAMC, the student group Pass the Mic has made 19 demands of Skidmore after a “Back the Blue” rally for police from late July. The targeted faculty are music lecturer Mark Vinci and art professors David Peterson and Andrea Peterson.

Pass the Mic’s website includes an email targeting the professors and notes that the Petersons were spotted “were seen protesting with Blue Lives Matter protestors, while Skidmore alumni and students were being teargassed and attacked on the other side of the street”. They added:

This is absolutely unacceptable and reinforces what we art students have always known. That Professor David Peterson is racist, sexist, and has made a studio space that is not inclusive through his consistent mistreatment and disregard for non-cis white male students. But now he is openly advocating and preaching exclusionary, racist, and fascist ideology.

The students insist that

To remain silent and not take tangible action against the professors after this, affirms to the Skidmore community–students, faculty and staff–that the institution does not have the safety and wellbeing of those most affected by racist pedagogy. They are, simply put, unfit to teach and I demand action.

What is chilling is that the students want the school to punish the academics for supporting police and dissenting from their view: “Specifically, we want a public email from them addressing their presence at the Blue Lives protest, a conversation with the two professors about the implications this has on their pedagogy.”

The worse implication for pedagogy is the enforced orthodoxy, which the President of the university should denounce.

    1. I’m sure you meant to type that the “ANTIFA/BLM rioters are undeterred aka Biden’s” Bolshevik NKVD Thugs. Am I right or am I wrong?

  1. Mommy Butch made me stub my toe you need to tell Daddy so he can take out beyond the barn an punish him. It’s all Butch’s fault that my toe hurts. Please kiss my toe so it’ll feel better. Mommy please.

  2. I don’t understand why anyone who’s on the Blue Lives side would be personally held accountable for the teargassing of the other side. When BLM and Antifa get violent next to the “Wall of Moms” or other “peaceful protestors,” the “peaceful protestors” don’t seem to get personally blamed or held accountable, even when they later shelter the perps so the cops can’t get to them to arrest them.

  3. It’s been awhile (long while) since I’ve attended school but I remember taking an entrance exam. I sort of felt like I was a guest being invited to enjoy the benefits of the education the school was offering, if I had the intelligence to attend. Unless things have changed why don’t the schools remind the students you’re here as our guest not to tell us how to manage the school and staff. Kinda simple to understand for a reasonable person, yes?

  4. The only way to stop this metastasizing social cancer is to penalize colleges and universities that surrender to ignorant, illiberal mobs. Cut all federal funding if supine administrators give ONE INCH to anti-speech demands such as this extra-stupid example.

Disruption by mobsters should get a harsh and predictable response: suspension or expulsion. Violence should bring immediate expulsion along with criminal charges.

Give them nothing – no diversity platitudes, no odes to inclusiveness, no apologies, no compromises. Make it clear from the start that freedom of speech is a core value of the institution and stick to it. Administrators too weak-kneed or too politically attuned to the mob to properly defend free speech should be fired and replaced by ones who will.

You can bet they will be kicked to the curb if the federal money spigot is shut off. Do it!

    1. Or Mike, sue their pattooties off. Turley is a lawyer and whines incessantly about the freedom of speech and how professors, students, etc are penalized for voicing opinions. If a lawyer, professor, candidate for some sort of political position be it judge, senator, etc. is so outraged and has the weaponry at his command then sue the mofos. These institutions have huge endowments that are more or less trust funds that will never be accessed. After a few hundred million slips out of these endowments and into the pockets of offended persons and, of course, their lawyers, things will change. Follow the money, other people’s money. Time to poney up, legal eagles.

  5. Instead of funding offices of diversity these universities would be better served if they established offices of spanking.

  6. I was being assaulted the other day and called antifa. Found out it was them. Should have called BLM.

  7. A Florida ‘antifa hunter’ violently threatened a BLM activist. Now he’s going to prison for three years. Today’s WAPO

How about discussing this and free speech, etc.?

      1. Since BLM and Antifa are working together, trading t-shirts and players, it doesn’t make any difference who you blame it on. They are all the same.

        1. Good start. Separate the actions from the identities. Arrest anyone who shows up with a gun or any sort of weapon. Carry a gun and go to jail. Bottle of gas, go to jail. Baseball bat, go to jail, etc.

Protect the privilege to protest by maintaining order or lose it.

          1. “Arrest anyone who shows up with a gun or any sort of weapon. Carry a gun and go to jail”

You can trust the Communists to act like Communists. Well done Ivan!

    1. So Issac, why doesn’t that work when so many BLM/ANTIFA criminals are violently threatening people? Isn’t brandishing guns, pointing lasers in the eyes, throwing concrete chuncks, tossing incendiary devices enough? It’s been going on for months now, just turn on the news you can see it each day. All they do is catch and release. If law enforcement isn’t going to become “antifa hunters” who will? You do agree we need “antifa hunters” as you put it?

      1. The only ‘Antifa hunter’ that should be allowed should be the police. Mentally disturbed extremists carrying guns represent an escalation that approaches out and out riots and out and out perversion. Arrest anyone with a gun or any sort of weapon and then let the Supreme Court sort it out. The Supreme Court/Scalia is partially responsible for these ‘rights’ to carry. Allowing people to roam about armed to the teeth is stupid enough. Allowing them to show up at demonstrations is a stupidity of a society next to collapse, you know one of those $$%&#hole countries the idiot in chief mentioned.

        1. “The only ‘Antifa hunter’ that should be allowed should be the police. Mentally disturbed extremists carrying guns represent an escalation that approaches out and out riots and out and out perversion.”

Yes, all 10 of them? Now about people trying to protect their family and property from assault, looting, and arson. I guess–as with the rest of the postmodernists/communists–you can torture these self-defending actions into an assault all their own. Have fun with that. In the end, all these “peaceful protester” will find themselves either dead or staking out their own claim in a government provided gulag. I’m sure you’re all good with it.

          1. I take it all back. You are right. I was just looking for some attention and feel better now that you gave me some.

Cowards like me are like that. We feed off of attention from anybody and we as Anonymous cowards trolling these sites thank you for that

            1. Whoever you are, you clearly have too much time on your hands. I gave you a little attention, too, so this must be a banner day for you.

            2. “I take it all back. You are right.”

Thank you. Since the BLM-Antifa riots have been surging on for over 80 days and claiming over 30 lives, you do sound awfully silly.

    2. There will be an ever increasing amount of Antifa hunters, isaac.

That’s because if you live by the sword, you die by the sword.

So the violent sociopaths in Antifa are attracting other violent sociopaths towards them, that have differing views.

As Salinger would say; “Poetry in its purest form”.

      1. ‘So the violent sociopaths in Antifa are attracting other violent sociopaths towards them, that have differing views.’

Precisely. These valid demonstrations have an ugly and dangerous parasite; one that is simply mad, angry, psychotic, whatever. The demonstrations should be permitted and those that foul up this very important message should be arrested and charged to the maximum. Anyone who shows up with a gun should be immediately arrested and have 2nd amendment rights taken away, along with the gun. People have the right of free speech but not the right to damage, burn, loot, and assault. Society determines rights and privileges, not an individual. It’s called the law.

The acts, regardless of who manifests them, should be the determining factor here. Warehouse the offenders; but get them off the streets.

        1. “Society determines rights and privileges, not an individual”

That has worked really well for blacks in America, Jews in Nazi Germany, Russians under Stalin and….oh what’s the use. you’re such a butt licker

          1. So, you thing some sort of supreme being protects your rights/privileges/etc? Whatever society/people there is; lays down the laws. Idiots on both sides that show up to demonstrate with weapons push our society closer to the totalitarian sort that everyone on this blog warns of. What is really depressing is reading that some idiots actually believe that vigilantes and other extremists will sort this out. They will only take it to the degree of mayhem and chaos that demands marshal law. Read the newspapers, history, etc. When things get like this the police, militia, army marches in. Trump would like nothing more than to see ‘fine young men’ armed to the teeth get killed so he can call in the troops. Take your pick: idiots from Idaho or police, who would you like? The scary part is that you can almost hear the magazines getting slammed into the breaches. An expression of out of control is an expression of out of control, regardless of whether or not it’s coming from the left or the right.

  8. Nothing in JT’s article tells us how many members “Pass the Mic” has and why therefore we should care about it’s rants. There is no institutional acts or responses, so why is JT requesting one?

    1. PS If you Google “pass the mic” you get articles on a 1992 Beastie Boys tune.

  9. I am confident the Skidmore administration is considering expelling the students for their active support of the criminal syndicate Black Lives Matter. And as a liberal arts college, I am confident that the administration wants to instill in all of its students a basic respect for others’ viewpoints with which they might disagree. I’ll look outside and see if Hell has frozen over yet.

    1. Turley’s running for office. The first thing to do when running for office is to become known as a champion of something, one thing, so voters won’t get confused. Then add a couple other things. Turley’s pet peeve/cause is freedom of speech; a noble cause but I agree with Al, mix it up a bit. How about the right to bear arms that is being perverted even more with extremists showing up armed to the teeth at demonstrations? How about the inability of city and state leaders to properly contain demonstrations? How about a lot of things?

      1. “Turley’s running for office.”

And you’re headed for the funny farm, isaac.

I’ll send you some Gummy Bears once they have you medically restrained.

    2. Ahem. It’s a primarily *free speech blog*. That is its primary reason for existence. You missed something along the way.

  10. Congress and state/local legislatures should greatly INCREASE police funding for “constitutional” activities while simultaneously defunding “unconstitutional” activities (constitutionality as defined by the U.S. Supreme Court or court of jurisdiction) for a net increase in funding. This move would increase police salaries/hiring while greatly reducing lawsuits and bad practices. Legislators could easily pass this politically. It would require more accurate record keeping by police managers in order to receive more funding.

  11. I think a well-pleaded defamation suit against the author and group should shut down the stupid. THE SPLC did it the the Klan in the 80s. The Profs should do it to the new Klan now. Money is what matters to their backers so deprive them of it. CNN learned the had way. Common law conspiracy works, too.

  12. One skid and you are off balance and skid more you are on your rear end. The complainers should be called the rear enders. They need condums

  13. Civics Education – about how American government was designed to work – is vitally needed. One key point, that needs to be taught, is that police officers in the USA take an “indirect loyalty oath” governing their job duties. Police chiefs swear loyalty to the U.S. Constitution and their state constitution. Rank and file officers must follow orders from top management – even illegal orders that betray that loyalty oath. The slogan “to protect & serve” is subordinate to their constitutional loyalty oath. The Framers created the Article VI oath as a check & balance, to deter authoritarianism – where the police chief perceives himself as the law, not a follower of statutes passed by legislatures. Let’s back the blue that uphold their supreme and superseding loyalty oath to the U.S. Constitution and call out those that betray that oath.

  14. It is interesting that in following these riots I find that when one the the rioters gets really hurt, they always call for the police.

Yesterday. I saw film of ASU students marching to defund the police on campus. Campus police are the least aggressive police I have ever seen. What is their problem?

    1. Isn’t it? They are spoiled, delusional little fools. They ‘demand’? Stop. Capitulating. To. Sheltered. Children. Many of us saw this coming with the ‘safe space’ phenomenon, and it’s getting embarrassing. Grow a pair, already, academia, and remember who sends you dollars on behalf of these idiots.

  15. If if were the evangelical fellowship on campus, whatever ‘demands’ were stated, they’d be ignored and not given a second thought. The problem is that these snot-noses have a symbiotic relationship with the college administration and the exchanges between them are a pantomime. Dollars-to-doughnuts instigating this are enablers in the faculty and administration.
