I have previously criticized the Lincoln Project which has not only sought to dox Trump attorneys but fund a campaign of harassment targeting Republican lawyers, their firms, and their clients. The project was not only founded in part by lawyer George Conway but is funded by hundreds of lawyers who have remained silent as the Project engaged in such abusive conduct. Now, the Project has been reduced to open trolling with a commercial that literally has no value or purpose other than mocking President Trump. It is now an open trolling operations funded by lawyers around the country. To do so in the name of Abraham Lincoln is a particular disgrace.
In the latest commercial playing on various networks, the commercial celebrates how “The end is coming, Donald. Even Mike Pence knows. He’s backing away from your train wreck, from your desperate lies and clown lawyers. When Mike Pence is running away from you, you know it’s over: trying to save his reputation, protect his future.” The campaign relishes in telling Trump directly that one January 6th, Vice President Mike Pence will “will put the nail in your political coffin.”
That is not some posting on its website but a commercial running in prime spots on the networks. It is little more than a taunting and trolling effort. When did commercials on national television become simple gratuitous insults? This is a new phenomenon in the media to run commercials with no other purpose than casting insults or taunts. Many of us have criticized President Trump for his taunts and mocking of opponents, but those are public comments and tweets. This is not connected to an upcoming election. Indeed, it is discussing how the election is over. It is a paid commercial on national television meant to insult a sitting president simply for the joy of voicing such insults.
What is most striking is how little controversy there is over such a gratuitous commercial. There is no coverage on whether this is now the “new normal” in our politics. This is beyond the loss of civility. It is using commercial in prime time for the sole purpose of heaping insults on an individual.
The Lincoln Project seems to have ample funds for such advertisements, which is why some one the left have insisted that Lincoln Project figures be put on the top of blacklists going forward. The allegation is that the Lincoln Project is raking in millions and trying to cash in on the anti-Trump movement. Sanders surrogate Nomiki Konst and others cited the former Republicans in the Lincoln Project as the “perfect examples” of people who need to be cancelled.
I have written against such blacklisting of the Lincoln Project as I have written against the conduct of the Lincoln Project in doxxing and harassing lawyers. Yet, this most recent commercial shows how gratuitous and juvenile the campaign has become. It is now reduced to running commercials insulting and taunting the President. What legal or policy value does such an attack have? It is cathartic and childish. It is the last type of thing that Lincoln would want to be associated with. It was Lincoln who stated “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.”
Only death is good enough for these people.
And that is what is wrong with the Trump cult.

Republicans also have failed but that’s not the point, all previous presidents have had their successes and failures. The posters on this site who want to rewrite history should first learn it; this is not Orwell’s 1984, but real life.
Yes. Secession was and is constitutional. Lincoln’s acts were all unconstitutional, including the illegitimate “Reconstruction Amendments” of his successors. As usual, the “government” seizes power not provided be the Constitution and forcibly imposes its “superior” position rather than leave decisions to free people. Slavery should have been ended using the tools of freedom and free enterprise such as advocacy, boycotts, divestiture, etc. Lincoln’s successors were drunk with power and used force rather than intellect, perhaps out of a nascent love of communism, which, incidentally, coincided with Lincoln’s ascendance, the Communist Manifesto being published in London in 1848, 12 years before the 1860 election.
Forcing the impossible mixture of oil and water was never the Founders, Lincoln or America’s intent.

A.. The Naturalization Act of 1802, in effect in 1863 upon the issuance of the unconstitutional Emancipation Proclamation, required citizens to be “…free white person(s)….”
B.. “Lincoln’s Support for Resettlement”
Lincoln’s ideological mentor was Henry Clay, the eminent American scholar, diplomat, and statesman. Because of his skill in the US Senate and House of Representatives, Clay won national acclaim as the “Great Compromiser” and the “Great Pacificator.” A slave owner who had humane regard for Blacks, he was prominent in the campaign to resettle free Blacks outside of the United States, and served as president of the American Colonization Society. Lincoln joined Clay’s embryonic Whig party during the 1830s. In an address given in 1858, Lincoln described Clay as “my beau ideal of a statesman, the man for whom I fought all of my humble life.”14
The depth of Lincoln’s devotion to Clay and his ideals was expressed in a moving eulogy delivered in July 1852 in Springfield, Illinois. After praising Clay’s lifelong devotion to the cause of Black resettlement, Lincoln quoted approvingly from a speech given by Clay in 1827: “There is a moral fitness in the idea of returning to Africa her children,” adding that if Africa offered no refuge, Blacks could be sent to another tropical land. Lincoln concluded:15
If as the friends of colonization hope, the present and coming generations of our countrymen shall by any means succeed in freeing our land from the dangerous presence of slavery, and, at the same time, in restoring a captive people to their long-lost fatherland, with bright prospects for the future, and this too, so gradually, that neither races nor individuals shall have suffered by the change, it will indeed be a glorious consummation.
In January 1855, Lincoln addressed a meeting of the Illinois branch of the Colonization Society. The surviving outline of his speech suggests that it consisted largely of a well-informed and sympathetic account of the history of the resettlement campaign.16
In supporting “colonization” of the Blacks, a plan that might be regarded as a “final solution” to the nation’s race question, Lincoln was upholding the views of some of America’s most respected figures.

In spite of slave ownership, the founding fathers established a set of principles and laws that led inevitably to the end of slavery. This could not have been an unexpected or unwanted result, but it was difficult to pass at the time. Given the ordinary time frames of the historical evolution of political ideas, 70 years to effect that result is not that bad. It has been argued that Lincoln was short-sighted in not reocgnizing that minimum wage workers such as we have today would eventually replace slaves in the name of improved profit and less capital expenditure in the upkeep of slaves. However, these critics themselves are short sighted in that they do not understand the master/slave dynamic (c.f. Hegel) which requires dominance and oppression for its mainteanance and no amount of economic value arguments would have been able to undercut that reality. Both the founding fathers and Lincoln were correct in their strategies to end slavery and it would not have occured without the long term view of the former and the dramatic action of the latter.

The name “Lincoln Project” is appropriate. Lincoln was a tyrant. He abused his authority to shut down newspapers that were critical of him. And there is a memorial in Southern Maryland on the banks of the Potomac River to the hundreds of men, women and children who were rounded up from their farms in Southern Maryland and held behind barbed wire in a concentration camp on nothing more than suspicion that some in Southern Maryland might be sympathetic to the Confederacy. Many of these people, who were never charged with any crime, died of typhus while they were penned up for years until the Civil War was over. Lincoln also approved General Sherman’s all out assault on the citizenry, burning crops and starving civilians in the South. So Lincoln would likely consider the harassment by George Conway and his ilk to be relatively mild. If Trump and his allies want to counter-attack, they should buy some airtime and go after George Conway. There is plenty of embarrassing personal material that can be aired….
