Hunter Biden was back in Washington last night for a formal dinner at the White House with the Indian Prime Minister. With his plea deal and settlement in Arkansas, Hunter is apparently back in circulation. However, the House Oversight Committee has released a disturbing report on allegations from two whistleblowers on irregularities and interference in the investigation. The Justice Department is pushing back on these allegations and there should not be a rush to judgment. However, there should be answers.
I have previously stated that I was not surprised by the use of misdemeanors in the tax matters. These whistleblowers are alleging a basis for more serious charges, which may be based on undisclosed evidence. For my part, I have never thought that the tax or gun charges were the most serious matters raised by Hunter’s business dealings. Rather I continue to believe that there was a basis for charges as an unregistered foreign agent under FARA in light of past cases brought by the Justice Department. I also believe that a special counsel should have been appointed on the allegations involving influence peddling by the Biden family.
Yet, the report says that there was an effort to charge the tax matters as felonies and U.S. Attorney David Weiss was rebuffed in his attempt to bring charges in two jurisdictions. I would be frankly surprised that Weiss was prevented in bringing cases before grand juries. Whistleblowers in the IRS may not know the full story on such decisions being made by the U.S. Attorney’s office. However, that should be easily addressed by the Committee in its investigation.
The report also says that efforts to conduct key searches were rebuffed. That is something that these whistleblowers would potentially have direct knowledge of actions. Many of these allegations focus on the role of Assistant US Attorney Lesley Wolf, who is also accused of running interference with IRS agents. Again, in fairness to Wolf, allegations are not proof. She may have had legitimate reasons for her actions or may deny the allegations entirely. At this point, the House needs to call in Wolf to address the allegations.
There is also a very specific (but unverified) account of a message sent by Hunter to a Chinese businessman. Whistleblower Gary Shapley told the Committee:
“[W]e obtained a July 30th, 2017, WhatsApp message from Hunter Biden to Henry Zhao, where Hunter Biden wrote: ‘I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight. And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.’”
That would be shattering, if true. However, we need to see if it can be authenticated. If this is faked, it would itself be worthy of congressional action for those responsible.
It is also concerning that the whistleblowers recounted active interference with their efforts to steer them away from the influence peddling areas, including questioning a key Biden family associate, Rob Walker. If proven, that would be the first confirmation of an active effort to avoid gathering evidence on influence peddling by the family.
Again, those are areas where these whistleblowers would have direct knowledge and their statements to Congress are made under threat of prosecution if they are found to be untrue. That includes their allegations that key searches were denied or compromised.
Shapley testified that Wolf told them not to “ask about the big guy and stated she did not want to ask questions about ‘dad’.” He recounted how multiple people from the IRS and FBI objected to the limitations. Shapley also said that there was confirmation of meetings being set up with Joe Biden, which would directly contradict the President in his long denials of such knowledge or involvement.
The report is full of very specific accounts of meetings and decisions that warrant investigation. More importantly, there is ample basis for Congress to use its oversight and subpoena authority in light of these sworn statements. If even half of these allegations are proven, the Hunter Biden investigation itself could prove a serious scandal in the making.
One of the few Fox shows I still watch is the panel discussion at the end of the Bret Baier show and tonight watching Juan Williams try to pooh pooh the corruption and the new revelations was pathetic. Some of the Democrats that come on can be honest, but Juan and Leslie Marshall are truly just doing the party’s bidding. They should be embarrassed. Mason whetever his name is from Reuters is just a stenographer for the WH and he acts the fool.
It is time for the last remaining defenders of this corrupt dementia patient to end the holdout and admit that Biden needs to go, or at least not run again. The Dems are like the Japanese hiding in the jungle in 1962 unwilling to surrender. Either that or the mobsters in the Biden family and/or the CCP have dirt on them ala J Edgar Hoover.

This is a legal blog, and it’s the season when SCOTUS releases its most anticipated rulings. Yet it’s all Hunter Biden. As much as I believe Hunter and his dad are thoroughly corrupt and belong in jail, and as much as I can see – as can everyone else – that the DOJ and the rest of our federal government has become that of a swamp of corruption worthy of a banana republic, I do get exhausted with all of this day after day. It is highly unlikely that the Hunter Biden mess is close to over. Frankly it is likely to have gotten far worse.

Even if he does take the fifth – the house can grant him immunity and he will have to testify.
I do not know whether this is a sweatheart deal or the norm. Though that really is not the issue. The actual issue is whether DOJ intefered in the decisions.
And that is legitimate grounds for congressional inquiry.
Further even settling PART of the Hunter biden investigation precludes DOJ/FBI/IRS from refusing to answer questions about those portions of the investigations that are resolved.
Personally the settlement is more of a problem than the messy status quo.
As to the IRS WB claims – they are all testable. Again as the IRS end of things is purportedly closed – DOJ/FBI/IRS officials can be subpeonaed and compelled to testify. There is no “ongoing investigation” exception anymore.
Absolutely the allegations should be tested. If the WB’s are lying – they should go to jail. If as is more likely they are not – this is not just huge problems for DOJ/FBI/IRS but also Biden.
Regardless, this is far from done.

This is a decided legal issue. Congress has the power to grant immunity in return for testimony.
While this likely was resolve long ago. It specifically factors in Iran Contra.

The role of the executive is to enforce the law as written.
There are SOME specific areas such as National Security and foriegn policy where the president has very nearly sole power.
But for the most part the executives input in laws is prior to their passage or to veto them when congress passes them.
Once a law is passed it is the duty of the executive to enforce it – even if it does not like that law.
Congress determines the laws, and the federal budget. Spending specifically MUST originate in the house.
There is no provision in the constitution allowing the executive to ignore laws that were previously passed.
The president has unlimited power to pardon (or commute). That is the only executive power limiting the enforcement of a law.
WE have bitter holy wars in this country – because those on the left – on gaining control of a single branch of government use that branch to create law that has never been constitutionally enacted or destroy law that has been.
In SOME instances I SHARE the lefts disdain for SOME of our laws. I would have a radically different immigration system than we currently have.
But if I want that – I must persuade congress to change the existing law, and the president to sign the new law that I would prefer.
I can not through the executive alone impliment an entirely new immigration scheme that I prefer – not even if my approach is superior.
Nor can the courts change the law that exists – unless is it is unconstitutional or in conflict with prior valid law.
And even then the power of the courts is to invalidate existing law – not create new law.
This complicated process of creating law is quite important.
It is deliberately difficult to protect individuals rights.
It is also difficult because even when the status quo is clearly wrong – all change – even most change is NOT superior.
We all want to change the things that we KNOW are wrong. But the FACT born out by all of human history is that nearly all change is WORSE that the status quo.
This is true in govenrment it is true in business, it is true in our private lives.
OPutside of govenrment when we make poor changes we as individuals suffer the consequences, and nearly always nearly immediately either return to the status quo or correct the errors in our change and try again.
Changes is nearly always worse – NEARLY, but occasionally it is improvement. So long as we learn from failure and do not continue it, the net result is the slow improvement of mankind, of our standard of living, of the quality of our lives.
This is how we got from living in caves to where we are today. We have made myriads of mistakes with dire consequences to get where were are today.
Again so long as the mistakes are short lived and we learn from them the result is improvement despite the fact that we fail far more than we succeed.
In our OWN lives failure rarely effects any other than ourselves. If we make good changes – We reap the rewards. If we make bad ones we pay the consequences and hopefully learn.
But change by government effects EVERYONE, and as most change is bad – and as Government is very poor at reverting back to the prior status quo,

If he convinces a jury of just one of the charges Trump goes to prison for up to 20 years!

His first 3 years were the best 3 years I have had under any president. I am 74 years old. I remember where I was when I heard that John Kennedy was murdered. John Kennedy was certainly mmore likeable and I thought most of his policies were good for us. Trump is a love/hate situation. For those who don’t care for him, I kind of get it. He had possession of many more classified documents when he was in office for years. Obama had control of many more classfied documents in his Chicago warehouse after he left office.

They are all stored , with tight security, in a warehouse chosen and under the tight control of NARA. Obama doesn’t have free access to any of the materials. Sinclair was rumored to have been killed in a hit and run in November of 2011. Pope also said that for Obama to have attended the school he did, Punahou High School(which he graduated from in 1979), required a lot of money and it required that he start from kindergarten, but seeing that he was entering mid-level; she believes that he must have had “something stellar” which allowed him to get in, especially when he was “fresh from Indonesia.”
Manning suggested that Obama’s involvement with older white men is what got him into Punahou, and Pope seems to agree, though she used a reference to the CIA or some “force” that got Obama “set up” at Punahou. “It was certainly not a natural thing,” she said.
They both agreed that has been the way things happened for young Soetoro from Punahou to Occidental to Columbia to Harvard. Pope pointed out that interviews were conducted with those who were in the same classes at Columbia that Obama was supposed to be in and not a single person remembers him being there!
When Dr. Manning asked Pope why she thought that Larry Bland, Nate Spencer and Donald Young (all member of the church Obama attended, Trinity Church of Christ, where Jeremiah Wright pastors) were all killed within days of each other in Chicago, she said that she believed Obama’s handlers like what he is doing to the country. Therefore, in her opinion, they have kept a lid on these murders.

We are being ruled by flunkies who have no regard for law and order. These flunkies and their flock of sympathizers are plotting a course to the total destruction of the main tenant of our Constitution: “We the People…” Today a certain set of individuals are set above all the rest where FACTS can be ignored and supplement with truthful lies, as Shultz used to say “I know nothing” or the Liar’s paradox (I am lying). I worry that this course of injurious actions will become mainstreamed to the point of no return to normalcy.
