“Banning Books is Never the Answer”: RuPaul’s “No Censorship” Bookstore Lasted Just Three Days

It took just three days.

After drag performer RuPaul announced the creation of a “no censorship” Allstora bookstore, censorship was back with a vengeance after many on the left learned that free speech meant that opposing views might be sold at the site.  While the sentiment was appealing, it became intolerable when activists noted that a “no censorship” store would mean that they could not censor others.

In the rollout, RuPaul stood in a blue suit before a flag to defy the censors and embrace access to works of different authors and viewpoints. For many of us, it was an exciting moment. The anti-free speech movement on the left has grown exponentially. Now, this iconic figure from the left was taking a bold stand for free speech.

With ten million titles, readers could buy most any book, including writers like Riley Gaines who have challenged transgender theories.

Various sites like National Review have covered the rise and rapid fall of the free speech initiative.

The rollout was promising. Like many of us, the founders objected to book bans across the country. Such bans have been implemented by both the left and the right.

Allstora was founded on the pledge that “We’re a marketplace for all books and all stories, with a focus on elevating marginalized voices.” Co-founder Eric Cervini and drag performer Adam Powell, welcomed visitors to the website with a pop-up message that warned “you may find books you disagree with.”

The site declared “censorship of any book, perspective, or story is incompatible with the survival of democracy.” After all, “banning books is never the answer.”

The pledge was heralded in the media. Many viewed it as a jab at conservatives to show that there is nothing to fear in access to opposing views.

Then someone thought about what free speech means.

Liberal critics raised the alarm that the bookstore would be selling “homophobic,” “transphobic,” and “anti-woke” works. Drag performer “Lady Bunny” noted that the store would be selling works by figures like Mike Huckabee, Chaya Raichik, and Matt Walsh.

Lady Bunny asked “Why not just stop selling what many on the left consider to be hate speech?”

That is all that it took. Allstora first implemented a flagging system for offensive books and then just got rid of the no censorship pledge. While some sites state that Allstora only moved to add disclaimers, it appears that the no censorship pledge is gone and various authors are missing. I searched for books by writers like Gaines and Matt Walsh and found nothing.

The obvious response to Lady Bunny is that she is the answer to her question. In the name of combatting hate speech, she is embracing the very tool used by the most hateful movements in history from book burning to black listing of opposing views. Censorship becomes insatiable as the list of offensive topics or views grows from transgender politics to climate change to abortion. Every advocacy group finds opposing its own views to be dangerous and harmful.

It is analogous to what Gandhi said about vengeance:  “An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.” The same is true about censorship. Eventually it leaves the whole world ignorant.

  1. It appears the Left BLM are threatening to kill Kyle Rittenhouse if he speaks at Univ of Memphis on March 20 as invited by Turning Points USA. No surprise here given they censor speech, ban books and use violence to assert their authoritarian edicts. Memphis, where > 61% of population is black, is one of the top cities in the nation in violent crime

TPUSA Blasts Leftists Outraged Over Kyle Rittenhouse Event at U of M

TPUSA Ozark Field Representative Anne-Elizabeth Matheny blasted a mob of activists calling for the University of Memphis to bar Kyle Rittenhouse from speaking on campus later this month.

Former Shelby County Commissioner Tami Sawyer threatened to shut down the event if the school doesn’t pull it. “I just hope that @uofmemphis knows that if they don’t shut this down, the people will,” Sawyer wrote on “X.” Some social media users went even further, inciting violence against Rittenhouse.

“Drag his a** Memphis,” one user posted — while another leftist wrote: “He don’t know he fina get booed and sh** thrown at him I hope they steal his car he might get the MLK treatment.” Sawyer is also leading an effort — along with the schools Black Lives Matter chapter — to snatch up all the tickets for the event so would-be attendees won’t get a seat.

    1. Estovir,
I am shocked, shocked I say, that BLM would suggest violence or to seek to silence someone from speaking.

  2. CENSORSHIP, BIAS, FAVORITISM, CHARITY, AFFIRMATIVE ACTION, NON-DISCRIMINATION, FAIR HOUSING, FORCED BUSING, QUOTAS, ETC. ARE ALL IRREFUTABLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Freedom of speech, per the Constitution, allows speech that people disagree with.

Private property, per the Constitution, allows the rental and sale of property, or the refusal of rental or sale, to whomever the owner possessing dominion chooses or refuses.

Discrimination, or freedom of speech, being good while discrimination, or freedom of private property, is bad, is an absurdity and contradiction wrapped in hypocrisy.

Free Americans enjoy discrimination, or freedom of speech, while they are illicitly denied discrimination, or the right to private property.

Communists (liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs, AINOs) deny constitutional rights, freedoms, privileges, and immunities.

Communists (liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs, AINOs) impose the “dictatorship of the proletariat” in order to take and give:  “From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs,” and to impose unconstitutional central planning, control of the means of production (i.e. unconstitutional regulation), redistribution of wealth, and social engineering under the “dictatorship of the proletariat (i.e. hired help).”

Clarification for all the communists (liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs, AINOs) present:

The Founders had maximal freedom for individuals and severely limited and restricted government in mind, including the right to say what one wants and to rent or sell property to whom one chooses, etc.

  3. Jonathan: Looks like you are not the only one experiencing problems with your site. DJT promised the MAGA-landia crowd he would provide live commentary of Biden’s address to the nation. Didn’t happen because Truth Social crashed crashed at at about 9:00 pm! It happened also at Elon Musk’s “X” where users couldn’t access DJT’s live feed.

Now I know. The conspiracy crowd on your blog will claim it was a cyber attack by the Dems, the Biden WH, the FBI and Garland’s DOJ–all to prevent DJT’s commentary. Good luck with that one!

    1. No, it is purely accidental that Turth AND Trump’s X account crashed at exactly the time he pre-announced he would live comment on the Biden SOTU.

No Dennis, almost no one beleives that The Biden WH, DOJ, FBI drashed the cite – though NSA is certaintly capable.
That does not mean it was not likely a DDOS attack by the left.

The Odds of Truth and Trumps X feed crashing at the same time randomly are about zero.

Regardless, all this does is make those on the left look bad.

Like “allstoria” your all a bunch of intollerant hatefilled iddiots incapable of coexisting in a world where people do not agree with you.

There are 3 possibilities that would cause both Trump feeds to crash at exactly the same time.

1). Random chance – the odds against that are astronomical.
2). Trump’s SOTU commentary was so incredibly popular that the volume of users took it down – Possible, but not likely.
3). Distributed Denial of Service attack. Which would be a crime. No Garland did not do it, nor will he investigate.

Regardless, Trump’s comentary is readily available.

    2. Typical of the left.

      And appropriate for this topic.

First you tell us that we are unable to think for ourselves – that you have to tell us what we are going to think.
Then you rejoice in what is almost certainly an illegal effort at political censorship.

    3. I did not listen to the SOTU,
I did not listen to Trump’s critique.

From what I have heard, The SOTU was an amazing success, because Biden did not fall off the stage or descend into meaningless babble, though there were some rough spots.
It was a campaign stump speech, with claims that are absurd. The SOTU is an official act – it is not supposed to be self serving lies and political attacks from end to end. So now we have politicized the SOTU – Do not complain when Trump uses it to Bash democrats.

Overall I pay very little attention to anything from Biden. Why should I ?
There are only two choices – he is a lying criminal or an incompetent fool. Take you pick.

Nor am I mostly interested in What Trump says.
We all KNOW what Trump will do as president – we do not need him to say it.
If you put a gun to my head and say that I must vote for one of them – it is Trump everytime.
But it is unlikely I will have a gun to my head – and that means there will be better choices.

      1. John Say,
As I dont have cable, and I dont care to watch the SOTU, I watched it today.
He did seem angry. He slurred his words more than just a few times. When he messed up Laken Riley’s name, and MTG called him out on it, he looked confused then angry.
He would have us believe Russia is some kind of real threat to the whole world. Yet, the Ukraine stalled out Russia for two years. Could be argued Putin is using up troops, material to weaken America to benefit himself, China, Iran and others. But Russia is not sweeping across Eastern or Western Europe like the Nazis. Comparing himself to FDR is absurd at best and just plain dumb at the worst.
Jan6th? Really? That was over three years ago and they are still playing the fear of the greatest threat to democracy since the civil war. Really?
COVID and the vaccinations? Only the most misinformed think COVID is still a threat and the vaccines saved anyone.
His version of the economy is a alternative reality.
It was not a SOTU speech.
It was a weaponization of the SOTU.
He is a disgrace to the office of the president.

        1. Biden’s lawless DOJ is *still* going after J6 protestors for simply being at the Capitol that day. Four more arrested just this week. They are being subjected to the full perp walk treatment, leg irons, belly chains, overcharged, denied due process, and subjected to authoritarian intimidation — and that is for mostly misdemeanors! All Trump supporters have targets on their backs under The Biden Reign of Terror. Garland’s DOJ are ruthless and lawless. Corrupt judges. Corrupt prosecutors. Who is gonna stop them?

          1. Yet Biden’s DOJ/FBI investigators *still* cannot find who set up the gallows on the Capitol grounds, nor can they figure out who set the pipe bombs outside the DNC. But a J6 grandma gets the battering ram treatment. Go figure.

            1. Nor can they find who left cocaine in a bag in the White House, or who leaked the Dobbs opinion. These people would be useless in a war.

        2. Biden did make a few slips indicative of cognative problems.

But Biden has not been able to get through 5 min much less 60 in the past year.

Both the left and right had expectations/fears that he could not get through this.

          He did – not perfectly.

This does not lay to rest the challenges to Biden’s competence.
But Has Biden flubbed this – he would likely be facing the 25th amendment right now.

Overall I think the SOTU was a republican Truimph.

Republicans need to SLOWLY chip away at Biden. Republicans do not want Biden replaced – and if they do they want it as late as possible. NOT now.

It was another of Biden’s Reichstag speechs. Surprisingly those worked for him in 2022 – I would have bet otherwise.
I do not think they are working now.

it is good for the GOP if Biden comes across as a partisan liar.

it is also good if he comes accross as an incompetent fool.

  4. So the bookstore lasted more than 3 days, but the no-censorship pledge didn’t, right?

  5. We owe the bookstore, Allstora, our thanks and gratitude for scientifically proving that the left is the agent of censorship. When the left says otherwise, only one word is needed, Allstora.

    1. Marching orders: The ‘left’ is a directional heading, S. Meyer. Light is light ‘no matter which lamp it shines from’ .. . same thing with bookstores.

I was surprised to learn Joe Biden is a ‘Zionist’! I thought he was orthodox Catholic, sitting right at the foot of the cross? Like the Pope of Delaware, or something.

What is that ‘Zionist’? There’s a town called Zion over by Zachariahai deep in the heart of Appalachia .. . but it only has a post office and Speedy mart.

*was glad to hear you’re from the NYC Jews S. Meyers . .. Bibi & co. are quite mad, you know.

      1. “I was surprised to learn Joe Biden is a ‘Zionist’!”

Dgsnowden, Biden is not a Zionist. He is an opportunist, and you should recognize the difference. He has ties to racism yet pretends to be a protector of minorities. Virtually everything Biden says is a lie, said to provide him an advantage.

He is the worst type of scum we see. He pretends to be Catholic as well, but does he practice what he pretends he is? No.

“was glad to hear you’re from the NYC Jews S. Meyers . .. Bibi & co. are quite mad, you know.”

I am happy to be from NYC and to be Jewish. I have healthy goals in life, something you seem to be lacking. Bibi is mad, but in a different sense of the word than you mean. He is angry that so many people have to die because people like you haven’t learned how to be civilized.

The barbarism demonstrated by Hamas and its leaders is acceptable to you, showing us the type of person you are and what we can expect from your intellect that can’t even discern that what Biden says is an example of grave dishonesty.

        1. He is the worst type of scum we see.

He was always a sleazy politician and serial plagiarist. Now he has devolved from that elevated station to an angry, bitter senile old man who only knows how to spit venom and eat soft-serve ice cream while his diaper is changed. How can anybody even think of voting for this burned-out shell of a human being? No wonder the Dems are getting nervous about him being the nominee, ha!

I am happy to be from NYC and to be Jewish.

My father זיכרונו לברכה was born and raised in Queens. Are you from Manhattan (not the one in Kansas, ha!)

          1. Oldman, I’ve owned my home in midtown Manhattan for many decades, but that is not my primary residence. I was born in the Bronx but have also lived in Brooklyn and Queens like your honored father. However, in this new world, I rarely set foot in my NYC home.

            1. It seems to me the carrying costs must be awfully high in midtown Manhattan for a residential property you rarely use.

              1. Oldman, high carrying costs are relative and related to the marketplace and circumstances. I’ve reached a point where my interest in Manhattan is waning, so I considered selling. There is no reason to be in a rush because the market isn’t yet stable. Remember, real estate, whether for personal use or other purposes, is also an investment vehicle, and when sold, presumably, this property will be a positive addition to my financial well-being, not a negative one. I say that without counting the money it saved me in hotels, storage, and convenience. We have to remember that values went up, and the more expensive the property, the greater the rewards.

Trump’s tax cuts were costly and factor into my decision because he actually cost me money. Up till then, ATS was subsidizing this home, and now he isn’t. That means the expenses have shifted negatively.

[I support the Trump tax bill that financially hurt me because it was the correct thing to do. The leftist dummies on the blog have no understanding of economics or good government.]

                1. I’m thinking perhaps you help cover the carrying costs by renting it out, at least occasionally? In my experience, even in a suburban neighborhood a residentially property must be rented out at a relatively high rate to cover carrying costs plus depreciation.

                  1. No, Oldman, I do not rent it out. The only people I ever allowed to stay in one of my homes were family. I always try to buy a home I want, but one with a high appreciation value. I pay dearly for that type of purchase, but it is worthwhile. Renting any of the places I live is very lucrative, and I leave that option to the children.

  6. Jonathan: Looks like I was not the only one who couldn’t pull up your reaction to Pres. Biden’s “State of the Union” speech last night. But judging from the lead in to your column it was a pathetic attempt to claim Biden is trying to “push the nation further apart”. REALITY CHECK: It is DJT and the MAGA Republicans who are pushing the “nation further apart” Biden was just pointing out the obvious. The speech to Congress last night was a tour de force by a President, who at 81, has not lost his mental acuities and his ability to deliver a powerful address. A rebuke to you and all the MAGA crowd’s false claims.

And who offered the GOP response to Biden’s address? Freshman Alabama Sen. Katie Britt. Anyone watch it? It was a bizarre performance delivered from a KITCHEN–not from the Senate chambers as one would expect. My wife remarked: “How demeaning!”. In overly dramatic and hushed tones Britt seemed to be making a failed attempt to audition for “Real Housewives”! But don’t take it from me. Even Republicans were taken aback. One called Britt’s speech “comical”. TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk said: “”Joe Biden just declared war on the American right and Katie Britt is talking like she’s hosting a cooking show whispering about how Democrats ‘don’t get it'”. Can’t wait to see how SNL roasts Katie!

So if Britt is the best thing the GOP can offer they are in a heap of trouble!

    1. Says the dolt that supports Joe Biden. Who can stomach this with his campaign speech last night praising our military after his Afghanistan withdrawal disaster and then locking up one of the 13 dead marines father for voicing his disdain. Remember his concern while overseeing the return of their remains, checking his Chinese Rolex? If Biden is the best the Communists have to offer, America will be in war soon !

      1. The Afghanistan withdrawal plan was developed by the Trump administration. The plan was already set in motion before Biden took office.

        1. In fact, Joke Buydone executed the de facto Afghanistan withdrawal plan.

Real President Trump did not, in fact, execute any Afghan withdrawal “plan,” the type of plans that are typically employed as deterrents or incentives, and you have absolutely no idea where Real President Trump was in negotiations.

You are a consummate prevaricator, equivocator, propagandist, indoctrinationist, and outright liar.

        2. Really?
Yet the Biden admin reverses any and all of the Trump admins actions but will choose not to do with this one?
          You are a liar.

        3. “The Afghanistan withdrawal plan was developed by the Trump administration.”

Sammy, is this an act where you cover yourself with unbelievable stupidity to hide your absolute stupidity?

        4. Biden stopped the Trump plan, delayed, creating a mess.

Absolutely the US was leaving – Trump gets credit for arranging that. Biden deserves credit for finishing it.
Leaving was a good choice 20 years too late.

The responsibility for the government of Afghanistan rests with the Afghani’s not the US, not the president.
The people of Afghanistan had to oportunity to choose to rule themselves. They allowed the Taliban to take over.

That is not on Trump or Biden, that is on the Afghan people.

But the chaotic mess that resembled the fall of Saigon is Biden’s fault, not Trump’s

    2. The State of the Union was probably the best political speech I have ever heard. Biden showed he was not going to take crap from Republicans and he will call them out on their words and deeds.

I have a copy of Turley’s post. It was not much more then him saying how bad it was the Biden did not try to crate national unity. The post lacked anything of substance.

      1. Sammy – If Biden is so committed to showing Republicans he “won’t take their crap” will he agree to debate Donald Trump (or Bobby Kennedy for that matter)? Brave men do not hide in their basements.

        1. Trump is a liar, and a master of the Gish Gallop. It is a fools errand to try to debate someone who will not honestly debate you. I want to see a debate where the candidates are not allowed to quote “facts” that are objectively false. Trump would not get 5 words in the whole time

          1. Gigi, you used Sammy’s email address to comment.

            Cuz trolls gonna troll

            1. I’ve replied to annoying Anon before and had it come up as Dennis…

          2. If you read in detail today’s jobs report, you would know and admit that Biden would not be allowed to quote “facts” that are objectively false. Biden would not get 5 words in the whole time.
For that matter, nearly Biden’s entire economics point of view is false and gaslighting the American people.
You have drank the Biden kool-aid so much you actually believe you are better off than three years ago.

          3. And yet – the Hunter Biden laptop was real, not Russian disinformation, Trump was Spied on, the collusion delusion was a lie, democrats did rig the election, Biden did substantially burden fracking, he did F$%K up foreign policy, Joe Did meet with every single bad foreign actor he claimed he did not.
and on and on and on.

Whatever insults you lob at Trump – the majority of people prefer Trump to Biden.
23% of democrats are enthusiastic about Biden. 45% of republicans are enthusiastic about Trump.

          4. Today’s economic news./
            Unemployment Rate Ticks Higher
            U.S. Salaries Are Falling
Number of Weak Banks Jumps as NYCB Stabilized on $1B Capital Raise

          5. “Trump is a liar”

            Is Joe Biden a liar?
You’d know that Joe Biden is a serial liar, IF the corrupt media actually called out Biden’s lies, day in, day out, with the same level of obsessive ‘fact-checking’ they subject Trump to over every little thing.
Trump has been proven right about much of what the biased media labeled as ‘Trump lies.’
Trump said, “They are spying on my campaign” and it was called a “lie” by the media – including 60 Minutes. It was absolutely true. Trump was right. The media was lying.
Instead of highlighting Biden’s big lies, like the Fine People Hoax, for example, the media run cover for Biden. As a result, you Dems are uninformed, misinformed, disinformed and have literally no idea what a pathological liar Biden is now –and has always been. And not just about little things. Biden tells whoppers nearly every time he speaks. He’s known for his lying. But the fake news refuses to bring attention to Biden’s lying.

FACT CHECK: Biden is a serial liar. Far worse than Trump.

      2. Well, you finally got one thing right, it was a political speech.
It was supposed to be a State of the Union speech.
Yet the Biden admin weaponizing something else for their gain. A gain that fell flat on.
What you call taking crap from Republicans, the rest of us call out right lies by Biden.
Did you read today’s jobs report, past the headline? If you did, you would know how much Biden lied about the economy.

        1. not only is economy weak, but we have pending problems.

Everytime the Fed talks about lowing rates – inflation starts to rise again.

There are significant portions of the economy that are struggling to “wait out” high interest rates.

We all know how high interest rates and inflation harm individuals.
But they are destructive of businesses too.

Interest and inflation are costs that eat into revenue. Businesses can only tread water for so long.

Commercial office space is in real trouble – demand is way down and way below capacity and not returning anytime soon.

There is nearly 2T in commercial office debt coming up for refinance. If those properties can not refinance at lawe interest rates – many will not be viable and will default.

Retail space – particularly indoor malls face similar problems.

The Ukraine war has given the US economy a sugar high that must end. Monetary aide to Ukraine actually means Ukraine buying US weapons from US defense industry.

      3. I liked the part where he said he was gonna tax Billionaires 25% (after being in office 3.5 years).

Which of course is translated to: You better send money, I’m dying here.

      4. LOL. That is some Rev. Bacon level bull.

Moreover, BLM is gonna have a word with you. obamma, whenever he spoke, was the GOAT.

PS: biden isn’t gonna do squat to the pubs, his wife, or anything positive for the nation. He is 0-fer to date, unless you are counting campaign promises broken

        PPS, sweet trolling, though

      5. The SOTU was pretty bad as a political speech.
But more important than that – the SOTU is NOT a political speech – it is an official act of the president of the united states.

It is literally as the name suggests supposed to tbe a report on the state of the union.

Biden should have told us – not lies about how great he had done,
But what the actual state of affairs was and what he planned to do about it.

The border is a mess – and Biden and democrats own it.

Covid has become endemic, and alomost 3 times as many people died under Biden as Trump – so that is a failure.
It is self evident that doing NOTHING would have been a vast improvement.
If you can not admit mistakes – you can not learn.

The world is a mess and significant responsibility for that rests with bad energy policy, bad NATO policy, and bar Iran policy of the Biden admin – as well as the botch Afghan withdrawl. Tensions with China are higher than ever. And though the risk is still low – hopefully, we are closer to a global nuclear war than anytime since the Cuban Missle crisis.

The economy is weak. we have had over 20% inflation in 3yrs. Inflation is down to 3.2% – that is still 3 times the norm for the 21st century. Interest rates are the highest they have been in 40 years.
While all economic news is not bad – the “good news” is overmatched by bad news and we face several very large risks that Might land before the eleciton – and with near certainty will land soon enough.

The state of our education sucks. We have quadrupled spending over 40 years with the result of declining education.
Our children are not doing as well as we did for possibly the first time in US history.

The above and more are the state of the union.
The first step in overcoming a problem is admitting that you have a problem.

It is beyond Biden’s ability to get reelected. Democrats are increasingly counting on the diminishing hope of convicting Trump before the election – and the beleif that will change the election. They can not win on the issues.

If you are nuts enough to beleive that Trump is a criminal – that should scare you – you are doing so bad, that you are losing to a criminal.

    3. On what planet do you live ?

The SOTU was not a Tour de force.
It was a badly delivered political stump speech that has no business being delivered as a required official act of a president.

It is being views as a blazing success – because had Biden botched it – like pretty much everything over 15seconds he has done lately – it is likely democrats would have replaced him.

Lying does not take a great deal of mental accuity.

The border is a mess – Biden and Democrats own that. You can not blame a last minute bad deal hail mary by Senate Dems, Biden inherited a border that was close to secure. In 90 days he turned it into a disaster and it has been getting worse since.
We need new immigration law – to do better than Trump did.
We do NOT need anything to do as well as Trump did.
Most people are not stupid, blaming Trump just makes Biden look bad.

Victoria Nuland is out – MAYBE that is the end of her idiotic necon foreign plicy messes that go from the Bush administration through the present and involve a long list of unnecscary wars and conflicts.
Bush, Obama and Biden own the failed policies of Nuland that they enabled.
Trump rejected them – and the world was more peaceful.
Every single president in the 21st century has made things worse in the mideast – except Trump.
Again most people are not stupid. Bad energy policy and bad foreign policy have made a vilent mess of the world under Biden – Biden owns that.

Bad energy policy and drunken sailor spending have F#$Ked over the economy

      1. Biden’s speech had to prove a few things. In the short term, it had to prove that Biden could survive without medical treatment for 2 hours. In that respect, it was a success for Biden and his treating physicians. Amazingly, the physicians have learned how to dose his medication to keep him upright for a specified amount of time. I am impressed. The doctors even succeeded in dosing him well enough that he could scream for over an hour. That was really impressive as they took a near-comatose individual and made him into an angry, screaming old man who was able to read the teleprompter.

This speech should provide a bounce like all others of its type, but the bounce will be disappointing to the left and will only last for a short while. It was a failure because it didn’t address solutions to the problems that most people are facing.

    4. No Sen. Britt is not the best the GOP can offer, she is just a rising back bencher.
Republicans have an incredibly deep bench.

She did not deliver a stunning performance. But she did deliver one that was not lies from end to end.
      She earned a solid B.

Biden gets a C- because he did not descend into complete nonsense.

Here is Megyn Kelley delivering a fairly goood critique of the SOTU
      https://youtu.be/HaZEA0vReWY

    5. Sen. Britt was fine. The choice of the kitchen was fine.

That your wife thinks that is demeaning speaks volumes.

Britt had some relatively minor delivery problems – so did Biden, as he does every day.

Democrats don’t get it. There was little or nothing factually wrong with Britt’s remarks.

And Biden has been using the office of the presidency – including official acts such as the SOTU to attack political enemies.
      Which is highly inappropriate.

Republicans wanted Biden to fall off the podium, drool, and rant incoherently. Biden delivered a $hitty SOTU, packed with lies.
But he did not fall off the podium, drool, and his incoherent ranting was more like 2020 levels not last week levels.
Republicans wanted Britt to hit one out of the ballpark – she didn;t.

The SOTU was not the disaster republicans hoped for or that the democrats feared. But it was not good. It is unlikely to bump Biden in the polls.

  7. Most books that are banned are banned pre publisher.
That’s how it is done nowadays.
Those books are actually banned, as in you cannot buy one anywhere.

    1. If a tree falls in the forest, and there’s no one around to hear it, does it make a sound? Well, if by ‘sound’ we mean vibrating air, then yes, when the tree falls, it vibrates the air around it.

However, if by ‘sound’ we mean the conscious noise we hear when our sensory apparatus interacts with the vibrating air, then if no one is around to hear the tree when it falls, there’d be no sensory apparatus for the vibrating air to interact with, and thus no conscious noise would be heard.

So, the answer to this age-old question seems to be simple: it depends on how we define ‘sound’. If we define it as ‘vibrating air’, the falling tree makes a sound. If we define it as a conscious experience, the lonesome falling tree does not make a sound.

      *There, problem solved.

      1. The falling tree vibrated the air, which made a sound that your sensory apparatus would have interacted with had you been there.

The sound was there; you were not.

Next time, place a recording device on site and leave.

    2. Shakdi said: “Most books that are banned are banned pre publisher. That’s how it is done nowadays. Those books are actually banned, as in you cannot buy one anywhere.”

There is also the practice where, after a publisher acquires the rights to a book (which happens frequently), that publisher makes radical changes to the content to make it conform to currently popular sensibilities (i.e., “woke”). I don’t have the reference link at my fingertips this moment, but this has happened to Agatha Christie novels, as well as a large number of the works of lesser known authors. The practice is perfectly legal, as the entity making the changes owns the intellectual property rights to the content it is changeing, but I don’t have to like or approve of it, and I emphatically do not.

  8. Here is my attempt to engage in wokespeak. Help me s@@tlibs if I miss something.

No free speech for ‘nazis’ right? And of course a ‘nazi’ is anyone who opposes any part of the woke narrative. And it’s OK to do anything fair or unfair to oppose them.

From Dennis Prager and I am afraid he is right.

    Democracy the ‘god’ that failed.

I don’t want to understand, dialog or reconcile with these people. I want a divorce and would prefer it be peaceful but that is not how leftists operate.

    Let it come…

    antonio

    1. Indeed, they are not leftists, they are Communists (liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs, AINOs) In America (CIA) and of the communism initiated by Abraham Lincoln, a fellow traveler of Karl Marx, which ended American freedom after merely 71 years and commenced the incremental implementation of the principles of communism that America is subjugated by to this day, none of which are constitutional, understanding that Congress has the power to tax for only debt, defense, and general Welfare (i.e. basic infrastructure), and the power to regulate only money, commerce and land and naval Forces, and has no power to “claim or exercise” any degree or measure of dominion over private property, per the 5th Amendment.

  9. O T – Democrats think of looting as a harmless and useful form of political protest (and certainly not an “insurrection”). But the following headline from DM tells a different story:
‘Haiti will go hungry soon’ as looting sparks food shortage crisis and society ‘plunges into chaos’ – with experts warning ‘the country is falling apart’ as ‘Barbecue’ gang leader’s thugs take control” https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13172445/haiti-barbecue-gang-food-shortage-looting-crisis.html

    1. The demoncrats made that policy and murdered as many as possible in Haiti so they could fly the largest wad of their criminal whack jobs over the border into the USA.
Yes, Haiti is the highest number of the illegal flights by biden out of the 320,000 we know about.
Of course asylum BY LAW must be taken at the nearest border country.
The republicans could say this on national TV every time it is brought up but they have abandoned their best arguments as usual

  10. What? Wait…….You mean a place that was touted as a place of FREE SPEECH is banning Conservative Books/Writers. Say it isn’t so. The Marxists are ALWAYS about banning books/ideas that they don’t like. Conservatives have NOT banned any books. You can still get all the Tranny-Nightmare books you want. Just that ONLY KIDS can’t have access. If you’re adult….go right ahead and rot your brain. Sorry, you can’t rot kid’s brains with your crap.

  11. Almost every job requires some ability to think independently. There are two exceptions: censor and troll.

      1. Redundant. Legacy media is made up of those who are both censors and trolls.

      2. Censor, troll, member of Legacy media, bureaucrat at any of a very large number of Fedgov agencies…

I know quite a bit about that last item from close and personal, albeit second-hand, experience…

  12. They’re not trying to ban “Winne the Pooh” books here, they’re trying to ban books what contain porno material, both in cartoon form and instruction. These banned materials depict oral & anal sex in cartoon form that are geared towards children, to sexualize them at a very young age, for adult that identify as: “People attracted to children” {Pedophiles}. All of these banned materials are not even allowed to be read at schoolboard meetings, because of the graphic nature of the content. If it makes schoolboard members cringe and feel uncomfortable to be read at a meeting, then why should these so called “books” be available for an 8-year-old to pick up in the school library?

  13. Any parent who would allow their child into such a bus or venue, deserves the consequences, as always it’s tge poor kids who suffer for the parents poor choices.

  14. Dr. Turley:
I don’t know how else to contact you. I subscribe to your newsletter through email on Yahoo. When I attempt to read your take on last night’s SOTU address, the screen goes blank and all of your commentary from 2020 forward is erased. Are others having this problem?

    1. Turley is busy doing the dishes right now. .. you’ll have to come back ltr.

I have reviewed Biden’s SOTU speech last night and am prepared to offer a few preliminary observations.

      1. ‘Bidenomics’. If Joe Biden, or his son Hunter, was on the board of a large funeral parlor, people would stop dying. That’s the good news. The once bright line between fact and fiction has been surmounted and overcome. In no uncertain terms, in Joe Biden’s SOTU there is no stopping the greatest nation on earth as long we continue to choose ‘truth over facts’.

      2. The ‘wars’. The U.S. will continue to recruit, fund and arm only the most corrupt, fanatical and vicious war criminals on the planet. We will leave no stone unturned until Putin and ‘Hamas’ (aka Iran) surrender unconditionally upon the fields of battle. Freedom and Democracy around the world will not be sacrificed on the alter of .. . Biden’s predecessor.

      3. Old ‘age’. The Soul of the Nation, though not clean past his youth, has yet some smack of age about him, some relish of the saltiness of time.

When old age shall this generation waste,
Thou shalt remain, in midst of other woe
Than ours, a friend to man, to whom thou say’st,
“Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.” ~ Keats

    2. Dr. Turley’s take of the SOTU address is in Jetpack. There is no way to make comments on it!
