The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to resist disclosing information on claimed side effects and problems with its COVID-19 vaccines, including from healthcare workers. Due to a January order by U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk in a Freedom of Information Act case, the CDC is being forced to turn over hundreds of thousands of “free text” entries from V-safe. The court has scolded the CDC for its continuing efforts to withhold information on these complaints.
As the CDC and the Biden White House gear up for another possible pandemic, the case reminds us that we still need to address the conduct of the government — and the reporting of the media — from the last pandemic. Once agency officials were told that they could censor those with opposing views, a culture of speech controls took hold at the CDC and the government narrative was then amplified by the media.
To question such mandates was declared a public health threat. The head of the World Health Organization even supported censorship to combat what he called an “infodemic.”
A lawsuit was filed by Missouri and Louisiana and joined by leading experts, including Drs. Jayanta Bhattacharya (Stanford University) and Martin Kulldorff (Harvard University). Bhattacharya previously objected to the suspension of Dr. Clare Craig after she raised concerns about Pfizer trial documents. Those doctors were the co-authors of the Great Barrington Declaration, which advocated for a more focused Covid response that targeted the most vulnerable population rather than widespread lockdowns and mandates. Many are now questioning the efficacy and cost of the massive lockdown as well as the real value of masks or the rejection of natural immunities as an alternative to vaccination. Yet, these experts and others were attacked for such views just a year ago. Some found themselves censored on social media for challenging claims of Dr. Fauci and others.
The media has quietly acknowledged the science questioning mask efficacy and school closures without addressing its own role in attacking those who raised these objections. Even raising the lab theory on the origin of Covid 19 (a theory now treated as plausible) was denounced as a conspiracy theory. The science and health reporter for the New York Times, Apoorva Mandavilli, even denounced the theory as “racist.” In the meantime, California moved to potentially strip doctors of their licenses for spreading dissenting views on Covid.
It is clear that much still has to be done to create a culture of transparency at the CDC. Judge Kacsmaryk has slammed the agency for withholding the data on the health complaints on spurious grounds. There still appears a culture at CDC in withholding data that could be used to question its decisions or conclusions.
For a year, the CDC has been fighting these efforts. The lawsuit by the Informed Consent Action Network, revealed “nearly 8% of V-safe users said they required medical care, another 12% couldn’t perform normal daily activities and yet another 13% said they missed work or school.” With limited “boxes” supplied by the CDC, people had to write in their complications. The CDC then failed to disclose those reports.
The free-text entries reportedly support one of the most controversial moves by the CDC to downplay heart complications. Litigants say that the new disclosures show a frequency of symptoms associated with myocarditis – inflammation of the the heart muscle myocardium.
Experts raising these concerns were labeled “anti-vaxxers” and conspiracists.
As I have previously testified in Congress, the surest way to combat this culture of censorship is to pass legislation barring a single dime of taxpayer funds from being used to fund censorship efforts, including third-party groups on removing “misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation.”
The government can always speak in its own voice, but we should get the government out of the business of controlling the speech of citizens and groups. It can rebut critics on its ample platforms without using third parties to silence them as surrogates.
Additionally, Congress should demand answers on the failure of the CDC to discuss opposing views and to withhold countervailing data during the last pandemic. The loss of public confidence in both the CDC and the media could prove disastrous if we face another pandemic. The years of barring and throttling opposing views (including many later vindicated by the science) has left many Americans deeply distrustful of both the government and the media. That is a real potential health danger. If we want to prepare for the next pandemic, we need to repair that trust.

Jonathan: Fast breaking news! It now appears that KSIC, the bonding company owned by the king of sub-prime king Don Hankey, may not be what it purports to be re the $175 million bond it gave DJT. It may be overleveraged!
KSIC reports revenue of about $500 million. That means they are posting a bond that amounts to about 34% of their revenues. Pretty unusual. Yesterday, DJT’s lawyers posted paperwork listing the finances of two Hankey owned companies–KSIC and another company called “Knight Insurance Co., LTD”–which together claim assets of $2.6 billion. Only one problem. Only KSIC has agreed to front the DJT bond so you can’t combine the assets of two different companies to justify the bond.
Then there are other problems with the bond. Under NY law it limits how much money a state regulated surety can post on a single bond to 10% of a bond company’s total “capital and surplus”. KSIC has only $138 million in “surplus”. That means KSIC is posting a bond that is 127% of the company’s dedicated reserves! A big red flag!
In a bizarre move the president of KSIC, Amit Shah, went on CBS yesterday and made the claim that his company does not have to comply with NY’s capital requirements: “Knight Specialty Insurance Company is not a New York domestic insurer, and New York surplus lines insurance laws do not regulate the solvency of non-New York excess lines insurers”. Sorry, Shah, but if you want to do business in NY and with its courts you have to comply with all the laws of the state.
See a pattern here? DJT flouts the law and KSIC is trying to do the same thing. Some how they both think they are above the law. No doubt Judge Engoron will sort out this mess at the hearing on April 22. When I went for the last of the COVID booster vaccines (Oct ’22), I mentioned to the pharmacist that I had (for the first time in my life) experienced cardiac arrythmias (skipped beats/PVCs/heart palpitations) and asked if there were any association with the vaccines? He said he knew of none.
I am a healthy, fit person with no Hx of cardiac issues. A few weeks later, I asked a second pharmacist at a different location; she likewise said she had heard of none. —This, despite apparently “internal” recorded and reported incidence of same to CDC…
I did not want to visit a medical facility (at the height of the pandemic) and chose to not seek Tx but instead “stay on top of the symptoms” in case they worsened.
All symptoms ceased/resolved without further ado or sequelae. In my heart of hearts, I know they were related to the vaccines.
Bottom line: loss of trust.

Lin, I have always exercised and do so now 4-5 days a week either biking or the elliptical, but about 2 years ago, maybe less, I developed AFIB??? Has anyone heard about AFIB coming from the vaccine? I got the shot and maybe 4 boosters.

I dunno about your question, but after I learned of associative findings in medical journals, I did conclude that there were more reports of ventricular arrhythmias than atrial fib. Notwithstanding, the majority of findings simply lump all together as general “heart rhythm disorders.” (see attached link as example)
My Hx went on for about a year, coinciding with my two Moderna mRNA vaccines as well as the boosters.
Since they never worsened but were simply noteworthy, –and no one I talked to was familiar with any connection to vaccine, I dismissed them as electrolyte imbalances and reverted back to drinking Gatorade, etc. ( I have both a medical and legal background. But I know when to seek information from those who are more knowledgeable than I).
Even though incidents (with NO correlation to physical activity) would recur and subside over the months, I made no mental connection to the vaccines, –as such association had been dismissed by those I asked.

When I was a teenager in the early 1960’s, during the summers, I volunteered in a big hospital in downtown Houston as a “Candy Striper” (a volunteer nurse’s helper with a red and white striped uniform and cap) I loved it, loved pretending to be a nurse, and loved the big hospital environment (I think because of my love for the old Dr. Gillespie movies in the 40’s!!) One extremely important thing we girls were told was “NEVER give ice ( in water or tea, etc) to a heart patient!! Period”. There was a sign on the door of each heart patient in the hospital that read: “NO ICE”!!! We were told the consequences for heart patients were extremely serious.
I am now a heart patient (A-Fib, and CHF) and have NEVER been told anything about ice; however, I recently stumbled upon an article online about heart problems and read this: (From CK Birla hospitals in India) “……..drinking cold water is considered to be one of the major triggering factors for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia in patients who already have a heart problem. It is not only drinking cold water that you should be avoiding but also swimming in such water.”
I know nothing about Birla hospitals and their research, but think it’s very very interesting to hear about this again, after 60 years of not thinking about it. I’ll talk to my cardiologist this week, as I have always put tons of ice in my water glass, all day long…(and having A Fib problems again, I have now stopped with the ice!)
Cindy, as someone who has a mother (94) who is a retired nurse and whose only 2 nieces are both nurse I have great admiration for the profession.
As for the AFIB, sorry that you have it too. I developed it about 2 years ago and I had a cardio version (shock) that stabilized me for about 9 months, but since then I am in AFIB all the time. My pulse is slow due to Atenolol and I take Xarelto for blood thinning ( I have a history of blood clots as well) and my heart doc said that I will be fine due to the slow pulse and the blood thinner.
The rest of the story is that last week my pulse was 42 and I cut the Atenolol in half and I am now on a monitor for a week and if it is still too low I will be getting a pacemaker. I always thought the low pulse was good since I exercise a ton, but we shall see.

I take eliquis and a lot of other “stuff”! I had the cardio shock a couple of years ago…and was fine and in rhythm until 6 weeks ago…One nurse told me she thought a tooth infection that I had 6 weeks ago might have caused the AFib to act up! (They now want to do an ablation) I wouldn’t be surprised to find the vaccine caused your AFib. . BTW, although I took a biology course for student nurses in college, I couldn’t grasp chemistry, etc, so I became a public school music teacher….but I, too, have a great admiration for nurses. Lin, so nice to hear that you enjoy the bike too. I played hockey until I was 40 (just high school and pick up leagues afterwards and when I got a bit too old for that I ran for about 10 years…until I needed hip replacement!!! For me the bike is a godsend because I can do it as much as I want without killing my now 2 fake hips. Biking, and the elliptical to a lesser degree, are wonderful for people that want to exercise without damaging their bones. I am not a swimmer, sadly.
I did get the Moderna shot, so who knows if it cause the AFIB. I do know that it is a hassle whenever you need any kind of procedure.
BTW, I have a legal background as well…and I also am back on Gatorade!

Jonathan: This is your intrepid reporter back with an update on the $175 million bond posted by Knight Specialty Insurance Co, a little known California bonding company owned by Don Hankey, the king of subprime car loans. In my comment (4/04/24@2:10pm) I pointed out that the NY Appellate Division Clerk rejected the bond as defective and required KSIC to submit a financial statement.
This came to the attention of AG James who filed a motion with Judge Engoron yesterday. She pointed out that KSIC is not recognized in NY under the state’s insurance law as a legitimate bonding company. In her motion James “takes exception to the sufficiency of the surety to the undertaking” and asks Judge to order KSIC “to file a motion to justify the surety bond” and to provide further information about the collateral provided by DJT. Judge Engoron has ordered a hearing for 4/22 on James’s motion. That should be interesting.
Why is this important? It shows DJT could not get a bond from any other legitimate bonding company in NY–maybe because he has been adjudged someone who engages in persistent business fraud and his CFO is going to jail for fraud and perjury? So he had to turn to a used car dealer to bail him out.
Why would Don Hankey agree to post a bond for someone who is such a poor credit risk? It’s Hankey’s business model–he loans to people who have little or no credit. What’s in it for Hankey? He will get his pound of flesh. He will charge DJT huge fees–maybe up to $10 or $15 million. Beyond that Hankey will want something else from his client. As a political backer of DJT and a contributor to his campaign, Hankey probably wants something else. If DJT gets back in office Hankey expects a quid pro quo–maybe relief from frequent DOJ lawsuits over his unlawful lending practices?

Today’s medical education (meded) pipeline is not encoraging. MD students and trainees are being groomed as Marxist “equity” front line guardians at the expense of scientific acumen. As regular readers on here know, I argued in 2020-2021 that COVID had less to do with a killer virus than an individual’s immune system genetic fitness. Problem is few MD trainees are taught nor encouraged to understand the ever changing paradigms within the field. Time was when the immune system was thought to be little more than a quaint feature that caused allergies and produced antibodies. HIV / AIDS opened the eyes of scientists and academic physicians and showed that they knew next to nothing about the immune system, e.g. T cells.
We are still stuck in ancient medical paradigms. As I argued on here 3-4 years ago, our immune system is well equipped to handle whatever pathogens are thrown at it. Evolutionary pressures are like that. A minority number of individuals have what is called SNPs – single nucleotide polymorphisms. Receptors are like a keyhole in a door, and viruses are like a key. Receptors can catch the viruses and kill them. However some individuals have jagged keyholes (receptors) where the virus will not fit, and consequently the receptor is nonfunctioning. Innate immune cells like monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, and neutrophils are veritable arsenals of explosive munitions that can obliterate just about anything. However, the offending agent (e.g. virus) has to be recognized by the innate immune cells pattern recognition receptors (PRRs). PRRs are made of proteins and proteins are made of amino acids. One single amino acid substitution can alter a protein, esp a PRR, making it a liability. Sickle cell disease is caused by a single amino acid substitution, making the protein Hemoglobin, malfunctioning. If future physicians are more fluid on WOKE, DEI and Marxist language instead of epigenetics, immunology and protein chemistry, everyone suffers just like the current situation in the UK
It is clear to immigrants who fled authoritarian nations that America is following the same trajectory, and with Professor Turley’s article on the CDC and “Biden’s regime”, to quote OLLY, Americans need to practice preventative medicine and embrace fitness ASAP. Prof Turley is too kind in saying that there are now questions about the validity of the government’s “suggestions”. It is fairer to say that is clear that the idea of closing down schools and businesses was disastrous, causing damage that is still being felt. I disagree that we need to repair trust in government agencies; quite the contrary. We need to stop blindly trusting that the government, or the media, or the WHO or NATO or the WEF or the CIA or whatever it is, wants what’s best for us and start to use those inconvenient things that hold up our hair, i.e., our brains.
I was following the news from France early in the “pandemic” so I knew that hydroxychloroquine worked – in fact, it was described by many as miraculous. I prayed that someone in the US would take notice, but I didn’t expect that someone to be Trump. On March 7, 2020, at a presser, he advocated for the use of HCQ to treat covid. I expected the media to reject anything Trump, but figured that saving lives would outweigh Orange Man Bad. Instead, I saw the media double down, the pharmaceutical industrial complex coming up with fake studies pretending that HCQ was some kind of dangerous experimental drug. In particular one of the claims was that HCQ was damaging to the heart, while the truth was that it was contraindicated for those with a preexisting heart condition.
I also knew, again from French research, the Covid’s danger to children was statistically nil. They didn’t get the disease, they didn’t spread the disease, they didn’t die of the disease. When the “vaccines” (they had to change the definition of vaccine to be able to call them that) were rolled out, they forced them on adolescents and children despite knowing that their category of risk was nil. All of these things were known and reported on at the time but not by the mainstream media. If people had known, or suspected, that their children’s risk of heart disease from the shots was infinitely greater than their risk of serious disease from Covid, would they still have gotten the shots? If they had known, or been told, that the shots didn’t protect against transmission, would they still have gotten injected?
It is clear that Professor Turley really wants to trust the government and of course, it would be nice. But it is not realistic. Our problem in this country is not a lack of trust – it is abdicating thought in favor of trust. Critical thinking is not just a right – it is a responsibility. It is a responsibility we have shirked. I hope and pray that trust in government agencies may never be restored – instead, I hope to see watchdog agencies empowered to keep an eye on government shenanigans.
I also did a lot of reading around that time, and I made an informed decision NOT to get vaxxed. I am a medical shut-in, and supposedly one of the vulnerable categories. But, I continued smoking my pipe (a defence against COVID, believe it or not – something to do with nicotine, IIRC), and taking my normal meds, one of which supposedly also protected against COVID, and I never got the stuff, although exposed. I have also never gotten a flu shot, since elementary school, back in the 1960s, and I have not ever gotten the flu. I always figured flu shots made you more likely to get the flu, and now there is actually some research to back that up. I am looking for the article that said that.
