The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Government: Rep. Goldman Insists that the Country is Safe in the Hands of Others

Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, wrote “The President [of the Galaxy] in particular is very much a figurehead—he wields no real power whatsoever. […] His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it.”  This week, Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-NY) seemed to be taking the Hitchhiker’s Guide as a guide for government. When asked about the alarming physical and mental decline of President Joe Biden, Goldman suggested that it really does not matter. In responding to a call for Biden’s removal under the 25th Amendment, Goldman suggested that the Republic is safe because it is safely in the hands of people around Biden. It is an argument that flips the 25th Amendment on its head and embraces the idea of a figurehead president.

After the Hur report was released noting the diminishment of the President’s faculties, Goldman was one of the most vocal in shouting the Special Counsel down. He went public declaring that the President is “sharper than anyone I’ve spoken to” on public policy issues.

He has continued brushed away the growing calls for President Biden to step aside as incapable of serving another four years. Indeed, some are calling for an investigation into whether he can carry out the duties of his office until January 2025.

“So, let’s not just focus on Joe Biden here. Let’s focus on the people around him, the administration, the policies, and most importantly, the appreciation and protection for the rule of law and our democracy that Donald Trump, every single day, has vowed to take down.”

He added that Biden is “vibrant” and that “the reality is that Joe Biden has surrounded himself with an incredibly capable team with almost no turnover.”

Other Democrats have attempted to avoid the manifest confusion and infirmity of the president. This includes Democrats who repeatedly called for formal action to remove former President Donald Trump under the 25th Amendment, including Reps. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.; Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash.; Jamie Raskin, D-Md.; Maxine Waters, D-Calif., and Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

However, it was Goldman who, as usual, came up with the most vertigo-triggering spin.

The 25th Amendment was designed to specifically avoid a figurehead presidency where family or aides perform critical functions of the office. That was indeed the concern with presidents like Woodrow Wilson when a stroke left him incapable to function as president. His wife Edith hid the truth from the public and the Congress as she and others carried out his functions.

He also had “an incredibly capable team” around him, but they were not elected president.

In the meantime, the media is still struggling to explain to the public why they did not disclose the President’s condition earlier while promulgating the “cheap fake” narrative. For weeks heading into the debate, media outlets repeated the claim that videos showing Biden’s confusion were false and misleading. Some are now reportedly admitting that they did not want to confirm “right-wing media” accounts — an admission of shaping the news for political purposes.

The greatest threat to President Biden may ultimately be the political calculus. For most of these members, their loyalty to Biden ends at the point that he endangers their own hold on power. A couple dozen members are reportedly preparing a letter calling for possible removal in the hope that they can replace Biden with someone who has a better chance of beating Trump. It is no easy feat, but Democratic operatives are furiously working out the complications under federal election laws and state laws.

In the meantime, the 25th Amendment process is looming. More citizens may become convinced by what Pelosi said about then President Donald Trump: “Congress has a constitutional duty to lay out the process by which a president’s incapacity and the president of any party is determined…A president’s fitness for office must be determined by science and facts.”

  1. Aside from the fact that the people who are running the executive office were not elected, their decisions have been awful. They’ve made the world a more dangerous place. Since I don’t know who they are or how they came into power, I’m not sure if this qualifies as a coup or not.

It’s kind of funny watching Biden, who cannot function as president, try to cling to his job when we’ve been told that it’s Trump who wouldn’t leave, actual experience notwithstanding. Jill probably likes her role and Hunter probably enjoys being top advisor, in spite of questionable ability and conflicts of interest (and we’ll just ignore the whole security clearance issue). Also, if Joe leaves, the family business declines and has to deal with legal problems.

The job numbers were just released an hour ago. For the past year, the revisions each month have been large. Also, government hiring continues to increase. Inflation is still too high to cut interest rates. The people who are not happy with the Biden economy have good reason to feel that way.

Goldman is a complete hack, although he is not stupid.

    1. As to Hunter having no ability, gimme a break. He speaks Ukrainian, knows the worldwide fossil-fuel-based energy market backwards and forwards, has run wildly successful hedge and like funds on three continents (maybe South America too), formerly ran Amtrak, was (I think) a board member of the most popular credit card in the United States, can score heroin on four continents, was a proud member of the NRA for 14 days, … must I go on?

      1. MBNA was a bank with HQ in Delaware. Joe helped pass some favorable laws, so the joke was that he was the Senator from MBNA.

        From Wikipedia:
After graduating from law school in 1996, (Hunter) Biden accepted a consultant position at the bank holding company MBNA, whose employees donated more than $200,000 to his father’s senate campaigns over the years.[15][24][25] Biden delayed his start date at MBNA to serve as co-chair for his father’s reelection campaign.[26] By 1998, Hunter Biden had risen to the rank of executive vice president.[15] Biden departed from MBNA in 1998.

Nice work if you can get it.

I should clarify my statement about Goldman — I’ve never spent any time listening to him because he’s so very biased. He seemed smarter than some of similar ilk, but I really don’t have a dog in that fight.

  2. At this point I hope the Democrats ride Dear Old Joe on till the election and then off into the sunset. It would serve them right. Unfortunately he (and his politburo) has done major harm to the country already and I’m not sure he can do much more but that is a hope and not a fact. There is no accounting on what some people will do to hang onto power. If they keep him on the horse then my sincerest hope is that there is massive beating ahead for the Democrats and maybe significant gains in the House and Senate for the Republicans. Then proceed to do exactly what the democrats plan to do in order to counter their plans.
They are not going to quit despite any such set backs.

Besides Woodrow Wilson, one should look at the last 1 -1/12 years of FDR after his major heart attack. A lot of information has been released over the last few decades. Much of it is medical. He had untreated hypertension when elected in 1932 but there was no significant treatment available. Recordings of his BP were horrible and actually what we would call malignant hypertension now. It, of course, only got worse in the presidency. He smoked. After his heart attack in late 1943-early 1944, He was often detached from 1/1944 on because of severe congestive heart failure even as the BP grew worse he traveled less and less. Did not go to the Democratic national convention in 1944 but only talked with them by phone. When he summoned enough strength to go to Hawaii to meet MacArthur and Nimitz in 1944, MacArthur was stunned by his appearance and wasting. Very few photos taken over that period. His Staff managed the presidency. The cerebral hemorrhage that killed him was simply the further progression of his disease. Look at phots of FDR in 1944, 1945 when he was with Stalin and Churchill.
    FDR died at 63.

 He’s not fine.

    Wag the Dog.
Life imitating the movie’s or maybe movie’s imitating life?

  4. Rep. Goldman as so many others in our representative government cares less about their Article VI mandate. Their Article VI mandate is a contract, willfully entered into, that binds them to our Constitution and ultimately the People. This Contract is in effect for the duration of their participation in our representative government. Their mandate requires each to support ( synonyms: uphold, protect, defend, and enforce) this Constitution. Our Constitution’s Laws, Limits and Protections are absolute.

    There is no ambiguity in Article II’s first sentence;
    Article II Section 1
“The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America.”

The Constitution does not allow for a team to have shared authority in the executive branch. What Rep Goldman is advocating is a direct violation of constitutional law and of his Constitutional mandate.

What we are witnessing is an unconstitutional executive branch that is willfully violating the Supreme law of the United States in order to keep power. Democrats are not only ok with this illegal behavior, but are actively working to continue, at all costs it’s unconstitutional existence.

We must demand that all three branches of our representative government fulfill their mandate to support, protect, defend, and enforce the Supreme laws of our Constitution or vacant The People’s Government.

    1. When Democrats say the phrase “our democracy” replace those words with “our regime”. You now have a better understanding of that they truly mean.

  5. “Let’s focus on the people around him,”
    So, Jill and Hunter Biden.
Yes, there have been reports, coming from NBC, of Hunter now sitting in on meetings and calls for senior staff members and advisors.
Are those the people who we want running the country?
No one voted for those people.

Their policies? No wonder Putin endorsed Biden. Another 4 years of Biden admin would benefit the Russians, China, Iran, Hamas, the Houthis, the drug cartels and more.

  6. But “We the People” did not elect these (Greaat People) behind him to have any power of the presidency and that is the type of ideology that is ruinous to our Republic. The prog/left needs that sort of ideology in order to fundamentally transform this nation. Obama was the source of our destruction and his puppets are continuing that destruction.

    1. …and the puppets are doing this with the daily guidance of BHO

  7. The smartest move the President Biden ever made in his political career was to select Kamala as his Vice President. If they try to get him out, they get her. Brilliant.

This is classical gas lighting (Classical Gas) by those who are in full blown panic and disbelief that Joe was unmasked for all the world to see.

Those with a shred of common sense could see his diminished and declining cognitive abilities long before the election. Is thisvtge reason for this administration’s disdain for free speech? Is this the reason Mark Zuckerberg dropped hundreds of millions of dollars to targeted districts before the election? The reason that the “intelligence” experts denounced Hunter’s laptop as “Russian Collusion?”

What we have witnessed for the past three plus years is a systematic and coordinated assault on the fundamental precepts of this nation, its citizens and our way of life. Of course the arrogant elite are upset.

If the President of the United States is a figurehead, then why all the fuss about President Trump?

    What a crock bovine excrement!

    1. E.M.
      Well said.
We have all seen his mental decline as far back as 2020 when he campaigned from his basement.
But we were told we were right wing conspiracy theorists! We were lying! He is sharp as a tact! He has greater stamina than his younger aides!
      Then the debate happened.
Now, we are not supposed to focus on the president, but the people around him.
His family? Ohhh, there is a bunch of qualified people. Dr. Jill. Hunter.

      1. Jill is the most powerful person in the White House. I bet it will be hard for her to let it go. This situation is quite scary in a bad way.

  8. Goldman is just an arrogant, partisan moron, in other words Swalwell with money.

    1. Imagine a dinner with swallwell, goldman, and raskin…makes the squad seem appealing. What a group of lost (read corrupt) sheep.

  9. This Democratic National Communist just said what we all should have learned over the last 3 years. There is a “shadow” government running the country. It is not directed by an individual but directed by a gaggle of Communists. That gaggle of “directors” has in fact taken over the governance of a country. That is exactly why it is crucial for them to block by any means (Lawfare for now) anyone from taking control of the Government that is not part of the Community governance Plan. Additionally, they cannot have their Operation exposed to the Public (Media is a crucial part). It is time for the Citizens of the United States to say no more.

  10. You stupid peasants, a President means nothing, we the nomenklatura will take care of everything. You just enjoy your “democracy”🤣

  11. Goldman has an agenda known only to himself, but one about which his constituents ought to be seriously concerned.

  12. Goldman has simply laid out the calculus that the Democrats made when they put Biden in power. They knew in 2020 that he was in early dementia and that his condition was likely only to get worse. They also knew that almost all government personnel are Democrats, and that even in Republican administrations the Democrats can continue to govern (or frustrate the appointed Republicans who are nominally in control of those departments). In a word, the Deep State is most of government, and the Deep State is all Democrat.

Goldman’s gaffe also calls attention to how little is left of our representative democracy. Congress is not quite a figurehead, since Congress theoretically passes bills that fund the government. However, most of any year’s budget is devoted to existing programs that must be funded; the only debate is the level of increase in expense. The administrative state, by design, is self-perpetuating.

The soap opera that we call politics is mostly for entertainment.

  13. “science and facts” — strange coming out of Pelosi’s mouth. Science tells us that dementia is permanent and progressive. But hey, that’s only what real science says. DEI science tells Dems that dementia is a one-night gig and Joe will bounce back!

  14. In the movie Sleeper, Woody Allen sleeps 200 years and awakens in a future where the USA has become a police state, somewhat like the one that Democrats are trying to create now. A group of rebels blow up the National Leader, leaving only his nose intact. This uncomfortable fact is hidden from the public. Meanwhile, the government saves the nose in a glass case like a totem, otherwise carrying on as though nothing has changed. Maybe Uncle Joe will also end up in a glass case.

      1. The voice of the computer in this clip is that of Douglas Rains, who was also the voice of the computer HAL in 2001, a Space Odyssey.

  15. Nice to see Turley ignoring Trumps plan to try his political opponents in televised military tribunals.

    1. I would love to see Pelosi’s emails and texts pre-J6 to her congressional buddies and whoever else baked that pie. In my dreams…

    2. But you have no issue with Democrats actually putting their main opponent on trial in 4 states.

      1. Nope. Trump is being charged and tried for real crimes that he actually committed and gets full (even more the normal) due process. It is telling that MAGAs don’t know the difference.

        1. Please explain the difference between paying off a whore via an attorney and murder; one seems interesting to dems to prosecute, the other, not so much.

      2. HullBobby,
He is lying again, just like the lie he told the other day about Trump losing his SS detail.
Lie, lie, lie. It is all leftist Democrats can do.

  16. I’ve been telling my Democrat leaning friends this next election is not about Trump or Biden. It’s about the Biden policies and people in his administration. If you like their leadership and policies vote for them but don’t complain about another disastrous 4 years and then blame Conservatives

    1. @Dollar Bill: RE:”. It’s about the Biden policies and people in his administration.” …..like Alejandro Mayorkas, the social justice warrior carrying the banner for the tired, poor, huddled masses, the wretched, tempest tossed refuse of the teeming shores from whence Trump warned us ‘their worst’ would come, and have. The odyssey of Mayorkas mother, escaping WWII torn Europe through France, then to Cuba where she met his father, then fleeing Castro to California is explanation enough for an personal agenda which placed immigration issues first, for him. I trust that the saccharine, smug look on his face, as he told us the borders were secure, is a reflection of satisfaction knowing that he has done his job well to the detriment of the rest of us.

      1. “If you bring them HERE from THERE….be rest assured that they will bring THERE here.” Be careful what you wish for.

    2. Same here Bill. I ask them “what, exactly are you voting for this year?”. Without exception, so far, what I get is Trump-screed. I try to bring the convo back to policies and results and convince them to view DJT as a bridge to more acceptable leadership in future. No luck so far.

  17. That’s so funny, yesterday we were discussing J.B.’s replacement at the BBQ.

Kamala Harris – No (Unwilling & Trapped)
    Gavin Newsom – No (Unwilling)
Nancy Pelosi – Pres. Possibly (Long Shot)
    Daniel Goldman – V.P. Yes
Gretchen Whitmer – Pres. Possibly Yes
Josh Shapiro – Pres. Possibly Yes
    JB Pritzker – No
    Andy Beshear – No

    Upset Candidate (Indi-Dem)
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – On Ballot (The DNC should have welcomed him in – big mistake)

The DNC has a campaign vacancy problem.

  18. Dan Goldman, based on his many statements and defense of the Radical Left, Corrupt Power Hungry Dem/s and other radical groups is simply a “CLOWN” He is from another Planet. He defends whatever the DEM’s/Biden do.

  19. So Democrats are shocked at the idea of “King Trump” but happy to have President Howdy Doody, as long as they trust the puppeteer(s)?

  20. 4 Months to go! 👨‍💼 Trump 🦅 | 🥴 Biden 😵
