In a new sign of the intolerance of our Age of Rage, liberal activists in D.C. have forced a politics-themed bar in Washington, D.C., “Political Pattie’s,” to remove the GOP political symbol from its building. The GOP pachyderm will be packed away to protect the sensibilities of Democrats. The appearance of the elephant was too triggering for liberals and boycotts were being threatened.
According to The Washingtonian, “Political Pattie’s,” the red elephant was removed before the opening because it “was hurtful to the community.” No party symbols will be shown so that D.C. customers feel safe or at least satisfied in the space.
In a statement, owners Andrew Benbow and Sydney Bradford explained that “soon after our logo was painted on our building’s facade, we realized that the representation of the red elephant was hurtful to the community.”
While both Benbow and Bradford support Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, they were hoping to encourage discourse and “promote unity,” according to Roll Call. Democrats would have none of it. They will also now repaint the word “Political” on the sign in blue to help maintain the apparent safe space for liberals.
The owners added “We view the online backlash that we’ve recently received to be mean spirited, especially considering our original and continued intent to be a space that is welcoming to ALL people, including members of the LGBTQ community.” Yet, they yielded to that threatened cancel campaign.
Roughly half of this country is Republican or conservative according to presidential voting patterns. Yet, many Democrats cannot tolerate even the inclusion of both symbols for the political parties. They will now be able to eat and drink in the same type of echo chamber where they receive news and discuss politics. The “hurt” will be gone with the reference to alternative viewpoints.
This is really simple. Stop voting for so-called “Democrats”. They are nothing of the sort.
This is really simple. Impose the voter qualifications of the Founders. Never was the American restricted-vote republic intended to be a one-man, one-vote “democrazy.” Democracy has been of the restricted-vote republic type since inception in Greece and perpetuation in Rome and America. The Founders and Framers intended for States to restrict the vote through their legislatures.

Of course, you couldn’t.
Political Pattie’s took down the donkey mascot as well. It seems easily triggered progressives are so loathed to marginalize their political opponents that they will also deny themselves their identity. Oh well, who among them has ever liked being identified as an ass anyway? Next on the agenda for the snowflake crowd is to intimidate Political Pattie’s into forbidding customers to discuss all aspects of conservatism. A reign of terror is well underway in America and shall not subside until all opposition has been wholly subdued.

They should have cut the donkey in half put it back up and renamed it Political Pachyderm’s half ass!
maintaining the jack*ass er-uh donkey symbol would just signal potential customers that only Democrats or leftists are welcome

Hey, whining, oversensitive, woke idiots! Come to South Jersey and try to get this elephant removed!
https://downbeachbuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/lucy.jpg
BTW, for those speculating about whether it was Dems or the gay bar patrons who whined until the elephant was disappeared, I’m voting for the Dems, on the basis that many gay folks these days seem to be far more politically rational than Dems typically are. NJ, for example, has a gay Republican hotelier from Cape May who has a husband, Curtis Bashaw, running for the U. S. Senate seat “vacated” by Bob Menendez. Just to make things even tougher for those who want to substitute snap judgements for thought, Bashaw is the grandson of twentieth century firebrand right-wing preacher Dr. Carl McIntyre, of Radio Free America fame (the FCC pulled McIntyre’s broadcast license in the 1960s because of his radical politics, so McIntyre, who was wealthy, set up a buoy with a transmitter just outside the 3 mile limit, called it RFA, and thumbed his nose at the FCC by relaying his content through that. Bashaw’s politics are more moderate than his grandpa’s, and even more than Trump’s, but for NJ, he is a pretty good find.
I remember Lucy when I was as 5
She was old and decrepit then
Good to see the efforts to save her prevailed
Looks great
Yes, the organization in charge of her does a great job on maintenance and on the fundraising to support it. I lived in Margate when I was very young, I first climbed to the top of Lucy when I was 4 or 5, so, as inanimate objects go, I consider her an old friend.
Stanford marketing course requiring DEI statement to enroll
“Moreover (and unfortunately), the term ‘diversity and inclusion,’ in today’s academic context, has acquired controversial political overtones which students may justifiably hesitate to endorse,” Rauch said. “A student could reasonably conclude that the teachers of this course intend to screen out students who disagree with them politically.”

DEI agreement statements? Why not make it easier—> promise to hate whitey .
No wonder the usa couldn’t tolerate these people
Proved.
Adieu
When is it time to just declare the radical, progressive,, left totally insane and without contact with reality and just consign them all to mental institutions?
further proof that leftist are thin-skinned
guess they’ve never heard the old saying “sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me”
Soon after our logo was painted on our building’s facade, we realized that the representation of the red elephant was hurtful to the community.
Lefties painting a red elephant on a “political” establishment in D.C. for diversity and inclusion? BS. This was nothing more than a planned pre-opening “controversy” to boost attention in a city littered with liberal establishments.
Olly, the owners of the bar were both Republican and Democrat. They were also situated in a predominantly gay community surrounded by a bunch of gay bars. All they did was remove BOTH logos. The donkey and elephant from their signage. They still kept the bipartisan theme and colors.
George, reading comprehension is needed here.
You predictably and dependably started here today, again railing against JT.
DO you even get it? What does it matter that the owners were both Democrat and Republican, (even though YOU conveniently deleted reporting that the Republican described himself/herself as ‘incredibly moderate’ and voting for Harris). AND you have brought up the “”LGBQT” angle in at least three different posts here this a.m. What does that have to do with it.?
Virtually ALL the reported coverage of this story have headlines referring to the GOP logo being removed because the OWNERS said that it was “hurtful” to the community. (The Spectator, Boston Times, WAshingtonian, Yahoo, etc.)
Not only do you come off as extremely LGBQT, but also as a “weirdo” so conventionally biased that you cannot even take JT’s blog in context. Kruger-Dunning, George? Or is it Dunning-Kruger?
The LGBTQ angle comes from the same article Turley used to portray the misleading article. The bar is situated among in a predominantly LGBTQ community and it’s part of a neighborhood that is full of gay bars. That gives greater context in the complaints.
It’s amusing when you try too hard to insult.
Actually he comes off with a LGBTQ savior complex that demeans gays
It is my hope this is a reflection of the mental fragility of democrats
Not a broader claim that gay and trans people fall apart if they see a red elephant
It’s not about “falling apart.” It may be because it’s a very political town, and Republicans are well known for their anti-LGBTQ positions. If some complained about the symbols and the bar voluntarily made the change, why would it be a big deal? The owners were not defensive or outraged about it. They understood the problem and made a wise business decision, given their location.
Yes it is a big deal
It is a symptom of the intolerance of the left
You like to make nazi references
But we ended up with a world war
Because first local Germans ignored the nazis
After all it is only symbols
Let them have what they want
They harm is small and we are not hanging arround with them anyway
Then it was German political leaders appeasing intolerant Nazis
Then it was European leaders
Then it was world war
Claims that the left is tolerant or values diversity are big lies
While your intolerance has new targets
It is as vile and virulent as the Nazis
And the nazis sent both Jews and homosexuals to the crematoriums
That made it all ok
George
Pointing out irrelevant facts
Or worse damning ones
Does not help your argument
It is the left that is ants about diversity
You can not have diversity if you are too fragile to tolerate a red elephant
John B. Say, making a big deal out of nothing is your argument, not mine. The bar made a small change while keeping its overall theme, and Turley is just trying to stir up controversy. Location matters in business, and the community’s concerns have been noted.
You said this was about symbols
It is therefore clearly not about nothing
The bar made a small change
But the force during the change was fragility and intolerance
I fully understand the bar owner’s decision
That does not alter the fact that those demanding the change are fragile and intolerant
Businesses have to cope with that in customers
I am not demanding the bar stand up to the fragile intolerant left wing mob
Nor is turley
But both of us are calling out the mob for their fragility and intolerance
No one is demanding laws
No one seeks to force the he elephant back up
But we are criticizing the fragility and intolerance of those so weak they are harmed by the symbol of a red elephant
And by your gay savior nonsense
–And..”Turley is just trying to stir up controversy????????????????????????????????????????”
I can cite you at least 14 published articles with HEADLINES on this story.
George, let me characterize you here. You are a gay male who, somewhere along the line, felt insulted and now need to strike back. You do it unsuccessfully, bringing more derision and ridicule upon yourself. In response, you assume a condescending “survival” personality flaw, attempting to contemptuously discredit other commenters as lacking skills in reading comprehension and context. That, in itself, is funny, because we are not talking about complex topics here, George. Am I right?
* Let’s leave it at that. I doubt there are many Republicans hitting the lgbt scene. How to stand out in a sea of gay bars? Just remove political animals. Poor animals anyway.
Meh
What ?
No gay republicans?
Dave Rubin ?
Rick Grennel ?
Douglas Murray?
I guess we have all forgotten Milo yanopolis
* spies
Turley deliberately omitted a significant factor that contributed to the backlash against the elephant logo used by Political Patties. The bar opened in the midst of a community filled with gay bars and is located on U Street in Northwest Washington D.C., an area known for its vibrant nightlife and historical significance as a black cultural center. This specific location is part of an LGBTQ community, so it’s unsurprising that the elephant logo, typically associated with Republicans who have advocated for laws that impact the LGBTQ community, was found offensive.
The owners of Political Patties, who are both Republican and Democrat, recognized the issue and made changes to address it. They decided to keep the bipartisan theme but modified the logo by replacing the donkey and elephant with a larger, blue “Political Patties” and retaining the red doors. It’s worth noting that the owners were not tolerant of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and views, indicating a likelihood that they were part of the LGBTQ community themselves.
Turley’s article misrepresented the situation, intentionally provoking his readers with misleading information while discussing the problems associated with the “age of rage” in another article. By distorting the context of the issue, Turley seeks to fuel anger and resentment among his readers, particularly against Democrats.
Turley does carry more messages about Democratic wrongdoing because he has seen – and documented – that it is the left that is so aggressive at stifling free speech, a major Turley interest and concern. A number of these comments underscore the legitimacy of his concerns.
Turley’s article may be misleading, as you suggest, but since the facts fit with numerous similar narratives, the story elides into a fairly accepted narrative: Democrats are bad and intolerant people. When Republicans begin punishing Democrats in return, the battle will have begun in earnest.
The numerous similar narratives are based on numerous similar misleading articles. Turley has a habit of telling half the story or omitting certain facts to paint the narrative as anti-conservative most of the time.
Yes
Turley missed so much context
I bet there was a sex shop down the block
That changes everything
George the stories all say the same thing
Democrats are intolerant and fragile
And surveys confirm that
Those on the left self report with double the anxiety and depression of the rest of us
Young leftist single women self report with 4 times the anxiety and depression of the norm
There is a theme to all of this
The left is fragile whinny intolerant
Dhlii, being dismissive and willfully ignorant is the best you can do?
Context matters and you are trying hard to have everyone ignore it. Because it undermines Turley’s misleading article. His goal is to rile up and upset his gullible and naive readers into thinking it’s all about Democrats being “fragile.”
To the extent the context you raised matters it makes this worse
Your argument is that turley got it wrong it is not about fragile intolerant democrats
It is about fragile intolerant gays
While I think you are wrong
It does not matter
It is about fragility and intolerance
I’m not the left
“. . . naive readers into thinking it’s all about Democrats being ‘fragile’.”
Count me among the naive.
Having “safe spaces” is pretty much the definition of “fragile.”
Yes, context matters. Just not your cherry-picked context.
Heaven forfend! That people should be subjected to a symbol that represents a different point of view.
This reveals the truth about calls for bipartisanship and unity from the left.
What they mean is subjugation.
So much mental illness among these brainwashed Democrats
Absolutely right. The left attracts them, like flies to rotten meat.
There has to be a place for the double digit IQ crowd to cluster with each other, mutually supporting their ignorant childishness.
Not sure if there is any symbol more appropriate for Democrats than the smelly, stinky azz they have chosen for themselves.
Hey, let’s never hang out.
It is clear democrats are fasicsts…as in 1930’s German and Italian styled fascists
The remedy is to TAKE away their money(75% reduction in Federal Spending) and arrest the ones committing crime(by the 10,000’s). Or the USA is finished
Conservative store owners better be careful they’re not required to paint a red elephant on their shop windows. It’s starting to feel like Europe 1930’s.
Certainly it is. Today’s powerful progressives are a reincarnation of the National Socialist Party.
‘Liberal activists’ = snowflakes under 40. They are a privileged minority and I hope capitulating to them ‘Bud Light’s’ this establishment.
Does anyone really believe that a group of people so hateful, dishonest, and prejudiced wouldn’t cheat in an election? We have created monsters, modern ‘liberalism’ is madness. It will destroy us if we let it, we are already well on our way in that regard. It is way past time to take away the keys to the car.
That is to say’ Bud Lights’, as in bankrupted. Their behavior would be hysterically absurd if it weren’t so destructive. These are not grown adult human beings.
James,
I would agree with you, but liberal activists are also above the age of 40. They have the emotional mentality of six year olds.
More like hormonally crazed adolescents, I think. Without the sexual outlet.
What a horrible place to be in.
the effort to create divisions has been successful because we allowed it.
Toxic to
For far too long, toxic tolerance disguised as civility, or fear of violence have locked the gates from the inside.
We need to stop growling at each other and become America again.
Sounds like a college campus.
All one needs to know about the hypocrisy and stupidity of Democrats is encapsulated in this story.
Poor babies – don’t want to sup with the deplorables.
Careful Leftist, you are taking us to Civil Upheaval/War, a fight you can’t win. 700 million guns in America. You are out gunned and outnumbered.
Say When
Poor victim trying to flex. Keyboard warrior, you won’t be in the mix.
You couldn’t project any harder. Off to Richmond or Annapolis with you – there must be more symbols you tribalistic morons must rage against – ooga booga!!!
PS: The left’s only hope in a civil war is CCP involvement, better hope walz and karmela lock that down, soon.
YNOT, he’s right though. The Left has become so infantile that if they ever killed the filibuster, they would very likely provoke widespread civil conflict. D.C. already fancies itself a hostile occupation of a reluctant America. This story only proves how antagonistic our supposed public servants are toward half of the Country.
If we broke up the D.C. bureaucracies and shipped them all over the country, that might cure the insanity–actually living with the people who they’re supposed to serve; not sucking all that money into one community of spoiled brats. But that might require a civil conflict to make happen.
“Whom they’re supposed to serve.” Sorry, busy morning.
“If we broke up the D.C. bureaucracies and shipped them all over the country, that might cure the insanity”
If we broke up the D.C. bureaucracies and shipped them OUT OF country, that might cure the insanity – FIFY
