“Police Officers were Injured and Killed”: Klobuchar Repeats Common False Claim About January 6th

Minnesota Democrat Sen. Amy Klobuchar this week was hit by a “community note” flagging a common false statement made about January 6th and how multiple officers were killed that day. Democratic leaders routinely refer to multiple deaths of officers when the only person to die on January 6th was Ashli Babbitt, a killing of an unarmed protester that remains controversial after a whitewashing by the Capitol Police. Klobuchar, who has been a vocal supporter of censorship to quell “disinformation” on social media, repeated the false narrative and declared that “Police officers were injured and killed.”

Klobuchar joined other Democrats in repeating the claim in her post on X:

“Four years ago, the electoral vote certification was interrupted by a violent mob. Police officers were injured and killed. Our democracy hung in the balance. I knew we had to do our duty and complete the count – and in the early hours of January 7th, we did.”

That posting quickly led to a “Community Note” by X that said, “No officers were killed.”

Immediately after the riot, Democrats started to repeat this claim, particularly concerning the later death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. The New York Times helped spread the false claim that he died as a result of being hit with a fire extinguisher.

In reality, Sicknick suffered two strokes and died of natural causes the day after the riot. As the note states, “The medical examiner found Sicknick died of natural causes which means ‘a disease alone causes death. If death is hastened by an injury, the manner of death is not considered natural.’ Four other officers committed suicide days to months later.”

While repeating this claim, Democrats also downplay the riot around the White House in the previous summer, including some like Rep. Jamie Raskin (D., Md), who has bizarrely insisted that the protests were “peaceful.”

While many today still claim that the protests were “entirely peaceful” and there was no “attack on the White House,” that claim is demonstrably false. It is only plausible if one looks at the level of violence at the start of the clearing operation as opposed to the prior 48 hours.  There was, in fact, an exceptionally high number of officers injured during the protests. In addition to a reported 150 officers injured (including at least 49 Park Police officers around the White House), protesters caused extensive property damage including the torching of a historic structure and the attempted arson of St. John’s.  The threat was so great that Trump had to be moved into the bunker because the Secret Service feared a breach of security around the White House.

Of course, January 6th was bad enough—it does not need embellishment. Many of us immediately condemned it at the time as a desecration of our traditions and values. It was a disgraceful riot that interrupted the constitutionally mandated transition of power. However, the repeated use of this false claim is a disservice to the public and a misuse of this national tragedy. This repetition is referred to by psychologists as creating the “illusion of truth.” If repeated enough times, the lie becomes the truth, and those who object are then attacked as “deniers” or “insurrectionist sympathizers.”

On “misinformation,” Klobuchar has pushed social media companies to “take this crap off.” She has sponsored legislation to support censorship, particularly when it comes to the pandemic and COVID-19. She has stressed “how lethal misinformation can be and it is our responsibility to take action.” In this case, the lethality was the misinformation.

    1. She was part of a group trying to break in the Capitol building. She travelled to DC just to help stop the peaceful transfer of power. She should have just stayed home. She would be alive today if she had.

    2. How about some TRUTH folks…

      Democrat Sen. Amy Klobuchar

No—she did not specifically say those officers were killed that day (January 6). She posted on X:

“Police officers were injured and killed.”
But she did not add “that day” or explicitly date her statement as referring to January 6 in that phrasing. The Community Note flagged it because no officers died on January 6, though one officer died on January 7 from a stroke and others died by suicide later

So the answer: No, she did not say they were killed on January 6 itself.

Sumbags who posted this LIE !!

  1. No surprise here. The corporate, boot-licking media and their Dimunist masters are liars, cheats , thieves, and murderers. It is both pathological and genetic. These Leftist criminals—-but I repeat myself— are hatched that way.

  2. >>> Anonymous says: How ironic on JT’s part<<<

And I agree, why is it media, to include even Turley's blog, continually ignores Roseanne Boyland who appears via online video available to all, to have been beaten to death by Capitol police? Why do they continue to completely ignore her death? Say her name! Google her image, google her death, and say her name!

  3. The Polystate Distributed Control of the Planet

Ever since the Clinton’s, behind and through the Obama Administration turned the F.B.I. into their own personal Gestapo with the D.O.J. as their Lawfair Enforcement Unit, D.C. Inter-Politics have become a Deep State/Wall Street/Federal Reserve rigged market place.
They ‘controlled it’ | The ‘Rigged it’. Biden’s Admin proved it (as evidence by the past 4 years). That the Human (Person) in the position of President dose not have to be ‘cognizant’, the ‘position’ is merely Theoretical. The “Administration” behind the Administration, the a.k.a. The Deep State. is the operator moving and creating the Geopolitical Economic Agenda. The ‘Bureaucracy’ to is a front as well, a permanent workforce that serves as a firewall to protect the Deep State Administration (DSA). The C.I.A. pushes the processes with Case Workers and Assets in the Field, both Domestically and Abroad (Globally, there are ‘No-Borders’).

It is not a Government run with the principles of Democracy. It is a Cabal-of-Despots with a ‘mission’ harnessing the Technology of our time, to control our beliefs in a System that is not what it appears to be. They aim to be the Terror-of-Totalism in a world of their Despotism. … They aim to control it all, too exploit it and Whomever it takes. Nations of People, including Our own. They have built and Operate a Polystate of Distributed Government (e.g.: Polystate Despotism). It’s abhorrent actions are that They consume what they worship … in the name of Democracy. They are play with your Imagination, your Psyche (That this is Democracy), in order to exploit You.

There is a lot of work to do to restore Democracy back to the People, and Laws made to protect ‘The People’s Democracy -The U.S.A.’, of that which the Cabal has destroyed.

    This must end NOW.

HRC, G Soros, ‘The List’, etc. … all the followers that signed-on need to be ‘corrected’.
Lock Em Up, Lock Em All Up … For Good. They have done the Un-Constitutional, the Unthinkable … Evil.

The Dirty Rotten Bast_ _ds have turned on all of Us.

  4. How ironic on JT’s part:

“Democratic leaders routinely refer to multiple deaths of officers when the only person to die on January 6th was Ashli Babbitt…”

What about Roseann Boyland, the pro-Trump protester who was trampled to death in the melee, and died on J6th?

To understand why her death is omitted in JT’s rebuttal of Klobuchar, you only have to understand the basic logic of political infowarfare. Facts are primarily sifted for their value in either making your side look good or making the other side look bad. It’s really that simple.

For those who resist repeating biased narratives, allegiance to truth and facts is stronger than to falling into line with the side you prefer, or you aren’t taking sides on the issue.

Jonathan made the same mental mistake Klobuchar made, only differing in the “side” taken. It would be funny if so much weren’t at stake in the dwindling quality of our shared political infospace. Without a common set of beliefs wrapped around seeking the truth, a free society is headed into the abyss.

    1. Fly out of the dead usa. The scariest part is some were actually born here. Fly out before you’re put in a pot, cooked and eaten. God hates you.

      1. God prefers plain truth to crafty, oversimplified narratives. That’s at least what I was taught growing up. I don’t recognize much of that moral clarity in your bile-drenched comment.

  5. * 6th fire started in LA. Very scary. Ellen beat feet huh?

Take a moment to say a prayer or just meditate good thoughts for the people in Los Angeles that speedy help arrive, for their safety. Even positive thoughts will help.

    Thank you

    1. * why mention anything Klobuchar says about anything? Isn’t repeating a lie even in contradiction unnecessary and a form of telling tales? She needn’t have been mentioned at all. A rehash of the riot might be enough.

      1. * The mismanagement of California should wholly with California and not spill over into the pockets of the other 49 states . If an AG can identify negligence then no help forthcoming .

If the insurance companies identified disasters waiting to happen then so too federal agencies. California elected scum after scum and no one outside of California is responsible. Outside of fire fighting help zero for rebuild, loans, funneling money etc. Ask your buddies in commie China to help or maybe neighboring nations or Ghana Madam mayor. Perhaps other blue states can tax their populations to help out commie DEI California.

  6. Ashli is not the only one killed. There was another black woman bludgeoned by police while she was down and she died! Unfortunately, I don’t know her name. Ashli was not the only one killed.

    1. No., it was a non-black woman (Roseanne Boyland) who was bludgeoned by a black policewoman while she was lying unmoving on the pavement and apparently unconscious. The ME’s report said she died of a massive overdose of the prescribed medication she had been taking every day for years. But autopsies can be political, as we saw in the case of George Floyd. Another person (Benjamin Phillips) was standing quietly in the crowd in front of the Capitol (*not* advancing on the police line) when he was hit in the head by a flashbang, fell to the ground and had a heart attack and died shortly thereafter. Did the situation really call for firing “less-than-lethal” rounds into the crowd in an apparently random manner? Not a question that ever been asked as far as I can tell. Of course all this apparent police misconduct (along with other apparent police misconduct) can be seen on widely circulated video.

  7. Amy Klobuchar isnt the only one lying. Joe Biden did too during his exit interview with USA Today

    Biden’s Boggling Exit Interview

The joke about job interviews is that every candidate’s biggest weakness is apparently working too hard and caring too much. Well, President Biden’s answer in his job exit interview is that he was too humble about all the good that his government did for the American people, or that’s pretty much what he told USA Today this week.
Asked for his biggest disappointment, Mr. Biden launched into a complaint about how “the nature of the way information is shared now, there are no editors out there to say, ‘That’s simply not true.’” Prodded back on course, he mentioned that he didn’t follow President Trump in having his name printed on pandemic stimulus checks.

Mr. Biden: “He signed his name for that check, the first check that went out to those families, all of which he opposes now. But, [inaudible] ‘Trump gave me $7,500 for my family.’ So I don’t think I’ve been very good at—”

    USA Today: “Taking credit?”

Mr. Biden: “Or not so much me, but establish that the government did this for you. It wasn’t . . . It was . . . Anyway . . .”
The President lamented as well that his spending will be appreciated only by posterity: “For example, we passed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill. Hooray, hooray. That sounds great, right? Historians will talk about (how) great the impact was, but it didn’t (have) any immediate impact on people’s lives.”

Mr. Biden still hasn’t grappled with the fact that his spending helped to fuel the inflation that reduced real wages and angered grocery shoppers. According to the USA Today transcript, the President even asserted that “the interest rate was 9% when we came into office in the beginning.” We trust Mr. Biden will be thankful that there are some “editors out there” to say that’s simply not true.

Are Big Al Bragg, Fanny Willis, Leticia James, Tanya Chutkan, Obama’s boy, Jack Smith, et al. going to charge Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin with fraud including Sunny Hostin as an accomplice—how could she possibly not have had knowledge of a crime, been involved, and obstructed justice?

  9. The point so beautifully made by Professor Turley’s article is the reason that so many Americans are no longer interested in taking the High Road when dealing with Democrats. How do we engage in dialogue with those who knowingly lie, twist reality into serpentine rhetoric that is solely intended to misinform, distort history and make a mockery of the Truth? The only viable answer is that we cannot. Therefore, the only option we have is to engage otherwise. Activism. Protest. The power of the masses to engage on a visceral level that will make the issue one less ethereal and much more impactful. The High Road doesn’t work with Democrats. Patience and a dedication to civility has been demonstrated to be a tired, ineffective and even counterproductive strategy. And, the Democrat playbook is very dangerous. When a large segment of society learns that their dedication to civic decency and decorum is being used as a weapon against them, they will turn to other, more effective means to express themselves. Perhaps massive civil disobedience and the power of the streets. Perhaps worse.

  10. A Tale of The Floyd and The Anti-Floyd

Once upon a time, there was a querulous old codger named Floyd, who, politically, was somewhat to the right of Attila, the Hun. There was also a demented entity known as, The Anti-Floyd, who was all into social justice, and DEI, and who voted for Kamala Harris.

Floyd, the good one, prepared for the possibility of icy, snowy cold weather, by buying extra firewood in advance of the coming storm, due to hit tomorrow. He already had a rack full outside, and an emergency stash of 40+ logs inside the house, where it has sat for 3 or more year. Plus, he has about 20+ logs in the great room, and a few more on the porch. Snow and ice storms tend to knock down power lines, so the fireplace would be the only source of heat. He does have a generator, and should the power be out for more than a day or so, he would have it set up and turned on.

Meanwhile, Anti-Floyd, the Democrat, lives in the same neighborhood and also has a fireplace. However, Anti-Floyd does not have but a few sticks of firewood that he bought at Kroger, enough to last for maybe three hours. Anti-Floyd refuses to buy firewood from the old White Guy and his girlfriend, who most people in the neighborhood use. No, Anti-Floyd wanted to buy firewood from a marginalized person, and he has been looking for a black female or trans-woman, preferably Lesbian, or some other non-CIS gender person. He is certain such a person exists, because he remembers the song, He’s A Lumberjack, and He’s Okay!

Guess who is going to freeze their butt off???

  11. “Democratic leaders routinely refer to multiple deaths of officers when the only person to die on January 6th was Ashli Babbitt……Klobuchar joined other Democrats in repeating the claim in her post on X”

I don’t trust Amy Klobuchar. I Do trust Jonathan Turley. Indeed, the Only democrat I do trust.

      1. Goofy Gavin Newscum should have put that pipeline from Great Bear Lake in a long time ago. Why the —- didn’t he?
