For Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the weaponization of the criminal justice system has always followed a certain Casablanca pattern. Like Claude Rains as the venerable Captain Louis Renault, it is simply a matter of “rounding up the usual suspects.” Grassley released FBI whistleblower records on Thursday showing that an anti-Trump figure, former FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault, previously found to have violated the Hatch Act was a key factor in pushing the election charges brought by former Special Counsel Jack Smith.Grassley suggested that Thibault violated protocol in opening and advancing the FBI’s initial probe into the 2020 election without sufficient predication. The investigation, called Operation Arctic Frost, was opened on April 13, 2022.
Years later, “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, [Thibault] walked” into Grassley’s.
Whistleblowers alleged that Thibault’s alleged “partisanship” likely impacted investigations involving President Trump and Hunter Biden. Thibault was previously named as the agent who effectively scuttled the investigation into Hunter Biden and his laptop.
Fox News reported that a February 14, 2022 email revealed Thibault communicating with a subordinate agent on the foundations for an investigation of Trump. In another email ten days later to John Crabb, a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, Thibault states “I had a discussion with the case team and we believe there to be predication to include former President of the United States Donald J. Trump as a predicated subject.”
The emails, and others detailed in the report, show Thibault pushing the investigation — in sharp contrast to his role in the Biden investigations.
Grassley and others are citing the evidence as supporting the need to “clean house” at the FBI and root out those who actively participated in the politicization of the criminal justice process.
For those of us familiar with Thibault from the Hunter Biden investigation, his role in the origins of the Smith investigation is deeply concerning. Whistleblowers previously accused Thibault of “circumventing normal process and procedure to open full field investigations.” He was later found by the Inspector General to be violating the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from engaging in certain political activities.
The violations included Thibault retweeting social media posts by the Lincoln Project, a vehemently anti-Trump group.
The article CLEARLY makes the case for PERSONNEL ARE POLICY even when partisan and wrong! This FupBI Agent flew under the radar and incognito for years with this scumy technique and likely countless people paid with their freedom because of it. Yes, eventually he was ousted by the controls in place (OIG, etc.) but TRUMP is now within his rights to “remake” the organization to ensure the Dem infestation is treated and removed!
Finally a temporary and then permanent solution.
Sorry, Turley, I know that Fox pays you to pretend that Trump really isn’t a criminal, that, somehow, our lying eyes didn’t see the loser trash he stirred up smash doors and windows, beat up cops and damage property while hunting for Pence with a noose intending to lynch him–all because Trump lost and that huge, fat ego of his couldn’t handle it. So when he couldn’t bully Secretaries of State or Mike Pence to violate the law and give him an election that he knows he lost, he stirred up the losers who worship him to attack Congress. For there to be “weaponization” of the legal system, none of this could be true–but it all IS true; also, none of this could be violations of the law–but this conduct was illegal. Those losers plotted how to gain access to the Capitol to stop the certification of Biden’s victory at the urging of Trump, who lied to them about nonexistent fraud. This is one of the biggest scandals in American history. What Trump did should have landed him in prison. And, the J6 Committee was right to investigate it. Republicans in Congress were wrong to refuse to hold the fat one accountable. And, whatever swill you’ve come up with that tries to make the case that, somehow, there was some left-wing conspiracy to do something wrong–is pure BS. We all saw what they did–assault cops, break through police lines, smash doors and windows, and try to get to the Floor of the House to stop the certification by force. They intended to kill Mike Pence. You are just trying to keep pushing the MAGA media theme that Trump was a victim of a “weaponized” political prosecution–you do know better.
And, Turley, PLEASE do not try to equate the slop you are paid to write with themes from classic film–PLEASE STOP–you are not cool.
Show us on the doll with the big bad orange man touched you! Your TDS is off the charts.
NUTCHACHACHA, you’re just amazing.
You are so very effective on the Turley Blog.
You have likely “fundamentally transformed” all of the commenters here into communist (liberal, progressive, socialist, democrat, RINO, AINO) voters.
(What a ——- idiot!)
^^^^ goo goo repeats Lawrence O’Donnell just in case anyone missed it.
Are you an attorney? If not, you are ignorant and partisan. If you are an attorney, you should take down your “shingle” because you are displaying your utter ignorance.
DEI is one of the usual suspects. This, from about a year ago:
HUGE QUESTION is what was posted on the social accounts (of the female military pilot that collided with the AA passenger plane) that warranted ALL social accounts to be scrubbed before releasing the pilot’s name. . . . Should the mental state be questioned ?
Cpt. Rebecca M. Lobach, of Durham, N.C., served as an Army aviation officer since July 2019.
There has been no specific explanation from the Army for the one-day delay in releasing her name.
Where the —- is Hegseth?
Don’t you suppose the Army would wait until the family has been notified? That might take a day or two perhaps.

It is not just that Rebecca Lobach is gone from social media, both her sisters and parents were scrubbed as well. This sister had a LinkedIn and an X which you can see clearly on Google, but the pages are gone. Another sister has a Pinterest account that’s been scrubbed as well. Someone should find them and interview them

The female Black Hawk helicopter pilot, Captain Rebecca Lobach, was not named until today. Was it so they could scrub her social media? Her Facebook page has been wiped. However, her Google+ image is below. If it turns out Lobach was a lesbian DEI pilot, I won’t be surprised.

They look like sisters to me: same chins and noses.
It only takes “a day or two” in cases where the facts and truth are being remodeled. You do know there was a crew of three and the names of the other two have been public for some time, right? Comments?
Traveler…
It was reported that her name would not be released because the family requested it. I don’t want to speculate, but it seems odd. I don’t know when they identified her body and notified the family.
