As the courts hash out the legalities of the orders supporting the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the public appears to support the effort despite the almost universal condemnations in the media. Despite the prediction from James Carville that the Trump Administration will collapse within 30 days, a recent Harvard CAPS/Harris poll shows that most citizens support the cutting of government spending and size. While the courts must rule on the legal basis for these executive orders, the polling shows continued support for both Trump and his agenda after the election.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D., Minn.) also has declared that “remorse” was growing among voters who were souring against the Trump Administration.
Yet, the Harvard poll shows Trump with a 50% approval rating, (43% expressing disapproval). That is consistent with the RealClearPolitics polling average, giving Trump a 49.3% approval rating.
What was interesting amid the ongoing judicial and legislative fight is that 83% of voters preferred cutting government spending to raising taxes.
Some 77% also supported a broad review of government spending. A massive 70% believe government spending is rife with waste and fraud and 69% support cutting spending by $1 trillion.
Sixty percent of voters said that DOGE is carrying out the need of the government to make significant cuts.
Once again, our courts are designed to resist popular demands when they contravene legal or constitutional authorities. However, courts are also sensitive to what is called the “countermajoritarian difficulty.” As Alexander Bickel discussed in his 1962 book, The Least Dangerous Branch, the courts straddle this line between protecting constitutional values and not becoming a type of super-legislature. The political question doctrine and other judicial rules are designed to remove federal judges from making policy or political judgments.
Voters are allowed to bring about significant, even radical, changes in government policies and programs. They are allowed to elect “change agents” to use existing powers to achieve those goals.

No, the Democrat Party does not approve of DOGE and they are the only entity that matters. Government waste, fraud, corruption, abuse, and mismanagement must be preserved to preserve our democracy.
To stop DOGE we must elect Sam Brinton and Ray Epps in 2028. Only THEY can save America from itself! In your heart, you know I’m right. Even Dennis SmackIntire agrees!
When Klobuchar announced her candidacy for the presidential election many years ago, and did so outdoors in the frigid winter of her home state, that was the first time I had some respect for her. It also turned out to be the last time I did. Fast forward to more recent times, she’s got the derangement syndrome in spades, not as bad as Adam Schiff or Eric Swallwell, but surprisingly bad nonetheless.
“. . . DOGE is carrying out the need of the government to make significant cuts.” (JT)
According to the Left:
On Monday: DOGE is using a chainsaw to cut government spending. Soon, parents will be forced to sell their children.
On Tuesday: DOGE is not doing anything significant to cut government spending. It’s all smoke and mirrors.
Leftists: Pick a lane. Some of us can smell your contradictions from a mile away.
Speaking of chainsaws, Elon Musk is the gift that keeps on giving to the Democrats, who are benefiting politically from this evil clown’s actions.
The nation will need to pull together for government reconstruction post 2028.
Try reading. The public LIKES what DOGE is doing, by a wide margin. Enjoy.
The DNC maintains there are no contradictions. The DNC maintains that DOGE’s government spending cuts are insignificant but the ones that are sufficient are forcing people to sell, rent, or lease their children. The DNC adds that this isn’t transparent because DOGE is using smoke and mirrors to conceal that they are forcing people to sell, rent, or lease their children.policies. All clear now?
What’s insane is when people who celebrate freedom each 4th of July make fun of freedom fighters.
Could George Washington have shortened the American Revolution and reduced the amount of death and destruction by surrendering to Cornwallis as soon as he possibly could have, years before the siege of Yorktown?
WTF? What a stupid comment.
The real stupidity is in attacking good points that ruffle feathers and upset apple carts.
Well, it looks like Trump and Zelenksy have finally hammered out a deal for Ukraine’s minerals. This reminds me of that time when Charles de Gaulle flew to Washington DC to meet Roosevelt so that he could sign an agreement that gave the United States half of the grapes from the vineyards of France in exchange for the liberation of Normandy.
More stupid…
g
How certifiably insane is the Democratic Party? The Democrat governor of Wisconsin thinks the word “mother” should be replaced with the very gross term “inseminated person.”
It’s hard to tell which is grosser: that or the Democrat governor of Michigan’s effort to change “woman” to “menstruating person.”
Is this the kind of thing elected officials should be spending time and public funds to do? Perhaps it is in the view of the Democratic voters who elected these clowns. As I say, the entire Democratic Party is now mentally ill.
More stupid…
the entire Democratic Party is now mentally ill.
True. They are anti-science, anti-family, anti-children, anti-woman and pro-death abortion / euthanasia.
Maine will likely cease to have much of a population in a few generations given the Democrats anti-evolutionary principles
Rep. Laurel Libby
@laurel_libby
The Maine Democrat Majority has just moved to censure me, for speaking out against their failure to protect Maine girls and keep biological males out of girls’ sports.
Let me be clear: I will not be silenced and I will not allow the voices of Maine girls to be silenced.
https://x.com/laurel_libby/status/1894554966221521388
NB: Maine State Representative Laurel Libby is married and has 4 children, something anathema to Democrats. No wonder they censured her
https://www.laurellibby.com/
The term itself does not bother me quite as much as the debatable accuracy. I’m certain there will be some pushback here on this , but the M-W definition of “mother” strongly implies the term relates to a child who has been born. My understanding comports with that definition, a pregnant woman has traditionally been known as a “prospective mother”. The concept “mother”, then, is not identical to “inseminated person”, even if one would accept that ridiculous formulation (which I would not).
OldManFromKS,
I know a guy who leans toward the socialist side. When they started using the term “chest feeding,” he was over it and them.
Everyone has that line that they won’t cross. Unfortunately, TPTB for the D seem to be trying to set a land speed record for amount of lines crossed.
How has the Democratic Party become certifiably mentally ill. A member of the Maine House of Representatives pointed out that a biological male beat actual women in a track meet. This led to the entire Democratic caucus in the Maine House voting to censure her. Now she is not allowed to speak on the House floor until she apologizes. This is totalitarian stuff, forcing someone to apologize for telling the truth, like the struggle sessions under Mao.
PS, the dishonest pretext for the censure was that she published a minor’s name and picture on social media, but that person (the biological male) had had his name and picture all over the news media and the name and picture were even published by his school.
More stupid…
OldManFromKS,
Oh, they are mentally ill alright. But we just have to sit back and let them dig the hole they are digging for themselves. It only continues to prove to everyone, leftist Democrats are mentally ill. All the sane and normal, traditional Democrats want them off their side and out of their party. The more the mentally ill ones double down on the stupid and crazy, the more they will lose their base and votes.
On Tuesday, Trump — with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy at his side — told reporters in the Oval Office that he was planning the roll-out of a new “Trump Gold Card” for immigrants willing to pay for citizenship.
Well I sure hope trump gets to keep the $5 million from each person that can pay. How else is he going to keep his kingdom gold plated.
It’s not new. Mayorkas had it. It’s a gold visa. Instead of a green card It’s a gold card. Fyi. There’s about 10 different types of visas.

Gigi responds to Elon Musk’s DOGE email to name 5 things she did last week:
1. Last week, I attacked stupid, disingenuous, and hypocritical Turley (“Turls”) and told him, “shame on you.”
2. Last week, I opened my foul mouth in attacks on fellow commenters.
3. Last week, I pretended to know what I was talking about.
4. Last week, I handed out lies, disinformation, and conflicting statements like Space candy.
5. Last week, I displayed utter low-intelligence by quoting (without full quotation marks), paraphrasing, or plagiarizing
material from such stellar and reliable truth-bearers as HuffPost, Salon, and Vanity Fair.
A lot more stupid…
Refute the stupid with verifiable facts
DOGE needs to lose the cartoon logo. It SCREAMS of pre-pubescence.
Elon Musk is the worst theater in the history of cyber-civilization.
The MAGAT camp will be gone relatively soon. I take heart in that.
ANON voted for BIDEN and KAMALA!! He thought they were great! HA HA HA HA HA
Anon: You don’t know who I voted for.
Just goes to show that stupid kiddies jump to stupid conclusions.
Dear magats,
Inflation up. Consumer confidence suffers its biggest one month drop in years.
Probably should keep you from posting your trump/epstein rape dance memes, but you have no self respect or dignity, so there’s that.
Either way, Turls will be here to deflect and deny for you tomorrow. Party on!!
Bidenflation continues to rage across America. Avian bird flu continues to decimate flocks of poultry, having nothing to do with Trump, as viruses tend to do no matter who is in the WH. Consumer confidence suffers a drop due to Bidenomics that we will be feeling, along with Bidenflation, for years to come. Likely we will suffer a recession due to the failed economic policies of Bidenomics and Bidenflation. However, as many economists have noted after verifying the economic damage of failed Biden economic policies, the economy will be much stronger on the other side of the Biden induced recession. We all know this. I have stated this many a times here on the good professor’s blog this may come to pass. I have no doubt when it does, you will ignore my warnings and just parrot whatever DNC/MSM narrative that it is Trump’s fault, while the evidence will show it was Bidens. Myself and other economists will be able to prove you wrong. Not that you would ever admit it.
How marvelous!
There is one possibility to consider. Trump’s tariffs actually work and American companies re-shore back to America, as Apple has shown a interest in with a $500 billion investment, some 20k jobs and other companies have done the same as well as other countries. Those investments and DOGE efforts to cut fraud, waste and abuse just may avoid a recession. Only time will tell.
Additional note, TX stands to gain the most from SMR for energy production. TX along with the biggest energy exporter of states, being PA and interest in investing in SMR technology would make TX and the PA region a energy powerhouse to provide energy for AI and data farms. Meanwhile the biggest loser would be the state of CA, whom imports the majority of energy from outside states. And, their mandates of that energy being “green,” only drives up energy prices.
“Starting on day one, we will end inflation and make America affordable again, to bring down the prices of all goods. You just watch. They’ll come down, and they’ll come down fast. It’ll be easy.” — Donald Trump, North Carolina campaign stop in August.
Inflation up. Consumer confidence down. Trump had to pull his tariff threat a few weeks back when the market began to dive. He said yesterday he’s going through with his Mexico and Canada ones…market will dive again. I’m short the aud/usd.
MARKET DOWN?? Within 5% of HIGHS!
Dear leftist , you lest , get over it. It’s going to take some time to unwrap and repair all the damage briben and your ilk have done.
#74. OMG. The government info is in COBAL. You’d have to be 70 years old to even know what that is. Musk is UPGRADING a national security issue.

Poor Anon.
Its COBOL and the data is not stored in COBOL that’s the language used to access the data.
The data is stored either in a DB2 database or in a flat file format.
And no, you don’t need to be 70 yrs old to know what it is.
And yes, I am an expert when it comes to pretty much all things data.
Migrating the data off the mainframe isn’t always straight forward.
Taking a copy of it… much simpler.

Gumby,
It has been awhile since I was in IT, over ten years. Looking at some of DOGE “Latest Work,” they list an example of where paid for licenses exceed the number of employees in a given government agency, e.g. GSA, 13k employees, 37k WinZip licenses. Each employee should be issued only one box. There could be instances where there are “thin” clients but a enterprise license should cover those instances. Or, perhaps a VM ware instances. And, why the heck are they still using something like WinZip? There are other compression tools that are native to OS like Unix, Linux, Debian that are just as secure and are free. Musk for his Tesla vehicles uses Debian based Ubuntu. Correct me if I am wrong but Musk could gain substantial savings by using Open Source, GPL software. Or is this an instance where the proprietary SW lobby is a bit tooooo strong? I imagine Microsoft would stand to loose big. There is a reason why the Chinese uses Unix and the NSA has their own flavor of Linux. They pass IA whereas Microsoft was lagging the last time I was in. Any insight?
good
Working from home offers flexibility, allowing individuals to create a personalized, comfortable work environment. It eliminates commuting time, which can improve work-life balance. However, it also requires self-discipline to stay focused and manage distractions effectively. With the right tools and mindset, remote work can be highly productive and rewarding.
#74. So it’s tight and why is anyone even looking into it? Perfect as is.
#74 it hasn’t been maintained? Perhaps the budget is completely fictitious? It’s junk?
“13k employees, 37k WinZip licenses”
You really didn’t expect a government agency to conform to consensus good procurement practices, did you? This does conform to what I would expect: poor standards; indifferently enforced; with probable kickbacks of one kind or another at every opportunity. Besides, philosophically, what would be a better fit for Big Government, open source or proprietary software? The latter smacks of the same elitist attitude as BG itself to me. Re proprietary operating systems vs *nix (et al); when PCs began taking over from larger architectures in the 1980s, IBM made a strong effort to convince its clients (most particularly including Fedgov) to stay with proprietary SW. For the most part, that meant MS-DOS, then Windows OS, when those clients were leaving MVS, SSP, and OS/400 behind. IBM failed to conceive that they wouldn’t maintain a monopoly grip on the microcomputer hardware market as they had done on mainframes and midranges. Competitive pressures changed the IT environments at for-profit businesses over time, but the government has no competition, therefore no proper incentive for changes. Specifically regarding compression software, the ZIP archive standard has been 100% open forever, and excellent free tools to utilize it abound. I use 7-zip (which can do fairly decent ZIP encryption) on my Windows machines, and the Linux Mint laptop I’m using to type this has an internal Archive Manager that handles ZIP format, as well as tarballs and other more native *nix stuff. I must tell you, that was some impressive analysis considering your handle. I can’t see how you learned all that on the farm 🙂
Number 6,
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away . . . I was in IT. That job dang near killed me. I would of been that guy, over weight, in his mid-thirties and have a heart attack. I had to get out. I still dabble, and occasionally sys admin for WP. I have been running some flavor of Linux for over a decade. I would be lost on a Winders box now.
“I would be lost on a Winders box now.”
I retired in 2015, having worked my way up over the course of 38 years in various roles for equally various employers to Information Security Manager and Enterprise IT Advisor for a large international mining company. The actual translation of that title was “advisor whose very nice recommendations will be taken under advisement because acting on them would involve spending money”. I had nearly reached full pension time when yet another corporate merge resulted in an attractive buy-out offer, which I eagerly snapped up. Re Windows, I have managed to stick with Windows 7 on my home boxes. Since that is becoming more and more difficult all the time, I installed Linux Mint on this laptop, and will probably stick with that in the future.
@Upstate…
License count is a bit fungible.
You can pay for a bulk set of licenses and not use them. Aka shelfware.
You can buy a license for a machine… refresh the machine and get a new license while still paying for the old one.
Or you buy a seat license for an employee… they leave but you’re still paying for it.
The problem is that no one is really keeping a good eye on the license count.
As to the Unix vs Linux. I don’t know of anyone still using Unix although they can still be out there.
China has their own flavor of Linux, most of the US corporate market is RedHat (Now IBM)
But there’s Centos, Rocky, SuSE, and other flavors.
Not sure what the NSA are using although it definitely the secure version of Linux.
To your question… even w Open Source products, you still need to buy a supported licensed version.
The issue is that Musk will see the mainframe as old tech and want to move off it.
That isn’t always the easiest thing to do and the cost of migrating will most likely exceed the cost of maintaining the system so to move it… not worth it.
There’s more but a longer conversation.
-G
Gumby,
Thank you for your insight.
With so much moving to the “cloud” seems thin clients would be the way to go. Use a secure method, like a CAC, to access, then pull down what you need. I am probably over thinking this.
#74. The Treasury uses TWAI and Oracle and the federal reserve also. The treasury uses New Yorks federal reserve bank.
Musk must be finding some problems…
Let’s see…
#74 list colleges that teach cobal. You have 3 seconds.
Poor Anon.
Its still being taught and used.
# 74 so it’s perfect as is. Why is anyone disturbing it at all?
#74. Is it not difficult to audit transactions if not maintained?
“Its COBOL and the data is not stored in COBOL that’s the language used to access the data.
The data is stored either in a DB2 database or in a flat file format. ”
Yes. “COmon Business Oriented Language”. Thank you. I’ve corrected the ignoramus about that more than once, and I’m tired of the futile effort. I’m also skeptical that the front end access to any of this is currently coded in COBOL. It probably is in some web-based, interpretive scripting language, with the COBOL programs becoming de facto middleware.
#74. Then what’s the beef?
@ Num 6,
Front end?
If the data is in DB2, its a simple query.
If its a flat file, you have EBCDIC w packed and zoned decimal types.
You’ll need to know the record layout.
There are a couple of tools, but really, they are getting an extract of the data so they can push it out to another system and play with it at their leisure.
-G
#74 put it in layman’s words. Why is Musk making a beef out of it and saying money isn’t traceable? Make it simple. Thanks
“Front end?”
If an employee needs to use the data, is he or she not more likely to access it from a microcomputer of some kind (or even a phone) then from a dumb terminal? I know that there are dumb terminal emulation programs that can run on different architectures (I’ve used and modified a number of these), but at the time I retired, things seemed to be moving i the direction of using a native program on the access device to fetch the data. In many cases, that data was often being extracted from the master database and put into a database in a format more easily accessed by that front-end program than the legacy file structure by a back-end program running on the server. Maybe this process has largely been simplified (that would be a good thing) over time.
#74. He’s looking at the agencies account administrators for inactive or suspended accounts by sending emails. They’re still being funded.
Is that it…interesting.
Boom! Zelensky agrees to minerals deal with US. Winning!
https://archive.is/T6Bsr
PS, I have no doubt the nattering nabobs will carp and criticize anyway, given their stage-4 TDS. They know they’re losing.
@Oldman
I’m not surprised. That whole thing was a Biden grift, and the fact that they were willing to engage in it with the possibility of war with Russia – insanity. There has been so much bending over and behind-covering literally since *one month* Biden left office, it likely has set records. There is NOTHING the current administration has done the Biden admin couldn’t have done, anytime they wanted, and if they had, the sycophants would be calling it a victory. We are done with you, modern left, and your minions.
James,
Well said. I recall reading an article a while back where the Russian diplomats were seeking to speak to anyone in the Biden admin and no one in the Biden admin would pick up the phone. All this death and destruction was for nothing. I am hopeful Trump can seal the deal, I will wait and see until the ink is dry.
OldManFromKS,
Here is the part people do not seem to realize, prior to the war the Ukraine held no national interest to America. Well, aside from Biden’s proxy war, which enriched the MIC while getting Ukrainians and Russians killed or maimed. Now, with this deal, America has a national interest in the Ukraine. We will be looking to protect that interest. Russia will know that and be much, much less inclined for further aggression in the future. And, we get access to the minerals rather than having to be dependent on China. It is actually a brilliant move on Trump’s part.
Exactly, it’s a genius way of ensuring their security without them joining NATO.
OldManFromKS,
Exactly!! That is something our leftist friends cannot comprehend. Along with reality.
“Russia will know that and be much, much less inclined for further aggression in the future. ”
All Russia probably ever wanted (short and mid term, anyway) was border security and some protection for the Russian-speaking peoples of eastern Ukraine. It is nearly certain it will attain that, at minimum, no matter what the peace terms are.
#74. The EU just offered a deal.
@Old Man…
This was pretty much a done deal once Zelensky was asking for nukes or joining NATO.
He was demanding the mile knowing that he’s going to get 100yrds.
Trump called his bluff.
Had it been Biden or one of his handlers?
They would have caved and promised him more.
The truth is that partnering w the US is a sweet deal.
Now he saves face and looks like a winner.
-G
# 74. While you’re at it, how and why is the executive so huge at 3 million full-time employees and another million for military? How can one executive work with 4 million employees effectively in a mere 4 years?
Judicial branch and legislative branche are dwarfed in comparison. It really makes no sense anymore. No wonder it’s moving to States’ government.
The future appears to be tech. Too bad…
Yup. Pure propaganda from the MSM and modern left, but what do we expect at this point? They are part of a globalist regime, and that is simply a fact. The notion of ‘sovereign’ does not exist in their vocabulary or tiny brains, and it’s only gonna get worse (if that is even possible), so steel yourselves regarding doing the right thing.
“Now, some Republican members are calling for the impeachment of judges who ruled against Trump’s earlier executive orders and programs.”
“In my view, this is not an appropriate use of impeachment and could seriously undermine our constitutional system.”

Impeachment or Surrender!
The singular American failure is the judicial branch, with emphasis on the Supreme Court. The communist American welfare state must have been struck down at every step of its incremental implementation. Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto 59 years after the adoption of the Constitution because none of the principles of the Communist Manifesto were in the Constitution. Had the principles of the Communist Manifesto been in the Constitution, Karl Marx would have had no reason to write the Communist Manifesto. The principles of the Communist Manifesto were not in the Constitution then, and the principles of the Communist Manifesto are not in the Constitution now.
The entire communist American welfare state is unconstitutional including, but not limited to, admissions affirmative action, grade-inflation affirmative action, employment affirmative action, quotas, welfare, food stamps, minimum wage, rent control, social services, forced busing, public housing, utility subsidies, CRT, DEI, WIC, SNAP, TANF, HAMP, HARP, TARP, NPR, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Environmental Protection Agency, Agriculture, Education, Labor, Energy, Obamacare, Social Security, Social Security Disability, Social Security Supplemental Income, Medicare, Medicaid, “Fair Housing” laws, “Non-Discrimination” laws, etc.
Article 1, Section 8, provides Congress the power to tax for and fund ONLY debt, defense, and “general Welfare” – ALL or THE WHOLE WELL PROCEED through governmental provision of security and basic infrastructure – omitting and, thereby, excluding any power to tax for individual Welfare, specific Welfare, particular Welfare, favor or charity. The same Article enumerates and provides Congress the power to regulate ONLY the Value of money, Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian Tribes, and land and naval Forces. Private industries may self-regulate or subject themselves to deleterious litigation.
Further, the 5th Amendment right to private property was initially qualified by the Framers and is, therefore, absolute, allowing no further qualification, and allowing ONLY the owner the power to “claim and exercise” dominion over private property.
American government exists, under the Constitution and Bill of Rights, to provide maximal freedom to individuals while government itself is severely limited and restricted to facilitating the maximal freedom of individuals through the provision of security and infrastructure only.
The Necessary and Proper Clause is nothing more than a perfunctory redundancy for the purposes of clarification—a reinforcement of that which was previously codified—and may not be wielded to amend and impose separate acts that do not represent but alter the letter and spirit of the document of the Founders and Framers.

What we have in Elon Musk makes Democrats appear as they truly are: unintelligent morons. no wonder they attack Musk
And that perfectly describes Karl Marx:
A jealous, covetous, thieving, pathologic, and alcoholic “community organizer” who amassed similar meritless losers with an overwhelming and invalid avarice and appetite for the success and wealth of others.
Well Goooooolllly! Would ya look at that—good ol’ Elon Musk, he sure is a real whiz-bang genius, ain’t he? Why, that fella done gone and fathered himself 13 young’uns with four different women! Mercy sakes alive! Now, let’s see here… first, there was little Nevada Alexander Musk, bless his heart. Then ya got Vivian Jenna Wilson and her twin—’course, Vivian up and had herself a sex change back in 2022. Then wouldn’t ya know it, a whole mess o’ triplets came along in 2006! But that ain’t all! With that singer lady, Grimes, he had hisself a young’un named X Æ A-Xii in 2020 (now ain’t that a name? Pure Elon penius, ah mean genius), then Exa Dark Sideræl, and another one born in 2023. Then with Miss Shivon Zilis, he went and had himself a pair o’ twins in 2021, and another little one popped up in 2024! And I tell ya what, just when ya think ol’ Elon’s done, turns out he had himself another baby this year with a gal named Ashley Saint Clair. I tell ya, around these parts, we just call him Busy Dick—‘cause land sakes, that fella sure keeps himself occupied! Shazam!
#74. He has a harem. Perhaps he’s islamic? Perhaps atheist.
Anonymous 4:35 pm. Your point. He’s a busy man. All those kids and 4 women. There are simple means to prevent pregnancy either way so I assume the ladies desired to have his children. If he has the means to care for them all, I see no problem. Worse has happened in Hollywood, that den of progressivism. As long as he has time to launch the rockets, go to Mars, build his cars and develops another AI, I’m fine with it. Especially if in his spare times he cuts governmental expenses and exposes graft, I say let him run free. We are lucky he cares and is with us.
Thomas Jefferson did much the same but on a smaller scale with free women and slaves and the Democrats still worship him.
