Your Latte and Lesson is Ready: Starbucks Employees Pause Service to Protest Immigration Policies

We previously discussed how companies were barring political protests or paraphernalia at the workplace and how such rules are entirely enforceable. That made a recent story interesting when Starbucks workers across the country stopped working for a silent protest over the deportation of unlawful immigrants. Starbucks does not appear to be moving to stop such protests in the workplace, which is its prerogative. Customers, however, may find the extra shot of politics with their Mocha Java to be a bit much in the morning.

The protest itself was rather anemic, with a work stoppage lasting just a few minutes as workers stood in silent solidarity with those being deported.

It would ordinarily not be something that a commercial chain would relish. Prior polling shows that 83 percent of Americans support deportations of immigrants with violent criminal records and almost half support mass deportation of all undocumented persons. Even less pronounced polls reveal a majority supporting deportations generally with a third supporting deportations of all unlawful immigrants.

Postings show Starbucks workers leaving shops or reading statements denouncing the Trump Administration’s deportation policies.

With an increasingly competitive coffee market and Starbucks struggling to slow a drop in revenue, it would not appear an opportune time to tie the brand to a controversial political issue. Think BudLight with a shot of espresso.

The management either does not want to confront employees on the issue or supports the public opposition to the immigration policies. The question is how stockholders and the board view the protests as a corporate policy. As discussed earlier, shareholders and board members of these corporations have been raising the cost of such entanglement with political and social controversies. A boycott movement has already arisen after the protests.

The danger is that a company like Starbucks can become the BlueSky of coffee shops, serving a fraction of the population with high-priced beverages to enjoy in a political echo-chamber.

    1. Right, did they have a moment of silence for Laken Riley or the 274 people who will die today due to a fentanyl overdose. How about a moment of silence for the baby who didn’t get fed today because her momma was stoned. I wouldn’t bet on it. I’ve seen it first hand.

  1. Their coffee stinks anyway. It’s beyond me how Starbucks survives with all the good coffee options out there. No accounting for bad taste.

    1. They are an addictive cult, much like anyone else with a fast food addiction – We all know that fast food is junk yet many drive through that window for unsavory, unsanitary, nutrition-less food because they have been conditioned to it. People don’t shop Starbucks for quality, they want that badge of group identity that the cup displays.

  2. Wow. Stop working for a few minutes in silence or read some woke nonsense. That will show them. What a way to stick it to the man. I am sure that impressed . . . no one. I will make it a point to never go to a Starbucks again.

    1. Doesn’t it have that Cory Booker filibuster flavor to it? Vapid, pointless yet appealing to a cult.

    1. And coffee made by people who can’t afford it. I guess politics is as good as any reason to goof off.

    2. “They applaud keying cars.”

BS, They do not applaud keying cars. They detest it. A few individuals have done this, not hundreds in a mass event.

Prior to Musk going MAGA it was those on the right that keyed Teslas as Teslas were mostly owned by left leaning people, you know, tree huggers wanting to save the world with their electric car.

Don’t throw out BS , Were you las incensed when left leaning people vandalized Teslas a few years ago?

      1. BabyTrump, there is ample video of leftist keying Teslas. If you can provide video of Trump supporters keying a Tesla I will consider your post to be accurate. You offer no such proof of your statement so I have no other recourse than to say it’s just plain stupid. I notice a pattern.

        1. TiT,
There is a difference between woke leftists and MAGA. MAGA respects people’s private property. Woke leftists dont. We have seen lots of videos of woke leftists keying Teslas, setting fires to Teslas, vandalizing charging stations, Tesla vehicles, and even one of a guy forcing a woman to pull over and hit her with a closed fist. Sure, we mostly associate a Tesla owner with a Democrat but that is not always the case. Us sane and normal people know that.

          1. Baby Trump won’t respond until his dominator sends him more propaganda of useless value. If thus little noggin of his could hold 2 thoughts together in a logical manner he would be a MAGA supporter. Because he can’t, all he can do is obfuscate with the meager propaganda he has.

          1. Do these rules realize that their chief funds provider, sorts, was a nazi collaborator? Of course not, they weren’t ever provided facts, just propaganda.

        2. What a short memory you have. Look it up yourself. There was plenty of damage done to Teslas in years past because they represented the tree hugger wing and lots of people on the left damaged Teslas just like is happening in reverse now.

But your short memory does not surprise me. You have an inability to analyze things for yourself. It is quite easy to search for right leaning people doing bad things to lefties or tree huggers. Heck, there are tons of disparaging comments on this site every day in that regard.

Take trumps tariff proposals as an example. There was no truth in his poster of lies with the tariffs charged and what we charge, None. And it was easy to look up what tariff a country charged us. But trump lied and those on the right ate it up. No thinking involved, if trump says it, it must be true.

Think critically, read articles from all sides, Don’t watch TV for news, read.

            1. Upstate, one reads BabyTrump only for amusement. He is a joke and doesn’t qualify to be a moron. Conservatives mostly complained about Tesla’s range and lack of charging stations. BabyTrump is in a delusional state of mind, so treat him like the ignoramus he is.

          1. Your brethren has willfully and destructively burned and demolished downtown areas of their own cities. They readily torch police cars and first-responder units, assault business owners, intentionally destroy private property. They deface artwork, sculptures, roads and highways, parks and universities. Try revisiting the “Summer Of Love” destruction across America. Pull your head out.

      2. This just in… BabyTrump does not deny Starbucks baristas spit in coffee. ACLU wants BabyTrump canceled. Developing…

        1. I see you learned to make up stuff just like your orange god. Wasn’t it JD Vance that said they make up stuff to tell a story? Yep, he said that, look it up. So you make up stuff to make yourself feel good. Sad, Sad indeed.

        2. Apparently, Diogenes missed the memo from back in 2010, “Do Not Feed the Trolls” you only encourage them, to continue their bad behavior. If they get no feedback, they get bored and go elsewhere looking to anoy folks.

          1. But are we not providing a service of sorts by keeping their poisonous bilge from spreading elsewhere?

      3. There are more than a few individuals. There are angry protests organized and violent actions encouraged on Facebook and others. The left calls for hostile actions against Tesla and owners. I have one. I know. Even though half of the Teslas are owned by liberals, that doesnt stop the bloodlust. It’s not really about the target with the leftists, it’s about violent revolution. They will use whatever emotional ‘vehicle’ they can invent. And, it’s the best, most fun to drive and technologically cool car ever.

        1. Use violence to get their way. Oh you mean like the J6 people that cause mayhem in the capitol building? how many were there? Well over a thousand? Weapons in hand, including guns, assaulting Capitol Police. Yep, MAGA is just a bunch of peaceful people.

      4. @BabyRump: BS. They don’t applaud keying cars? Maybe you’re right. That’s far too retro for today’s mindless progressive. They save their applause for blowing up Teslas and torching the dealerships.

      5. It’s not the act itself, it’s the sanctimonious smugness of these indoctrinated tools that is appalling. They remind me of the thugs employed by that self-satisfied Torquemada who thought damaging someone who didn’t believe the his screed, or better yet, those tools of Islam who flew plans into towers glorifying their own death as the sign of their fealty to a cult.

    3. which is why I would never shop there, every time drive past a chain restaurant I just imagine the quality of those working the back area and I just keep driving. I will patronize a local, privately owned business before ever giving my money to a chain business.

  3. It’s interesting that JT brings this up with employees of Starbucks and mentions how the board and CEO might feel as far as this employee action impacting business. Has JT sounded a similar alarm with how Elon Musk has walked away from his CEO duties at Tesla and the stock has crashed? Where is the board of Tesla wondering how the actions of its CEO is impacting the selling of Teslas. Perhaps JT is unaware that Tesla sales have falling into the trash heap all across the world. Seems a lot of people do not want a Tesla because the CEO has embraced trump so tightly.

    1. you should find something else to do with your time other than writing idiotic post after idiotic post on this blog.

      1. TSLA stock was down over 50% in less than 6 months after Elon got cozy with trump. SBUX is down far less. Who has caused more economic damage? Elon or SBUX employees?

    2. It is the insane left that has made a U-Turn on Tesla simply out of pique, hatred and ignorance. Why attempt to put the blame of Tesla’s troubles on anyone other than the lunatic left?

  4. I would imagine that by this time, only the wokester types want to be seen with a cup of Starbicks’ swill in their hands anyway. Those who would have been annoyed/offended by this action would have long stopped supporting this ultra prog/left business just as a matter of conscience.

These angry, self-possessed little batista can pause all they want, they just reinforce the notion of what we already know about the lack of a moral compassion by these brainwashed tools.

There are plenty of America-supporting coffee shops to patronize, leave the wokesters in the dust.

  5. SBUX is afraid of their employees much like individuals with poor parenting skills are intimidated by their maladjusted teenagers.
The consequences for SBUX? Stagnation now and shrinkage of their market on the horizon. Much like the poor parenting skills parent’s outlook for their retirement funds as they support their aging maladjusted teenagers.

      1. Similar situation in terms of a shrinking market. The difference being that the coffee is still being consumed but the buyers are choosing a different source based on price and lack of political antics. On the other hand, EV’s are shrinking because consumers are waking up from the EV fantasy dream shattered by lack of charging a stations (imposing limitations on range) AND loss of tax credits.

      2. Tesla was going to shrink, anyway, as the world wakes up to the scam of electric vehicles. I wouldn’t doubt that Musk already knows that and doesn’t mind watching the lunatic left display their hatred for all to see. It only makes the left look even more insane as they destroy the very company that was their darling up until Musk touched the MAGA world. The sheer instability of the woke, prog mind is now on full display and we will all be better off when the world sees them for what they are – empty blowhards with not even the slightest touch of reality.

  6. I was in a town where we actually decried the arrival of Starbuck’s many years ago, it was clear the wind had shifted, and it wasn’t something we wanted; but what were we going to do after money had changed hands? And DOGE is supposed to be oligarchy? Hah!

I don’t frequent coffee shops in general these days, never frequented Starbuck’s, but it’s sweet irony that all these years later, Starbuck’s is basically now the McDonald’s of coffee. Once again, the irony is lost on the iPhone, Tik-Tok using woke employees that don’t seem to realize they are bottom-rung wage slaves at a gigantic and publicly traded corporation. Impossible to take the temper tantrums seriously.

  7. Used to drink Starbucks but they were virtually the only game in town. Don’t use them anymore except on rare occasions. Lots of other choices out there and some are exceptional. As far as their little work stoppage I could care less. If they want to protest, fine. If I have to wait too long or listen to some preaching I just go elsewhere, since there are many choices. Actually some of the best white chocolate mocha (my preferred drink) that I have had were obtained in Hospitals near gifts shops or cafeterias or at Barnes and Noble when reading on Sunday Morning.
If Starbucks is around, that’s fine but if not then there are others. Just not a big deal.

    1. White chocolate mocha is your preferred drink??
I thought your favorite is Black Russians.
Are you finally on the wagon, or is the white chocolate mocha the best way to sober up ???

    2. GEB,
I think it is funny the whining wokesters actually think any one cares. We have a cash only mom and pop, serve breakfast all day shop I prefer to go to. A 7 Brew Drive Thru just opened. Hope between them and DD the Starbucks closes.

      1. NotReallyaFarmer

So you have a breakfast shop AND a 7 Brew Drive Thru near your farm ????

I can’t imagine that they would get much business out in the countryside.

Perhaps these are imaginary businesses like your imaginary farm.

        1. NotReallyTooBright

You must have thought that was soooo clever, until USF mentioned that he owns a car,

          Sniveling little kunt.

  8. Please … every person who spends big time $$ at Starbucks for expensive coffee drinks finds another business to frequent – one where its employees don’t bring their unAmerican politics to work! Then these “brain”washed employees will need to find another job.

  9. Starbucks has always been very overpriced and vastly overrated. Its market was built from pretentious yuppies, who valued one-upmanship over a decent cuppa, and prefer sugary glop that has about the same resemblance to coffee as a McDonalds milkshake has to an actual dairy product. Before I retired, when I had to travel to my corporate office, which was located in an extremely upscale New England suburb, I would avoid the local Starbucks for coffee in favor of the nearby Dunkin location. The DD coffee wasn’t the best I have ever had, but it was better than adequate, and service was decent, two attributes the Starbucks completely lacked.

    1. When I was transferred to the DC area, I had never heard of DD. But after getting tired of waiting and waiting at Starbucks for coffee while they made overly complex, highly expensive drinks, I went to a DD that I noticed near my office. It was much cheaper, faster, and a decent cup of coffee that tasted better than the burnt variety at Starbucks. I’ve never been back, and don’t know why anyone would go to Starbucks unless they’re looking for an expensive calorie bomb of a milkshake concoction.

  10. “. . . Starbucks Employees Pause Service . . .”

Can’t a District Court Judge issue a TRO (infinitely renewed) to “temporarily” pause the pause in service?

    1. Not likely. It would sooner be a TRO mandating the service pauses, and continue them for the full day. Which would, indefinitely renewed, result in Starbucks going bankrupt, and I cannot say I’d lose one second of sleep over it.

      Every fad dies eventually.

      1. “. . . a TRO mandating the service pauses . . .”

        Good point.

And I suppose in this case, the Court would order Starbucks to effectuate, not merely facilitate, the service pauses.

  11. The free market is a brutal but fair judge of corporate behavior. To survive, Starbucks should follow Trump’s policy on how to deal with insubordination and other internal conflicts. The saying, “Go Woke, Go Broke,” is more than a clever line and, as the folks at Anheuser-Busch will attest, standing for principles that are not universal means falling in sales.

    1. Starbucks’ problem with acting on your observation is that “woke” is their corporate essence. Has been since long before anyone coined that term.

  12. There’s nothing special about Starbucks anymore. The market for overpriced coffee is full of competitors from national chains to local shops. Anyone can dish out a decent latte or macchiato. Virtue signaling is becoming passé. Starbucks may take a lesson from the recruiting model of Chick Fil A. I.always notice to the efficiency of their operation and the quality of their staffing.

  13. Thanks for the information which I hadn’t heard about. There are lots of alternatives for high priced coffee in NYC, I think I’ll choose one that doesn’t try to ram their politics down my throat.

    1. I’m a fan of supporting local small businesses, so if I’m going to over pay for a cup of regular or fancied up coffee, I’m going local.
The reference to NYC by Blackbeard reminded me of my trip to the Big Apple for the MAGA rally last year. I asked a few people about a local coffee joint, excluding corporate options. On my walk, I saw an Irish bar, so I strolled in, sat at the bar, and ordered a coffee. It was fresh, hot, and tasty. And they filled me up twice. I also had a great chat w/ the bartender a well as another patron.
      God Bless America!!!

  14. We have been putting up with Starbucks antics, along with an increasing lack of poor customer service, for years. I still have a gift card that I reload every once in a while, as I use Starbucks whenever I have no other choice for a latte. (I used to be a daily customer) However we have opened up 2 new coffee shops in our medium sized town in the last year so hopefully the 2 Starbucks in town will wither and die- and we have an older mom and pop one that I use as much as I can. Not smart Starbucks!

      1. “And what is a medium size town?”

It’s a town bigger than a small one, and smaller than a large one.

Does that satisfy your daily need for attention?
