It was Hur and Hamas: CNN Struggles to Assign Blame for Not Reporting on Biden’s Decline

In the wake of the leaked audio of President Joe Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur, the media is going through another round of spinning its own failure to pursue the question of Biden’s obvious mental and physical decline. That is no more evident than at CNN, which was one of the most hostile networks to such questions before Biden withdrew from the presidential race after his disastrous debate. The struggle was on full display on Friday.

CNN’s host Jake Tapper has faced withering attacks over his publication of a book investigating Biden’s decline, long after the public learned the truth during the debate.  While Tapper has admitted that he could have pushed harder on the question, he has been critical of the White House staff and others who hid the truth from the media despite the fact that many were attacked on CNN for raising the issue (including by Tapper).

On Friday’s CNN’s “The Lead,” CNN Senior Justice Correspondent Evan Pérez raised the same rationale for the performance that the White House used after the debate: Biden was tired due to performing his duties as president. Just as the White House raised how Biden was coming off an international trip before the election, Pérez noted that the interview came after the October 7 attack when Biden “had spent that entire time, obviously, on the phone and working long hours.”

“look, one of the other things that I think is key to understanding this, during this interview, the context, right, is that, you remember, he sat down for these interviews in October of, when, right after the attack by Hamas in Israel. And so, he had spent that entire time, obviously, on the phone and working long hours. And so, the big question, of course, became, a president of his age, and given the stresses of what he was going through, should he have sat down, should that have been the time for him to sit down for several hours of interviews — and they do go over two days of interviews with prosecutors — with everything that they had on the line? Clearly, Joe Biden thought that it was fine to do that. But, clearly, you can see from some of his answers that he does not have a handle on some of this. And so you could say, was it because of fatigue, or is it because of the things that you write about in your book, Jake? And so, that’s the big — I think, the big takeaway or big question that people will take away from listening to this audio.”

On Friday’s broadcast of “CNN NewsNight,” host Abby Phillip blamed not Hamas but Democrats and Hur:

“[I]f Democrats had taken seriously, which, by the way, in a way, Robert Hur kind of undersold this. He kind of threw Joe Biden a lifeline. It was an opportunity, actually, for Democrats to take it seriously, maybe change gears at that point, and maybe [give] a potential nominee more time.”

CNN Political Commentator Maria Cardona piped in that you should not forget to blame the First Lady: “I think, at the end of the day, the accountability falls with Joe Biden, and, frankly, probably, with Jill Biden too, because –.”

Phillip responded, “Yeah, that’s true, but it also falls on the Democratic Party that ostracized people who said anything about Joe Biden’s — attacking the media for even raising the issue of his age, when, clearly, it was an issue. There’s accountability there, too.”

The only lack of accountability has been for the media itself, which is again spinning its own role in dismissing these accounts.

This effort continued right up to the debate itself.  CNN’s Oliver Darcy wrote, “Right-wing media figures are desperately pushing conspiracy theories about Biden ahead of the debate.”

As Joe Concha has pointed out, media outlets attacked Hur after the report to dismiss accounts of Biden’s diminishment when he was still the Democratic standard bearer. Media sources like the Atlantic followed the lead of the White House in attacking Hur for “misleading” the public on Biden’s memory.

Now, Hur is being attacked on CNN for “downplaying” the extent of the diminishment.

What is striking about these accounts is that they suggest that the media was kept in the dark and omit the fact that it was ignoring or opposing those in the media who were raising the concerns. This was an active effort to swat down such concerns until it no longer mattered after the public saw the truth. The media then investigated a story that was impossible to deny or ignore.

The public is obviously not buying it. Instead they are increasingly looking to new media and social media for their news.

Blaming Hamas or Hur is not going to work. For most viewers, it is another “Let’s Go Brandon” moment.

  1. The Constitution and Bill of Rights provide the freedom to operate a business or accept employment.

The Constitution and Bill of Rights do not provide any right to commit crimes against private property, its owner, or related operations.

Only the owner of private property has the right to “claim and exercise” dominion.

Labor has no distinct and particular rights or privileges and all labor laws and the Department of Labor are unconstitutional.

Unions are illegal criminal organizations whose only bargaining points are trespassing, breach of contract, failure to appear for work, vandalism, property damage, intimidation, threats, stalking, assault and battery, etc., and union officers, members, and advocates must be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

    Unions exist on thuggery.

American freedom, as prescribed primarily by Article 1, Section 8, and the absolute 5th Amendment right to private property, has been nullified.

The principles of communism hold dominion as

Admissions affirmative action, grade-inflation affirmative action, employment affirmative action, quotas, welfare, food stamps, minimum wage, rent control, social services, forced busing, public housing, utility subsidies, CRT, DEI, WIC, SNAP, TANF, HAMP, HARP, TARP, PBS, NPR, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Environmental Protection Agency, Agriculture, Education, Labor, Energy, Obamacare, Social Security, Social Security Disability, Social Security Supplemental Income, Medicare, Medicaid, “Fair Housing” laws, “Non-Discrimination” laws, California state control of the private-property homeowner insurance industry, etc., etc., etc.

The singular American failure is the judicial branch, with emphasis on the Supreme Court.

    1. Oh, It’s way passed private property. It’s global financiers now. It’s buying and selling money itself and where is the cheapest labor for a few years and the bottom class doesn’t eat what they make.

There are the workers who wouldn’t issue a document of marriage to same sex nor bake them a cake. Will they also refuse to make goods for a foreign God, Allah? For atheists? One would think it would be so?

  2. Too typically, despite nearly twenty years of me personally trying to get the word out to thousands of more qualified and/or resourceful others (e.g., FDA first in October of 2005; politicians, non-profits, doctors, nurses, Big Food, researchers, healthcare organizations [CDC, NIH, NCI, ACS, etc.] and major media outlets and PBS, since) on some of the root causes of now epidemic chronic physical and mental disorders, the conversation revolves around mere symptoms of now epidemic mental disorders and rage in a perpetual ‘blame game.’ In 1980 (since soy [late 1960s] and the cooking oil preservative TBHQ [1972]) the FDA approved the expanded use of brain damaging, mind altering added artificially cultured “free” (can cross the blood-brain barrier) MSG, as an ‘alleged’ “flavor enhancer.” For about a year now I’ve been posing the question online: “How can any young adult American be held fully legally responsible for any bad acts after two and a half generations of ignorantly and innocently ingesting FDA approved brain damaging, mind altering toxic food additives along with their parents?” Biden? How many more high-up? More details on the “About” page of my mostly neglected old ad-free video channel (https://odysee.com/@charlesgshaver:d?view=about). That’s all for today folks. At age eighty-one I still have something of an independent life to live, without regular prescription treatments of any kind. CGS

  3. This pathetic saga is both a lesson about the moral depravity of the Democratic Party and an indictment of raw power. There were many people in positions of influence who might have risked their prestige both individually and collectively had they the courage to assert themselves and come out against the continuation of an alarming status quo. That they did not is because the Party at any and all cost is more important than principle, and having unmitigated power to control people and events is in the end the only reason to exist?

  4. If the Americans could stop the war themselves, then why don’t they? I mean, if they want to see it stopped so badly, then this is what they would do. As the saying goes: if you want something done, you have to do it yourself. Short of this, the war will go on forever. There are “forever wars” because there have been people like Putin forever.

  5. I think that it was Hunter Biden using the autopen. Reports are that all of the pardons were done using the autopen EXCEPT for Hunter’s. Now ask yourself why that would be. Well Hunter is, or was, a lawyer and he would understand that it if ever came out that it was him using the autopen his pardon could be annulled as emanating from a conflict of interest, at the least. Why did old Joe only sign his son’s pardon?

Now it may be that Jill was the autopen queen and Hunter demanded that old Joe be the one to sign his pardon in case the “you know what” hits the fan and the pardons are ruled null and void due to the signor not being the president at least his would still hold up.

It isn’t hard to imagine Hunter, and even Jill, not caring about Schiff, Adam Kinsinger and Cheney’s pardons being wiped out as long as his remained intact.

    1. The REAL President Obama would have NEVER allowed the impaired and incompetent artist, Hunter Biden, to have any part in his, Obama’s, third-term administration.

  6. To be fair to CNN, reporting that Biden no longer had mental capabilities would have been like reporting that the earth is spinning.

The real outrage is that no one was or IS report who was in control of the US. Whomever (a collective, presumptively) assumed that role should be swinging from that good rope.

    1. CNN promoted Biden’s term by deliberate and wilful OMISSION.

That is criminal subversion, insurrection, treasonous fraud and espionage perpetrated against the entirety of America.

  7. This just in… Rome burns… developing.

The Supreme Court just ruled that deportations have to be slow rolled. I don’t know if that’s permanent or temporary, but the decision was 7-2, so it wasn’t just liberals doing their usual voodoo.

I do know two things: (1) liberals, consciously or unconsciously, want to destroy America out of sheer political malice; they always resented the patriotic virtues that made us a great nation; (2) immigration is their chosen weapon. I can already see what open borders has done to Europe. It’s over for Europe.

I’ve been wrong on two occasions. I assumed Florida would someday go blue and carry America with it. Whew. Didn’t happen. I also feared overturning Roe vs. Wade would empower Democrats. Instead, it turned out to be their nothing burger.

I’m now praying I’ll be wrong one more time, because if there is no path the courts will accept to deport large numbers of illegal immigrants, looks to me like 51% of us–who are the targets of this sabotage–are stuck with a dilemma: go with a Caesar who will crush the Left (and the courts) or be ruled by the most decadent and despotic cross-dressers since Caligula.

I’ll wait to see what develops, but my anxiety is growing. I know if the Democrats get back into power under these circumstances, they will complete their Cannibal Manifesto. For me, it will mean either Caesar or national suicide.

Don’t force me to choose. Trump isn’t Caesar, but that can be arranged.

    1. I would venture to say it is DOGE which is dismantling America one agency at a time, headed by Dementia Don and his trusted henchman Elon. This is a despicable Republican rogue regime.

      1. Good grief, you are an idiot. You can look at what the Dems did for 4 years+ and you blame the people trying to end the corruption? TDS isn’t lost on you.

      2. Those are just more MSM and Democrat lies. President Trump took a cognitive test during his first physical of his second term. He passed. What is despicable is how the Democrat party and a complicit MSM covered up Biden’s mental decline and impairment. What is despicable is how you refuse to ask the question everyone else is asking, who was really running the country? It obviously was not Joe Biden.

      3. Give us a couple examples of how DOGE is “dismantling” America (and if you have one, tell us why that is bad for America.

Face it, the teat-sucklers are miffed because the jig is up. Learn to code.

      4. Imposing efficiency may possibly result in the reduction of “free stuff” and “free status.”

The communist sponges, leeches, and parasites cannot conceive of or process the potential loss of benefits from and entitlements to Other People’s Money (OPM).

      5. America is not a collection of government agencies.

Little else is requisite to carry a state to the highest degree of opulence from the lowest barbarism, but peace, easy taxes, and a tolerable administration of justice; all the rest being brought about by the natural course of things.

        Adam Smith

  8. These articles about the current state of journalism are beating a dead horse. What I want to know is who was running the country for (at least) the last two years of the Biden administration. Why didn’t they let us know that Biden was totally unfit for the job? Who was going to make decisions to respond to attacks or launch offensive weapons? There were procedures in place for the situation. Who made the decision not to follow the rules?

  9. There are two stories here.
    1) Joe Biden was mentally impaired, not fit for office, someone else was running the country, all his EOs, pardons and laws he signed are likely not legal.
    2) The massive cover up by the Democrats and MSM.

    1. Well, the tapes are just a bit of confirmation of what everyone knew. Nothing will happen.

Just waiting for a gun in the ribs. I plan on dropping and playing possum.

  10. I am planning to watch a movie on Amazon this afternoon. The movie is Shattered Glass. The movie is a true story about a reporter named Stephen Glass who made up stories. He worked for a far left publisher known as The New Republic. His editors never checked the facts because they were desperate to push their socialist narrative. A new remake is soon to be released titled Tempestuous Tapper. The new movie is the remake of an old story where a reporter lied over and over again to make his fortune. The movie is based on the new book written by Jake Tapper. Some wait anxiously for the release while those with greater mental cognition will have no interest in consuming ten rotten tomatoes. No problem. Tempestuous Tapper will receive the Oscar for the most sleazy movie of 2025 even after it bombs at the box office. The teaser will be, are the ten rotten tomatoes thrown up as the credits roll? They gonna be who they gonna be.

  11. The Biden decline story is like a plot from the old Mission: Impossible series. The team goes into a banana republic to overthrow a dictator and discovers that he is a senile puppet. The mission has shifted to the PoS wielding the autopen. Find them, execute them, convict them. ASAP.

  12. Time to stop deflecting to old news and focus instead on the cognitive decline of Donald J. Trump. Cholesterol meds may be dissolving the remainder of this old fart’s brain.

    1. Everyone should remember that it was Anonymous who told us that Joe Biden was sharp as a tack. She told us that RussiaGate and Covid from natural origins was the gospel truth. She must be forgetting due to the same ailment that Joe suffers from. She may be forgetting but we will not.

    2. Hey dimwit, did you see where Trump took a cognitive test at his first physical in his second term as president? He happy reported he passed. And are you not the same dimwit who told us all those lies from the Democrat party and MSM? Like, Joe Biden is “Sharp as a tack!” He is, “Laser focused!” And “He runs circles around staff!” Care to address those lies you, the Democrat party and MSM told us for years?

  13. CNN and the entire so called legacy media are irredeemable. They’ve proven beyond doubt they are enemies of the public.
Those in the media are traitors and should be tried, convicted and punished as harshly as law will allow.

  14. The truth about Joe Biden’s mental state was obvious during the 2020 campaign. He was using cue cards and was given a page with the photos of the news organization that the “reporter” was affiliated with. He was often given questions ahead of time and it was a painful to watch production. The news organizations were largely complicit. Those that dared say anything, were slapped down.

There was no one who would have trusted Joe Biden to drive their kids home from school or performed any function competently in society, yet he was the President of the United States (in name only) and his administration exacted a great deal of damage, both here and abroad.

Those who did not (and do not see) see this for what it was, chose to close their eyes to the truth.

Now the damage is done. One of the 290,000 missing children was recently discovered by I.C.E. The 14 year old was found living with two grown adult men and is now pregnant. Yet, there are those who defend thugs, hardened criminals and protest the very people trying to prevent such heinous human trafficking.

The burden falls on the news organizations but it also rests on the consumer of news who takes the lazy way out and actually believes the gaslighting and propaganda spewed out from such strive bearers.

    1. E.M.
The problem is half the country are dupes. They blindly watch and believe anything MSM spouts. They do not question. And when it is proven that MSM lied to them all this time, they make up excuses for getting lied too.

      1. The problem is half the country are dupes.

        You are being generous, bro.

I used to enjoy reading the comments section on Youtube pages for movie trailers. Now they are disturbing. The new Superman movie trailer, (already 11M views in 1 month) has a plot that looks dumb and predictable (typical for DC and Marvel movies). Yet the commenters could not be more engaged with Superman’s dog, “Krypto”, and find him relatable, even if the dog is AI driven. Check these comments. We are so in trouble in this country

        1. We all agree, the country is in trouble.

This trailer was well done and served its purpose. I found it exceptionally funny because it evoked many memories and Krypton as a caricature of my puppy. Thanks for the trailer.

  15. CNN and MSNBC have lost audience. The big networks have lost credibility. The NY Times is an unreliable source on anything favoured or opposed by progressives. The proliferation of alternative sources of information has rendered all of them unnecessary.

    1. Still, MSM’s national presence for morning and evening news commands viewership (especially NBC and ABC). (I first realized this during the Boston Marathon bombing coverage). Accordingly, their slanted political ideology does affect all of us, notwithstanding other options.

  16. so Criminal Conspiracy, Libel, Sedition, defamation, etc aren’t crimes?

Why does the GOP try to be so good…while Democrats are literally destroy the USA!

  17. Years ago, researchers used to claim that as a person ages, his identifying personality traits are exacerbated. I do not know if that is still considered true or not, -but for me, Biden’s personality has ALWAYS been defined by dishonesty, plagiarism, and gregariously-created and unbelievable tales.
That being said, I don’t think his age alone is an indicator of his decline, but his denial of many things is true to form. Consider that,
in this very comment section, I have recently realized how many of its contributors are past middle age- just in the last few days I believe a female commenter (don’t remember the name) said she was 81 and offered a meaningful contribution.
Although I no longer can be considered a spring chicken myself, I want to take the time thank our older commenters for their contributions to this site. Your insights, involvement, worldly wisdom add depth and seasoning to the discussions and make me appreciate the value of critical thinking to keep one’s mind sharp.

    1. Lin, your commentary is much appreciated. Just think about the fact that the media focus was consistently on Joe Biden’s age. His multiple character flaws, which were hardly mentioned, were legendary.

    2. “Biden’s personality has ALWAYS been defined by dishonesty, plagiarism, and gregariously-created and unbelievable tales.” Very well said! Word Salad Joe is starring in a new miniseries called “This never happened!”.
