Pie-Crust Patriotism: Michael Moore Rewrites the Pledge of Allegiance

Filmmaker Michael Moore has decided that it is time to rewrite the Pledge of Allegiance in the name of tolerance and unity while attacking “MAGA-heads” and President Trump. If that seems confusing, it is a model of clarity when compared to the new pledge. Mary Poppins (who is perfect in everyway) would likely call this “pie-crust patriotism.”

Moore has previously sought to amend the Constitution by repealing the Second Amendment. He also suggested surrounding the Supreme Court to prevent the confirmation of another conservative justice (without explaining how such a blockade would stop a confirmation across the street).

He is now turning his hand to the Pledge of Allegiance.

Many Americans are understandably a tad attached to our pledge, starting with “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Rev. Francis Bellamy would not likely be won over by the Moore remake. (The phrase “under God” was incorporated later into the Pledge of Allegiance on June 14, 1954). Here is the new version:

“I pledge allegiance to the people of the United States of America. And to the democracy for which we all stand: One person, one vote, one nation, part of one world, everyone! A seat at the table! Everyone! A slice of the pie! With liberty and justice, equality, and kindness and the pursuit of happiness for all.”

As an initial matter, I fail to see how the nation is embodied by a run-on sentence that has more exclamation marks than a pre-teen’s text to bffs.

The call for unity is particularly curious from a person who has labeled Republicans as racists and consistently engaged in rage rhetoric. Among his prior unifying, “slice of the pie” declarations was that white people “are not good people” and are inherently dangerous.

The Moore pledge has all of the elements that would unify any gathering on Rodeo Drive. It replaces nationalism with globalism and introduces a pastry-based patriotism.

To paraphrase Mary Poppins, “Oh, that’s a piecrust [pledge]! Easily made, easily broken!”

      1. Ano

Prez Trump has lost weight, he doesn’t drink. Plus the only stupid person I see here is you!

    1. After I read this article, I went direct to the bottom of the page and posted the very same quotation. We just happen to have the same thought.

  1. “ He also suggested surrounding the Supreme Court to prevent the confirmation of another conservative justice (without explaining how such a blockade would stop a confirmation across the street).”

    He did explain,

“ Michael Moore on Friday said he would rally on Capitol Hill with a million others to keep lawmakers from confirming President Trump’s pick to succeed outgoing Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.”

I assume he was referring to a Trump style “protest” like that of Jan 6. If it was ok with MAGAs it should be ok for Moore.

Heck, even by John Say’s standards that should be legal.

  2. Jonathan. I usually look forward to your logical and well thought out posts. However, this one is not quite the same. When you start out with a bag of arrogant fecal content as the subject matter, you will never be able to organize that disgusting material into a pleasant lump.
Sorry for the putrid metaphor about a putrid loser.

But the comments are worth it!!

  3. Turley seems to be a tad miffed at changing the pledge of allegiance. So? If Michael Moore wants to propose a different, more realistic pledge that clarifies what is still the truth about what this country stands for, he’s free to do so. George Carlin famously rewrote the 10 commandments to reflect reality better and replace obsolete ideas.

Turley pointed out that the pledge has been altered from its original, adding “under God.” The original version emphasized the secular nature of the pledge, which is itself a testament to the idea of including everyone regardless of religion, but as always, Christians are never happy with just being equal to everyone else.

    1. Your anti-Christian stance is quite clear. Although it is unpopular with you, the United States of America is a Republic founded on Judah-Christian values. As a Christian I am very happy with my equality to you (if you are an American). As for making any change to the Pledge of Allegiance, either have the Legislative Branch pass a Bill and the President sign it. Until then we can keep In God WE Trust.

      1. It was founded on the idea that Religion and government should remain separeted. Our founders were well aware of the dangers of allowing Religion to dictate morals and values through government. That’s why the 1st amendment’s prohibition on government not respecting a religion, but not infringing on religious practice is important.

        1. “prohibition on government not respecting a religion”

          WRONG

Cite that nonsense from the Contstitution. You just made it up.

Our government is required to respect ALL reigions.

          1. We know that George can only repeat blather; he cannot think nor analyze concepts. Just ignore his self-righteous regurgitation of prog talking points.

        2. Our founding fathers also realized that people without a moral core ( such as atheists – apart from deists) have no moral core that is agreed upon by the culture in general but is an a la carte mish mash that evolves etc.

Any historian knows that any nation based on a set of agreed upon values will disintegrate as soon as that cohesion is gone.

If you want to see our future run by progs just take a hard look at the disintegration of Britain. A nation which lasted over 1,000 years, gone with their horrible mistake of adopting multiculturalism

          1. “. . . people without a moral core ( such as atheists . . .”

Nice try. There have been secular moral codes since ancient Greece (see Aristotle).

Your desire to evade their existence does not magically make them vanish.

        3. “It was founded on the idea that Religion and government should remain separeted.?

Wrong! The Founders didn’t ban religion from government; they banned a national church. Many States had religious influence, and some even supported specific denominations.

  4. I wouldn’t mention “pie” in the presence of that Gastropod for fear of being crushed in the stampede. Like the Great White Whale, he surfaces occasionally to blow, although with a lessening frequency for which we should be thankful.

  5. OMG…………… really, this loon who was once famous for what 6 months.

Hey Mikey, go on a long diet.

  6. The “slice of pie” reference is spot-on for a fat, no-neck, slob who has never missed a meal in his entire life.

  7. At the 1974 Oscars a streaker ran past David Niven at the podium. Unflappable, David looked out to the audience and said “nice of him to show us his shortcomings”. Michael Moore is, however, a reliable marker for the deep end of the lunatic pool.

  8. It’s too bad we don’t have arranged marriages? I’d pair Moore with “Scary Poppins.” A perfect punishment for both those Leftards! 😁👍

  9. I want to ask Moore, who doesn’t have a slice of the pie with Medicaid, Medicare, Obamacare, Social Security Retirement, Social Security Disability, Supplemental Security Income, SNAP, Subsidized Housing, Earned Income Tax Credit, Workers Comp Insurance, and Unemployment Insurance?

  10. Michael is not just using rage rhetoric, he’s a fascist who would do things, were in his power, like surrounding the Supreme Court. Also, it’s my belief, that like many of his left wing peers, he would assassinate and imprison people because he didn’t like them. These people are fascists and we see it every time they get power. They freely use the word about the right – I can’t tell you whether they actually believe it or not – and the right had better start using it about the left too. I don’t ask them to lie or threat, just call it out and call a spade a spade. I learned this near the beginning of my legal profession – if one side is calling names, and the other side does nothing about it, the recipients of the abuse usually lose.

  11. Send Tim packing. I used to enjoy watching his documentary because he uncovered so much abuse. But now he has gotten to political and gets things wrong a lot. He does not seem to support this country nor the constitution and now he wants to change the Pledge of Allegiance? It would be nice if he could find a country where he could be happy instead of complaining about this one all the time.

  12. Michael Moore is a whimper from the past. He was reputed to have been a filmmaker. I did not think he was relevant anymore, if he ever was. Jack T says it well.
Nothing to see here, Move on to the next subject.

  13. Mr Dingleberry better be reminded we’re a Republic not a democracy, I don’t think he would like a pure democracy.

  14. Michael Moore is a dolt. His ideas typify why Democrats have forever forfeited any claim of right, ability or competence to govern a free people in a constitutional Republic such as ours. He needs to sit back in a recliner with a copy of Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” in one hand and a Hemlock Margarita in the other.

    1. He does have something for us to learn from. That fanaticism can lead to deranged minds that can influence the young as well as think alike individuals. We should take it seriously lest it take control of logical thought and action.

  15. Michael Moore is an idiot with some small talent for piecing together out of sequence, out of context video clips to make a lie appear true. Why anyone would pay attention to him is beyond comprehension.
