Trump Critics Face the “Nightmare” of Peace Breaking Out in the Midst of an Impeachment Effort

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) announced this morning that he would oppose the introduction of his war powers resolution on Iran if the ceasefire holds. He described the resolution as a moot point if peace is restored. That is clearly not going to satisfy colleagues like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) who is struggling to maintain her call for impeachment.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez seemed a tad adrift when asked about the ceasefire, offering a rambling explanation on why it does not change a thing in terms of impeachable conduct:

“I think that the president of the United States, admitting that he unilaterally brought the United States into a war without congressional approval, is a very grave public admission. It is illegal. It is unconstitutional…And, and so for me, while the president is posting something about a ceasefire, I think what he also posted was an official acknowledgement that this was war. And I think that is something that should be taken into very serious consideration.”

It was an obvious blow to many democrats. You get all dressed up for an impeachment and then peace suddenly breaks out.

If it is any solace, there was never a plausible impeachment in the making. If so, you could have impeached presidents going back to Thomas Jefferson. Barack Obama dropped over 26,000 bombs in 2016 alone from Syria to Libya to Somalia to Pakistan to Afghanistan to Iraq. Democrats did not rise up and demand impeachment after Obama was hitting targets around the world.

Nevertheless, you could also taste the palpable disappointment for many. However, Marisa Tomei may have put it best for some when peace suddenly broke out in the middle of an impeachment effort (warning foul language):

  1. His (Trump’s) bombing of Iran without even consulting Congress sets us up for the next 9/11.

Why weren’t you, Crockett, and AOC saying that exact same thing just one year ago, when you were all supporting Biden still running for reelection while he bombed THREE Islamic countries WITHOUT consulting Congress?

    I know: BBBBBBUUUUTTTTTT….. MUH TRUMMPPPPP!!!!!

  2. Dennis: remember just last year, when you, George and the rest of the Soviet Democrats and Useful Idiots from both parties were first losing your minds and claiming Biden was starting a war when Biden (by then The Oval Office Vegetable), supposedly unconstitutionally bombed THREE Islamic countries while he was still running for reelection?

Jonathan: Is “Peace Breaking Out” in the Middle East? Will the fragile cease fire negotiated by DJT through Qatar hold?… As so often happens in the fog of war DJT miscalculated

Yet you didn’t notice the brain fog of The Oval Office Vegetable bombing multiple Islamic countries with his trusted advisor, The First Crackhead Son, helping him hold our nuclear football in the White House!

It seems you and George are facing a hopeless losing battle to win any credibility here.

  3. Please, Prof Turley, please write something that AOC can understand to explain why our Constitution’s Separation of Powers requires that many major conflicts between two branches of government cannot be resolved by simply passing another statute whose applicability to the situation can only be resolved by judicial review and reinforcement of the necessity for finding a compromise between the branches.

The legislative branch cannot simply assume Executive Branch powers to overpower a President. The proposed new War Powers Act will always do nothing more than trigger a structured minuet between Congress and the President, one that is only tediously expanded by raising the invective level in the public polemic surrounding it. This is both the weakest and strongest link in our entire system of government.

    1. “Write something that AOC can understand. . . Z” – An exercise in futility if I ever heard of one.

    2. Margarita Ingredients:

To make the best margarita mix, all you really need are three basic margarita ingredients:

Tequila: Silver or reposado is traditionally considered to be the best tequila for margaritas, but any type of tequila (or smoky mezcal or sotol) will work.

Freshly-squeezed lime juice: For the best fresh flavor, I highly recommend juicing your own limes versus using store-bought lime juice. I swear by this citrus juicer, which makes juicing a breeze and comes in especially handy if you are making a large batch.

Orange liqueur: Cointreau is my go-to, but Grand Marnier is also delicious or you can use a good-quality Triple Sec.

You are also welcome to add:

Agave: If you would like to sweeten your margarita, I recommend adding agave syrup (or simple syrup, or any other sweetener you prefer) to taste.

Kosher salt: If you would like to salt the rims of your glasses, run a lime wedge around the rims and then dip them in coarse Kosher salt or margarita salt. (I also like to mix some Tajín into my salt to give it an extra chili-lime kick.)

Additional lime slices/wedges: Save a few extra lime slices or wedges if you would like to add them to the glass as garnish.

NOTE: Kosher salt: Democrats may substitute Persian blue salt.

  4. President Trump can’t catch a break from most everyone. At least the guy is trying and I sincerely believe the driving force living inside the man is to truly restore our country. He doesn’t take a salary and uses his own money to upgrade parts of the WH, example would be the two flag poles at $50,000 a pop. That alone tells me he is not in it to take advantage of his position to build up his bank account as the insufferable left would have us believe. Sometimes each of us believes in something or someone only to be disappointed. There’s a song, “Don’t Stop Believing,” that says it all.

    1. If they don’t slap down the judge that is defying them on deporting illegals to countries other than their own home country by making a minor change to his original order but keeping in effect, obstructing justice and outright insurrection of the Supreme Court, the Court will have no prestige left. I wonder why Mr. Truley is avoiding opining on this subject?

District court judges are now making a mockery of the Supreme Court, the Constitution (as the Supreme Court is the only constitutionally mandated court), the Executive of the USA, and the majority of Congress. District Judges now think they are dictators.

  5. Jonathan: Is “Peace Breaking Out” in the Middle East? Will the fragile cease fire negotiated by DJT through Qatar hold? It’s anyone’s guess. But one thing is clear. Netanyahu does not want peace and he will do everything to sabotage the cease fire. For 30 years he has wanted the US to help overthrow the Iranian regime and put in place a puppet government that would support Israel. Didn’t happen under Obama and it didn’t happen under Biden. But Bibi was able to play DJT like a fiddle by getting the US president to bomb Iran. Netanyahu was able to convince DJT that by bombing Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility and destroying it Iran would surrender and sue for peace on Israel’s terms.

Didn’t quite happen as Bibi and DJT planned. Days before the US bombing Iran evacuated all its nuclear facilities and moved its uranium to more secure places. The Fordow facility was not destroyed. And Iran didn’t play dead. It struck back with a rain of missiles on Haifa, Tel Aviv and other cities demonstrating the Israel’s “Iron Dome” was a fiction. Then Iran sent missiles into a US base in Qatar and its proxies in Iraq attacked a US base there–Yes, we still have military bases in Iraq. Iran demonstrated it can attack when and where it wants despite all the bombing by the US and Israel.

As so often happens in the fog of war DJT miscalculated. He thought there would be a quick war and a quick peace. To make matters worse DJT’s MAGA base deserted him, led by MTG and Steve Bannon. Popular opinion in the US and the entire international community is opposed to DJT’s war. He can’t find one ally except Fox News. The Fox hosts yesterday bizarrely claimed DJT should get the Nobel Peace prize for bombing Iran!

So here’s a thought. If DJT really wants peace in the Middle East he could take the initiative. Stop vetoing UN Security Council resolutions calling for an independent Palestinian state. With one vote in favor DJT could stop the bloodshed and Netanyahu’s genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people. And DJT would probably get the Nobel Peace Prize for such a bold move–something DJT has always wanted. Naturally, DJT would face ferocious opposition from the Israeli lobby that controls US policy in the Middle East. But to avoid a wider war in the Middle East and the possibility of WWIII isn’t it worth the effort?

    1. You couldn’t be more of a traitor to the U.S. and western civilization, if you were the Ayatollah’s own son—your anti-American factoid-rhetoric is nauseating.

  6. Ugh, who knew NYC has ranked choice voting, an undemocratic farce? Someone who nobody chose as their first choice could end up winning. Now it could take two weeks to find out if that huge city will be ruled by an antisemitic commie jihadist instead of a mere nursing-home-killer, Andrew Cuomo, who would be the less bad of the two options by far.

    1. The choices are stunningly bizarre and dangerous. The extreme-left in the U.S. is proving that they can match London’s political squalor and insanity.

  7. Yet more proof, as if Americans needed additional data, that the Left Democrats/MSM use people as talking points, but couldn’t care less about the peoples tragedies. It’s as if the Left pick up a dead body to use it as a carcass to avoid sniper fire, then discard the dead body gleefully because they avoided being shot.

The Left Democrats/MSM do not care about anyone, not one individual, not even their virtue signaling identity groups. Otherwise, they would speak for innocent Christians who are being slaughtered in the Middle East by Militant Muslims. Where are the US immigrant protestors on student visas marching for the dead Christians? They are all frauds and should be sent back to their native countries for promoting their violent cells that are a threat to America

At least 20 people were killed and over 50 injured Sunday after a suspected ISIS suicide bomber opened fire inside Mar Elias Church in eastern Damascus before detonating an explosive device, according to Syria’s Health Ministry. The attack marks one of the deadliest in the capital in recent months and follows the uncovering of ISIS cells in rural Damascus just weeks earlier.

    1. @Estovir

They really are on a roll of vileness, a new low, and that’s saying something. I stopped watching the MSM way back in the 90s, it was a fraction as bad then, and even someone like me is *stunned* by their modern malfeasance, and they just keep tripling down. Truly off the charts.

‘Evil’ is quickly becoming the only descriptor befitting the modern left, and I don’t say that lightly, either. We haven’t seen anything like this on a global scale since WWII, if ever, IMO.

    2. “It’s as if the Left pick up a dead body to use it as a carcass to avoid sniper fire, then discard the dead body gleefully because they avoided being shot.”
      Impeccable analogue….
May I add that the gleeful exploitation of bodies (dead or alive) is inhuman. We are seeing evil, incarnate.

    3. It’s my belief as souls become corrupted by what they’re seeing, hearing, what is said and being done in words , deeds, pictures will be cleaned from our souls as in restore my soul after death. Most anything is better than this… green grass and still water.

  8. It appears the memes on the bombing of Iran are taking the internet by storm:

    Dr. Eli David
    @DrEliDavid

@EmmanuelMacron visited French 🇫🇷 Navy ships to make sure in case of WWIII, they have a sufficient supply of white flags.

    Dr. Eli David
    @DrEliDavid
🚨 Breaking: Iran intercepted one of B-2 bombers using Photoshop

    https://x.com/DrEliDavid/status/1937595819013681531

However the Iranian media is reporting what really happened:

    1. Looking at horror films from various nations is revealing. The Japanese really don’t like moths or lizards or the reverse. The US puts out life after death horror. It moved into space horror later.

    1. #. Knocked it back but unless there’s a regime change in Iran moving to democracy and growth to modernization it’s just time gained and it will continue in violence. IMO.

      1. #. Consider this was a support mission and not a US mission. The planes were needed to deliver for Israel.

        That might matter.

  9. A Defense Intelligence Agency report regarding damage in Iran has been leaked.

The report is based on a battle damage assessment that was carried out by US Central Command, essentially looking at the satellite images and looking at what was actually damaged.
The Defense Intelligence Agency has assessed that the core components of Iran’s nuclear program are largely intact and that Iran’s nuclear program has essentially only been set back by months,”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged the existence of the report.

    1. The super secret nuclear program that was frozen in 2003 and even if it wasn’t frozen was nowhere near producing a bomb but even it were close to a bomb a fatwa prohibits further work and the same program was nowhere near actually producing a bomb because Netanyahu is such a liar and a war criminal but now suddenly that program is fully active and only months away from making a bomb and we are only admitting that because we’re trying to make Trump look bad. That program?

Sorry, I have a headache trying to follow leftist “logic”

    2. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged the existence of the report.

But the administration is disputed its accuracy, which you conveniently failed to mention. Perhaps you want the assessment to be accurate, and are crowing about it hoping it’s accurate, because you want Iran to have nukes? Because you want America and other nations to be blackmailed or even nuked by the maniacal genocidal death cult that rules Iran? Or maybe if you don’t want that, you figure it is a price worth paying for Trump not to “win.”

      1. OMFK

        I’m not crowing about anything.
Any proliferation of nuclear weapons is harmful no matter who does the proliferating, including the US. The use of nuclear weapons by anyone will doom the entire planet.

The report was based on information from US Central Command.
DIA simply put the report together based on what Central Command told them.

You have a fascinating cult mentality that requires you to attack the messenger for any information that does not comport with your MAGA delusions.
Your pathetic attack on DIA is based on an interaction with a few field agents in Afghanistan at least 10 or 20 years ago.

Apparently you discount what US Central Command assesses in favor of the delusions of your cult and the voices in the head of your cult leader.
You say that the administration disputes the accuracy of the report.
What possible basis could a few political hacks have to dispute US Central Command ???

If you look at the many satellite images online you can tell there was minimal damage. Images from before the strike show the Iranians filling in the entrance to the Fordo facility with dirt.
The images after the strike show that the dirt fill is intact. If the bunker buster bombs had actually penetrated into the underground facility, the blast would have blown out the dirt.
Also there is no significant subsidence around the bomb craters. If the bombs had penetrated into the hollowed out space of the facility, there would have been massive subsidence as the overhead rock collapsed into the cavity of the facility.

The reality is that this entire fiasco was a performative stunt to satisfy the ego of a megalomanical cult leader.

Trump claimed complete and total destruction of the facilities before the bombers had even returned.
There is no possible way that he, or anyone else could know that at the time he made the claim.

        1. ATS – AGAIN – why are we to beleive you ?

You spray alot of claims – but there is no ACTUAL source.

With respect to BDA – how exactly can you tell fro a satelite photo whether Fordow was penetrated ?

I beleive Fordow was hit by 10 MOPS – 5 pairs at separate targets.

These are supposed to penetrate to about 90M and when they stop – they explode.

The explosion is going to turn 90M of Rock into 90M of gravel – some of it is going to be ejected, but it is going to fall back where it came from. The purpose of these bombs is to essentially Liquify the rock and concrete at the target.

If the MOP’s only penetrated 100ft – the satellite photos would look much the same.

Possibly the best evidence would be seismegraphic. But even there – I am not sure in the midst of a massive bombing campaign that sorting out whether the “vaults” at Fordow collapsed is probably impossible.

Separately – What is an outcome that you think is a failure ?

First – it is near certain that all access to Fordow has been destroyed. It does not require MOPs to do that
We are looking at Months just to dig Fordow out.

With near certainty the centrefuges had an uncontrolled shutdown – 80% of them are trashed.

At Fordow and elsewhere the loss of centrefuges is alone going to cost years to recover.

If the Vault is still intact – Fordow itself is still useless. It is no longer under 300ft of Rock, it is under 300ft of gravel.
It si very vulnerable. Rebuilding Fordow elsewhere is a several year long operation.

Conversely if the vault has been collapsed – recovering anything inside esentially will require put mining to get to the enriched uranium,
Which is still going to require reprocessing after being contaminated.

The Worst case scenario is that Iran removed all the enriched Uranium and lots of centrefuges BEFORE Fordow was hit.
If that WERE the case – We and the Israelis know where they went.

If Iran moved enough 60% uranium AND enough centrefuges – they can EVENTUALLY make 5-10 bombs – given they can make triggers, mate them to an ICBM and that they have enough ICBM’s left.
And the scientists left with the skills to do all this.

And they still have to do it all in secret.

          1. As you said yourself, “You spray alot of claims – but there is no ACTUAL source.”

You do the same. Nobody knows or will know the true extent of the damage to Fordow. It’s all just a guess right now and it more likely Iran moved a lot of material to another unknown location. There are confirmed reports of a lot of activity (trucks and earth moving equipment) at Fordow days prior to the attack. The Iranians are not stupid. They know Trump is an idiot and a liar and they have no reason to Trust him or the Israelis.

We shouldn’t forget that it was Israel that lied about WMD’s in Iraq and we ended spending trillions and got nothing to show for it. Israel has lied constantly about Iran’s nuclear program and it’s “imminent” threat for years. It’s always been an imminent threat that never materialized.

Trump made a huge mistake bombing Iran for Israel. It gives them every right to retaliate in kind whenver they choose to and that missle barrage into the U.S. Qatari base was just a show. The real retaliation will come later and we will not able to say we didn’t deserve it because we do. Trump loved the attention and the idea of being the peace broker. The short “cease fire” was just a taste of how he’s been manipulated by the Israelis. Trump is not being taken seriously by the Israelis. Only when it serves their interest do they show “respect”.

            1. “…and we will not able to say we didn’t deserve it because we do.”…Unbelievable. You can’t possibly be an American. Your intifada-insurgence is not only embarrassing, it’s a warning. People like you ARE the sleeper cells, providing the useful-idiocy needed to destroy the United States.

        2. At no point in your insane rant did you ever come close to making an actual point. Personally, I’m embarrassed for you, that you even posted this.

        3. “I’m not crowing about anything.”

          Somehow, I don’t believe you: “. . . this entire fiasco was a performative stunt . . .”

      2. As ATS reported it, the assessment can not possibly be accurate.

The things we KNOW for certain set back Iran’s nuclear program a couple of years.

        We will know eventually.

As will other nations in the world.

One of the big deals is whether the MOP’s worked.

If they did – everything you want to protect from the US must be much more than 300ft below a mountain
If they did not – exactly how effective they were will matter. Are they good to 200ft ? ….

The assessment of the results of the MOP’s tells every country in the world how deep they must bury things they are protecting from the US

        1. The program has been set back a couple of months more likely. The Iranians are not stupid. It’s with near certainty that they had backup plans and sites since they current ones are very well known. There is ample evidence that they did move material out of Fordow before the strikes.

Now they have a real incentive to build a nuclear weapon and once they do it will make it much harder for the Israelis to do anything about it. Iran having a nuclear weapon will only cement the ability of the current government to stay in power. North Korea has nuclear weapons. Pakistan has them, India has them and we don’t seem at all too concerned about it. But if any middle easter nation seeks them its suddenly not acceptable for any reason. Having nuclear weapons guarantees protection from invasion. Ukraine gave up it’s nukes and it opened the door for Russia to attack it. If it kept them Russia would never have attacked Ukraine.

          1. They weren’t Ukrainian nuclear weapons, they were Russian (Soviet) weapons hosted on Ukrainian land. Your childish understanding would consider Montana to have a nuclear deterrence. The Ukrainians couldn’t have maintained the weapons had they even tried.

You’re simply embarrassing yourself the more that you talk.

    3. Israel has a couple hundred ‘nukes’. .. the U.S. has many thousands.

As the Iranians pointed out in 2003; ‘what the hell would we do with a nuclear bomb.. . polish it?’

*at least they seem to be ‘rational actors’.

      1. “As the Iranians pointed out in 2003; ‘what the hell would we do with a nuclear bomb.. . polish it?’:

Whomever believes that statement to be true is an idiot.

        1. Evidently, Trump believes it .. . which would help explain your irrational hostility, S. Meyer.

Hence, Trump’s ceasefire. Praise the Lord. We assess with high probability it’s most likely a win-win – something you know little about – but, precisely because of fanatics like you, has little chance of success.

In any case, I think a Nobel Peace Prize is a bit premature.

*nevertheless, I’m curious; whom do you think ‘won the war’?

          1. “Evidently, Trump believes it” Believes what? Irrational hostility doesn’t exist in my mindset, but I get frustrated with ignorant antisemites who act as if they know what they are talking about while knowing next to nothing. So that you don’t get confused, I am talking about you and a few others.

            “because of fanatics like you”

You throw words around as if you know what they mean, falsely believing you can prove what you claim.

“In any case, I think a Nobel Peace Prize is a bit premature.”

Your thoughts follow your words, blowing in the wind, while making little sense. You are unfocused. The Nobel Peace Prize wasn’t mentioned above.

“whom do you think ‘won the war’?”

The entire world, even the people of Iran.

        1. Given what we’ve seen of the performance of Russian military tech in Ukraine, I’d be more worried about their super missiles if I lived in Russia. It’s not like they’ll actually get anywhere near the intended target.

      2. SO???? Do they go around threatening to use them like IRAN does days after days
Not like IRAN doesn’t have a history for supporting terror

      3. So, ‘splain the point of enriching uranium to 60%. Are you aware of some purpose for doing that other than to create a nuclear weapon? Also, ‘splain why we (assuming you consider yourself an American) and Israel having nukes affect the consideration. If Iran drops one yes we can annihilate them, So what?

        1. Presumably, a rational actor would not want to be ‘annihilated’. .. so the question remains; what possible benefit would a nuclear weapon have for Iran?

*Of course, there is also the ‘theory’ that Iran’s possession of nuclear weapons could act as some deterrent to attack from other nations .. . certainly, that’s Israels national defense posture.

          1. Iran today is a theocracy with leaders that beleive that god will reward them if they go out in a blaze of glory.

Even more rational countries like Japan barely walked back from the brink of national suicide and then ONLY after two nukes were dropped.

I would strongly suggest that you read John Tolland’s pulitzer prize winning account of the last days of WWII told from the Japanese perspecive – Historian Tollands wife was Japanese.

Iran makes Japan look sane and predictable.

Further the most benign outcome of Iran getting a nuke would be an arms race in the mideast.

The Saudi’s would buy nukes from someone nearly immediately, as would Qatar,
Egypt and Turkey would start their own programs to aquire nukes.

          2. “. . . a rational actor . . .”

            That’s your first mistake.

Iran’s religious totalitarians are the most *irrational* actors in the world.

Are some people really that ignorant about Iran’s political philosophy? And about its (dictatorial) form of government? Do they really not know that Iran has an iron grip over its own citizens, complete with morality police? Do they not know that for some 40 years, Iran has been the world’s greatest state sponsor of terrorism?

Or is it just that they do not want to know?

      4. We are talking about the country responsible for funding the lions share of terrorism in the world.

DG – while there is some doubt as to how close Iran was to a working Nuke – there is ZERO doubt that they were working towards on.

They spent billions trying to get there.

When has Iran acted Rationally in the past 50 years ?

      5. “*at least they seem to be ‘rational actors’.” You don’t know what you’re talking about. You BLOVIATE like a useful-idiot.

Here’s a Short List of innocent “polishing” by “rational actors:”

        * The control and oppression of women, violent paternalism and sexual assault, domestic violence (femicide)
        * Excessive “lethal force” against citizens and jailing of civil-rights defenders
        * Severe persecution of other religions and minorities
        * NO “due process” AND torture
        * Excessive and increasing executions (public hangings of political prisoners): https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2024/04/iran-executes-853-people-in-eight-year-high-amid-relentless-repression-and-renewed-war-on-drugs/
        * State-sponsored terrorism around the globe

    4. While in Afghanistan, I met a number of those DIA yahoos. They were about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.
I will wait until we get further information.

      1. NotReallyaFarmer

So you are waiting for further information.
        From where ??
        From who ???

Perhaps the voices in your head ????

        1. ATS – what information do we have now ?

All you have provided is an unsourced story from the same people who gave us the Hunter Biden laptop is russian disinformation and the collusion delusion.

I am sure there ARE many assessments – all of which are classified and leaking the actual contents of any of them would get you a LONG sentence in levenworth.

We do have Israel’s public assessment that Iran has been set back years.

Israel gets things wrong with respect to Iran occasionally – but NOT nearly so badly as the US.

What Israel was able to do to Iran in a few days alone should tell you that Israel has excellent intelligence in Iran.

After all they beleive that Iran with a nuke is the end of Israel.

          They are pretty motivated.

The MSM lost credibility a long time ago

      2. As usual John Say engages in an absurd rambling recitation of the information he gets from the voices in his head.

The situation here is quite simple.
The question is, how much damage was actually done.
On the one hand we have the insane comments from Trump, a matter of hours after the strike, that Iran’s nuclear program is totally obliterated. There is no possible way that he could know this.

On the other hand we have assessment from the US Central Command, who actually conducted the mission, that there is minimal damage.

So you take the word of an insane cult leader, who cannot possibly have any personal knowledge of the damage, over the word of US Central Command, who actually conducted the mission.

You are out of your mind.
But this has always been obvious from your long history of nonsensical comments.

        1. The voices I am listening to are myriads of experts over the course of the past several weeks.

You say the assessment is from Central Command – then you will be able to name a source ?

We have ALL had far too much of this very specific and totally made up nonsense from the MSM for the past decade.
Only left wing nuts beleeive it.
Do I really need to list all the major news that the MSM has made up or thoroughly botch ?

Nor is this “all that simple”

Starting with Fordow – which is only ONE part of an overall assessment.

Was the enriched uranium and centrefuges there ? I think it is highly likely they were, but there is reporting that they were removed. If so where ? Do you think that Israel and the US completely missed 4000Kg of enriched Uranium and thousands of centrifuges being moved ? That they do not know where they went if they were ?

Iran had enough 60% Uranium to make 5-10 bombs – BUT they still needed to further enrich that uranium, develop a trigger, machine the Uranium, make it into a bomb – one that can be mated to an existing ICBM and that is light enough to be delivered.

None of this is easy and much of the euipment and more importantly the people needed to do this are DEAD.

If Fordow survived unscatheed – the damage Israel had already done set Iran back 18 months according to IAEA experts in Public interviews. The IAEA is not covered by the espionage act so they do not go to jail for reporting their own expert assessment.

I have addressed elsewhere the difficulty assessing BDA from MOPS via satellite photo.

Damage to Targets 300ft below ground is probably not possible to determine by Satellite.

Do I trust the assessments of those that claim Fordow is gone ? Nope.
But I have even less trust for unsourced claims by the MSM.

You can repeat “central Command” or DIA all you want – until someone attaches their name to it
it smells exactly like the dozens of MAJOR MSM hoaxes of the past decade.

My “Sources” – are LOTS of people who have “Skin in the game” – who are REAL, NAMED, and have bet their reputations.

These are also people who do not universally agree on specifics – but they ALL agree
Iran has been set back Years, not months.

    5. #. That’s fine and the world can meet its deadline of 2030 for civilizations’ destruction. Great! Good news.

    6. ATS
So where is the link to the report ?

I do not give a Schiff what you or the MSM claim it says.
I am only interested in what it actually says.

Regardless, your claim seems Highly unlikely.

Lets Presume that Fordow was NOT destroy by the MOP’s
It is still inaccessible, and likely will be for many months.

Presuming that after several months of somehow secret digging, Iran manages to get back into an otherwise intact Fordow.
80-90% of the centrefuges are severaly damaged or destroyed. Centrefuges do not survive and uncontrolled sutdown,
and unless the iranians shut down the centrefuges at Fordow on their own prior to the power going out, \
Those centrefuges are now scrap metal.

Outside of Fordow most of the rest of Irans nuclear program has either been severely damaged or destroyed by the israelis.

Further a generation of Iran’s nuclear scientists have been killed.

So if Fordow somehow survived – that means Iran has enough 60% enriched uranium to make 6-7 nuclear bombs
That is if they can cobble together enough working centrefuges to do so, and they can find enough skilled scientests to run those centrefuges.

So lets presume that after about a year of digging out Fordow – again assuming it has not been destroyed – just made inaccessible, now you have 6 months to put together enough centrefuges to further refine that uranium to weapons grade.
Then you need to find living nuclear scientists to create the trigger, and you have to figure out ho to mate the bomb to one of Irans ICBM;s – presuming any still exist.

And you have to do all of this without anyone in the world noticing.

And that gets you 6+ nukes. To fully restart the program – that would take several more years.

But if Fordow has been destroyed – then Iran is essentially starting over from scratch.
If Fordow has been destroyed – they have few if any working centrifuges.
There stockpile of enriched uranium is gone.
Few of this current generation of nuclear scientists have survived.

And again restarting must be done under the wathcful eye of the world.

And all that presumes the current regime is not toppled.

Aside from the fact that resistance to the Ayatollah’s is at it speak, and the strenght of the regime is at its nadir,
Iran has just spent billions working towards nuclear weapons that are now gone.
That is going to piss off lots of people and further destabalize an already unstable country.

      This regime may survive.
      Fordow MIGHT have survived,
But Iran has likely been set back several years under the most optomistic scenario.

And they have to restart their program without getting caught.

Do you think Israel is not going to be paying very close attention ?

    7. Democrats keep calling this a war.
If that is so then leaking a DIA report is treason.
It is treason whether the report is true or not.
Even if this is not war it is a very serious violation of the espionage act.

It is a crime REGARDLESS of what the report may say.

This reporter is the same one who claimed that the IC had concluded that the Hunter Biden laptop was russian disinformation.

There is only one scenario in which this reporting is NOT evidence of a very serious crime – that is if the DIA report was NOT leaked.
And the reporter is just making schiff up. Unfortunately for our press that is most likely.

Israel has made public an assessment – they claim that Iran’s nuclear program has NOT been destroyed, but it has been set back for years.

Given there is no such thing as completely destroyed – Iran can always start over from the rubble and it is usually easier the 2nd time arround.
I suspect the Israeli’s are correct.

There is also reporting that Iran removed enriched Uranium and centrefuges from Fordow before the bombing.
But there is only so much they can do so fast
And there is other reporting saying Iran was moving things INTO Fordow as they beleives it was secure.

Right now we do not know.

But it is likely we will soon enough.

Open Source intelligence today is excellent and does not suffer from the problems of governent intelligence – deliberately spinning the intelligence to tell leaders what they wany to hear.

Trump very effectiely used open source intelligence in his first term – because with good reason he did not trust the “deep state”

Regardless I will make several “predictions”.

We will be able to tell if there was a leak – because someone will be arrested and jailed.
The only way that does not happen is if the story is a hoax.

We will know within a month the actual impact of these strikes.

Trump is downplaying regime change – understandably,
But I think there is more than a 50:50 chance in the next 6 months

Iran had massive economic problems Before this war.

Israel not only damaged Irans nuclear program, they severely damaged Irans oil infrastructure
And oil sales to china are the life blood of the Iranian theocracy.
Iran had 40% inflation prior to this war and was teetering on hyperinflation.

  10. I don’t know what time of day Turley actually posts, but this piece appears to be obsolete even before it was published because both sides continued exchanging bombs within hours of Trump’s lie about there being a “permanent ceasefire”. Trump is jonesing for the Nobel Peace Prize–all part of his malignant narcissism–because Obama received the prize. Trump claimed that Iran and Israel had agreed to a cease-fire before either side had publicly acknowledged doing so. This is just another failed diversion away from Trump’s long list of failures since taking office–the tariffs, the failed Big Beautiful Bill, the Elon Musk clown show, alienation of Canada, Mexico, threats to take over Greenland and Panama, the failed ICE raids… the list is long. The American public overwhelmingly opposes Trump’s little stunt of bombing Iran to pay back wealthy Jewish donors who want the US to fight Israel’s war with its Arab neighbors. So, instead of trying to get the hostages still being held released and getting food aid to starving Palestinians, Trump decides to bomb Iran, that did nothing to us. And, of course, one reason for targeting the alleged “nuclear sites” is to destroy evidence that Tulsi Gabbard was correct and Trump was wrong about how close Iran could have been to have enough material for a nuclear bomb. It probably still has enough material for a dirty bomb, and if Trump thinks that he has defeated the Iranians, he has another think coming. They will retaliate, and in ways we can’t necessarily foresee or prevent–like killing American tourists visiting other countries, activating sleeper agents, cyber attacks… the list is long. Of course, we wouldn’t be having this discussion if Trump had not torn up the Iran nuclear deal in place when he first took office. Another point–that dimwitted bottle blondie “press secretary” lied about Trump coining the phrase “peace through strength”–something that has been around for decades.

And, as usual, Turley tries to find a way to criticize Democrats over yet another Trump failure.

    1. I’ll alert the orderlies that you got out and are on the computer again. If you don’t struggle too much, you might still be allowed ice cream after dinner.

      1. Tom: NO ONE who writes to criticize Turley for his purchased punditry writes for the benefit of you MAGAts–you are a lost cause–deep into the cult of personality. Trump’s lies, his incompetences, his failures, the utter incompetence of those he put in charge of agencies just roll off your backs. So, your childish attempted insults are a waste of everyone’s time. You have NO facts with which to respond, so you do what your hero and MAGA media do–attempt to belittle people who write things you don’t like. As for today, the alleged “permanent ceasefire” lasted only a few hours. And, it is true that wealthy Jews did give Trump millions of dollars so that he would advocate for Israel. Excerpted from “The I Paper”, which is a British publication–The Biggest Campaign Donor You’ve Never Heard Of”:

“The Adelson family has long been one of the largest sources of campaign money for Republican candidates, and has backed Trump during the last three general elections. She and her husband were his top patrons in 2020 and many believe she will be again this year.

Dr Adelson, who has a history of backing pro-Israel organisations, enjoys a close relationship with Trump. During his presidency she implored him to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, according to the New York Times. She and her late husband then bought the ambassador’s former residence in Tel Aviv for $88m (£68m), making it more difficult to reverse the decision, the newspaper reported.

Trump made the move as part of his “Middle East peace plan”, despite a backlash from Palestinians who also consider Jerusalem to be their capital.

Dr Adelson has been contacted for comment.

Trump awarded her the Medal of Freedom in 2018, bestowing America’s highest civilian honour on her. At the time, the White House hailed Dr Adelson as a “committed doctor, philanthropist, and humanitarian.”

However critics, such as NBC’s Robert Schlesinger said the decision “perfectly captures the crassly transactional nature of Donald Trump and his presidency.” Paul Krugman of the New York Times called it an “insult to people who received the medal for genuine service.”

It has been rhetorically asked several times on this blog just HOW spending millions for moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem benefitted the American people–the fact is–it didn’t, but it did irritate non-Jews in the Middle East. It was a symbolic “in your face” to the Palestinian people, who consider Jerusalem their Capitol, too.

I’d also like to know why the Edelmans don’t donate money to The Fellowship of Christians and Jews who claim that needy former Holocaust survivors are starving–instead of giving Trump money to bolster Israel’s war against its Arab neighbors–something we’ll all pay for for years down the road. The bombing of Iran won’t go away–they WILL get even, one way or another.

        1. The bombing of Iran won’t go away….

          Alas no will you

🎶you really should have found a girl, settle down, if you want to you can get married, look at me, I am old but I’m happy 🎶

        2. You got out AGAIN? Sorry to tell you, but this time your ice cream privileges will be revoked for a week.

    2. Iran reopens Iranian airspace for commercial traffic as ceasefire holds.
Seems your comment was obsolete before you posted it.

    3. Wow. I was wondering how TDS sufferers would spin this incredible accomplishment to be a negative. Thanks for providing the answer.

      1. garyesq2k2: Explain just WHAT Iran did to the US to justify the backlash that will be coming. Explain WHY the US should get directly involved in the war Israel started with Iran and just HOW Americans can be safe when visiting anywhere outside the US. Anyway, like everything else about Trump, the bombing was a failure that he and MAGA media will lie about:

        From “CNN”:

“The US military strikes on three of Iran’s nuclear facilities last weekend did not destroy the core components of the country’s nuclear program and likely only set it back by months, according to an early US intelligence assessment that was described by four people briefed on it.

The assessment, which has not been previously reported, was produced by the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s intelligence arm. It is based on a battle damage assessment conducted by US Central Command in the aftermath of the US strikes, one of the sources said.

The analysis of the damage to the sites and the impact of the strikes on Iran’s nuclear ambitions is ongoing, and could change as more intelligence becomes available. But the early findings are at odds with President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the strikes “completely and totally obliterated” Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also said on Sunday that Iran’s nuclear ambitions “have been obliterated.”

Two of the people familiar with the assessment said Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium was not destroyed. One of the people said the centrifuges are largely “intact.”

“So the (DIA) assessment is that the US set them back maybe a few months, tops,” this person added.

The White House acknowledged the existence of the assessment but said they disagreed with it.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told CNN in a statement: “This alleged assessment is flat-out wrong and was classified as ‘top secret’ but was still leaked to CNN by an anonymous, low-level loser* in the intelligence community. The leaking of this alleged assessment is a clear attempt to demean President Trump, and discredit the brave fighter pilots who conducted a perfectly executed mission to obliterate Iran’s nuclear program. Everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000 pound bombs perfectly on their targets: total obliteration.”

The US military has said the operation went as planned and that it was an “overwhelming success.”

It is still early for the US to have a comprehensive picture of the impact of the strikes, and none of the sources described how the DIA assessment compares to the view of other agencies in the intelligence community. The US is continuing to pick up intelligence, including from within Iran as they assess the damage.”

*Talk about “losers”–she is the epitome. She performs every day for an audience of one. She has ZERO credibility.

        1. Imagine being so addled by Trump Derangement Syndrome that you’re actually rooting for the Iranian regime. You leftist nuts have really gone around the bend.

  11. Abraham Lincoln unconstitutionally deployed, and did not withdraw, the U.S. military in the territory of the Confederate States of America, causing the opening of hostilities in the Civil War on April 12, 1861, in the absence of a declaration of war by Congress.

Secession was and is not prohibited in and by the Constitution and was and is fully licit, legal, and constitutional.

Secession is an integral and binding part of the constitutional ratification documents of multiple states.

    1. Imagine if California left the US and Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Arkansas, Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee became even more shithole than they already are.

      1. CA is a failed state. More and more middle class people leave the failed state of CA for better states like TX and FL based off IRS data. We are also seeing a mass migration of the middle class to the South East as their lower taxes, less regulation then failed states like CA are more attractive than Blue states.
Outmigration cost California $24B in departed incomes as poorer people move in
“304 companies have left California since January 2019, according to the California Policy Center’s California Book of Exoduses, which tracks corporate exits from California.”

California says it lost $2 billion in state income taxes from earners leaving
“California narrowly balanced a $47 billion budget shortfall this year through a combination of spending cuts, shifts, deferrals, reserve withdrawals, and unofficial internal borrowing.”
        https://justthenews.com/nation/states/center-square/california-says-it-lost-2-billion-state-income-taxes-earners-leaving

We can also expect other Blue states like NY, IL, MD, DE, NJ to join the prestigious title of “failed state” like CA as they continue to lose middle class tax payers for other, better, Red states.

        1. True, but wait and see is extremely wealthy Asians and East Indians, Arabs move in. They’ll be less kind than the old environs . There’s a massive water problem in southern calif that should knock it back to uninhabitable as it was before the US developed it into concrete and asphalt. Mad max territory…

            1. They aren’t as kind as you. They have big bulldozers and don’t care what is buried.

      2. The California that ranks near the bottom for schools? The one with the highest poverty rate in the nation, the most homeless, the worst highways? The California that anyone with the opportunity is fleeing from? That California? It’s amazing how the leftist view of California is frozen in time, from before they took the controls and flew the state right into the ground.

        1. California’s GDP and per capita GDP blows all other states away. Look it up, Trumptard.

          1. Then why are people leaving – just like my state of NY – a mass exodus of those who can leave. NY and CA are sisters in their crimes against the nation and their unwavering adherence to failed progressive ideologies.

If you cannot se that I would wager that you want to remain willfully ignorant of your own ignorance because your cultish adherence to prog ideology won’t allow you a free thought – just continued regurgitation of old, worn out prog blather.

            1. whimsicalmama,
              Well said and correct.
From what I am reading, if socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the NYC mayor election, there are already a number of big companies who will leave NYC. More so than those who have already have.

          2. The failed state of CA also includes federal funding as part of their GDP. Look it up, retard.
Take those federal funds away, and the failed state of CA looks more like a third world country.
As I posted, all those middle class people leaving the failed state of CA while illegals come in, sucking ups CA tax dollars in social services.

      3. Imagine if the judicial branch enforced the Constitution and Bill of Rights, starting with the absolute 5th Amendment right to private property, free enterprise, free industries, and free markets.

    2. Abraham Lincoln unconstitutionally deployed, and did not withdraw, the U.S. military in the territory of the Confederate States of America, causing the opening of hostilities in the Civil War on April 12, 1861, in the absence of a declaration of war by Congress.

The Confederate slavers were firing on America’s merchant vessels LONG before that date and the date they pronounced themselves a separate slaver state, Kluxxer.

Chief Justice Rehnquist took the time to write a LONG book explaining how your actions were the ones violating the Constitution, Kluxxer. Given that you/George has proved your reading comprehension has never gotten beyond what you developed in kindergarten, Justice Rehnquist’s work and explanations may as well be laying on the surface of the moon as far as you’re concerned. 12. Not going to even acknowledge the troll comments. ‘Peace’ is likely a relative term in the middle East, but Trump has come closer to it than any other POTUS in at least 25 years. Many of the ‘dissenters’ weren’t even born then and can spare us their whining. Thank you for the piece, Professor Turley. I really do think sanity will prevail, in the end.

What we do with those lost and indoctrinated generations is anyone’s guess; Patty Hearst or the Manson family were much easier to isolate. We are looking at something much, much bigger, as elucidated by the election in New York. Time will tell, and we cannot rest on our laurels.

    1. What a stupid comment: “Trump has come closer to it than any other POTUS in at least 25 years.” Only a Trumptard would think Trump is a man of peace as he raises not a finger to stop the genocide in Gaza.

      1. Had Hamas not attacked Israel, there would be no war. The so-called “genocide in Gaza,” is nothing more than a far leftists propaganda to apologize for terrorists killing Jews.

        1. A genocide requires a unique genotype, and the region in question (e.g. Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, et al) have exprienced a tremendous amount of genetic drift. There is no genocide occuring in that region. OTOH, Christians are being slaughtered by the thousands in militant Islamic regions like Nigeria

Over 50,000 Christians killed in Nigeria by Islamist extremists

According to the report “Martyred Christians in Nigeria” issued by Intersociety, over the past 14 years at least 52,250 Nigerian Christians have been brutally murdered at the hands of Islamist militants

          https://www.vaticannews.va/en/church/news/2023-04/over-50000-christians-killed-in-nigeria-by-islamist-extremists.html

Not a word of complaint nor a word of defense from the irreligious Left Democrats/MSM

          1. #. They mean cultural genocide because many Jewish people immigrated to Israel spoiling the pure culture of “Palestine”. It’s an incorrect use of genocide. Cultural supplant as in UK, and the EU which is ok. 😉

      2. My husband, who lived in Israel throughout the intifada, knows, full well, the depraved heart and mind of an islamist. There may be approximate deals for peace. Trump has come closer than anyone to mollifying these hate-motivated islamist, but, in the end, no peace has EVER BEEN achieved by any civilized nation dealing with any islalmic state. The goal of that militaristic ideology that masquerades as a religion, is total world domination and therein lies the base line for dealing with these thugs. They must be totally contained and not allowed to function within the civilized world. How the civilized world deals with a problem that has bedeviled the world since 570 is another matter, but it will need be done because there will be no peace as long as there is islam.

      3. In reality Gaza is a town , a city in Israel. The Gazans can stop it any day they choose.

      4. The genocide of Gaza? That’s hilarious. A population that keeps growing is a pretty strong refutation of moronic claims of genocide.

  13. The War Powers Act of 1973, also known as the War Powers Resolution, is entirely unconstitutional in its usurpation and exercise of executive and military power, for which the legislative branch enjoys and is provided no power.

Congress has the power to declare war.

Congress has the power to impeach the president.

The President, solely and exclusively, has the power to command the military.

The President, solely and exclusively, is vested with the executive power.
