Escape from New York: Democrats Embrace Socialist for New Mayor

The presumptive selection (pending the results of New York’s ranked-voting system) of Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani as the Democratic nominee has sent shockwaves throughout the business and political establishment. For those calling for the party to move more to the center, New Yorkers just responded with a Bronx cheer by choosing a socialist who wants city-run grocery stores, an eleven-percent city corporate tax rate, free child care, free buses, and other far-left wish list items.  Real estate in Florida is about to skyrocket.

Mamdani has said that he intends to make New York a “model for the Democratic Party” by moving to the far left and embracing socialist policies. Despite being called anti-Israel, Mamdani crushed Andrew Cuomo with young college-educated voters.

Mamdani has advanced a decidedly anti-police agenda:

He also has a full panoply of progressive promises, including to pay for freezing rents, providing free child care, and other programs by “taxing the rich.” It is a return to the “eat the rich” calls of figures from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) to former mayor Bill de Blasio.

Politicians have long turned to the “Eat the rich!” battle cry when things are not working out politically or economically. When struggling in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) pledged a wealth taxdeclaring that she was coming after “the diamonds, the yachts, and the Rembrandts too.” Then-New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, another Democratic contender at the time, was barely registering in the polls when he promised that “we will tax the hell out of the wealthy.”

The election also reinforces the opposition of many to the move to restore the state and local tax (SALT) deductions, which forces taxpayers in low-tax states to subsidize residents in high-tax states, such as California and New York. By allowing the deductions, politicians can assure New Yorkers that they will receive some of the money back from the rest of the country through deductions, justifying even higher tax hikes. I have long opposed SALT deductions as a uniquely bad idea.

The question is whether wealthy individuals and corporations will accelerate the exit from New York in light of continued support for increasing tax burdens and public subsidies.

Eric Adams could still prevail over Mamdani as an independent in the general election. Cuomo has also not ruled out an independent run. However, the results of the election show the increasing hold of socialist politics on many New Yorkers.

  1. American politicians only have one job: to represent the voters interests within the legal boundaries of the U.S. Constitution.

Sounds like this mayor is following Richard Nixon promoting Universal Healthcare (way more socialized plan than Obamacare) or Dwight D. Eisenhower building the interstate road system.

Why doesn’t Congress give tax cuts to truck drivers, welders, plumbers, mechanics and working class folks? These working class folks spend the money immediately boosting economic development.

By socializing tax cuts for the wealthiest 1/10 of 1% – that socialism does little to boost the economy. Give the tax cuts to the working class folks!

    1. Letting someone keep more of what they’ve earned is now socialism? I learn something new every day from our trolls.

    2. “Giving” tax cuts is twisting the reality that it isn’t the government’s money to start with. “Reducing” the amount of money that the government is confiscating is more accurate.

    3. By socializing tax cuts for the wealthiest 1/10 of 1% – that socialism does little to boost the economy. Give the tax cuts to the working class folks!

They already did… also known as Trump’s tax cuts – which commie Democrats are trying to prevent being made permanent.

B there it is: the war cry of the Democrat commies… “The Rich Don’t Pay Their Fair Share”. The bellow of commies who don’t have the first clue of what percentage of all income taxes collected are from that Evil Wealthiest 1/10 of 1% pay already. Nor can they tell anyone who asks them what that percentage should be instead. The same Evil Rich that got a far smaller tax cut than the lowest working class folks (you can’t give the working class who already pay 0% any more of a tax cut)

  2. THE SINGULAR AMERICAN FAILURE IS THE JUDICIAL BRANCH, WITH EMPHASIS ON THE SUPREME COURT.
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Zohran Mamdani is a communist, and communism is unconstitutional, which the judicial branch must have decided long ago.

Start here: The absolute 5th Amendment right to private property shall not be denied.

Karl Marx: “The theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property.”

Under the U.S. Constitution, only the owner of private property, such as a grocery store, has the power to “claim and exercise” dominion.

Only the owner has the power to establish the business model.

Only the owner has the power to set wages and prices.
    ____________________________________________________________

“[Private property is] that dominion which one man claims and exercises over the external things of the world, in exclusion of every other individual.”

    – James Madison

    1. The Supreme Court must have held long ago that only the owner of New York rental property has the power to set rental prices and to “claim and exercise” dominion.

The Supreme Court agreed with and supported Karl Marx and the Communist Manifesto and denied and did not support the “manifest tenor” of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

      1. THE COMMUNIST SUPREME COURT MUST BE IMPEACHED EN MASSE FORTHWITH AND BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!
        __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

“…courts…must…declare all acts contrary to the manifest tenor of the Constitution void.”

“…men…do…what their powers do not authorize, [and] what they forbid.”
        _______________________________________________________________________________

“[A] limited Constitution … can be preserved in practice no other way than through the medium of courts of justice, whose duty it must be to declare all acts contrary to the manifest tenor of the Constitution void. Without this, all the reservations of particular rights or privileges would amount to nothing … To deny this would be to affirm … that men acting by virtue of powers may do not only what their powers do not authorize, but what they forbid.”

        – Alexander Hamilton

    2. THE SINGULAR AMERICAN FAILURE IS THE JUDICIAL BRANCH, WITH EMPHASIS ON THE SUPREME COURT.

THE SINGULAR AMERICAN FAILURE IS THE PERMISSION VOTERS HAVE GIVEN THE COMMUNIST POLICE STATE FASCIST DEMOCRATS TO CONTINUE TO EXIST

BTW, speak up louder next time, Commie George. And tell us your views on how James Madison would have regarding you and your fellow communist police state fascist Democrats.

    3. We lost that fight long ago, didn’t we? For most of my adult life, I have opposed suggestions that we should convene a Convention to amend the Constitution, on the grounds of how much worse on individual Liberty the document produced by such a convention could be. The COVID tyranny and subsequent events have changed my POV to one asking “what would we have to lose?”

Martial Law In Mascara: How FDR Hijacked The Constitution And No One Told You
      https://www.zerohedge.com/political/martial-law-mascara-how-fdr-hijacked-constitution-and-no-one-told-you

“No, the Constitution wasn’t officially suspended in 1933. But it was gagged, blindfolded, and tied to a chair while the federal government handed itself sweeping emergency powers and redefined “freedom” into a kind of bureaucratic improv comedy routine.”

Yes, I know that the usurpation began long before 1933, but FDR’s actions were a (arguably *the*) seminal event in its degradation.

  3. Once we established in the 1930’s, and re-affirmed in the 1960’s, that the primary objective of government is to transfer money from one group to another group, we set ourselves on a road to financial ruin.

    1. Karl Marx and the United States Supreme Court established the “transference of money,” redistribution of wealth, through their slogan,

“From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.”

  4. How to define this insanity: is it hysteria or hysterical, the joke is on the naïve plebes who would vote for this non-sense. When a politician say’s come on over its free, they are no better than a Carnival Barker saying knock them over and win this great big stuffed bear. My suggestion to the investors of all NYC’s bonds is to be very cautious the City may not be as lucky as in 1975.

    George W

  5. The only question left is how long will it take NY to become Venezuela or Cuba. These policies just make everyone poor except the few in government. As a political refugee from Cuba from the 1960s, I thought I would never see this in the USA. This is a product of the long march through our institutions. You can see what they are teaching our kids. And don’t come to Florida. We are full.

    1. Why not apply the Constitution and Bill of Rights correctly and retake and recapture all states from communism through proper adjudication?

  6. Dear Mr. Turley, I am not sure where the comment came from regarding “blue states” supporting the “red states”? Here in Illinois, the Dem. governor, along with his super majority of democrats have passed the largest tax hike in the state’s history. Illinois has no money to pass on to their neighbors, “red” Indiana or “red” Iowa. The state is in deep debt. One may ask where the increased tax money is going? Sorry to say, it is going to bail out the Chicago Public School System. Democrats always protect their own and act morally righteous when questioned about it.

  7. New York Democrats (Socialist) are creating a deeper chasm between ‘Have and Have Nots’ that rivals Mexico (If the Shoe fits, wear it). For that matter, they are driving America into a state of ‘Have and Have Nots’. As goes N.Y., so goes the Country.
Current Mayor Eric Adams has had his problems, but nothing will compare to Zohran Mamdani’s rein. AOCs going to have to do a lot of sideshows to cover-up the mess this Guy is going to create.

“The Delaware Way”* (Coined by: David C. Weiss, U.S. Attorney for Delaware) has its twin in the “New York Way”.
The Democrats has co-opted the corrupt deep-seeded and systemic methods of “The Way”, as recent history proved The United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York office is deep in the bedlam of political Witch Hunting. I seem to recall Hillary Clinton being a Senator from N.Y. at the time of the Millennium. None the less, they have Senator Charles Schumer and Representative Dan Goldman minding the store now, So it’s business as usually for the Empire State.
…”The *Empire* State” musing isn’t it. Who will rise to be the next Caesar of Corruption?

    Re.:
    * “The Delaware Way”

“The Delaware Way” is a term used to describe a certain political culture and approach to governance in Delaware. It’s often associated with:

Bipartisanship and compromise: A willingness among political figures to work across the aisle to address issues and reach solutions for the benefit of the state’s residents.

A “club-like” or “insiderish” approach: Some perceive it as a system where personal connections and relationships play a significant role in government and determining who holds positions of power, according to Delaware LIVE News.

Civility and cooperation: The emphasis on respectful discussion and collaboration among political opponents, even when there are strong disagreements, notes Bay to Bay News.

Influence of corporate interests: Delaware’s status as a major center for corporate registration means that the “Delaware Way” can also be seen as reflecting the interests of the business community, says The Intercept.

    David C. Weiss’ Connection

Former U.S. Attorney: David C. Weiss served as the United States Attorney for the District of Delaware, having been nominated by former President Donald Trump and retained by President Joe Biden. He served until January 17, 2025. He resigned as both U.S. attorney and special counsel on that date.

Special Counsel: He was later appointed as the special counsel in the investigation into Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son.
“Embodiment of ‘soft corruption'”: In a pre-sentencing memo related to a case involving businessman Christopher Tigani, Weiss described Tigani as the “embodiment of the ‘Delaware Way,’ a concept described uniformly by the defendant and others as a form of soft corruption, intersecting business, and political interests, which has existed in this State for years,” according to the Washington Examiner. This suggests that Weiss, as a federal prosecutor in Delaware, has been involved in cases where “The Delaware Way” has been cited, even in a critical context, notes Politico.

Known for independence: Despite being appointed by Trump and retained by Biden, Weiss is known for his independent, non-partisan approach to his work as a prosecutor, states The Washington Post. He is seen as someone who follows the facts regardless of who is involved.

Influence: As the top federal prosecutor in Delaware, Weiss has significant influence, particularly in his oversight of the Hunter Biden investigation.

In summary, “The Delaware Way” encompasses various aspects of Delaware’s political and social culture, with David C. Weiss, in his role as a prominent federal prosecutor, having both been involved in cases that have referenced it and having himself described it, even in a critical way, according to the Washington Examiner. His recent tenure as both U.S. attorney and Special Counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation has brought his work into the national spotlight, with some highlighting his connection to the Biden family and the state of Delaware.

Reminder: [and this of all things was published in Politico (a left sided pub.)]
Hunter Biden’s prosecutor rejected moves that would have revealed probe earlier
Veteran U.S. attorney David Weiss, known for his willingness to take on powerful Delaware figures, kept his investigation into Biden’s son out of the 2020 campaign.

  8. Ranked choice elections, are like participation trophy’s and are what has kept the democratic party in power in California. People also claim that it is the 5th largest economy however they fail to look at the unfunded liabilities, $1.5 trillion (https://www.thecentersquare.com/california/article_b77e67bc-e842-11ec-ba2b-83e39b9717cd.html), so is it and has it been well run? Kind of like the federal government that has been run so poorly with it’s $37 trillion in debt. In addition look at the percentages of homeless, drug addicts and barely making it. I as a native Californian for 65 of my 75 years remember when this was not the case.

    1. CA doesn’t have ranked choice elections. They are full of elected people like Newsom and Bass. Next couple of elections will hopefully show citizens have had enough of DEM rule!

    2. California, the only state with two democrats and no republicans running for U.S. Senate when Harris ran.
      __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

      AI Overview

That is correct, in the 2016 US Senate election in California, Kamala Harris, a Democrat, ran against another Democrat, Loretta Sanchez, in the general election.

  9. “The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”
    Margaret Thatcher

Large Corporations and businesses are rarely as some like to depict them. They are publicly traded, governed by a board and lead by a C.E.O. Investors are often individuals, retirement funds, and others..not a robber baron.

The board has a responsibility to deliver a healthy return of investment to its shareholders. They are not typically (in the manner of Doctor Evil) “evil.”

Why would a corporation or business remain in a hostile environment that taxes them into oblivion? They will move the first chance they get.

Regarding individuals, New York, like many cities around the world, can be insanely expensive. If a person has worked their whole life to save up enough to retire, they cannot typically afford to spend more. I meet a lot of New Yorkers who have moved away for that exact reason.

If businesses and business infrastructure moves south, the tax base diminishes and more burden is placed on individuals and businesses that remain. Eventually, like two lines that are skewed, the day of reckoning will arrive and it will not be pretty.

Apply home economics to the equation and the “family” is on the road to going broke. What to do? The hard socialist and communists will turn towards seizing personal property and assets.

Just like the old story about boiling a frog when it is done slowly, this road of pain comes in little steps and stages.

We have (as my father used to say) “a champagne appetite and a beer income.”

  10. It’s quite entertaining to see how Professor Turley talks about the surprising outcome of the New York mayoral race. So what if a Democratic Socialist won? Bernie Sanders is also a Democratic Socialist. What Mamdani is suggesting is just a set of ideas. It’s not different from Trump’s promises, like claiming he would end the Ukraine war or lower inflation right away. We saw that those didn’t happen. Mamdani’s statements are just political talk meant to attract voters, much like many politicians, including Trump, do. Remember the talk about the big beautiful wall? It’s not being built, and Texas has quietly stopped funding it.

Why did Mamdani win by such a large margin? It’s largely due to Trump and his unsuccessful policies. He hasn’t followed through on his promises, and his handling of government agencies has left them struggling to rehire staff that were let go. The savings he promised haven’t materialized, and many people view Elon Musk as a disappointment. The economy isn’t getting better either. Trump has faced legal defeats in various cases, and his efforts against Iran haven’t produced clear benefits. Bombing Iran didn’t help verify if their nuclear program was hindered; in fact, it may have just strengthened their resolve to pursue it.

The hysteria around Democratic Socialists often comes from a misunderstanding among some people on the right. They struggle to differentiate between socialism, Marxism, Communism, and even Nazism, often mixing everything up based on their feelings in the moment. It’s quite a sight to behold. This shows a strong cognitive dissonance, and it seems Turley either intentionally fuels this confusion or is simply unaware of what he’s saying.

    1. ( a Democratic Socialist) is not the same as a radical islamist democratic socialist… A lethal combination for individual citizens and the rest of America. NYC will become London in no short time and we all see how that islamic unassimilated crowd has destroyed one of the greatest cities ever known.

I find it difficult to understand just how so many progs are so ignorant of their ignorance of history. All you talk about are theories stemming from wrong-headed, equally ignorant academics and pundits who tell you what to believe in order to keep the big grift going and you, of little discretionary intellect, eat it all up and spew the putrid results all over the internet.

      1. Whimsicalmama, you’re just assuming he’s a “radical muslim” because of his name and religion. Meaning you’re quite the ignorant bigot.

What’s wrong with London? It’s still a vibrant international city. It’s your ignorance that is in full display. That’s why you find it difficult to understand. Because you can’t grasp complex issues. Everything needs to be simplified for you. Anything more it’s some sort of conspiracy or plot by whatever flavor of socialist you dream up.

Academics are supposed to explore theories and test them. That’s their purpose. Just because some are way smarter than you doesn’t mean they are out to get you silly. They are not out to make you look stupid either. It’s the republican political machine that is telling YOU what to think and you are buying it like there’s no tomorrow.

          1. How cute. London is no longer a manufacturing hub. It’s a financial hub like NY. Land is incredibly expensive and they are still building infrastructure and housing. It’s harder for the less wealthy to live there because the ultra wealthy are driving prices higher. Just like NY. London is also a huge tourist hub where people still go to see the city for what it is an international destination.

            1. Yeah, it’s a certainty that destroying an industrialized Nation’s industry base is not unique to the Brits.

I suppose then it’s the tourists who are living on the side walks and underneath the bridges since it’s so expensive there and all, or perhaps there’s no vacancy if they housed all of their illegal aliens in the five star hotels.

              Could explain it I guess.

              -Oddball

            2. And you have no personal liberty, crime is rampant and the British culture is being replaced by ignorant savages that run pedophile rings and freedom of speech no longer exists. If you want a mini-Iran, you’ve got it in London and soon in NYC.

I find it hard to believe someone can be as stupid as you consistently sound – you must be a badly programmed bot.

            3. OOPS another lost.

            5. What were you saying about London george

              Telegraph
London’s crime epidemic ‘is scaring away tourists’

Interview: PPHE Hotels chief Greg Hegarty says robbery and theft rates are hurting the capital.
So yeah it’s just like LA & NY

            6. Despite the wealth of NYC one can divide up the income levels into population groups.
              ⅓ low income
              ⅓ middle income
              ⅓ his income

        1. What’s wrong with London? It’s still a vibrant international city.
          *************
Not if you are a Jew. You have for gotten the last few years in London.
Plus the bad guys just love knives. Shall we bring up the rap- s of young girls.

        2. “”Academics are supposed to explore theories and test them.”

Yes, but they are not meant to test them on entire populations. When a business theory fails in practice, the businessman is fired. When an academic theory fails, despite measurable harm, even death, the academic is often promoted. This pattern isn’t lost on most people. Can you now see why so many view your rhetoric as incompetent and dangerously foolish?

    2. Hmm, now lemme see here…

      Socialists, are socialists. Check.

      Democrat Socialists, are socialists. Check

      Marxist Socialism, is socialism. Check

Communists, or Marxist-Leninist Socialism, are socialists. Check.

Nazi, or (NSDAP), National Socials German Workers Party, are socialists. Check.

…You left out Maoism, or Maoist-Socialist, who are Socialists. Check.

Not complicated. I would say, the struggle as it were, seems to fall under the category of admission and denial, rather than confusion.

      -Oddball

      1. Nope, it’s just confusion and a refusal to learn that there is a difference between Democratic socialism and Marxists, Communists, and Maoists.

Come to think of it Mao was anti-intellectual just like the current MAGA crowd. They have more in common with Mao than the Founding Fathers. China owes its existence to Mao, BUT, they no longer adhere to his anti-intellectual philosophy. They have largely discarded that idea which is why they are embracing it and using it to advance their society far beyond ours. They may still be communist but they certainly learned how to integrate capitalism with their communist ideas and morphed it into something more sustainable.

        1. “[T]here is a difference between Democratic socialism and Marxists, Communists, and Maoists.”

If you focus on the essentials, and on the destructive results, there is in fact *no* difference.

Tyranny of the majority and tyranny of the few are — tyranny.

Incidentally, your “democratic socialists” voted Hitler into power.

        2. “it’s just confusion and a refusal to learn that there is a difference between Democratic socialism and Marxists, Communists, and Maoists. ”

Some of the details may differ, but the essence is identical. All are collectivist systems designed to extort from those who show enough intelligence, initiative, and ambition to prosper, and use their rightfully earned money to coerce votes form those who are unable or unwilling to do the same. And of, course, to allow those pulling the State strings to siphon off enough of that money to become very wealthy, and maintain virtually absolute power over everything and everyone else.

    3. OOOOOOOOO yeah george running a government food store.
You and this moron should try reading up on Russia & Cuba. They tried the same game, and blew it.

    4. Everything you just stated is a bit non-factual! First of all as of today 6-25-2025 Inflation is down from when Trump took office, is it at 2% yet, now, but it is heading in that direction. Gas has for sure gone down! I am a consumer who grocery shops and fills up my gas tank, I know for a fact I am paying less as I am a budgeter! I am always saving for a “treat”! You are apparently a CNN supporter, too many are reporting just the opposite of what you and they are saying about the potential Nuke’s in Iran, especially the EI agency! Let me remind you that Trump has only been in office since January 20th-5 months right???? He and his admin are moving at lightening speed too bad Congress cant! And last but least, you can take your support of Demonrat Socialism with you to another country! This might happen to NY but it isn’t going to happen Nationwide, ever and oh on more thing thanks for the laugh I had today “Turley is simply unaware of what he’s saying” really????

    5. Socialists are immune to experimental results. Socialism has failed everywhere and every time it’s been tried, because it separates the rewards of working from the effort of working. If you can get the rewards without working, why work?

When the Pilgrims arrived in 1620, they were organized as a commonwealth, meaning the rewards of everyone’s work were shared among all of the people, regardless of who did the work. After a year of starvation, they reorganized into private enterprise, with the rewards of work going to the individual worker. Food was plentiful after that.

These results have been duplicated time after time. Private enterprise has proven to be the best economic organization invented so far for enriching society. Socialism has proven to be destructive always. The only reason it’s still popular is that it promises “free” rewards with no work. But that promise is always false.

    6. It’s quite entertaining to see how Professor Turley talks about the surprising outcome of the New York mayoral race.

George, nobody is surprised that New York elected yet another virtue signalling, police state fascist Democrat to be Mayor. You hope we forgot Bill DiBlasio, while you lie that we were “surprised” in order to start your regular non sequitur BBBBBBUUUTTTTT…. MUH TRUMPPP!!!!?

  11. Make “Escape From New York” a documentary before it’s too late. Gangrene spreads quickly.

  12. Just the other day I was saying how other Blue states will have the distinction of joining the failed state of CA in the “failed state” status. NY was already on the way down. Now, if this socialist wins and becomes mayor, we just might see how much faster NY fails. Could prove to be a warning for everyone else.

      1. That’s a perfect example of “saying the quiet part out loud.” When Stuart Smalley did it, he was funny. You would be wise to keep your self-assessments to yourself.

    1. Failed state? NY and CA are some of the wealthiest states in the union. CA has the 5th biggest economy in the world. It’s so wealty it’s federal tax dollars are supporting the poorest states which are predominantly Republican. If NY and CA withheld their federal tax dollars Red states would be in trouble. They would no longer be able to have their no-income-tax policies and their school voucher programs. They wouldn’t be able to pay for a natural disaster on their own either even a small one.

      1. NY is doing so great they are losing 3 members of congress every ten years as FL gains 3. NY has gone from having a larger population than Florida to training by about 4 million. Plus the people leaving NY have money while the illegals are the ones moving to the state.

CA has the most poverty and homelessness BY far.

        1. NY and CA have the biggest homeless populations because the price of housing is astronomical. Who is driving the high housing costs? The rich.

The states with the poorest populations are still run by blood red Republicans. Because there isn’t enough economic growth and wealth to justify high housing costs.

Fun fact. Florida has the third highest homeless population in the nation. Because of the rising housing costs just like in CA and NY.

          1. housing is astronomical.
            ********************
Who made that happen. george has no idea why that is happening…. Jezz what a fool.
Look at how many homes that were burned out and how have permits to rebuild.

          2. You should stop now, you have more than proven your considerable lack of IQ points. It’s getting boring at this point to have to scroll through your blatherings.

          3. The irresponsible and ignorant don’t know the truth; they just talk. So it is with George, the leading mouthpiece of the ignorati. California and New York have many times the number of homeless people compared to Florida. When it comes to homelessness, they are in the stratosphere.

Florida, with its warm climate, should attract more homelessness, but it doesn’t. In fact, it remains well below the national average: 14 homeless per 10,000 people, compared to the U.S. average of 23.

Facts matter, but not to the ignorati. Let that be a warning: if George says it, it’s probably untrue.

          4. Actually, Florida have the fourth largest homeless population, not third, according to U.S. News & World Report.

            https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/articles/states-with-the-most-homeless-people

In fact, out of the Top 10 states that have the largest homeless population, only one other state (besides Florida) is a Rep-led, Red state (Texas in 6th place). The rest, all Dem-led, true Blue states, But it’s understandable for you not knowing that. Because reality have a conservative bias. And it’s all because Trump turn (modern-day) liberals’ brains into mush. Classical liberals, not so much. 🙂

“California’s Legislative Analyst’s Office says the state lost approximately $2.3 billion in state personal income taxes due to outmigration in the 2022-2023 fiscal year. With Newsom claiming the state’s population grew in 2023, the net decrease in taxpayers and taxpayer dependents for fiscal year 2022-2023 suggests California could be losing productive individuals and their families as it gains non-tax-filers.”

Outmigration cost California $24B in departed incomes as poorer people move in
“304 companies have left California since January 2019, according to the California Policy Center’s California Book of Exoduses, which tracks corporate exits from California.”

The failed state of CA includes Federal funding in it’s GDP. Strip that out and it looks more like a third world country.

George, your Soviet Democrat beliefs in what wealthy states look like is all everybody should need to realize that allowing communists like you to have control of an economy is just a slow form of suicide.

  13. Has it been considered that the drift of the electorate toward favoring socialism in cities like New York and Chicago is being driven by the never ending increase in state and local taxes that result in making places like NYC unaffordable for the working class? It sure is beginning to look that way. If the government confiscates so much of your paycheck, where else can one turn, other than to support politicians who profess to take other people’s money to improve your lot. If the continuous increase in state and local taxes has been done surreptitiously, and by design, to feed the electorate to support socialism, that would be pretty diabolical, and even politically ingenious. The problem, however, is that socialism never ends well, especially when other people’s money runs out, or the “other people” leave.

    1. We already have socialist programs that are incredibly successful. SS, Medicare are Socialist programs. The military is socialist and even authoritarian in its structure.

There are plenty of socialist countries that have successful programs that have shown them to be better than what we have.

      1. I paid into SS for my entire working life while idiots like you want some 20 year old guy that arrived here from Mexico last month to receive it.

        1. Hullbobby, that 20 year old from Mexico IS paying for YOUR SS. You didn’t know that?

Even illegal immigrants pay taxes when the the IRS gives them tax ID numbers so they can file taxes. They cannot get the benefits, but they can certainly pay into the system. They even pay into Medicare and medicaid.

That 20 year old will never get the benefits, but your SS is guaranteed because he paid into it. Be grateful for his work paying for YOUR retirement.

          1. george
Hullbobby, that 20 year old from Mexico IS paying for YOUR SS. You didn’t know that?
LIAR… Like most illegals. They work under the table and the cities (blue) give them EBT.
Have you NOT paid any attention on what is going on in NY.

            1. George: Hullbobby, that 20 year old from Mexico IS paying for YOUR SS. You didn’t know that?
              LIAR…

LIAR, GEORGE – ONE REASON YOUR CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS WORK TO GET PAID UNDER THE TABLE WHEN THEY CAN’T MAKE THEIR LIVING AS MS-13 THUGS IS THEY DON’T HAVE ANY PAY DEDUCTIONS,/b>

You keep making the same sophomoric mistake of believing we are just as stupid and uneducated as you and your fellow Soviet Democrat communists are.

          2. How can they pay my SS when it is illegal for them to work? The ones that do work, and good for them for working, usually work UNDER THE TABLE and then send the money back “home”. So no, they are not paying my SS.

How much does it cost us to house them, feed them, educate them, take care of them in ERs, to police them, to represent them in court along with actual court costs? If illegals were good for an economy every country on earth would encourage illegal immigration…and yet they don’t. You are a fool.

            1. HullBobby,
Well said and spot on. Had a co-worker who was having a house built. The building company would charge him as if they had six real carpenters employed building his house at a real carpenter wage. What they actually had was six unskilled illegals, getting paid cash under the table but at a third the pay. Then there was one actual carpenter who got paid to supervise over six job sites. Once the house was finished, there was a half inch gap under the front door, a hole in the wall behind a mirror, one internal doorway was not square and the stop that prevented the top rack of the dishwasher was not there.

          3. Can we trust anything George says? Of course not. I looked total costs up awhile back in many different fashions and all the searches of illegal immigrant result in approximately the following

            Illegal immigrants
            put in $100 Billion
            Take out $150 Billion

For a net loss of $50 Billion to the country.

            Don’t trust George.

      2. If they are so successful, why are they bleeding this nation dry with ever-increasing taxes. Are you as ignorant as AOC and just think that “the government” will pay for it; all the while too ignorant to realize that the government doesn’t create money or wealth, it just fleeces it from its citizens or prints fiat currency that deflates the value of the dollar. I do wish ignoramuses would stop spouting insane ideas and think they are bright ideas.

      3. I would ask you to discuss those countries in depth, if you could, but we all know you can’t.

      4. Is this your definition of “incredibly successful?”
Social Security’s insolvency date is now a year earlier.
“Social Security is on track to deplete its trust funds by 2034, one year sooner than previously forecast,
when the federal retirement program will be required to cut monthly benefits by about 20%.”
        https://www.cbsnews.com/news/social-security-trustees-report-2025-insolvency-when-will-benefits-cut/

The wife and I have been planning our retirement without SS being there. And even if it were, it will be a pittance of what I have paid into it. Had I taken those monies, put them in ETFs, index funds, commodities, I could of retired by now.

  14. “. . . New Yorkers just responded with a Bronx cheer by choosing a socialist . . .” (JT)

Aw, c’mon all you naysayers. Give socialism a chance.

It’s only had 100 years of mass death (hundreds of millions), universal oppression, and economic devastation.

This time it’ll be different — because new faces.

  15. The rich in New York City currently play at the 37% top income tax rate + 3.8% Medicare tax + 10.9% top NY state tax + 3.876% top NYC tax or a grand total of 55.576 percent of their marginal income.

New York has already eaten the rich. Mamdani want’s to grind down their bones to make bread for his government-run supermarkets.

    1. NY has always has a large tax for the wealthiest. They won’t leave NY anytime either. NYC is the financial hub of the country and they will never leave it. The filthy rich won’t go bankrupt if they pay a little extra. They will always have the advantage of tax loopholes in their federal filings.

The funny part is is seems they have so much money that they don’t know what to do with it other than pay themselves more thru stock buybacks instead of investing back into their own companies. It seems they make so much money that they need a tax break from making so much money by forcing the poor to do without healthcare.

      1. George’s commentary is a textbook example of silly rhetoric masquerading as analysis. He speaks frequently but fails to substantiate even his most basic claims. When offering proof, he inundates the discussion with shallow statistics and flimsy logic. Fortunately, most readers are far more discerning than George and see through the pretense.

        1. S. Meyer,
That is why with simple and easy searches I clearly debunk just about everything he claims. Like companies not leaving NYC.

      2. “. . . other than pay themselves more thru stock buybacks instead of investing back into their own companies.”

You have a singular talent for ignorance (and deception).

A stock buyback is a corporate, not an individual, event — as in: Apple (not Tim Cook) buys back $100 billion of its own stock. If it works out, a buyback *is* a long-term investment in the company.

  16. Isn’t the guy they elected mayor mooslim?
NYC is about to get it good & hard, in more ways than one!

  17. I could give a toss if NYC is intent on destroying itself – we stopped visiting years ago. More concerning is the fallout for the rest of the country from such a wealthy and populous state when things go south on many different levels. The madness may not stay confined to the coasts in the future, and we really have to be clear about that. The overconfidence of some in this regard isn’t amusing to me; it’s troubling.

And there is *no* way someone so young, a citizen for only seven years, and with a mere five years of government experience, ascended to the mayorship of our most prominent city organically. This all stinks.

    1. “ And there is *no* way someone so young, a citizen for only seven years, and with a mere five years of government experience, ascended to the mayorship of our most prominent city organically. This all stinks.”

Why is that so hard to believe?

Obama became president when nobody though a black man could become president for a few more years.

Alexandra Ocasio Cortez became a congresswoman when she was just a lowly bartender.

You do know that NYC is a hugely diverse city where Muslims, Jews, Christians and all kinds of people from different nationalities live, right?

NY has always been predicted to “go south” for years when in reality it’s been growing more. They are still building high rises, and new infrastrucure is being built to support the growth. As long as money is being made there by the financial firms and the worlds’s best known stock exchange exists NY will always be a hub for the ultra rich and wealthy.

      1. george
Obama became president when nobody though a black man could become president for a few more years.
Look at the mess he left. Remember them green jobs that failed, even with all the O-dumber bucks he gave away.
The started a war in Libya with turned that country into a (black) slave trader nation. Just think I took a black prez to put blacks in chains again.

      2. @George

My family has had a home in NY state for many decades. I have spent a great deal of time in Manhattan. It’s where I met my wife, who is a naturalized citizen from another culture and country. The rest of your comment is not worth addressing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      3. George posted: Obama became president when nobody though a black man could become president for a few more years.

Alexandra Ocasio Cortez became a congresswoman when she was just a lowly bartender.

Obama is a dark skinned Kenyan-American mulatto, not a single drop of black American blood running through his veins and hadn’t accomplished a single thing in his very brief time in politics before being annointed president. And he only got elected after he dropped his life of entitled White Privilege he had up until he entered politics to run instead as a po’ black chil’ who worked his way out of the ghetto. Had Obama’s skin looked just like his Mom’s, they would never have considered running him for president.

And Sandy Cortez, who now calls herself Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, would never have gotten elected if she looked anything remotely like Maxine Waters or an olive colored Amy Klobachaer and had to run on something more than having a great tight ass and tits along with the perfect c*cksucker’s mouth. Her thought processes may be a credit to communism, but they’re an embarrassment to human DNA.

Reality bites, George. Hoping nobody notices while you primp and prance after arriving here in your Democrat Communist Clown Car isn’t going to work.
