The Denver City Council has voted unanimously to shutter a highly successful anti-theft auto license plate tracking system. The system was not closed due to concerns about privacy or finances. It was shut down because Democratic members believed that ICE could use the data to deport illegals.
In May, the council refused to renew the $666,000 contract with Flock for camera monitors around 70 Denver intersections to screen for car theft. That system resulted in the recovery of 170 stolen cars and 300 arrests. It is also credited with key evidence in the investigation of hit-and-run and murder cases.
However, it could also be used to assist ICE, and that is all that matters. Councilman Kevin Flynn explained it is all about Trump’s election: “We know that it can help solve crime. But I think since maybe Jan. 20 of this year, those concerns are greatly heightened and have a new reality about them.”
Council member Sarah Parady added:
“We’re living in an era where just this last week, actually, an executive order came out instructing the Department of Justice and the FBI to look for reasons to prosecute local elected officials and activists who they believe are, quote, unquote, obstructing ICE enforcement. This kind of surveillance technology is a gift if you have that kind of ill intent, and the federal government has that ill intent right now.”
Mayor Mike Johnston also stated that they need to halt these arrests because “today’s environment is much different than when the pilot began in early 2024, and there are new community concerns surrounding this technology.”
The police are obviously not happy but car thieves are thrilled. If this seems utterly insane, keep in mind that this was a unanimous vote of the city council.

These loons are crazy. They want to allow crime to flourish so that they can prevent law enforcement from arresting hardened criminals? Why not help the feds get rid of them? If they do, they stand a better chance of sorting out illegals who have no criminal intent from the human traffickers, Cartels, and violent offenders.

Every ICE official, every police officer and Trump himself made a promise to GOD to follow the 4th Amendment, to follow the Bill of Rights, to follow Article VI of the U.S. Constitution.
This constitutional Oath of Office is the employment contract of every governing official. One cannot become an ICE officer until they take this scared loyalty oath. One cannot retain government authority over anyone without promising GOD to uphold the U.S. Constitution.
The centuries old legal present of “Fruit of the poisonous tree” evidence, means that if government officials break the law themselves, the officials are disloyal to the U.S. Constitution – that is a false-foundation (illegal) to build upon.
A court “suppression hearing” would disqualify any future indictments by any oath-sworn prosecutor, when ICE officials break the laws first – breaking the law to enforce the law.
The real issue is why aren’t ICE officials being fired for violating the 4th Amendment and violating “Carpenter v. U.S.”?

A democratic Federal Republic is a difficult thing to maintain when a great number of your citizens have been virtually lobotomized by the media/education industries. I do think we need a basic intelligence test plus voter ID to save this nation. While I support deporting illegals, wholesale, the same way that Biden imported them, I think that ICE should be able to do that without relying on a surveillance system that impacts the privacy of every driver, not just the minority breaking laws. I also like the idea of restricting cell phone use by drivers, but I fail to see how this system would effectively accomplish that. Wouldn’t the city need to prove that it was the driver who was using the phone, and that the phone was being hand-held rather than in a mount and on speaker, which is permitted by nearly all phone use by driver regulations? Sounds like quite a burden for the city to meet to have any impact. While the motives of Denver city council are highly suspect, and likely nefarious, I view the outcome as a net benefit. YMMV.
When you drive on government paid roads. You limited rights. They have been using license plate reads for years.
Heck, the toll road even readers use facial recognition. Driving on public roads is a privilege, not a right, you agreed to a whole host of restrictions on your liberties when you got that driving license.

The only way this ends is: a) prosecuting state/local officials for obstruction and b) completely halting all federal funds of any kind to these states/localities.

FLOCK cameras are used to scrap all our data and my clients do not steal cars on FLOCK. You may receive a citation by mail for being on your cell phone, however. Not all “crime prevention systems” are fabulous. Most are spying on you under the guise of “serving and protecting” you. If you like, you can go to jail wherein they watch over you constantly and gee how nice, give you a bologna sandwich with no beverage.
Fair enough. I have concerns over excessive surveillance myself. But to take a crime fighting tool off law enforcement’s plate for the express purpose of protecting the criminals, despite admitting fewer crimes will be solved and more will happen in the first place, seems insane to me.
Do they send illegals tickets for stealing cars, and talking their cell phones? Or are they exempt from those laws too?

Yeah, it’s called a rule of law, constitutional justice system, not the rule of man, authoritarian system of the previous administration.
Wouldn’t this action null out the government’s sovereign immunity and clear the path to citizens successfully suing the government? It’s one thing to passively not cooperate with the DHS, but to take active steps that removes law enforcement measures previously justified as protecting your citizens, seems to be indefensible.
