The Denver City Council has voted unanimously to shutter a highly successful anti-theft auto license plate tracking system. The system was not closed due to concerns about privacy or finances. It was shut down because Democratic members believed that ICE could use the data to deport illegals.
In May, the council refused to renew the $666,000 contract with Flock for camera monitors around 70 Denver intersections to screen for car theft. That system resulted in the recovery of 170 stolen cars and 300 arrests. It is also credited with key evidence in the investigation of hit-and-run and murder cases.
However, it could also be used to assist ICE, and that is all that matters. Councilman Kevin Flynn explained it is all about Trump’s election: “We know that it can help solve crime. But I think since maybe Jan. 20 of this year, those concerns are greatly heightened and have a new reality about them.”
Council member Sarah Parady added:
“We’re living in an era where just this last week, actually, an executive order came out instructing the Department of Justice and the FBI to look for reasons to prosecute local elected officials and activists who they believe are, quote, unquote, obstructing ICE enforcement. This kind of surveillance technology is a gift if you have that kind of ill intent, and the federal government has that ill intent right now.”
Mayor Mike Johnston also stated that they need to halt these arrests because “today’s environment is much different than when the pilot began in early 2024, and there are new community concerns surrounding this technology.”
The police are obviously not happy but car thieves are thrilled. If this seems utterly insane, keep in mind that this was a unanimous vote of the city council.
Clearly, the lack of sufficient oxygen in the Mile-High City has taken its toll on its council members.

In a society of laws, the laws must be adhered to. Unfortunately, reprehensible slavery was fully legal and had been for quite some time. Secession was not prohibited and was fully constitutional. Existing immigration law did not “admit” freed slaves to become citizens, and Lincoln failed to do his executive duty, which could only have been deportation as compassionate repatriation on January 1, 1863. What Lincoln did was egregiously, brutally, and unilaterally violate statutory and constitutional law and adversarially impose his will on America with kinetic force, making him a criminal. Every act and remaining effect of Lincoln was and is unconstitutional and must be rescinded and abrogated, starting with the “Reconstruction Amendments” of Lincoln’s fellow traveler, Karl Marx. Lincoln was the inflection point where America turned from maximal constitutional freedom to the oppressive communism of the current era.

SCOTUS just ruled against universal injunctions 6-3 with Barret scorching the insane dissent of Katanji Brown Jackson. It is a nation saving ruling and it is about time the 677 courts around the country are stopped from being executives.
Jackson is now the worst justice on the Court as she has surpassed the horrible Sotomayor due to her youthful exuberance along with her radical ideology. As for Kagan, she is such a disappointment. Kagan had recently decried universal injunctions when Biden was president because using logic, the law and the Constitution she was able to land on the right side of the issue. Unfortunately her political bent wouldn’t allow her to vote with the majority and that is typical of the left as has been shown by the almost 100% adherence to party among congressional Democrats.

I may be wrong, but the Constitution never gave SCOTUS enforcement powers. I think they assumed that courts below them would be virftuous and accept said ruling, and life would go on. I think that’s how things have worked for the bulk of this country’s history.

This type of problem occurred with Brown V Board of education. I am not sure exactly what ocurred but the Supreme Court issued stronger rulings and the Federal Marshals were called ou.
The lower courts rulings can be dismissed by the Supreme Court. There could be sanctions and if all else fails I think Congress created the court system so it could legislate it, or part of it, out of existence.

What does tracking stolen cars have to do with illegal immigrants? Regardless of immigration status, if you are driving a stolen car, you should be arrested and charged. There is not a magic plate flag that tells people this car is driven by an illegal immigrant. If Denver doesn’t want to renew the contract based on ROI, that makes sense. To claim that somehow ice would use this to find illegals, doesn’t wash. Unless the left is claiming that illegals will steal cars? I thought they claimed they were law-abiding (except for that pesky illegal part of illegal immigration).

Turley sure loves to make mountains out of mole hills. The FLOCK camera system is good, but….it’s not really that effective. I the statistic he cites is accurate it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the overall number of thefts. 170 cars recovered is nice. But when you have a yearly theft rate of nearly 17,000 vehicles in. 2024 it’s a drop in the proverbial bucket. Denver car thefts average around 700 a month.
Denver officials have every right to stop a funding a program they deem a source of abuse if they want to. It’s more likely temporary since Trump won’t be in office forever he may not even last his full term if he keeps foaming at the mouth and raging on people calling out his BS claims like the success of the Iran bombing. Turns out it did not do as much damage as he claims. It may have just set back Iran’s program mere months. He screwed up when he literally made it clear he was going to bomb Iran days before the event. Iran smartly decided to move the Uranium stockpile to a safer location before any bombs dropped as reported. The iranians are not stupid. But Trump certainly is. That’s why he’s so frustrated. Because he keeps getting rolled and outsmarted every time he thinks he did something…smart.

Just as people’s homes are robbed every day, police rarely recover or care about finding the stolen items. They “find” them when they come across them when investigating another crime. It’s not a priority to them. I’ve had my car stolen once. Did they recover it? No. But they did make a report so I could turn it in to my insurance company. It happens.
To use the FLOCK system to catch illegals is not required in any state if the state decides not to use it or share info.
