North Carolina School District Settles Case After Suspending Teen for Using Term “Illegal Alien”

Christian McGhee, 17, has secured a significant victory for free speech in North Carolina after the Davidson County Board of Education settled a case over his suspension for using the term “illegal alien.” What is disturbing is that, once again, the school officials themselves appear to have escaped any accountability for their abusive treatment of this student.

Christian received a three-day suspension for using the phrase while discussing word meanings during his English class at Central Davidson High School in Lexington on April 9, 2024.

A teacher gave the teen an assignment that used the word “alien,” and he asked, “Like space aliens or illegal aliens without green cards?” After a Hispanic student in McGhee’s class “joked” that he was going to “kick Christian’s ass,” the teacher escalated the matter to Central Davidson’s assistant principal, Eric Anderson.

It was Anderson who “declared that his comment was racially motivated” that resulted in the suspension. When Leah McGhee attempted to appeal the suspension, school administrators refused to back down. The Board members also gave her the stiff arm.

She then retained an attorney with the Liberty Justice Center’s Educational Freedom group and filed a lawsuit under the first amendment.

The board has now agreed to remove all references to racial bias in McGhee’s school record and issue a public apology “for the mischaracterization of racial bias” in his record, documents show.

The problem is that there is no indication that the school officials or Board members responsible for this travesty will be held accountable in any way. They not only abused his young man, but they cost the county money in litigation and settlement. After forcing this family into court, they are now just shrugging and walking away.

Until these officials incur real consequences for such actions, this pattern will continue to repeat itself.

  1. Although North Carolina had great college institutions, very few public high school graduates can get into them because of substandard preparation and corrupt mismanagement of financial resources. Winston-Salem Schools is currently about 46 million because of mismanagement by the former superintendent and chief financial officer abruptly retired when the state announced an audit. They have apparently now left the state (also during the period of her employment, the superintendent received $2000 per month to fly home to someplace in Florida—). Last year the school apparently did not pay the substitute teachers, cut funding to exceptional children services, and etc.). The county is scrambling to find funds to open school and pay for basic teaching for 2025/2026. No consequences for the culprits are announced to the public. The children pay for this. The leadership and school management are mostly democrats, as are the school board members. … citizens of Forsyth County and North Carolina—WAKE UP!!!—you are destroying your children’s futures….i am sending this comment anonymously because the blowback from making any comments against democrats is too costly.

  2. Well, technically, the teenager should have reffered to “depraved, degenerate, disgusting illegal aliens”, but “illegal aliens” is good enoough shorthand for them. And get rid of the subhuman vermin.

  3. The only way Maxwell survives is distributed copies of blackmail material and our blackmailed superiors believing in her ability to construct an invulnerable, multifaceted deadman switch.

  4. Might I also add that while one may be here and subject to the laws of the US, you are ultimately “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” of the country from which you can obtain a passport.

If neither of your parents can get a US passport, even though you might be born on US soil you can only get a passport from whichever countries your parents can get one . And THAT is how US citizenship ought to be defined . If one of your parents can get a US passport and you are born here then you are a US citizen and are “subject to the jurisdiction thereof. If both of your parents are French and can get passports from France and you are born here then you are FRENCH.

    1. That is utter bulldust. Jurisdiction has nothing to do with passports. Passports weren’t even really a thing in the 1860s. You could get one if you wanted it, but you could travel just as easily without one so most people didn’t bother. Someone who is in the USA and doesn’t have diplomatic immunity or some other kind of immunity from US law is TOTALLY subject to US jurisdiction, and is included in the 14th amendment. And everyone knows this; those who pretend to believe otherwise are just lying.

I know they’re lying, because they all quote the amendment’s senate sponsor saying that he meant to exclude children born to “foreigners, aliens”, but deliberately omit the very next words in the sentence, “who are diplomats and have immunity, but everyone else is included”. (Paraphrasing the quote from memory, so the wording is not exact, but this is what it says.)

  5. He probably has defamation and slander cases he can bring. As for me I’m loving seeing all of these “illegal aliens deportation devices” , (ICE machines), showing up in front of convenience stores, gas stations, and just about everywhere else I look .

  6. I guess MAGA is so brainwashed he’s getting them to go from outrage over the Epstein case to now saying, as all the Trump supporters here are saying, pedophilia is no big deal and Maxwell is innocent.

    1. Somebody sure sounds worried that Maxwell is talking. Not so much bravado now, eh sweetcakes? This was always going to end with a bunch of Democrats going to jail. If you ever thought otherwise you’re an even bigger idiot than you appear to be.

    2. Dollars to donuts Maxwell receives a Presidntial pardon to ring in the New Year of 2026. 🥳

    3. Funny, nobody here said either. You must be a real dimwit for that to be your takeaway.

    4. “pedophilia is no big deal and Maxwell is innocent.”

Please link to the post where anyone here made either of those statements.

Also, who are you referring to that had sex with pre-pubescent children?

      1. “Please link to the post where anyone here made either of those statements.”

That’s going to be hard since no such post exists. It’s an interesting new trolling tactic: they just make things up and expect people to waste time refuting their trash. We’d be better to just point and laugh.

  7. The trolls on this site may soon be disappearing.

    Good work, Elon.

    1. Anyone who disagrees with Trump should be arrested for treason and receive life sentences.

        1. Same difference. Bottom line, people who are different than you will not be tolerated.

      1. If you’re referring to the disgusting Media Matters, don’t break the law if you can’t do the time.

  8. The immigration failure is a classical tragedy of failed leadership. The previous administrations ignored the coming tsunami of humans from far and wide in search of nirvana though a door left open. Reminds one of a Barker: ‘Come One, Come All, To Paradise, No One Will Be Denied, Hurry Along Now! You May Miss Your Plane to the Destination of Your Choice’ Happy Trails to you until we meet again!’

SOURCE: U.S. Census Bureau, Current Population Survey, Annual Social and Economic Supplement, 2023.
    Internet release date: May 2024.

    Census Citizenship Status in millions
    Native Born: 281,854
    Naturalized Citizen: 23,935
    Not a U.S. citizen: 24,843

So now the question is what to do with Not’s. The prior administration’s (including 45) efforts were nothing but passing the puck and never aiming for a goal post then using pantomiming as a political tool, oh you flailing fool and your fairy tales. We have allowed free access to America by any and all takers not thinking what the benefits and costs were and who would be impacted through unfettered immigration. Currently there is action to lessen the Not’s roaming through-out America, but realistically how many of the Not’s can be deported especially given the Court’s and their political disposition. There must be incentives and disincentives for the illegal Not’s to return from which they came but have a pathway to return through legal means. This should be a priority of Congress to finally address immigration and with some specificity to the current crop of Not’s who returned. This issue has dragged America into ideological camps unnecessarily.

The “previous administration” that “ignored the coming tsunami of humans” and initiated all the subsequent waves of illegal alien invasion was that of “Crazy Abe” Lincoln, who broke every law on the books. Lincoln installed an inimical four-million-man foreign standing army on U.S. soil in direct violation of existing immigration law that required people who were admitted to become citizens to be “free white persons,” in turn requiring compassionate repatriation or deportation of freed slaves. The Naturalization Act of 1802 was in full force and effect on January 1, 1863. But then Lincoln was completely comfortable with violating fundamental and statutory law, having denied fully constitutional secession, commenced an unconstitutional war against a sovereign foreign nation, suspended habeas corpus with no legal basis or constitutional authority, denied freedom of the press, abolished reprehensible slavery that was properly legislated by Congress, etc.

It’s a nation, not of “immigrants” but increasingly of illegal aliens.

  9. forget illegals. Here’s our problem from within:

Uh, oh, not the Beatles too!

    1. Yes, lower the age for girls to be hoes to 16. That’s fine. It doesn’t require consent to use instinct. Use birth control.

Marriage is 18 because it involves a promise for life. Anything from 14 to 17 inclusive is instinct requiring no brain activity.

  11. Liberals promote their false phrase, “Native American,” too, for political purposes, not anthropological. Indians were nomadic Asians who entered by way of the Alaskan (Bering) Land Bridge and could not possibly have been Americans, as they were here long before America existed. They have their own names, which they prefer, such as Cheyenne, Apache, Lakota, etc., or just the “People” in their own language. Indians were nomadic Asians who entered by way of the Alaskan Land Bridge and could not possibly have been Americans, as they were here long before America existed.

    1. You’re correct. 10 000 years nada here except bison. It’s amazing to understand that it’s ALL migration. That’s right. Now there’s private property. Wow. What a concept.

    2. My four children were born here in America and that in itself makes them ” Native Americans” does it not?

The term “illegal alien” is a legally recognized phrase in U.S. law, though it is considered contentious and politically charged in public discourse.
    1. Legal Definition

“Alien”: A person who is not a citizen or national of the United States (8 U.S. Code § 1101(a)(3)).

“Illegal alien”: Generally refers to a non-citizen who has entered or remained in the U.S. without legal authorization.

The federal government, particularly in statutes and legal proceedings, has used this term, though more recent federal guidance and many courtrooms have moved toward alternatives such as “undocumented noncitizen” or “unauthorized immigrant.”
    2. Controversy

Supporters of the term argue that it is accurate, based on legal status, and reflects immigration law violations.

Critics of the term say it is dehumanizing and may suggest criminality in a broad or misleading way. For example, being in the U.S. without valid documentation is a civil offense in most cases, not a criminal one.

    3. Alternative Terms in Use

    Undocumented immigrant

    Unauthorized migrant

    Noncitizen without lawful status

These terms are more widely used in journalism, academia, and advocacy contexts to avoid bias.

If you’re asking for historical context, legal usage, or the implications of using the term in different settings, I can provide more detail. Let me know.

    1. How many congressmen and other “Americans” cannot document their original entry or legal “immigration”?

How many congressmen and other “Americans” have lived for multiple decades in America as illegal aliens?

How many congressmen and other “Americans” are actually undocumented foreigners?

      1. We’ve documented for 250 years. There were 44 people living in the desert of Southern calif at the time Spain explored it. 44!
