      I don’t think that can be disputed anymore. I was born in a very small town that has grown, but is still quite small in relative terms (less than 200,000), but is bluer than blue could be. Relatives there tell me some people are simply openly identifying as communist now. This did not go away in the McCarthy era or the fall of the Iron Curtain, and Jimmy Hoffa would be jealous of the unions today.

      We got a reprieve last November, and we had better hold onto it and push it forward, no matter the backlash. The rest of the Western world is going to take some time to come around, and I hope it isn’t before things go totally sideways for them. No one under 40 in 2025 would have any idea what I am even talking about, and that too, is something we are going to have to address, eventually.

      Regardless, your statement is 100% accurate. And understand that the content of your statement actually appeals to a great many, and yes, they vote. this is no longer something we can hope will dissolve when someone hits an imaginary wall of ‘reality’; to the indoctrinated, their indoctrination *is* reality.

        Oh, and PS – not a popular opinion around here, but ‘school choice’: the teachers at privates and charters were trained the same as the teachers anywhere else, I do not understand why anyone thinks that is some kind of panacea, or why they would imagine there is some special, other, place private/charter teachers get their training. Or that those institutions also exist for profit. They go to the same schools, and are just as naive and susceptible. The building kids go to and who funds them are really, really, not the issue. Vouchers will not solve this, not by a long shot. There is almost no such thing as ‘school choice’ in 2025 – it almost does not exist. They all come from the same factory, and they all have the same settings. Universities are where we should be looking, and IMO, modern parenting, but virtually no one wants to do that. 🤷🏻‍♂️

        1. *. Charters and most religious schools score about the same overall as public schools. There are private schools that have PhD only teachers K-12 of course. They’re all single subject teachers and switch classrooms throughout the day. Children remain in the same class.

          Academics may be the same charter , private , public but the clientele isn’t the same creating a different atmosphere, milieu. It’s worth the money if parents don’t want Suzy ducking to avoid thrown scissors.

    Union members must be terminated and removed upon their first act of being AWOL.

    Public organizations must complete the mission with the best available workforce.

    1. *. I took a bit of time peruse the Chicago union contract. Beginning teachers earn approx 21.00 dollars per hour. Half drop out within 5 years. Contract hours are approx 7.5 hours, 30 min lunch, hall duty, bus duty, years and cafeteria duty etc. Direct teaching approx 7 hours per day. 30 clients aka pupils. After school grading, preparation for following day, logs for areas per pupil teach, working, reinforce, mastery level and enrichment. Copy ink stains from machines that break down. Attendance logs and daily plans.

      Another 7 hours for 14 hour workday. Whats needed? Laptops with material CDs per pupil correlated with texts, full time secretary and roaming computer tech per classroom, all non direct teaching duties by aides, discipline policy followed by admin without exception.

      Bout it. 21 dollars per hour and the only people without a secretary.

      Sure, it’s all the unions fault.

Yesterday Senator Tim Kaine (Dem – Virginia, allegedly Catholic) stated during a hearing for Riley Barnes, who was nominated for Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor:

    The notion that rights don’t come from laws and don’t come from the government, but come from the Creator… that’s what the Iranian government believes. It’s a theocratic regime that bases its rule on Sharia law and targets Sunnis, Bahá’ís, Jews, Christians, and other religious minorities. And they do it because they believe that they understand what natural rights are from their Creator. So, the statement that our rights do not come from our laws or our governments is extremely troubling.

    Thus the United States Founding Fathers are no different than Iran’s.

    Catholic Bishop Robert Barron responded to Senator Kaine:

    “That we are created equal, created by God. We’re endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights. Among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And therein is the problem: long-term debt becoming an acceptable means of financing governmental operations, all levels of the United States, federal, state, or local governments it seems to matter not anymore. The federal just prints more; states and local just borrow (bonds) more, never reconciling operations to revenue. I have no idea what the total debt is for every governmental entity combined in the United States, but I’d guess over multiple Trillions. Sustaining liabilities with debt is now showing cracks where revenue is leaking into a large vat of interest. I say this with utmost respect to our past and present leaders, ‘your foolish notions that whatever wishes you’ve had can become true with just a little more debt’ needs addressed, government should not be a SUGAR DADDY!’.

      While you are correct that the Founders believed that our some rights come from natural law, that does not mean that those rights come from a particular religion’s God. This is one problem with Barnes’ testimony, and his citation to Rubio (which was the event that led to Kaine’s response). Barnes quoted Rubio in saying “[O]ur rights come from God our Creator – not from our laws, not from our governments.” Barnes then said “We are a nation of individuals, each made in the image of God.”

      The suggestion here is that our natural rights stem from a Christian God, and this was even more explicit when Speaker Johnson was confirmed. However, our Founders’ word choice is pretty important here. No references to the “Lord” or the Bible. The Founders were heavily influenced by Deism and broader Enlightenment ideas, like John Locke, rather than being exclusively rooted in specific Christian theology. The intentional use of “Nature’s God” and “our Creator” are examples.

      The concept of natural law actually predates Christianity entirely. Aristotle is generally considered the father of natural law.

      While it would be incorrect for Kaine to suggest that all our rights are created by law (which he didn’t see below), it is also wrong to suggest that all of our rights are natural rights, as well. Legal rights, such as those created in statutes, are absolutely created by law/government.

      You misunderstood Barnes – he did not say that “unalienable rights” come from God, he actually said all of our rights come from God. This is an extremely important difference, and I believe the one that Kaine was trying to address.

      Finally, you also misquote Kaine because he never actually said that ALL rights are legal rights rather than natural rights.

      If you are going to attack Kaine, you should make sure to provide adequate context. It is absolutely concerning that Barnes thinks that all rights come from God. As that would – indeed – be a theocracy.

Iran doesn’t believe people have unalienable rights, because if it really believed that, it would respect and secure those rights. It doesn’t. Kaine is completely backwards.       John, you are asking a good question, but its focus is narrow. I have a residence in Midtown Manhattan in a classy building, so the financial health of the city is of utmost importance to me. NYC was heading toward bankruptcy in the mid-1970s, so I ask myself what happened in NYC that permitted it to survive and continue to survive, despite some of the miserable leadership we have seen since.

      If we compare Chicago to NYC, we can see some glaring differences that solved NYC’s potential bankruptcy crisis. I will summarize a few points.

      1) Pragmatism
      2) Non-partisanship: governors Carey (D) and Pataki (R); mayors Koch (D) and Giuliani. There are more, but I wanted to demonstrate different political leaders.
      3) State action: The state forced the city to live within its budget.
      4) Maintenance of credit: NYC ranges at the A level; Chicago, B.

      None of these things will mean much to the Democrats on this blog. We need to go beyond their scope to adequately address the problems we face.

There is another reason: Torah, or if one chooses a different life, ethics and morality that are mostly contained in the Torah. When one is first trying to create evolutionary change, one first does so while understanding right from wrong. The second thing one must do is to understand that many people are immoral without any sense of responsibility, and thus one must prepare themself for that eventuality.

              The people who carried out those horrors were all of the same “leftist” design. Nazis, Communists, Maoists, and every totalitarian who detested humanity. You act and likely call yourself one of the left. You stand in their company. Your existence is a disgraceful ignominy. You are closer to a parasite than to a human being.

              My wife and her family lived through what you mock. They risked their lives crossing a border. She carried microfilm, braided into her hair. They were arrested, interrogated, and searched, but by chance, the soldiers missed it. Had it been found, she would have been shot on the spot. After that came the Austrian border, a live minefield, and then a tent in the dead of winter, with nothing of her own.

              Understand this: her story is not unusual. It was common for Jews born in that place and at that time. Thousands carried scars, thousands more never made it through.

              So laugh if you wish. Burn the flag. Mock religion. Parade your deviant cleverness. You cannot escape the truth: people like you are always the starting point of human suffering.
