“RIP Constitution”: Democratic Candidate for Virginia Lt. Governor Holds Startling Rally

The Democratic candidate for Virginia’s next lieutenant governor, Ghazala Firdous Hashmi, appears to believe that the United States Constitution is dead. During a recent campaign stop, Hashmi gave a speech in front of an upside-down American flag, a symbol of distress, accompanied by a makeshift tombstone that read, “RIP Constitution.”

Recently, I have debated professors from Harvard and Boston College over claims that we are in a “constitutional crisis.” Hashmi is apparently well past a crisis and is suggesting that the Constitution is somehow deceased.

She tells the crowd:“We have to fight. We are not going to concede this democracy to the efforts of tyranny. We are not going to concede the rights that we have in this country to protect every single citizen. We are going to fight. This is an act of civil disobedience that we are going to keep up and make sure that your voices continue throughout Virginia, all throughout the country.”

Hashmi is continuing the Democratic narrative that democracy is dying in America and tyranny is on the rise. It was the mantra before the last election when Republicans secured control of both houses and the White House. Despite that failure, Democrats are doubling down on rage rhetoric and unhinged claims.

Our constitutional system continues to function as it has through prior
“ages of rage.”  The nation is divided, so less work tends to get done in Congress. In the meantime, the courts continue to address many of these controversies. The Trump Administration has won and lost cases in the federal system, including the Supreme Court.

Many of those declaring the death of democracy seem to primarily object to how the democratic process has worked. Past presidents, including Joe Biden, have violated the Constitution. Yet, these same figures did not declare a constitutional crisis or, in this case, a dead constitution.

However, telling supporters that the Constitution is dead and that tyranny is on the rise only serves to fuel the rage and political violence. Recently, the Virginia Democratic gubernatorial nominee, Abigail Spanberger, told supporters, “Let your rage fuel you.”

Now the woman running to serve as Spanberger’s Lieutenant Governor is telling people that the Constitution is dead and democracy is dying. Some will hear such inflammatory comments as a license to take extreme actions, including violence.

  1. I am an olod fart who beleives we shoudl return to the idea of the US Constituion. It really is simple. Common defense and interstate commerce.
Allow people to live the way they desire in their individual state. You want WOKE schools – have at it. You want to ruin lives – have at it. As long as it falls withn your State constitution I don’t care.
The Constitution has been dying since Alexander Hamilton defined “necessary and proper” as “convenient.” We need to revive the dream of the constitution and staqrt eliminating all these grift posibilities. If the gubmint has nothing to give, Bernie Sanders, Lyndsay Graham, AOC, etc will all be gone.
This idiot running for public office should be looking at the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

  2. Wow, Jonathan, I have never seen a more unhinged comment section than your (relatively) sane posts!

  3. The root of the report is clearly identified in the true life move “The Report”.

Since 2001, Republicans violated Ronald Reagan’s torture treaty (legally binding under Article VI of the Constitution and federal law), then both parties (including Democrats) tried to cover it up and send it down the Orwellian “Memory Hole” – like it never even happened.

Also in the movie, the Executive Branch (run by a Democrat) broke into the U.S. Senate to steal documents. A co-equal branch of government burglarizing another co-equal branch.

Just because both parties support constitutional-lawlessness, that don’t make it legal or constitutional. So if nobody enforces it, it’s then legal?

Both parties do it, but we can’t solve the problem until we are honest about America’s lawless 21st Century. The big question is where are the necessary reforms so leaders of both parties follow their oath of office?

WASHINGTON—Gaza-based terrorist group Hamas said Friday it has agreed to release all hostages in accordance with U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan.

The group also said it has accepted parts of the peace proposal to end its war with Israel, including giving up power over Gaza, but noted that other provisions would require further consultations among Palestinians.

  5. Yes, one more blaring example of why ALL women need to be voted out of government in the midterms and in every election going forward. They are traitors, liars, cowards, and disgusting human beings in most cases. Yes, some are good, but who can you trust? Just watch the news for one broadcast and see for yourself. They are virtually all wackjobs!

  6. Res Res Est sez:
This isn’t just a struggle for power and a few bucks. We’re talking Trillions and the Power of the most powerful. People lie and then recant their lies for different lies. Crazies kill in predictable patters and no one seems to know why they do these murders, except we’ve known how to make people do things against their better natures for years; so why don’t we believe it can be done in these cases.

Schlichter is right. We’re closer to a different but just as bitter civil war than we’ve ever been. A people deserve that government they allow, and the gods first make mad the men they destroy.

  7. *. PT, as the courts sling this or that opinion at the executive branch no one seems to mention judges don’t have security clearance for classified information.

    1. Actually, many federal judges do have high level security clearances. As an example, FISA judges have earances.

      1. Boasberg an example? In such cases it’s for surveillance purposes. Warrants must be obtained. Incredible search of DJT’s domecile and many others? Yielding zip? The early morning raids?

        Right

  8. “Our constitutional system continues to function as it has through prior
“ages of rage.” The nation is divided”

Yes, we are divided, and the left is violent. Does anyone wonder if conservatives would riot and cause destruction? Did they riot when Charley Kirk was killed? Did they riot when Biden broke laws, and silenced them? No. Will they break laws when they realize how many whistleblowers revealed President Biden was lining his pockets in Ukraine? No.

The left is violent. The wide Conservative group almost always remains within the law.

FBI had three informants reporting Biden corruption in Ukraine, but no record of real investigation

The FBI had three separate confidential sources who reported the Biden family was engaged in corruption in Ukraine. However, FBI Director Kash Patel says that there is no record that the bureau sought to thoroughly investigate those claims.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., released two new FBI FD-1023s—records of reporting from the bureau’s confidential human sources—that focus on allegations of Biden family corruption.

These records match closely to a previous memo Grassley released in 2023 containing similar claims. The senator wants to get to the bottom of why the FBI apparently failed to fully investigate those claims.

“To date, the FBI has never answered Congress whether they investigated the text messages, audio files and financial records referenced in that 1023,” Grassley said in a hearing with Patel in September.

    1. Of course you conveniently fail to mention that the informant, Alexander Smirnov, whose information started all this nonsense, eventually admitted that he had lied about the Bidens taking any money. He admitted that he was working in cahoots with Russian intelligence, and that the entire story is fake.
He pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and currently sits in a federal prison serving a 6 year sentence.
Patel claims that the FBI “failed to investigate these claims”. However the truth is that the FBI DID investigate, found that Smirnov was lying, and put him in prison.
There was no need to investigate “claims” of Biden’s corruption, because it was determined all those claims were false.
I repeat, Smirnov admitted he lied, admitted the story was false, pleaded guilty to lying, and is in prison.

        1. Then why haven’t they be charged with anything ?????
If there is any substance to these stupid claims, then arrest them and prosecute them.
They will never be prosecuted because all these claims are completely false.
I can tell you now that they will never be prosecuted, but you MAGA morons will cling to your fake conspiracy theories.

          1. Did you ever ask yourself how the Biden family got so wealthy on a public servant’s salary all those years? It is a question worth at least pondering for a few minutes.

            1. Where is the evidence of Joe Biden’s wealth ???
Here is his 2023 tax return.
              https://s3.amazonaws.com/pdfs.taxnotes.com/2024/J_Biden_2023.pdf
              Taxable income of $568,974.
If there is ANY EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER that he has received millions of dollars, then it would be a trivial matter to charge him with tax evasion.
But there is absolutely no evidence.
That is why he has never been charged with anything.

Just saying that he has received millions of dollars does not make it true.
The person who originally told the FBI about this supposed corruption was Alexander Smirnov. After the FBI investigated his claims they found he was lying. He admitted he was lying and that he was working with Russian intelligence to fabricate this story.

              1. A tax return shows income, not wealth.

And the assets are held by his brother and his son. It’s family corruption, not just one individual. Joe generated the bribes, Jim and Hunter collected them on his behalf. Remember the “Ten percent for the Big Guy”.

                1. You are completely missing the point.
If there is identifiable wealth that does not match declared income in tax returns, then there is a very straightforward path to prosecution, just like Al Capone.
The problem is that there is no identifiable wealth that does not match declared income.

If there is such identifiable wealth beyond declared income, then the Trump DOJ would be bringing charges in seconds.
But they have not brought charges.
                  WHY ????
Because there is no identifiable wealth that does not match declared income.

This whole story of the Biden’s collecting millions in undeclared income is absurd. It is just a MAGA conspiracy theory.

              2. Why does the birben clan have over 120 LLC’s that have moved chinese , russian and UKRAINIAN CASH through them to avoid taxation and scrutiny ?. WHY ?.

                1. he House Oversight Committee stated that the Biden family and its associates created over 20 companies. Most of these were limited liability companies established while Joe Biden was vice president.

                  In contrast:
As of a May 2025 report, Donald Trump was associated with over 540 business entities mostly LLC’s. Earlier reports from 2016 and 2018 also cited around 500 entities.

          2. AI Overview

In his July 5, 2016, public statement, then-FBI Director James Comey announced that the bureau would not recommend charges against Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server, concluding that “no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case”

. This decision came after a lengthy investigation into the handling of classified information during her tenure as Secretary of State.
            Key details from Comey’s statement

“Extremely careless”: While clearing Clinton of criminal intent, Comey described her and her colleagues’ handling of highly classified information as “extremely careless”. He noted that this was more than simple carelessness, but did not rise to the level of criminal intent required for prosecution.

Lack of criminal intent: Comey stated that to bring charges for mishandling classified material, the FBI typically looks for evidence of “intentional and willful mishandling” or signs of disloyalty to the U.S., none of which were found in this case. He clarified that while carelessness could lead to administrative consequences, it did not warrant criminal prosecution under the legal standards followed by the Department of Justice.

No criminal charges recommended: Based on the facts and the long-established practice of the Justice Department, Comey announced the FBI’s view that “no charges are appropriate in this case”.

Unusual public announcement: The statement itself was highly unusual. Comey broke from tradition by publicly announcing the bureau’s findings and recommendation, a move he said was driven by the intense public interest in the case.

Controversy and legacy: Comey’s statement sparked a firestorm of criticism. Republicans denounced the decision not to prosecute, while Democrats questioned his unusual public comments, which they argued were unnecessarily critical and politically damaging. The handling of the case remains a subject of intense debate and was later echoed in political discussions surrounding subsequent investigations.

            OH, —- YES!

          3. They weren’t charged with anything during the 0bama, first Trump, and Biden terms because they and their allies firmly controlled the FBI, which deliberately refused to investigate them. And now they can’t be prosecuted because Jim and Hunter have pardons and Joe is too incompetent to stand trial.

          4. Hunter’s laptop is a conspiracy?!
It’s evidence as was the testimony of the IRS whistleblowers. Jeeez

        2. That $85 k monthly check from Burisma for a no show “job” to Punter Briben – which he failed to pay taxes on as it was laundered through various Briben family LLC’s was not grift ?. You bet it was and the briben clan is dirty as all hell.

      1. You rest your one broken egg in an empty basket and call it full. That’s not analysis. Start with what we know. The evidence was there, plenty for an ordinary conviction, but not enough to take down a President protected by power.

And Biden’s case wasn’t built on one man. There were several whistleblowers, and more evidence kept turning up. If what we had before was enough to convict a common man, this should’ve been enough to convict anyone without a strong political shield.

Yet you say Smirnov, as if the name ends the story. It doesn’t. He took a plea deal, not a trial. He faced two kinds of charges: false statements and tax fraud. Three counts of tax fraud alone carry fifteen years. Add the rest, and you’re talking twenty to thirty.

What did he get? Four to six. That deal helped them both. Smirnov stayed out of a decades-long sentence, and Biden’s people saw the threat go quiet. The judge gave six, the top of the range. Maybe he thought the deal was too soft. Maybe it smelled of a trade. Either way, six years isn’t mercy; it’s a message.

    2. Correct. The corruption extends into the judiciary. Can the United States stay United voluntarily?

Make no bones about it. The oppression is other worldly it seems but for a little while.

    3. Meyer completely forgets January 6th. It either didn’t happen or all those middle-aged, White militia guys were ANTIFA in disguise. Or we’re supposed to believe the FBI stoked that all that violence (and not the weeks of false election claims spearheaded by Trump). But we’re supposed to forget that whole incident and think ‘only’ leftists are violent.

      1. Jan 6 was a completely legitimate and mostly peaceful protest. There was very little violence, and what little there was of it was in fact stoked by the Capitol Police and the FBI. For instance by deliberately firing tear gas into what until that moment was a completely peaceful crowd, causing people to panic and fight for their own safety.

Certainly there was a lot less violence than at a typical BLM “protest” that the Democrats from the VP and the Speaker on down openly supported and encouraged.

      2. Jan 6? Tell me what happened. Not the BS but facts.

On Jan 6, two protestors died due to police action. Ashlie Babbit was shot by a cop and he was hidden from the public because it wasn’t a good shoot, and Rosanne Boyland, who is seen lying on the ground and being beaten by a black police woman with a baton-like object, before she died. Those were the only violent deaths on jan 6.

How many protestors were arrested and jailed without due process? Many, and some were finally released by a judge because there was no evidence of guilt.

What about the J6 commission that broke the rules and laws? It seems they got off, at least until now. Where is all the evidence that was requested? Lots of it disappeared by the J6 committee.

What about Antifa’s presence? Why wasn’t that investigated?

All in all, J6 was disturbing because it got out of control (Nancy Pelosi was much at fault), America looked bad, but even worse was how Congress handled the discovery process. It shows how close the Democrats came to creating a fascist dictatorship.

      3. Yes, even on this blog, we see members of the left who sound violent, have no dignity, lack knowledge, and cannot discuss an issue based on facts. You sound like one of them.

  9. Are Democrats ever going to give us the definition of “Democracy,” they are using because I don’t believe they even know what democracy is. It surely isn’t fleeing a state to prevent a….vote. It isn’t trying to remove your political opponents from ballots or imprisoning or bankrupting them…

  10. *. PT, this is bizarre but also common today. Half the people think the government is there to do something for the people. They don’t see the Constitution as limits. Hashmi wants the government to provide abortion for anyone wanting that and medicaid for everyone. The reality is the government shouldn’t be in either arena.

    Fatigued

    1. We could all use a little Shabbat in our lives.

      A Typical Shabbat

At about 2PM or 3PM on Friday afternoon, observant Jews leave the office to begin Shabbat preparations. The mood is much like preparing for the arrival of a special, beloved guest: the house is cleaned, the family bathes and dresses up, the best dishes and tableware are set, a festive meal is prepared. In addition, everything that cannot be done during Shabbat must be set up in advance: lights and appliances must be set (or timers placed on them, if the household does so), the light bulb in the refrigerator must be removed, so it does not turn on when you open it, and preparations for the remaining Shabbat meals must be made.

The Shabbat, like all Jewish days, begins at sunset, because in the story of creation in Genesis Ch. 1, you will notice that it says, “And there was evening, and there was morning, one day.” From this, we infer that a day begins with evening, that is, sunset. Shabbat candles are lit and a blessing is recited no later than eighteen minutes before sunset. This ritual, performed by the woman of the house, officially marks the beginning of the Shabbat. Two candles are lit, representing the two commandments: zachor and shamor.

The family then attends a brief evening service (45 minutes – that’s brief by Jewish standards – see Jewish Liturgy).

After services, the family comes home for a festive, leisurely dinner. Before dinner, it is customary for parents to bless their children. Then the man of the house recites Kiddush, a prayer over wine sanctifying the Shabbat. The usual prayer for eating bread is recited over two loaves of challah, a sweet, eggy bread shaped in a braid. The family then eats dinner. Although there are no specific requirements or customs regarding what to eat, meals are generally stewed or slow cooked items, because of the prohibition against cooking during the Shabbat. (Things that are mostly cooked before Shabbat and then reheated or kept warm are OK).

After dinner, the birkat ha-mazon (grace after meals) is recited. Although this is done every day, on the Shabbat, it is done in a leisurely manner with many upbeat tunes.

By the time all of this is completed, it may be 9PM or later. The family has an hour or two to talk or study Torah, and then go to sleep.

The next morning Shabbat services begin around 9AM and continue until about noon. After services, the family says kiddush again and has another leisurely, festive meal. A typical afternoon meal is cholent, a very slowly cooked stew. By the time birkat ha-mazon is done, it is about 2PM. The family studies Torah for a while, talks, takes an afternoon walk, plays some checkers, or engages in other leisure activities. A short afternoon nap is not uncommon. It is traditional to have a third meal before the Shabbat is over. This is usually a light meal in the late afternoon.

Shabbat ends at nightfall, when three stars are visible, approximately 40 minutes after sunset. At the conclusion of Shabbat, the family performs a concluding ritual called Havdalah (separation, division). Blessings are recited over wine, spices and candles. Then a blessing is recited regarding the division between the sacred and the secular, between the Shabbat and the working days, etc.

As you can see, Shabbat is a very full day when it is properly observed, and very relaxing. You really don’t miss being unable to turn on the TV, drive a car or go shopping.

      1. Jews, Jews you say, Estovir? And the taco vendors prepare for Sunday mass led by the catholic ayotollah? 😏

        What do the Pollaks do?

    2. Many people think Jews who don’t follow every Orthodox rule are violating the Sabbath. But Judaism isn’t one-size-fits-all. Not all Jews are Orthodox, and not all worship the same way.

There’s a difference between being religious and being righteous. Religiosity is what people see: the rituals, the rules, the public image. It matters because it keeps Jewish life alive. Without it, our faith would have vanished long ago. But religiosity isn’t the goal; morality and character are.

The Torah’s purpose isn’t to show how pious we look; it’s to shape how we act. If our observance doesn’t lead to decency, kindness, and integrity, we’ve missed the point. Shabbat was given to renew the soul, not display it on one’s sleeve. True faith isn’t measured by how it looks from the outside, but by the goodness it produces on the inside.
