Virginia Attorney General Candidate Jay Jones Accused of Additional Violent Rhetoric

.(Jay Jones/YouTube)

Jay Jones, Virginia’s Democratic attorney general candidate, is under fire for shocking statements that expressed a desire to kill political opponents and their young “fascist” children. Despite the violent rhetoric, Democrats like Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in Virginia, have stood by Jones and continue to campaign for his election. Now, however, Jones is accused of making disturbing comments about the benefit of killing a few cops as a warning to others. It is unclear whether the alleged comments were made in writing (as were earlier comments), and Jones has denied them.

Virginia has become a testing ground for rage rhetoric as Democrats stand by Jones and refuse to call for his withdrawal. Spanberger herself was criticized recently for calling on supporters to “Let your rage fuel you.”

What is notable about this latest allegation is that it is coming from the very same legislator who discussed the prior statements, which Jones admitted were true.

According to the New York Post, Republican Del. Carrie Coyner told Virginia Scope on Monday, Jones used a 2020 discussion about qualified immunity to suggest that a few dead cops might be a good thing. She recounted how Jones allegedly said, “Well, maybe if a few of them died, that they would move on, not shooting people, not killing people.”

Jones denied the new allegations: “I did not say this. I have never believed and do not believe that any harm should come to law enforcement, period.”

It is unclear whether Coyner has proof of the new alleged statements.

Jones has not threatened a defamation lawsuit over the allegation. If untrue, the statement could constitute defamation as impugning Jones’s reputation and veracity as a public figure. However, as a public official, he is subject to the New York Times v. Sullivan standard and would have to show a knowing falsehood or reckless disregard for the truth on the part of Rep. Coyner.

  1. A defamation lawsuit would be pointless if it was an unrecorded conversation as it would be impossible to prove falsity. It’s the same reason our famously litigious president has not filed a lawsuit over the alleged pee tapes, On another matter, do any of us have a clear demarcation between anger and rage. I haven’t read the Prof’s book, so maybe he explains what he means. In any case, how do you handle someone saying “no I’m just angry but it’s not rage”.

    1. Do people become “famously litigious” when they’re obsessively slandered, libeled and defamed to a degree we’ve never seen in American history?

    2. Rage is defined as violent, uncontrollable anger. Climbing walls of the Capitol building when the stairs are just next to them is an act of rage.

  2. Did Jones say anything worse than the standard Trump created? Probably don’t want to keep score on that one.

    1. If true the statement about dead cops being helpful is beyond “proper use of force in police encounters”.

  3. During the Virginia debates or a national reporter needs to ask each AG candidate:

“As Virginia Attorney General, will you sue in court to overturn as unconstitutional one of the most unAmerican, ungodly and evil laws ever practiced by any state government – Virginia’s Writ of Innocence”.

The vast majority of police officers and prosecutors are the bravest and best public servants that are loyal to their oath of office, but even though most are honorable, there are a small percentage that are highly corrupt, highly incompetent or highly careless in their top duty to uphold the U.S. Constitution and Virginia Constitution (oath of office).

In America, the burden of proof is not on the “accused”. Nobody in America has to prove they are innocent. The burden is on the “accusers” – law enforcement or prosecutors.

So in Virginia, totally innocent citizens can spend decades in prison for a crime they didn’t commit and even if the cause was premeditated corruption or premeditated fabrication of evidence by police and/or prosecutors.

Even after that corruption is proven that it resulted in an unfair trial and conviction. In Virginia, that totally innocent person sits in prison years after being exonerated. If that trial were held today that person never would have been convicted.

Virginia follows the justice system of a foreign nation (not America’s justice system) forces totally innocent people to prove that they are innocent forcing them to jump through hoops with a Writ of Innocence. Even if the police officer or prosecutor was found guilty in court of intentional fraud. Virginia has known about these unconstitutional practices at least since the Innocence Project forced them to confront flawed DNA evidence.

This foreign justice system mindset has broad implications like covert blacklisting – where Virginia authorities punish citizens covertly never confronted and never given constitutional due process. Since 2001, Virginia authorities uploaded suspicious persons (no conviction, no criminal record) as far back as the 1980’s onto post-9/11 blacklists (likely to illegally grab 9/11 federal grant money). So Virginia authorities placed citizens with no trial or conviction onto federal and international (INTERPOL) blacklists to game the system, destroying the credibility of totally innocent Virginia citizens.

Whoever is elected the next Virginia Attorney General this lawsuit to overturn this unconstitutional practice should be the #1 priority. It has to happen by January for the Virginia General Assembly to overturn this unAmerican, ungodly and evil practice. Is the America press up to the job?

    1. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois charged 37-year-old Juan Espinoza Martinez, who is an alleged leader of the Chicago gang Latin Kings, with one count of murder-for-hire.

      WOW…

    2. The good news, since Virginia’s Writ of Innocence is blatantly unconstitutional it doesn’t require a constitutional amendment to overturn it. The Virginia General Assembly could overturn it today if they wanted to.

  4. This again? Geez. I’m sure Professor Turley understands that this is Virginia politics. They have elections every year. The unconfirmed allegations are just allegations from Republican Delegate Coyner who is obviously engaging in dirty politics of spreading innuendo and rumors. The private text from Jones which was obviously leaked and was made before he was running for office seems to be standard political fare. Not some sinister agenda of violence. Professor Turley is merely enabling Republican false narratives for political purposes. Not real introspection about “rage rhetoric”.

When the Professor uses Spanberger’s “Let the rage fuel you” comment as an example of violent rhetoric he’s being deliberately dishonest. The quote has been taken out of context as most quotes are when political opponents cherry-pick quotes for political advantage. There was nothing violent about that quote. Rage itself is not violent. Rage can be described as an expression of anger and frustration. Both are good motivators for encouraging voters to express their opposition to policies they don’t like. Republicans use rage all the time to energize their base.

You see it here on the blog. Those on the right are constantly raging about the left. Sometimes they make comments involving violent fantasies and extreme punishments because…they are the left. Professor Turley’s campaign against rage rhetoric and the “age of rage” may be a noble intent. But he’s adding to it by enraging those on the right with intentionally misleading articles like these. knowing his MAGA readers are too lazy or ignorant to dig into the details of the claims. It’s meant to fuel THEIR rage. Which is contrary to his anti-rage views.

Ironically the Professor is completely ignoring the violent rage rhetoric of Stephen Miller, Trump’s trusty advisor and unhinged fascist. Rage and violent rhetoric come out of the white house nearly every day. Trump is clearly stoking protesters and governors with his own rage rhetoric and provoking protesters into committing violence so he can justify sending in the military. There are even reports of ICE making false 911 calls in Chicago to justify claims of increased violence. Turns out most of those calls are false reports. The president and especially Miller want to provoke the violence they claim is the reason they are deploying the national guard and active military to Democratic cities. Fascists do that as a tactic to justify extreme use of force and paint a picture of chaos that does not exist.

Perhaps Professor Turley should spend more time reviewing what is coming out of the White House instead of rumors and allegations. Sadly it may threaten his contract with Fox News and we may never see a real objective analysis of rage rhetoric in the “age of rage”.

    1. So george.
YOU think it’s OK to called for the murder of children?

This shows the world how low the dems have gone.

      1. I don’t think it’s ok. But it is not known if the statement is true. Professor Turley is engaging in political innuendo and spreading uncomfirmed rumors. Did he really say that? We don’t know. Is it wrong to say something like that, yes. Is it still free speech? Absolutely.

You think it’s ok for ICE to zip tie little children while naked and drag them outside onto a van? I didn’t see any outrage from conservatives about that particular inhumane treatment of children.

        1. You think it’s ok for ICE to zip tie little children while naked and drag them outside onto a van?
          _______________________
          george… try again. That is a tick-tock video. It’s fake….

Next time try checking before speaking.

          1. That was not fake. Reports from witnesses confirmed it. The fact that the raid happened at 1 am was to ensure nobody was around to record it.

            1. Rabble:
Witnesses, yet I have yet to see any actual video evidence. Given today’s preponderance of phones whipping out at the slightest notion, why have no videos come forward of these alleged actions?
Also, I find it funny, Georgie, that when your side does anything, it’s “alleged,” but when it’s someone or some group you disagree with, they are de-facto “guilty,” regardless of what else is discovered.

              1. Can’t get to a phone when the door is kicked in at 1 am with masked armed men pointing guns into the faces of the victims. There is a reason that few robberies and car jackings get recorded; same M.O. People reported that many of the belongings were also stolen by ICE; computers and cell phones, for example. The sort of devices that could possibly store those recordings.

The reports are from US Citizens whose rights were clearly violated; there was no need to embellish Hundreds of US Citizens had their homes invaded, their freedom stripped from them, their possessions destroyed or stolen, and then left with an uninhabitable space they used to live in.

Today I saw an ICE sniper hit a priest in the head with a close-range shot from a rubber bullet, driving the man to his knees. The priest presented no danger to anyone.

          2. Dustoff, X has to be a paid idiot because nobody would spend so much time defending every bad idea, policy, comment or action of Democrats unless there was money in it for her.

X is just Harry Sisson or one of the other soy boys and girls that is paid by Democrats and their allies.

            1. HullBobby,
CNN Spreads Anti-ICE Lie After Being Duped By TikTok Skit
              https://dailycaller.com/2025/10/06/cnn-anti-ice-lie-tiktok-skit
So a Tik Tock “parody,” yet there are witnesses? And none of these witnesses have video recordings? In this day and age of smartphones nearly everywhere? Especially when ICE is involved? How credible does that sound? And where are the news interviews with these witnesses?

        2. The “new” claims appear to be from a conversation and possible unable to be verified. However, the texts were saved and are unquestioned. https://www.newsweek.com/what-did-jay-jones-say-full-text-messages-10834123 So, instead of dealing with the subject at hand you seek to distract by changing the subject to “naked children zip tie etc.” Changing the subject is an open admission that the position you want to take on the actual subject of the thread is untenable.

    2. … who is obviously engaging in dirty politics of spreading innuendo and rumors.

Says the paid George Soros DNC troll who engages in spreading innuendo and rumors.

    3. “This again? Geez.” GeorgeX again?

Nobody ever saw this happening! The chauffeur of the Democrat Stooges Clown Car shows up for work after getting his pep top at CNN.

    4. “Professor Turley’s campaign against rage rhetoric and the “age of rage” may be a noble intent.”

Turley is paid by those who fan the flames of rage. His continuously sounding the the “rage” warning is itself a driver of rage. Turley could provide an analysis of how the fanning works, how it is a lie intended to distract, but he’s apparently well compensated, either with cash or with notoriety, to never do that.

  5. Likely, he expressed some such extreme anti-cop views in 2020. Even back the Blue types had concerns, and at a minimum reflected upon law enforcement action and power presiding over citizen death under their watch after viewing George Floyd. The widespread Leftist mobs and funded “protests” that organized to burn, loot, and publicly rage with Democratic support and the lack of allowed police response to it was also commented upon by good people on both sides. Jones can clarify and put in context, his emotion-driven comments from this period and maintain his denial of the exact wording. Carrie Coyer’s recent text revelation and this verbal accusation are only now being revealed in that she honestly believes her former colleague is unqualified from position of AG. Ahead of an election this is fully expected and anticipated, every bit as much as the 2016 Billy Bush audio of Trump’s “locker room” comments and other revelations on the seedier side of DJT’s free and private speech. All of this is used to blunt one sides’ voter turnout, sway the middle, and inspire one’s own side to turn out and vote. This is what democracy looks like. Perhaps Athenian candidates underwent similar character scrutiny and accusation.

    1. 86, I think you are misusing 2020 in your argument. You seem to be saying that after George Floyd of course Jones was right to be outraged at cops when in reality the left used the criminal George Floyd as an excuse to burn down cities in order to make Trump’s time in office appear chaotic.

The country was driven insane in 2020 in order to facilitate Trump’s defeat. We had a nationwide lockdown…except for people wanting to protest for racial issues???How does that work? We had schools closed for over a year in blue states and cops, nurses and military people getting fired for not getting vaxed…as the same guys allowed 10 million UNVAXED people into the country. We had bans on going to see grandma in hospice as we had George Floyd’s three funerals and John Lewis getting a national send off. We had white idiots shining black people’s shoes. We had Democrats wearing some sort of pathetic virtue signaling scarf. We had defund the police. We had medicare for all. We had trans in the army, trans in the WH, trans everywhere including kindergarten.

2020 is no excuse for Jay Jones calling for cops to die.2020 is no excuse for Jones to be saying maybe if his opponents suffered they would change their policies.

      PS. Try paragraphs next time.

  6. Which is why sane people do not vote for Democrats – because either the Democrat is a proponent of violence, or will stand by another Democrat who is a proponent of violence.

    1. flyod, you obviously are not sane, yet you vote rep. And promoted violence in your past comments.

      1. Thx for the link! Just read it, and right on point. Same thing Kunstler has been saying for a while.

“The Democratic Party is likewise demonstrably insane. Look no further than the mobs calling themselves Antifa and Transtifa assaulting the federal immigration buildings around the country and promising overtly to injure and even kill their opponents. These are not mere protesters, and everyone knows it, including the upper echelons of the party. They are a riffraff of the violent mentally ill committing criminal acts. Many of them are getting paid for their capers by shadowy NGOs, backed by deranged billionaires. In the case of Portland, Oregon, they have been protected for years by the political establishment, including the governor, the mayor, the police, who will not arrest them, and DAs who won’t prosecute them.

They are ostensibly devoted to stopping the deportation of illegal immigrants, but that is really just the most convenient sob-story to hang their real intentions on — which are to destroy the country currently configured as a Republic and bring on a despotic utopia of free stuff — liquidating anyone who opposes them in the process. They are not all communists, strictly speaking, but the utopia they seek certainly smells like the nightmare societies operated by Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot.

  7. The written statements are difficult to hear from a candidate and he should probably withdraw and/or apologize for saying them. Both to the public and to the person he basically threatened.
The supposed conversation really has no meaning or sign of proof. I could conjure up any such statement and so could any reader of this column. It should have no impact and I would give it no credence if I was a Virginia voter. You need proof, not just a wild imagination. I realize that the Democrats have conjured up such unsupported statements over the years that have caused apparent harm but that does not mean that they should be imitated.
Their deeds are enough to vote against them. We don’t need fake reports or conversations.

    1. What about those difficult statements Trump constantly makes? Yet you pay no heed… his deeds are ?

        1. Read on watch the news. Maybe where you exist they don’t have plumbing and electricity yet. Its coming.

          1. Rabble:
No, you make the claim, back it up with your damn sources! Or, are you like Larry O’D on MSNBC where “oh, we won’t show you the vile, heated, racist videos the president is publishing, we won’t give any time for it. However, we will dedicate an entire block of programming to tell you why it’s evil and racist.”
Back it up with a source, senator! And don’t say you made it the f*** up!

  8. <strongVirginia police union calls on Democrat candidate for AG to resign over sending violent texts
“While this incident may have occurred in 2022, this conduct has no place in our society or democracy, especially from an elected official who is running to be the top prosecutor in Virginia,” the FOP wrote. “The men and women of the Virginia Fraternal Order unequivocally condemn these violent text messages sent by you about a political opponent and his family.”

“Therefore, the members of the Virginia Fraternal Order of Police believe that you, Jay Jones, are unfit for the office of Attorney General of Virginia. It is time you hold yourself accountable for these actions and withdraw from the Attorney General race immediately,” they also wrote.

    https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/elections/virginia-police-union-calls-jay-jones-withdraw-attorney-general-race

    1. Why did you post that, couldn’t you have just used your own words… VA cops don’t support that guy?

        1. to show you have comprehension skills. You’re the dumbest one on this website. And its now obvious you don’t have comprehension skills.

          1. I comprehend Jones texted some truly disturbing, violent words. He then owned up to it.
I comprehend the VA Virginia Fraternal Order of Police believes, ““Therefore, the members of the Virginia Fraternal Order of Police believe that you, Jay Jones, are unfit for the office of Attorney General of Virginia. It is time you hold yourself accountable for these actions and withdraw from the Attorney General race immediately.”
It is not difficult to understand. What needs to be said more?

  9. I recall a Republican candidate losing his political his political career because he misspelled potato or tomato. He was driven out by the MSM. The Dems and their media allies have come a long way since then.

    1. And I can remember a Presidential candidate who was DQed for his continued sexual promiscuity. Later, a Senator who was also a Presidential candidate, was DQed for plagiarism. Years later, he did become POTUS, in spite of continued problems with plagiarism. As it turned out, that was the least of his problems, and he was likely the least of our Presidents.

    2. Not because he misspelled a word – Dan Quayle bullied a child who had spelled it correctly, insisting he was correct. Worse, he was toeing the line from a misspelled flashcard. Plus, this was one in a long line of instances where he’d shown political ineptitude.

Recall that Nixon was nearly wiped from the map because he sweated in the debate with Kennedy. Dukakis for riding in a military tank. The candidate from Alaska for not knowing the name of any magazine after claiming that’s where she got most of her information.

While some incident is blamed, the real damage is from being unlikable.

  10. How can you expect the democrat party to ask this guy to step down or distance themselves from him when there is no democrat party? This “party” has been conditioning broken minds with “resist”, “get in their face”, “fight”, “deplorable’s” for how many years now? There is no democrat party.

        1. Since you’re here 24/7, why don’t you do the research find “that kind of rhetoric”. Can you handle it?

          1. So what you are saying is you cannot. If that kind of rhetoric is so prevalent as you claim by Margot, you should be able to easily come up with some examples.

            1. @UpstateFarmer – We both violated rule #1: We feed the Blue Banana this morning. We have to watch that infraction.

      1. Anonymous says:
Same rhetoric you used here numerous times.

Enter the Blue Banana. For your benefit, there is no democrat party. Now you can go back to BS and Reddit.

  11. Several years ago, a staff member of Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli told me – the Virginia AG’s job is NOT to protect the rights of Virginia citizens. After promising GOD to protect our constitutional rights (oath of office).

The very same week Cuccinelli publicly stated to a religious right crowd that his job was to protect them.

A large percentage of Virginia voters support government theocracy – they oppose religious freedom and think the government should impose a religious interpretation onto citizens. Contrary to the Declaration of Independence, contrary to the First Amendment and contrary to Section 3 of Article VI of the U.S. Constitution.

    1. if you actually had two testicles between your legs, you wouldn’t be commenting anonymously, and your words might actually have some meaning. As it is now you’re just a clown in a circus

  12. Jay Jones is clearly a loudmouth fool, who is seeking an office far beyond his abilities. Yet, I wonder more about the rationale of those who support him. The narcotic draw of political power seems to outweigh judgement among democrats.

    1. Yes … it is the people who vote and they are ultimately responsible for the state of their STATE and COUNTRY! It is time for voter IDs at the poles and to get back to one day voting with only absentee ballots. We need to make sure all citizens have the right to vote — but only our citizens. If we want to protect the integrity of our country, then the citizens should decide by their votes and not people who have no vested interested in the ‘will of the people’ — the American citizen.

      Why is this so controversial?

  13. The same violent rhetoric is all over this blog, yet Turley does nothing about it. So, Turley is a hypocrite.

    1. if you actually had two testicles between your legs, you wouldn’t be commenting anonymously, and your words might actually have some meaning. As it is now you’re just a clown in a circus

    2. Really?! The comments are from us and we are still allowed free speech. You included. Stop blaming JT for keeping us informed. I do not read anything from people on this thread about killing or brining about violence. Then, JT would say something to be sure!

    3. Please point out where and who has used, “The same violent rhetoric is all over this blog, yet Turley does nothing about it.”

        1. That second person who is really you, cannot provide examples of all this prevalent violent rhetoric on the good professor’s blog. If it is so prevalent as you claim, you should be able to easily provide examples.

  14. Another witness would strengthen the allegation. That said, his original statement, in writing, should be sufficient to DQ him from public office. Visceral hatred is troubling. The suggestion of murder is, or should be, unacceptable. And the suggestion of murdering children is unconscionable.

    1. The benefit of the doubt is never afforded to Republican candidates or office holders by the left.

        1. Wise of you, whig.

Do unto others as you would have done unto you…you said it, Mr. Jones, not I.
