Iowa Student Arrested After Two Attacks on Conservative Displays on Campus

Justin Calhoon mugshotThis week, we have another attack on a display by conservative students at a U.S. university. Student members of Turning Point USA watched as a student, Justice Calhoon, flipped over their table at the University of Iowa. Notably, Calhoon had previously tossed a table of the school’s Young America’s Foundation (YAF) just days before. Calhoon has now been arrested.

The complaint says that Calhoon came from a residence hall and was displaying “disruptive and aggressive behavior.” The officer noted that “[u]pon arrival, Defendant disrupted their assembly by flipping the groups [sic] table, made obscene gestures, and shouted profanity, including ‘s— my d—,’ while flipping off the group.”

Calhoon was arrested and charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, fifth-degree criminal mischief and two counts of third-degree harassment.

His federal arrest was linking to an Oct. 27 X post in which he allegedly said “I’m gonna kill Donald Trump, idgaf.”

The affidavit stated that “He explained he posted on social media about how he wanted to kill Nazis. He said it feels like Nazism and Fascism is on the rise. He stated he doesn’t want to kill people but his honest opinion some powerful people should be killed.”

He also claimed online that he killed Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk:

“Cry harder,” the comment said. “Every day, hundreds of frail little kids in palestine [sic] die. Charlie Kirk spoke out, not to END their suffering but IN FAVOR of it. That was his free speech. My free speech is this: I Derek S Lopez, killed him. I killed Charlie Kirk.”

The important thing to remember is that this was a person that someone at the university felt should be a teaching assistant.

These incidents show the sense of license and righteous rage of many on campuses today. That is fed by a culture of orthodoxy and viewpoint intolerance that pervades higher education in the United States today.

  1. Defendant disrupted their assembly by flipping the groups [sic] table, made obscene gestures, and shouted profanity, including ‘s— my d—,’ while flipping off the group.”

HE SEEMS CONFUSED- HE IS A DUDE HE WANTS TO BE A GIRL, BUT WANTS TO REFERENCE HIS BOY PARTS- GO FIGURE

  2. On top of everything else, the photograph of the perp accompanying this article seems to be of a female; the oddness is reinforced by the fact that the article is linguistically constructed in such a way that the use of the relevant pronoun (i.e. ‘he’ or ‘she’) is avoided.

  3. If this was a conservative student who overturned a planned parenthood table, I can’t help but think that the full weight of the entire apparatus would come down hard after the first incident. The media would pick it up and it would be the focus of a huge “the rise of right-wing hate on campus” narrative.

    1. I wondered if the person pictured is a man or woman too. (Part of the comment he or she made would imply it’s a male…) But about your statement, you said: “…I don’t want to offend THEM by misgendering THEM.” For what it’s worth, your comment plays into that “misgendering” agenda. Better to say: “I don’t want to offend “HIM OR HER by misgendering HIM OR HER.”

  4. Violence is now being fully accepted by the left. This guy wants to kill Trump. A man said he imagined killing the children of his political opponent because they are little nazis. I’m sure that his imaginings were in living color. He surely imagined the red blood and white brain matter spilling onto their mother’s dress as she held them as they died. Thats what bullets do. In joyous celebration he related the story of his imagination and the following sheep elected the wolf anyway. A past leader of Germany imagined the shooting of jewish children and rejoicing at seeing their brain matter and pieces of skull spewed upon the cobblestone streets. The shooters laughed and smoked cigarettes. The graphics are necessary to illustrate the reality of their imaginations. It’s all now a required qualification to be electable in The Democratic Party.

    1. Violence has always been accepted by the left. It’s just that when they’re getting everything they want, they don’t feel a need to use it all that much.

  5. Henry David Thoreau’s essay, “Civil Disobedience” (originally titled “Resistance to Civil Government”), argues that individuals have a moral duty to disobey unjust laws and government actions. Inspired by his own imprisonment for refusing to pay taxes that supported slavery and the Mexican-American War, Thoreau advocates for NON VIOLENT RESISTANCE based on individual conscience over blind obedience to the state. The work has profoundly influenced later movements and leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. Unlike these cowardly table over turners he did not run away but promptly turned himself over to be incarcerated for his actions. Gandhi and King proudly held out their hands and said cuff me. These were courageous men. The table over turners are cowards who will rely on their rich daddies to bail them out of jail and pay for their defense. They sure do hate the rich guys unless it’s their rich guy daddies.

    1. Thoreau didn’t run away, but he also didn’t turn himself in. And a rich relative likely did pay multiple years of taxes after he spent one night in jail. But he was civilly disobedient and stated his reasons.

      1. He made previous statements saying that if a person desires to protest he must be willing to suffer the consequences. A relative may have paid his back taxes but he himself still refused to do so.
Henry David Thoreau: A War Tax Resistance Inspiration.
Henry David Thoreau’s back taxes were paid by his aunt, Maria Thoreau, who paid the tax against his wishes to get him out of jail. He was willing to stay in jail but the authorities were happy to accept the payment of his taxes to keep him from being seen as a martyr. Leaving out all the facts is not telling the truth.

    2. Henry David Thoreau was a leach.; child of a very successful family, but a leach none the less. Walden pond was in the back yard of a wealthy friend.

Jesus was supposed to be a table flipper of those who profaned the temple. Seems a good match for this occasion.

The bad news is that this is exactly what the Turning Point cult is based on – to show that the world is hostile to their ideas and to gain total submission to the cause of the Turning Point backers – a small group of billionaires who paid Charlie Kirk to reel in the suckers.

      1. “Jesus was supposed to be a table flipper of those who profaned the temple.” What temple are you seeing, here? The left’s temple of “the university”? That temple was built for intellectual advancement of society not political rot of society.

  6. *. It’s a male female world and the purpose of life is reproduction of the species.

In the words of James Brown– this is a man’s world but it ain’t nothin without a woman or a girl.

    Floyd, post the song. 😉

  7. So, no one thought the name “Justice Calhoon” was amusing? I had a hard time reading the article after seeing that.

  8. Here is the problem with conservatives: This 100 pound dude, who looks like a girl walks away unscathed. Beat the crap out of “her”.

    1. BillyG, Martin Luther King proved that a violent response is not an effective way to get your point across. This is why we have laws in this nation to penalize those who would damage the property of others. I sympathize with your outrage but responding in kind would only result in the leftist press placing all the blame on the TPUSA people. It’s not hard to see that these young people have been trained in the Martin Luther King rules of response to violent attacks. Be cool. Martin was.

      1. Violence worked for George Washington. The violence of the Black Panthers encouraged people to take the higher oath with MLK.
