The pledges of new impeachments are ominous going into the midterm elections, where Democrats appear to be promising more of the same dysfunctional efforts to use this constitutional process for raw partisan advantage. Even with those who oppose Trump Administration policies, it is hard to believe that a majority of Americans want to return to the same chaos of the first term.

I agree with Professor Turley about the excessive use of impeachment. Trying to impeach RFK Jr. for the reasons she states is indeed silly. However….her concerns are still valid. RFK Jr. is still not really the right person for the job. His suggestions, ideas, and yes, his penchant for relying on conspiracy theories so wacky and nutty do undermine his credibility.
RFK Jr’s idea about the harms of ultra-processed food products artificial dyes, and certain preservatives are some of the few things a majority of Americans agree with including me. But…those good ideas are often overshadowed by his wacky and oftentimes truly creepy or just plain stupid views on other things.
As far as the “censoring” or “silencing” of opposing views in the scientific community Professor Turley’s view is flawed. He’s basically arguing that those who believe the earth is still flat vs. the more widely accepted and proven view that the earth is spherical should be considered as equally valid theories. Huh…no. Even though flat-earthers are an opposing view it is not even close to being equal in terms of the current accepted and proven view that the earth is spherical. Denying flat-earth theory to be used as a valid alternative is not censorship or silencing their views. It’s just no longer a valid theory because through science and even through their own experiments it’s been proven to be wrong.
There were similar ideas and views proposed during the pandemic that were “opposing views” being used as an excuse to claim they were being silenced or censored because they were more likely to cause harm to the public. Government officials are charged not only to disseminate information that is not rooted in conspiracy theory or poor scientific vetting, but also they are charged with ensuring the safety of the population.
