Jennifer Welch Declares that Kirk “Justified” His Own Assassination

In an age of rage, the loudest lunatic reigns supreme. The sudden rise of Jennifer Welch vividly proves that regrettable fact. Welch is the face of rage, spewing hate-filled attacks to feed a rage addiction on the left. She is also an example of how many on the left call for censorship to combat disinformation, but constitute some of the greatest sources of such false and misleading stories. This week offers another such example. After attacking Charlie Kirk’s widow as a “grifter,” Welch declared that Kirk “justified” his own killing. The basis for that disgraceful claim is a false viral claim that Kirk shrugged off the killing of school kids from gun violence. Despite being repeatedly debunked, liberals like Welch continue to spread the claim.

Welch told former CNN host Don Lemon:

“The person that I heard that justified his death was him. He’s the one that said on tape that if school kids die, but it means he gets to have a Second Amendment, then that’s what it’s going to be. He’s the one that justified it.

And I believe at the time of shooting, he was talking about gun violence at the time. That’s wild to me, number one. And then for her — I want to get your opinion on this as a Black man — for her to say that people are dehumanizing Charlie Kirk.”

Kirk’s assassination presented a dual inconvenience for many: having to express sorrow for the death of someone with opposing views while acknowledging only the latest example of political violence by the left.

The solution was to shrug off the murder as another example of “asking for it.” I have heard such views on my own campus. To justify such a despicable, amoral position, many latched onto a series of false claims from Kirk, calling Asians a vile term, to this ridiculous claim.

The key to feeding a rage addiction is also to assure your customers that it is not their fault and that their hate is justified. The false story about Kirk dismissing the killing of children offers precisely that license to get your hate on with Jennifer Welch.

Obviously, such rage rhetoric occurs on both sides. Indeed, President Donald Trump responded to the murder of critic Rob Reiner by suggesting that his “Trump Derangement Syndrome” was somehow connected to his death. (Reiner’s son has been arrested). The Truth Social posting was a callous posting and should be deleted.

Kirk was responding to a question about defending the Second Amendment. He pointed out that this constitutional right is “is there, God forbid, so that you can defend yourself against a tyrannical government.” However, he acknowledged that  “having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty.” He then responded to the claim that this right is killing people and that it is not worth a single life. Kirk argued that there will clearly always be examples of gun violence and that it is ridiculous to treat the right as invalid if such deaths occur:

“You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won’t have a single gun death. That is nonsense. It’s drivel. But I am — I think it’s worth it. I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe.”

Kirk, who was deeply religious and had children of his own, never dismissed the deaths of school children. He was saying that, despite tragic deaths, the right was still essential in our constitutional system. Anyone who favors the right inherently holds the same view that abuses of such rights can occur, but that does not mean that the right itself is illegitimate.

It is the type of low-grade argument made against the right of free speech. In debates, I am often confronted with those citing hate speech or disinformation to support censorship. Critics will cite how the Nazis use free speech, even repeating the false claim that free speech was somehow responsible for bringing Hitler to power. CBS anchor Margaret Brennan even suggested that free speech contributed to the holocaust.

The point is that people will abuse free speech as they will abuse gun rights. They will also abuse religious rights and associational rights in committing crimes. The point is that these rights are greater than such abuses. That was the point that Kirk was making.

None of this matters, of course. Welch has found her niche on the hate spectrum. The New York Times even did a largely favorable profile because she has the right type of hate.

She and others will continue not only to inject it directly into the veins of her listeners but also to fan the rage by assuring them that they are not at fault. They are not hateful in engaging in such hateful rhetoric. It is not your problem, it is their problem.

That is the whole point of a podcast called “I’ve had it.” Many have had it with civility, decency, and accuracy. What remains is sheer mendacity and madness.

  1. Professor Turley,

WELCH: “He’s the one that said on tape that if school kids die, but it means he gets to have a Second Amendment, then that’s what it’s going to be. He’s the one that justified it.”

YOU: “despite tragic deaths, the right was still essential in our constitutional system.”

Where’s the daylight here? These statements are essentially the same, i.e., gun rights are worth the cost of collateral damage.

And I say this as a libertarian who supports the Second Amendment and this point from Kirk (and Welch).

There is nothing wrong with summarizing this argument in the way that Welch has.

It is the same with the First Amendment. Supporting free speech comes with the unfortunate consequence of having to hear ignorant and offensive things on our airwaves and online.

I just didn’t think that group of ignorant speech would include the words of our dear professor.

    1. At work, we referred to people who say and do things as Turley does as “diode”. Sometimes also referred to as “holding down the transmit button”. In both cases it was an observation that the person not only would not shut up, but that the transmission was solely one-way and that there would never be any sign of that person understanding that what they said was either incomplete or incorrect because they would never listen to anyone.

Frequently it was simply a matter that the person was told what to say and their compensation depended on them saying it. The VP of operations telling a room of engineers that the engineers needed to be concerned about cash flow. Really? Isn’t that what the management is supposed to be concerned about? Clearly code for “the engineers aren’t going to get raises, the building won’t get repairs, and the board of directors is going to send a big pile of cash to major investors as the place gets gutted.”

Turley is leaning to the same direction, but his influences come from the American oligarchy and it is America they want to harvest. Kirk was one of the oligarch’s direct reports and it ticks them off as he was great at getting sheep in line to be sheared and slaughtered. Per financial statements, TPUSA brought in $84 Million in 2024, but Kirk, the founder, was only getting $250k while someone with zero public information was getting $400k to watch him.

They are desperate to preserve the patina that Charlie Kirk was a good Christian, something at odds with being a conservative, and the more people go over what Charlie Kirk actually said and actually meant, the more that the patina gets worn off to reveal the pot-metal core.

The main outcome of the shooting of Charlie Kirk is that, in a year or two, there is very likely to be a new Second Lady of the White House, a very white and very “Christian” woman, the way the conservatives want it to be, and ready for a J. D. Vance run for President with the direct backing of whoever actually operates TPUSA.

Make no mistake. Turley isn’t ignorant. What he says is carefully calculated to influence those who are to be fed to the oligarchs. He is Charlie Kirk with the charisma squeezed out.

      1. At work, we referred to people who say and do things as Turley does as “diode”.

At my old job, we referred to people like you as “Marxist Useless Idiot liars”. i.e. “a good Christian, something at odds with being a conservative”.

As though the atheist communist Democrats could ever bring themselves to admit that any Republican could be a good Christian, including Charlie Kirk.

    2. *. THEN JUST SAY, ANON, WE DEMAND OUR RIGHT TO BE IMMORAL UNETHICAL PEOPLE AND WE CANNOT BE AROUND GUNS BECAUSE WE’LL MURDER PEOPLE AS IS EVIDENCED OVER AND OVER!

Ironic the Reiners were murdered with a knife. Sincere condolences to the family and may they RIP. Immoral, unethical people can’t be around much anything without destruction happening. Cars, knives, guns, drugs, money, power of any kind ….

  2. Never heard of Jennifer Welch–don’t know who she is and don’t care. Just another piece of MAGA media purchased chum for the disciples, to focus attention away from the Epstein Scandal, Venezuelan boat murder scandals, Trump’s string of court losses, and the latest outrage: Trump actually said that Rob Reiner died because of opposition to him. Here’s what he said: “Reiner ….. was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness.”” SURPASSED ALL GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS OF GREATNESS? WTF? After lying his way into office by promising to lower grocery prices “on day one”, without any plan or ability to do so, Trump has set a new record for low approval ratings, has driven up the cost of everything, including groceries, with his stupid tariffs, managed to piss off most of our allies, is trying to pre-rig the midterms because he KNOWS he’s going to lose, and is poised to take affordable health care away from millions of Americans–all because it is called “Obamacare” and he is insanely jealous of Barak Obama, who remains more popular and successful than he ever could hope to be. Just a small smattering of his failures, but his failure of character and self-centeredness are on display for all to see. Most of us want him gone–ASAP.

Come on, Turley- defend this one if you can.

    1. LOL
You need to get a job with the NY Times, maybe Micheal Steele is looking for some help on his next Trump dossier. Fool

    2. Most of us want him gone ASAP…..you got a mouse in your pocket?

Can you imagine if Obama had gotten another term with Kameltoe? We would be full blown open borders and100 trillion in debt with three wars raging. GFY

    3. It’s not even called Obamacare – it’s the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act, usually reduced to ACA.

The Republicans decided to call it Obamacare because they want those who are covered under it to have that cover removed. They want the insurance companies to run the numbers and deliver the bad news to customers via death panels.

Trump hates Obama because Trump has a thin skin and could not accept being roasted at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. There is a great story by the late Harlan Ellison “The Man Who Was Heavily Into Revenge.” I don’t think the story matches, but the title certainly does.

      1. The Republicans decided to call it Obamacare because they want those who are covered under it to have that cover removed.

Lie. Democrats decided they could sell the lie that it would be affordable (with some large scale lying contracted out to Jonathan Gruber) by gluing Obama’s name to it.

The thin skinned communist Democrats get enraged every time somebody points out that Obamacare, their “Affordable” Care Act, was bankrupting Americans and making health insurance even more unaffordable from the very first day through each successive year since.

  3. Mass shootings and political assassinations are far less a genuine moral outrage than they are convenient for those who want to push to enact “meaningful” firearm/ammunition restrictions upon law-abiding adult citizens (while Newcomer alleged transnational gang members get all they want apparently). These incidents also allow taking to a platform to rail about triggering and justifications for Leftist violence due to speech, philosophy, historic injustice, any reason at all really, and pushing for mass public funding for mental healthcare is a bonus. Leftism’s (Welch’s) expected responses are crafted for effect in their quest to assertively steer public discourse, repel all other views, and ultimately WIN power over the issues and their social-political-class enemies. Mass killings and political assassinations are never allowed to go to waste, and too much law and order also impedes the Progressive-Left movement toward power.

    1. It’s not working. There have been zero significant restrictions on gun sales.

As far as repelling other views, those on the left have a tremendous diversity of other views. They aren’t into worshiping the strong man, would-be dictator and repeating what that guy says. To gain power the left typically moves into the power vacuum left after the conservatives have finished with their slash-and-burn economic harvesting to do damage elsewhere, leaving the former workers to fend when the results of their labor are vanished into billionaire bank accounts.

It is rare that any place that is economically devastated sees Republicans/conservatives come in and revitalize it for the people who are living there – at best, the conservatives buy the property, destroy the existing buildings, and force the previous residents out.

      1. They aren’t into worshiping the strong man, would-be dictator and repeating what that guy says.

Like the police state fascist Barack Obama, who used the FBI as a dictator uses his STASI to take out political opponents?

What your trying is not working. Rachael Maddow has a blog where they welcome communist self-affirming confirmation bias in a designated communist safe space.

  4. Speaking of your book, Professor Turley, what juices Jennifer Welch is the RAGE she creates. This rage heightens her very existence. Of course, she is disturbed, but notice her venues are among the most outrageous. But what is a little encouraging is that fewer and fewer people are listening, inversely related to the filth she spews.

    1. I think you have never seen anyone truly RAGE and so what you say is a massive exaggeration. Just to check. Was there screaming, spittle flying from her mouth, grabbing furniture or small objects and smashing them, grabbing or hitting other people? Those are signs of rage. Was their the impression she would grab or punch an opponent with the intention of hurting them or doing lasting damage?

Or are your feelings hurt because what she said was actually true and you feel rage that you have no other response to having the lies that build your existence torn to shreds?

      About her show:
      Key Metrics & Indicators:
Downloads: Reached nearly 30 million downloads by late 2024 for I’ve Had It.
Social Media: Massive audience reach with over 1.3 million followers on TikTok and 1 million YouTube subscribers, indicating widespread appeal.
Podcast Performance: “I’ve Had It” is a chart-topping show on PodcastOne.
Viral Content: Clips from both shows frequently go viral, driving new listeners to their audio content.

      1. Jerry Springer was a hit, too. People actually went on a program to find out who the baby daddy is for money with an agreed upon mud fight. She’s in the category of The View hoping to join the show. Tabloid TV, a waste of life.

  5. Thank you professor for pointing out how people like her continue to spread misinformation, disinformation all the while clamoring for more censorship. Thank you for setting the record straight as to what she claims Kirk said as to what he actually did say.
As to feeding their addiction to hate and rage, seems that is all they have. It must be so exhausting.

  6. Children who are taught rage and victimhood instead of basic values like integrity, respect for other people, and the value of honest work have a tendency to become angry, amoral, self-centered, and a sense of entitlement at someone else’s expense. And children who are not taught to value life tend to take the lives of others at will. When basic morality was taught at home and in schools, the mass killings we see now did not happen.

    1. Mass killings have always been part of the American dream. Do you not recall the American Civil War or the American Indian wars? Americans killed millions of Bison and tens of millions of Passenger pigeons. Americans have made extinction a way of life. Was slavery, enshrined in the Constitution, showing respect for other people? The US was willing to stand by in WWII while Jews were being rounded up and sent to death camps; at the same time top Universities refused to allow Jews to enroll. All of this was Conservative, Christian, American.

      1. FukdupAnon
If that’s what you think the history of America boils down to you are one twisted sociopath.

        1. The truth of America isn’t the sanitized version with no Black people in it before 1970 that was told to you.

Wait until you find out what America did in Laos and Cambodia.

      2. The US was willing to stand by in WWII while Jews were being rounded up and sent to death camps; at the same time top Universities refused to allow Jews to enroll. All of this was Conservative, Christian, American.

What kind of commie Democrat is actually mentally retarded enough to think the audience here will believe the claim that FDR, WWII president and racist as well as anti-Semitic, was supposedly a Conservative Christian?

  7. The 19th Amendment is right up there with the most destructive decisions in American history.

A rider asks nothing of the horse, lest the horse become the rider.

    1. Agreed. In fact I would add the 16th, 17th and 18th as well. Even the 26th is beginning to age like milk with how little 18 year olds know about civics these days.

  8. Not to give SLUG’s a bad name, but the democrats remind me that like slug’s they leave a sticky goo anywhere they go. It’s hard to wash the goo from your brain, for as soon as you wash it from one portion the slug wonders on to another leaf of deceit. They preach not [ I ], it’s those lowly scoundrels over there just look at them. The Slugs live on filth, munching in all that is unworthy, all the while preaching theirs is the way to salvation and peace. These human gastropod’s live mostly in the Swamps of Washington but also ride on a donkey/jackass hither and yon spreading their deceitful sticky goo as they go. Remember the next time you hear one of the slugs spewing about this or that it’s nothing but sickening intent to cause confusion.

  9. Based on her picture in the NYT, I would guess that she has spent more money on cosmetic surgery than many Third World countries have in their treasuries. How many “poor people” could have supported themselves with that money?

  10. I place people such as JW in a special category, ‘beyond redemption’. Because of their left wing nihilism, they have abandoned all human values including reason and therefore have rendered their own minds completely impotent. There is nothing one can or should do for them.

    1. Seriously, their minds so completely impotent they are unable to generate a reaction in a MAGAmind such as yourself? But she did, you reacted, and it’s clear that the problem is in your head. The left wing is the party of hope and faith in people. The conservatives are the ones who, as you have, write people off; nihilistic, tending towards apocalyptic, a fear that you will be overrun by sub human hordes. Those on the left merely want such as yourself to put down the crack pipe and stop listening to Alex Jones and Rush Limbaugh and their ranting about “others.”

  11. I know. I am waiting for you to have had it and call a fascist a fascist. When it’s the truth it will ring.

  12. Dear Mr. Turley, I have noticed these two nuts haven’t said these hateful things to Ericka Kirk, herself. They wouldn’t dare as they would be met with overwhelming love and forgiveness.

  13. I question what consequences will Jennifer Welch receive for her commentaries?
Divorced but still lives with her Ex with the Kids (Not a healthy combination). Might as well be moving in with Brittney Spears.

    1. *. Wol, you grew up in a US that had 2nd amendment law at a time of WWII veterans? Those were indeed religious people, peaceful people but not cowards? There were no murders, no theft. It was a time of no locks, none needed.

There was hard work and industriousness and a firm belief in good and children were actual gifts from God himself.

What’s missing are morals and ethics. It’s like the man pointing at the moon and the people stare at his finger and miss the moon altogether.

How many RIP today? Jw and friend are Beavis and Butthead cartoons with a strong following. It’s unbearable but must be lived as our portion in some way we don’t understand.
