The report is hardly surprising. In my book, “The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage,” I discuss these arguments to justify the current levels of intolerance and orthodoxy in higher education.
As we have discussed for years, universities have been effectively cleansing their ranks of Republicans and conservatives.
Many departments no longer have a single Republican faculty member in this academic echochamber.
A Georgetown study found that only nine percent of law school professors identify as conservative at the top 50 law schools — almost identical to the percentage of Trump voters found in the new poll.
There is little evidence that faculty members are interested in changing this culture or creating greater diversity at schools. In places like North Carolina State University, a study found that Democrats outnumbered Republicans 20 to 1.
Not long ago, I had a debate at Harvard Law School with Professor Randall Kennedy on whether Harvard protects free speech and intellectual diversity.
Kennedy rejected the notion that the elite school should strive to “look more like America.”
It is not just that schools like Harvard “do not look like America,” it does not even look like liberal Massachusetts, which is almost 30 percent Republican.
The Harvard Crimson has documented how the school’s departments have virtually eliminated Republicans. In one study of multiple departments last year, they found that more than 75 percent of the faculty self-identified as “liberal” or “very liberal.”
Only 5 percent identified as “conservative,” and only 0.4% as “very conservative.”
Consider that, according to Gallup, the U.S. population is roughly equally divided among conservatives (36%), moderates (35%), and liberals (26%).
So Harvard has three times the number of liberals as the nation at large, and less than 3% identify as “conservative” rather than 35% nationally.
Among law school faculty who have donated more than $200 to a political party, a breathtaking 91 percent of the Harvard faculty gave to democrats.
The student body exhibits the same biased selection. Harvard Crimson previously found that only 7 percent of incoming students identified as conservative. For the vast majority of liberal faculty and students, Harvard amplifies rather than stifles their viewpoints.
This does not happen randomly. Indeed, if a business reduced the number of women or minorities to less than 5 percent, a court would likely find de facto discrimination.
Again, universities have shown no serious commitment to ideological diversity. Faculty members have little incentive to add dissenting voices to their ranks. Moreover, faculty are now arguing against such ideological diversity.
Likewise, some sites, such as Above the Law, have supported the exclusion of conservative faculty. Senior Editor Joe Patrice defended “predominantly liberal faculties” by arguing that hiring a conservative law professor is akin to allowing a believer in geocentrism to teach at a university.
Nothing is likely to change so long as donors continue to blindly fund these programs and ignore the obvious intolerance for opposing views.
For now, most Yale departments have succeeded in creating a safe space for the ideologically intolerant.
Students will have it easy. Just parrot the professors and be lazy and rich, and you too can be a limousine Liberal!
This doesn’t really bother me. We’ve had their number for years now. Everyone knows by now that a Harvard degree is meaningless except to the Beautiful People. It’s a mere tribal badge. Conservatives should just cut bait and give the Ivies up for good. By their fruits shall ye know them. A bad tree doesn’t give good fruit, does it?
While I applaudTourley’s repeated concerns about left-wing
ideological takeover of important parts of academia, I have reservations
about the answer being to promote more conservatives and libertarians.
On this score I would bring your attention to me following tweet on X.

I’m deeply troubled by the assertion that the answer to leftist takeover of parts of
academia should be countered by promoting conservatives. The emphasis should be
on promoting truth-seeking eclectics in all legitimate disciplines. @JonathanTurley

While I agree that you would want to promote those who seek truth for truth’s sake…
The issue is that you need to counter the overwhelming liberal ideology.
The only way to gain that balance is to promote those who are not tied to the liberal ideology and agenda. To give an alternative viewpoint.
That is why Turley is promoting the need for viewpoint diversity by adding more right leaning professors.
It will never happen because the school has hit liberal critical mass.
The only way is for all of the alumni pushing against it and demanding their donations back.
Love or Hate Trump, he was right in stopping funding of these universities w federal grants.

Is it because Republicans prefer real jobs?
Shaking my head, Mr. Turley. I knew it was bad (especially at the Ivy Leagues) but had no idea it became a dogmatic liberal nirvana. It’s tragic…and might I add, fascistic? Joseph Goebbels would be proud.
In my book, “The Right To Rage: How Billionaires Hire Millionaires to Convince the Middle and Lower Class to be Minions” I discuss how the issue of polarization in higher education is simply a matter of marketing. The message from the Billionaires via their Republican lapdogs is not seen as worth spending money to hear. More than that, Republicans and Conservatives are free to build their own institutions rather than termiting existing ones. The Presidential, Republican, message is that children should be happy not to starve. This is not a winning message among those he refers to.
In any case, Liberty University hasn’t got a Marxist, Leninist, Socialist, or Communist department. Neither does Prager. If those who attend are there to avoid those subjects that is fine, just as any other students should be free to attend any school offering any other social philosophy views; those based on intellect and not gender or race or religion.
Your book only has pictures drawn by 3 year olds!!!
It has a section like that just for you. It helps to reach the minions.
I’m the millionaire!!! You=DF
There are a few pages for crayons. See if they let you color it at craft time.
You would know! So much practice you have in color by numbers.
This has been true since the mid-70s. I taught at a mid-tier law school because I wanted to live in that city. For 40 years I was the only #1 graduate of a T-5 law school on their faculty and the sole member of the Order of the Coif. That is the only reason they accepted a political middle of the roader (whom 99% denigrated as a “Conservative”) in their midst. God forbid that I had been a true “Conservative”.
Republicans are conservative.
The American Founders were conservative.
Democrats are liberal.
The American Founders were not liberal.
America by its Constitution is conservative.
America by its Constitution is not liberal.
Yale is Democrat.
Yale is not Republican.
Yale is not conservative.
Yale is not American.
The Supreme Court has “INTERPRETED” conservatism and the Constitution out of America.
The American Founders were criminals. Were they not protected by the French, the British government would have hung every one of them.
“Opposition views will not be allowed.”
,Your liberal free speech administration.
Congressional Democrats rating at 17%! Ha ha ha ha ha
It seems like a bad idea to have half the country’s politics not be informed by a professional intellectual class formalizing the best versions of their views.
Right. We’d have them here writing posts like yours.
What a moronic statement.
Even words they let you write posts.
God, did not realize that there would appear numerous commentaries about so called conservatives at this institution, much less other notable academic centers of learning.
By the time I graduated through the grind of of the quadrivium, so to speak, I came to experience increasing resistance to persons with my argumentation al discourse, I found mysel at odds with faculty and staff.
I recognized that any future advancement would be hindered by any attempt, whether by excellence or merit.
Our institutions are captive of an ideology and increasingly a dominant dean/chancellor/professor and donor class that would stifle any attempt towards a respectable career.
Thus I ignored all attempts as to inhibit poor referrals towards future considerations for employment.
I understand the hatred these ideologues have for any person who transgresses against their inborn defects of judgement.
Thus, you fools may have this conversation as to why there are no openly declared conservatives on campus.

I was graduated from a small state college in 1978. On my graduation day one of my favorite professors confessed to my father that try as they might, my profs hadn’t been able to shake my conservative philosophy.
The difference between then and now was that my prof was proud of me and told my father so.
This unbalanced political outlook in the faculty appears to me to be a result of self reinforcement in the academic hiring process. In my experience for non-academic hiring, hiring decisions, all else being equal, tend to settle on personality compatibility. It seems plausible that this is what is happening at Yale. If so, it is a self reinforcing process – there is no getting out until uniformity of political outlook is achieved irrespective of any visions of DEI.
I’m an American. My ancestors first arrived here in 1607. I want my country invaded, conquered, and taken over by people who are not Americans, people who were denied admission to obtain citizenship, and various and sundry other foreigners and illegal aliens, past and present. I want foreigners and illegal aliens to vote in my country. I want to give all my money and private property to parasitic foreign invaders as “free stuff,” “free status,” welfare, affirmative action, and governmental taxpayer charity. I want to give my country away. Those are my deepest longings and greatest desires as an unhyphenated and patriotic, actual American.
Anon
You are not alone, from the beginning we are and to the end we will remain. To give our lives at the time we are called just as our forefathers gave theirs to create so shall we to continue.
I’m an American. My ancestors arrived here more than 20,000 years ago.
They were the first humans to set foot in North America, and this was our country.
In 1607 my country was invaded by a bunch of white European illegal aliens who brought smallpox, dysentery, typhoid, measles, influenza and diphtheria.
This invasion of disease ridden illegal aliens caused great suffering and hardship among the populations of my REAL American ancestors.
Things have been going downhill ever since.
Well, you weren’t using it, so we thought….
Taking this seriously – which I doubt it is, The first inhabitants of North America arrived likely about 30,000 years ago,
The 2nd wave was about 20,000 years ago. Most north americans who were here at the time of Columbus only arrived less than 10,000 years ago. Each wave did Exactly what Europeans did previously – they came and took from those who were there previously.
That BTW is the story Everywhere on the planet.
The first people only arrived in Ireland about 9000 years ago.
Genghis Khan conquered most of the known world in his time and the largest portion fo the world of any conqueror.
Alexander the Great conquered the known world in his era
Then there was Atilla the Hun
The Egyptions.
And numerous others.
Conquest is nothing new.
It is only within the past century that humans have decided that conquest is evil.
The same is true of slavery and even genocide.
The Neanderthals are gone – Home Sapiens – us exterminated them.
Why did the so called Native americans get obliteratedd by diseases from thee old world ?
Because s the old world scaled civilization up larger and larger, as they went from encampments to villages, to towns, to cities,
nature fought back – and europeans fought centuries of diseases and plagues etc, that evolved because humans lived ever closer to each other Tthose Europeans suffered greatly – many plagues wiped out 2/3 off Europeans.
When europeans can to the new world – the people living here barely managed to reach the social organization needed to live in small villages, and as a result they never developed immunity to the diseases that nature inflicts on people who build ever bigger societies.
I would note – this is NOT unique to humans – Virtually every creature will get nearly wiped out if its population density gets too high.
Sometimes that is because they become attractive to predators, but most often it is disease.
Only Humans have managed to overcome natures efforts to wipe us out if our populations grow too large.
Or more accurately – Only Western European Humans. Native Americans did not manage that.
And yes the invasion of illegal immigrants had dire consequences for those here when Columbus landed.
They ended up posessing a tiny portion for the continent and living essentially on the charity of govenrment.
Much of their way of life destroyed.
The people here now, do not intend to suffer the same fate.
You were a ragtag bunch of Asiatic nomads who had no surveys, no property, no deeds, no records, no officials, no government, no disciplined military, and no country.
One thing is for certain: You were not possibly American, as that once-great nation among nations was not established until 1789, long after you claimed to have arrived.
You appear to be a potentially competent author of fantasy as fiction.
I’m an American. My ancestors arrived here more than 20,000 years ago.
And Princess Liawatha Fauxahontas Warren now has a few words for us (she knows she’s one of The Heritage Folks because her Ma-Ma told her she had high cheekbones, don’tcha know).
What she won’t brag about is that her alleged Heritage Folks ancestors had a lifespan that made them a miracle if they made it to age 30. Part of it was because Europeans found them living their short squalid lives, in filth, bacterial diseases, shitting in the water they drank and starving as they wandered as nomads in desperate searches for food. Those too old or too weak were abandoned to die from exposure and predators, pushing the life expectancy to what it was. The endless inter-tribal and inter-clan wars of conquest, revenge, and to take each other as slaves didn’t help.
The Aztecs as an imperial colonizing empire and butcher of Heritage Folks they conquered made the Spanish who saw this when they arrived look like amateurs – but they did learn from them.
Nor did some of the specialties the Heritage Folks developed centuries before any Europeans arrived help their life expectancy: cannibalism and human sacrifice. Fresh meat – Heritage Folks style.
The Heritage Folks had slavery down to the fine art of brutish raids and war a thousand years before Europeans – Vikings – and then French explorers, predated the arrival of the Pilgrims by centuries. Despite the Viking settlements being north and isolated from Liawatha’s Heritage Folks, their life expectancy got neither better nor worse during those centuries – they did as they always had: continued dying like flies.
Today, some of Princess Liawatha Fauxahontas Warren’s alleged fellow Heritage Folks claim they still live traditional Heritage Folks lifestyles. But not a single one of them is willing to do so while abandoning the gifts and cultural appropriation they’ve gotten from civilized Western culture: the wheel, steels, plastic ziplock bags… and just plain old toilet paper so they no longer have to wipe their shitty asses with the hand they then stick into the communal food pot.
And how could they live off the land now without their Gortex purchased from Patagonia?
Somebody tell Fauxahontas Warren to tell her unappreciative alleged Heritage Folks relatives that, if they want to play Settlers ‘n Injuns again, this time for keeps, then say “when”.
Pass the same message on to her allies, the Democrats’ criminal Illegal Aliens. If they want to consolidate their MS-13 shock troops and fight the Mexican-American war again: say “when”.
Perhaps you should read about: Recent studies have revealed a previously undocumented lineage of hunter-gatherers in Colombia whose DNA shows no connection to modern Indigenous populations. This ancient group, which lived around 6,000 years ago, appears to have vanished without leaving any genetic descendants
So either these FIRST inhabitants died from some mysterious disease or since they were replace by other humans they were slaughtered. So you might not be a descendant of the FIRST humans to set foot in North America. Though you might be distantly related to those that did the killing.

“Per the Epstein Files Transparency Act, DOJ was specifically instructed only to redact the faces of victims and/or minors,” she captioned the post. “Here is a picture of Bill Clinton with his arm around Michael Jackson, and redacted individuals.”
The press secretary was subsequently called out on X by progressive media company MeidasTouch Network for alluding that the trio were involved in Epstein’s sex crimes despite the photo being a publicly available fundraiser image featuring the pop star and Ross’ own children.”
Nothing to see here. trump has never meet Epstein in his life. trump has never been with more than one woman at a time, which is his wife(s). Despite being found liable for sexual abuse, trump is a celebate (I mean really, would would f-ck him?). Of all the files released in the Epstein batch, trump does not exist in any of them. And if he does, it is fake. I mean really look at the hunter laptop, please, please, look at it, do not look at the epstein files.
Biden and his own daughter? Ask about Tara Reid too!
Yale proves that the Democrats are stupid and there is no intelligent professors at Yale Law School. I am willing to go head to head with all of the idiots at Yale Law School. Have them call me. I will make them look them look like idiot lawyers. They can call me at 662-425-6732. I am smarter than any of these jerks.
. Epstein was murdered and it will come to light. Every person that is exposed guilty or innocent will have nutjobs like you out for blood literally. It’s the most negligent thing that can be done to release photos and identification of people who knew Epstein professionally but not personally.
Anon, you are vicious and blind and the innocent should fear you. There will be lawsuits to stop this negligence.
