Clickbait: How a Five-Year-Old Boy Become the Latest Prop in Post-Truth Politics

Below is my column in The Hill on the false “bait boy” story that went viral last week, the latest concoction of the left and an enabling media. It was an all-too-familiar pattern. Even after it was debunked, Gov. Tim Walz was still raising it late last week to paint ICE as soulless, depraved thugs. It simply does not matter that it is untrue in our post-truth political environment.

Here is the opinion:

“I am outraged, and you should be too.” That message from former Vice President Kamala Harris has been a virtual mantra of the Democratic Party for years. For several months, this has meant decrying the imminent death of democracy and our descent into authoritarianism. Now, it means falsely claiming that ICE “kidnapped” or “arrested” a five-year-old boy and used him as “bait” to catch someone.

The “bait boy” story is actually the latest clickbait hoax in our “Age of Rage.

Five years ago, Harris was expressing the same call for outrage over the false story of Border agents whipping migrants in Texas. She expressed disgust over the “horrible and deeply troubling” scenes reminiscent of the slave period.

It quickly became a pile-on, with the media spreading the false account. Reps. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) described the incident as “worse than what we witnessed in slavery” and “white supremacist behavior.”

President Biden threw the agents under the bus, publicly expressing disgust over their conduct and promising punishment before any investigation had occurred: “It was horrible what to see, as you saw — to see people treated like they did: horses nearly running them over and people being strapped. It’s outrageous. I promise you, those people will pay.”

The media continued to repeat the false account, even as many of us pointed out that the publicly available video showed the story was demonstrably untrue. It did not matter. It fit the narrative on the left, and the agents were left under investigation for more than a year before being cleared of the “whipping” charges.

After the false story was exposed, the media just shrugged and went on to the next gotcha story.

As for this new hoax, Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) declared the incident to be “the worst of the damn worst” in a video on X. Craig, a candidate for Senate, accused federal officers of taking the boy to “use him to lure his father out.”

That is false. According to reports, the father was spotted in public and fled, abandoning the boy. Like Harris, Craig reminded citizens that “this is a time where we should all be outraged. If this doesn’t pierce through your humanity, as a Republican member of Congress, if you can’t speak out about this, then you’ve got no humanity left.”

The key, again, is the requisite outrage. If you are not outraged, you are not human.

It is often said that we are living in a “post-truth” political environment. The term rose to favor due to the 2016 election of President Trump. Oxford Dictionaries specifically cited Trump when it selected the term as word of the year. The irony is that the proof of post-truth politics is often found among those who use it the most on the left, in the media and academia.

The bait boy hoax is particularly disgraceful. It is common to have minor children present during arrests of all kinds. Officers will often try to get family members to take a child rather than put him into child services.

In this case, ICE officers were trying to detain Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias, an undocumented Ecuadorian national, when he bolted and left behind his five-year-old child, Liam Conejo Ramos.

Rather than leave the child in the freezing cold on the street, the officers took the child to his home to get his mother to take him in. She refused to open the door despite agents reportedly saying that she would not be detained. They proceeded to take the boy to McDonald’s, play his favorite music, and take care of him. He was never arrested. They also did not send him into detention. According to ICE, his father asked for the boy to be allowed to stay with him at a detention facility, and ICE agreed.

One can have good-faith objections to immigration enforcement policies. The Trump administration has made it a priority to deport the millions of undocumented migrants allowed into the country under the Biden administration. That is what Trump pledged to do in his campaign.

Post-truth politics and post-truth journalism are designed to fuel rage — to give people license to say and do things that they would not ordinarily say or do.

Even nurses this week have joined in the hate-fest against ICE and the administration. In New York, an injured NYPD officer and his colleagues were treated rudely by nurses when they were mistaken for ICE officers.

In Florida, a nurse named Lexie Lawler at the Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital directed her rage at White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, who is expecting her second child.  Lawler posted that “As a labor and delivery nurse, it gives me great joy to wish Karoline Leavitt a fourth-degree tear. I hope you f——- rip from bow to stern and never s— normally again, you c—.” Like the ICE agents, Leavitt is not treated as a person but some Golem who can be joyfully and righteously harmed.

There is a strange aspect to rage addictions. Many on the left will use false stories to virtue signal, then unleash the most unvirtuous attacks. The greatest irony is that these individuals are doing precisely what they accuse ICE of doing. They are using this five-year-old as bait — clickbait — to fuel protests and outrage.

The call for outrage is meant to strip away the humanity of ICE agents, who are portrayed as having no sympathy or concern for a child. Indeed, the use of this child by protesters strips him of his humanity. He was as much of a prop as the ICE agents were.

The bait boy hoax does show that Harris and Craig may be right about one thing: “This is a time where we should all be outraged.”

  1. Bovino has been removed from his post. Noem has been removed from her leading role as DHS chief for Minnesota.

Guess their lying was too much for Trump’s administration.

    1. guess X’s conclusions are too much for the rest of us. Could well be that they are avoiding escalating and harder-to control mobs, not wanting to wait for a judge to say they are acting legally. YOu don’t really know, do you georgie?

    1. Google: “what is the purpose of the us constitution”

You’ll get lots of relevant info. Since you’re able to comment here, I’m assuming you’re able to do a google search.

      1. . Old man, why not shut down all federal money until Minnesota complies with federal law and engages crowd control. Retirees receive SS from a Trust and Medicare. A federal judge will block it but appeal because States should not fund States that refuse federal law and obstruct. OR

The useless congress can do that or the useless congress can delete the US border and immigration laws. We’ll, DJT WOULD VETO that.

  2. Liberals just pile upon lie. They don’t even have the capacity to tell the truth. It’s always about their narrative never the facts.

    1. In the span of three weeks two protesters have tried to harm and kill ICE officers and paid a price for attempted homicide with their lives. A few others got of easy, the guys that attacked an ICE agent with a shovel and the guy that bit off an ICE agent’s finger. The one thing you will notice about every one of these encounters is the violent protester started it by trying to harm or kill an Officer. Their death is their own fault, no.one else’s. Officers don’t have to wait until they.are dead to respond to a deadly threat.

    2. . Protesters? No, they’ve all been trained right down to the granny lesbianism with whistles. It’s a gangster State and they’re all a part of it. The grannies and Pretti most likely are paid a paltry amount as billions are stolen. That’s the gangster mob and Ellison is conseleri.

Too stoopid. Don’t send a penny in there unless it has a tail.

  3. Below, a letter from James O’Keeefe, [We are dealing with revolutionaries who will mark and kill, so the question is not how Prettis died, but who is behind all the Prettis’s sent out as cannon fodder.]

“Over the past 48 hours, our founder James O’Keefe and the OMG team have encountered severe threats while reporting on the ground in Minneapolis. As you may have seen from James’s recent posts on X, the situation escalated rapidly, highlighting the dangers our journalists face in pursuit of the truth.

In a breaking report, James detailed how a mob surrounded the team, throwing ice bottles, attempting to rip off protective gear, and following them back to their hotel. Amid this chaos, the team received explicit death threats via text message. One chilling message read: “We know you’re in Minneapolis, you’re with O’Keefe and his crew of Nazis. You’re in a white ford license plate … from Florida. You have 1 hour to leave or you’re dead.” This threat not only demonstrates the level of surveillance and organization among the agitators but also underscores the risks involved in exposing corruption and unrest.

James followed up with an urgent update on X, describing the agitators as highly coordinated, with spotters throughout the city and suburbs. He expressed frustration not just at the immediate danger, but at the broader societal apathy that allows such threats to persist unchecked. As James noted, “The only thing the Communists fear is exposure itself. And that’s good news because it may be our only option.” Our team has already submitted a report to the FBI and is committed to holding those responsible for these threats accountable, including potentially investigating prosecutors if action is not taken.

      1. Your brain was installed upside down. ICE does not threaten the protestors; it is arresting illegal aliens, most of whom are dangerous criminals, some of whom would rape your daughter and kill your wife. That is something you are not concerned with. That is known as stupidity.

        1. Seth
I truly believe those are AI generated posts. Even the responses are not soundly based. I believe they are to incite and maintain interaction to generate volume $$

Why do you always throw out childish insults when you are challenged? It does absolutely nothing for your credibility.
If someone disagrees with you, and you believe they are wrong, then the civil thing to do is respond with a reasoned, cogent rebuttal. You constantly resort to insults as if that somehow justifies your opinions. That is not the mark of a person with any degree of intelligence, or who possesses well reasoned opinions. It is the mark of an elementary schoolyard bully.
Your credibility as a thoughtful commenter suffers from this childish behavior.

          1. If you could read and understand what your words mean, you too would say your brain was installed upside down.

            1. So you really ARE simply a schoolyard bully.
              Thanks for proving it.
              You have no credibility whatsoever.

              1. You’re not a victim; you’re a provocateur. That you can’t see the difference is an indictment of your judgment, not my behavior.

                1. Look, I am not the Anon who responded to you at 5:30.
I am an old-time conservative who voted for Reagan and both Bushes. I come here 3 or 4 times a week, and very rarely post comments. I agree with most of what Turley says. I even agree with what you say sometimes. However, over time I have noticed that you ruin your otherwise relevant comments by indulging in these childish insults when someone challenges you.
You appear to have some quite significant personality issues if you are unable to understand why these insults detract from your comments and render your credibility to be suspect.

                  1. I don’t care about which side you belong to. I care about your policies and solutions. You are a provocateur trying to sound reasonable, but you are not. You don’t even carry a name, so you can be any one of the generic anonymous persons that flood the blog with inane and trollish comments. Claiming you are conservative is meaningless. It’s not your ideology that counts. It’s your mindset.

“ICE threatens First Amendment protestors. Turnabout is fair play.”

ICE is following the laws of the country voted for by most Americans, Democrat and Republican. The turnabout you talk about is lawless and violent. There is no moral symmetry between enforcing the law and inciting or excusing violence in response to it. I don’t care who you are. I care what you think, and so far, you act like someone who confuses provocation with principle, mistaking reaction for justification.

                    1. The above is mine.

I provide a name and then an icon for confirmation that I am who I am, not a troll

                  2. So give yourself a name instead of ANO.
Makes it much easier to figure out, who is who.
                    But you know that!

          1. No one says the majority of immigrants are violent criminals. Illegal immigrants are illegal the second they step across the border without permission. If you enter someone’s property without permission, you are trespassing. Start thinking based on the law instead of your ideology.

    1. Another James O’Keefe false flag report. Hasn’t he been sued for lying in his reports in conjunction with Project Veritas? Yes, yes he has been.

“The conservative group Project Veritas and its former leader are taking the unusual step of publicly acknowledging that claims of ballot mishandling at a Pennsylvania post office in 2020 were untrue.

The statements from Project Veritas and founder James O’Keefe came as a lawsuit filed against them by a Pennsylvania postmaster was settled Monday.

The group produced videos in the wake of the 2020 presidential election based on claims from a postal worker in Erie, Pennsylvania, who said he had overheard a conversation between the postmaster and a supervisor about illegally backdating mail-in presidential ballots.”

Project Veritas also sued James O’Keefe, the founder.

      1. ” Hasn’t he been sued for lying in his reports in conjunction with Project Veritas?”

Yes, and almost always he won. Those winnings helped to support Project Veritas.

“Project Veritas also sued James O’Keefe, the founder.”

The suit is two-way, but James O’Keefe is the winner. He still exists while Project Veritas goes down the tubes. The Project Veritas board did the wrong thing.

This latest settlement of Project Veritas and James O’Keefe isn’t pretty, but insufficient punch exists against O’Keefe’s reputation; he didn’t lie. They reported what was said by another, who now says he must have misheard what he thought was true. I know of no evidence that O’Keefe was involved in lying. It’s hard to figure out what happened because O’Keefe was effectively gone Feb 20, 2003, and off the books in March. Project Veritas is going under, and likely the individual lacked the financial backing to continue the lawsuit. We don’t know the wording of the settlement or the terms.

You are all wet and have little understanding of what happened, but that is always true. That is why you hide your identity under Anonymous.

    2. Another James O’Keefe false flag report. Hasn’t he been sued for lying in his reports in conjunction with Project Veritas? Yes, yes he has been.

Project Veritas also sued James O’Keefe, the founder.

      1. Legislative and Political Response
These cases have led to increased legislative action, such as the passage of the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act in the House, which aims to deport illegal immigrants who commit crimes against women. The House also passed the Laken Riley Act.

    3. James O’Keefe?

“The conservative group Project Veritas and its former leader are taking the unusual step of publicly acknowledging that claims of ballot mishandling at a Pennsylvania post office in 2020 were untrue.

The statements from Project Veritas and founder James O’Keefe came as a lawsuit filed against them by a Pennsylvania postmaster was settled Monday.

All those cameras and James O’Keefe captured none of it. Also, as lame as the “attack” was, it is just as likely James O’Keefe hired them to stage the event.

      1. The person filmed by PV said he overstated his claim. PV repeated what he said. PV didn’t make anything up. We don’t have the settlement papers to see what happened. But PV broke apart in 2023, so the man might not have been given the support he would have gotten had O’Keefe still been in charge. Under those circumstances, it makes sense to settle whether one is right or wrong.

When it comes to Democrats, no one has to stage bad actions by Democrats. The proof is in all the releases where PV was not challenged or won the case.

  4. . Is there a problem in the title of this article?

The regular military for insurrection or rebellion? This is civil disobedience and warrants NG for crowd control leaving ICE, BORTAC AND DEA to focus on their jobs. The noise is hindering law enforcement and causing agitation. Law enforcement is not responsible for the obstruction of State leadership.

Send in the full military and federal funds will take a very long time to arrive. What a sinkhole. It had to be proved what your characters are and you’ve proved it, Democrats and the 🐸s on the other side.

Congratulations Justice Alito for remaining trustworthy.

    1. Lexie Lawler, it is with the greatest and deepest sorrow that I acknowledge your firing. You are such a lovely human being, so full of grace and patience and love for everyone. How sad. You, of all people, waited to offer your healing thoughts to Ms. Leavett until after she gave birth to a healthy baby. Thank you for expressing your outrage over the vicious murders of innocent American girls by illegal aliens.

      1. . Hoping she’s been taken off duty. Imagine getting her as a nurse. There was a lawsuit when a “doctor” pulled on the head of a baby during delivery and actually pulled the child’s head off. Omg

    1. Dehumanizing opponents has been a frequent strategy for laying the ground work for using power immorally. See the Crusades

The Crusades were a response to Muslims invading, pillaging, raping women, killing husbands, enslaving children and conquering Catholic lands.

The Crusades Were A Reasonable Response To Unchecked Islamic Aggression

By the time the Crusades had started in 1099, invading Muslim armies had slaughtered countless thousands of Christians in the Levant, the Middle East, the Arabian Peninsula, Spain, Portugal, France and Italy. A full 90% of Christian territory had been unjustly invaded and annexed. And under the lash of their “peaceful” Muslim overlords, Christians were enslaved, raped, forced to pay the extortionist tax known as the jizya, forced to convert to their peaceful religion, and summarily executed for no other reason than they were Christians in a formerly Christian country unjustly taken over by Muslims. In fact, Muslims had controlled Spain and Portugal for 400 years before the Catholic Church came to realize that Muslims not only wanted Christian lands and wealth, but also wanted to enslave and destroy Christian souls

      https://ewtn.co.uk/article-the-crusades-were-a-reasonable-response-to-unchecked-islamic-aggression/

      1. Estovir – Both sides viewed themselves as “crusaders”. The easy conscience with which we kill arabs today (e.g., the people of Iraq in 2003) reminds one of the attitude of Christian crusaders in 1035.

  8. To think all this is basically about people who crossed the border illegally and the democrats trying to refocus our attention away from the massive fraud that is still going on in this country.

    1. Dimms are also worried their new illegally obtained ‘voter base’ will be sent back to their real homes. The real polls must look REALLY BAD for dimms. Their desperation & gasping for waning power is highlighting their TDS & MAGA insanity.
Leadership excepted, the violent fools rioting seem to care about finding out what’s really going on. They haven’t read Strategy, by Cloward & Piven. Or Rules For Radicals, by HRC mentor Saul Alinksky. The only research done by the deranged mobs is “I heard that…(someone some where did something bad.)” THEY are the ones bring violence!
The violence comes from propagandized, many of them paid, ‘protesters who have no clue. These insane bezerkers are being used by the fomentors of the color revolution as sacrificial pawns.

  9. “ Even nurses this week have joined in the hate-fest against ICE and the administration. In New York, an injured NYPD officer and his colleagues were treated rudely by nurses when they were mistaken for ICE officers.”

Of course that was bound to happen. ICE is THAT toxic. I’m surprised Turley is not even aware of how bad ICE has been conducting itself and the resulting rage and anger are completely valid. As long as ICE continues to abuse and attack protesters, violate constitutional rights with impunity, and as recent as this weekend, being given the authority to enter homes without a valid warrant. All are clearly going to anger a lot of peopl.

The question is where is Turley’s criticism of ICE’s new warrantless entries onto homes? ICE forcing entry onto homes without a proper warrant is clearly a direct constitutional violation and Turley is peddling these MAGA rage bait opinions. Where is his outrage over these warrantless entries being declared legal by heads of ICE?

    1. There is no judicial decision which addresses the parameters of BP/ICE administrative warrants. You have said, as recently as yesterday, that a judicial warrant of “probable cause” was needed.

    2. The nurses and anyone other medical persons in the hospital, will be fired or punished.
You cannot just say I won’t help. They did a mayor goof up.

  10. JT is so so concerned about Democrats limiting free speech. He points out a few minor offenses that are meaningless. Meanwhile the President of the United States (that would be trump for the MAGA among us) calls cranial action for polls that show him in a less than stellar manner.
    The latest offender? Fox News.

  11. non-legal comment:
I was really perturbed with media highlighting Jacob Frey and Tim Walz immediately labeling Renee Good’s death a “murder,” …until I heard Kristi Noem call Alexi Pretti a “domestic terrorist.” I got on the fence.
Then I jumped off again when I saw Media again manipulate the crowds with the headlines of ICE “detaining” a/o “kidnapping” the 5-year-old (today’s focus). But then, even more irritated when Media continuously flashed headlines describing Pretti as an “ICU nurse”–such a saintly profession, I guess. (The anti-ICE involvement of Pretti is much more relevant than his nursing job, but where are THOSE headlines? I’m not demonizing Pretti- his death is tragic and I support full transparency on this). So, like kids in a fight-who ultimately muddle/confuse what started the whole thing, we take sides and try to bring the other down, but end up pulling everybody down.

Added to this fray are the stupid civilians/pedestrians/protesters pushing into scenes, following people around, shouting and shoving their cell phones in everyone’s face, hoping to make some money off their recordings.

So in the end, if 50-100 foot “buffer zones” can be created around abortion clinics and military funerals, can we not have same/similar- but standardized- around BP/ICE operations? Or Church services? Let the protesters shout and make a scene, but at a safe distance and maybe these tragedies would not occur. If we can arrest a single woman for silently praying outside an abortion clinic, would we arrest a single protester who is silently praying outside the building where an ICE arrest is being effected? Methinks not. It is the outrageous activity of mobs that gets our dander up.

I would like to see more official, statutory “buffer zones” created for BP/ICE, with more guidance on committing NG to help contain/control this nonsense.

    1. Buffer zones? Around ICE? How would that work? ICE is moving around all the time on public spaces mind you. Not private spaces like abortion Clinics and churches.

ICE’s increased aggressiveness and the resulting protests and people following them is entirely self inflicted. It’s their tactics and poorly trained agents that are creating the problem. Pretti was disarmed and then shot. He wasn’t attacking DHS or obstructing their operation. You can clearly see the ICE or CBP agent aggressively attacking two ladies while Pretti is well out of the way filming. He only got involved when one of the women got shoved into a snow drift and he helped get her up. At that point the enraged ICE officer proceeded to attack Pretti by pepper spraying him in the face. You can clearly see the agent going into a rage instead of backing off and moving on.

Noem is currently being sidelined by Homan at the direction of Trump because it’s clear Noem and Bovino have lost control of the operation and the narrative they tried to peddle.

The 5yr old’s story is likely true that ICE tried to use the child as bait. DHS has been lying constantly and shown repeatedly their narratives do not match the videos. Even judges have made it a point to mention DHS has been untruthful with their claims in court. It would be no surprise that a majority of people do not believe anything DHS says. They keep lying and they keep getting caught lying so often it’s becoming second nature to assume DHS rarely tells the truth.

      1. More lies. The violence against ICE is not “self-inflicted”. Most states cooperate with ICE so there is no drama. Arresting people with deportation orders is going to continue no matter how big of a tantrum the leftist throw. No one was using a child as bait. The resistance in MN appears to be well organized and coordinated. I suspect that the antifa crowd is hoping for one more violate confrontation so that Trump will swarm the city with military. Can’t let a good crisis go to waste.

        1. It is self inflicted. ICE has been more aggressive only when they are in blue states. It’s purposeful. It is by design.

DHS is hiring people who are poorly vetted and trained. It’s become obvious these recruits are eager to join in on the fun and exert the authority they never had.

“No one was using the child as bait”. DHS cannot be trusted to be telling the truth. They have already been exposed as liars, even in court. To say they were not using the child as bait does not sow any trust on what the said. If they are already pulling fire alarms to get residents to come out and prevent to be utility workers to coax people out they are not going to gain the trust of anyone.

          1. george

You seem to think ICE and the CBP are the same police officers. Cute. It has already been demonstrated that ICE is willing to violate the constitution and lie to people when they get caught doing something illegal or just plain being over aggressive.

4th amendment violations by ICE and CBP are at a record pace. Setting off fire alarms in apartment complexes to get people to come out is illegal and a federal offense.

The “defenses available” are also useless when ICE deliberately obstructs detainees from their lawyers and moves them around to prevent a lawful defense.

ICE has gotten to the point where they are out of control and their leadership continues to encourage it and everyone sees it. That is why there is so much anger and rage against them. Because they are acting with impunity and lawlessness and accountability is sorely lacking.

          1. As I said, George, let’s wait and see if BP/ICE are indicted for these offenses you mention, and what appellate decisions are rendered thereafter. Until then you are of course free to use this blog site to spout your opinions, as you like to remind us. Your success rate in convincing others is not impressive, n’est ce pas? Thanks

        2. Lin,
Oh, how I do enjoy watching you dismantle the slow and dumb one with things like, oh, say, the LAW!! And with such grace and eloquence!
          Bravo!

          1. Lin fired a spitball at an Abrams tank. You are aware that if Trump pardons them, that is an admission of guilt even if they aren’t specifically punished.

            1. yeah, that’s why the abrams tank always disappears after she delivers a hit. But it will come back tomorrow.

      3. hey x, you say “” ICE is moving around all the time on public spaces mind you. Not private spaces like abortion Clinics and churches. ”
So you are saying that police cannot hold back third parties when an arrest is made on a public street? Or on a sidewalk?
You are getting more than just funny.

      4. X at 3:05 PM

        That’s BS, X

Combat Zones are Combat Zones, if the people if Minnesota want to engage in Zone Combat by creating Anti-ICE Forces and turning the public streets of their neighborhood into Combat Zones, then more powered to them. After all this is America and They have a right to die for it.
Zone to Zone Combat isn’t pretty, just look to Gaza and Ukraine for examples.

      5. I would like to see the people participating in the shadowing network and obstruction of federal officers performing their duties arrested for obstruction. I would like to see the Democrats inciting these stupid people arrested for conspiracy to thwart federal officers in performance of their legal duty.

      6. george
The 5yr old’s story is likely true that ICE tried to use the child as bait. DHS has been lying constantly and shown repeatedly their

Any proof to back up that claim?

        Noticed you haven’t posted zip.

    2. Lin – you pose a reasonable solution, but it will never be enacted in Minnesota. Besides not being reasonable, Minnesota is in open revolt against the US government. This includes its evil governor, who refers to heroic law enforcement officers as “Nazis.” This would have to come from Congress.

      1. It’s a stupid solution. How do you propose to manage a moving 100ft buffer zone when ICE is constantly on the move? They are on public property all the time and a buffer zone would be unconstitutional. Abortion clinics have buffer zones because they are private property and in one place only. Lin’s idea is a bad attempt at keeping ICE and the public separated when it is in public. It’s not possible legally and logistically.

        1. hey george, can police legally hold back third parties or bystanders when making any kind of arrest on a public street? A sidewalk? you are so funny.

        2. Xlax
How about dismantling the shadow network and arresting the people that are impeding their ability to perform. I will give you a friendly warning, if they kill an ICE officer it will result in something that no one in Minnesota will like. Arrests will be coming soon, believe it.

      2. OldManFromKS,
Reasonable indeed. Although it would not have to be a 100ft zone. Just keep them separated by so much as 10-20ft. Let the radical far leftists exercise their 1stA rights to protest, scream, blow their little whistles, record their videos etc. If only Walz and Frey were interested in the overall general safety of MN. You know. Like letting ICE arrest and deport criminal illegals. Like the one in the case ICE was trying to arrest an illegal criminal with a history of violence.

      3. Open revolt? Shooting up Federal offices? Killing ICE agents?

Oh, no, the stickers and the protest signs are so hurtful, how will ICE manage to survive the onslaught?

    3. Lin,
That is a sensible idea. Unfortunately Walz and Frey, possibly higher up MPD are preventing such an action to happen. To me it would make sense for there to be MPD escorting ICE at all times, keeping a buffer between protesters/rioters and ICE at all times. They can exercise their 1stA rights without interfering with ICE enforcing immigration laws. Everyone stays safe.

    4. . 😂 DJT tried the NG idea, SCOTUS. Did SCOTUS actually contribute to this chaos? Yes. Walz can deploy NG to help or the police can do crowd control NONE of which is being done. Minneapolis leadership contributed to these deaths as the criminal was actually not apprehended , as well.

Alito and Thomas warned of their concerns. DHS is in this alone. Put in a token number of regular military and then call in Minnesota NG federalized.

    5. Lin,
To add, in FL ICE has arrested and deported a large number of criminal illegals, some reports up to 20,000 criminal illegals. Notice how they do not have the kind of social strife there as they do in MN? FL does not have radical far leftist ICE Watch, which Pertti was a member of. They do not have coordinated communications on Signal to identify ICE agents or their license plates. They do not have members of the radical far leftist ICE Watch, actively stalking, obstructing and even assaulting ICE LEOs. And FL is a much more friendly 2ndA state.

        1. If a man with a remote control could detonate an atomic bomb somewhere hidden in Minnesota, and we conducted a search to find him, anyone interfering would be ?

If it is the duty of men to fight their nation’s wars, is it not the duty of women to bear their nation’s children in numbers sufficient to protect and grow that nation?

    7. You think ICE wants to identify before an “operation” begins exactly where it will occur (like address of suspect)?

      What a ridiculous idea.

      1. No one said that, clown. ICE, WHEN ARRIVING, would have extra personnel to keep distance between its operations and members of the public or protesters. They also could use various barrier initiatives demarcating the buffer zone.

        1. To the extent reasonably practicable they already do that.

But people and operations are not static. How exactly would this work for a car stop for example?

    8. “It is the outrageous activity of mobs that gets our dander up.” Exactly. That’s their goal. They don’t care about immigrants, at all. They should care about the dangerous ones, but they don’t. This is all about hating Trump and Christians. These guys are the New ATHEISTS WHO DETEST CHRISTIANITY AND SEEK TO DESTROY EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH IT.

  12. The Tenth Amendment prescribes that the federal government has only those powers delegated to it by the Constitution, and that all other powers not forbidden to the states by the Constitution are reserved to each state, or to the people, so where is the specific law that legitimizes the presence of ICE in Minneapolis? As one of the people, Alex had more of a legitimate presence than ICE did.

    1. There is no dispute that immigration laws are a valid exercise of Congress’s authority under the Constitution, or that the President is authorized and obligated to enforce those laws anywhere and everywhere in the United States. The violent mob of which Pretti was part is actively impeding valid law enforcement operations. He was part of a well-organized, well-funded violent insurrection against legitimate enforcement of federal law – which, under the Supremacy Clause, trumps any and all state laws to the contrary or that would in any way interfere with it. That is true regardless of whether this particular shooting is ultimately ruled to be justified in its specific circumstances.

        1. Okay, I’ll take that as a good-faith question, but it’s high-school civics. Perhaps you are a high school student, and if so, congratulations on asking a relevant question.

In the founding of the United States, the states (formerly colonies) were the sovereign. They have “police powers” – which has nothing to do with police officers. It is a legal term meaning they have authority to enact laws and regulations in support of public health, safety, welfare, and morals. (As an aside, those police powers are not limited to enumerated powers, unlike the federal government.) In ratifying the US constitution, the states agreed to give up a little bit of their sovereignty to a central, federal government which has enumerated powers, such as regulating interstate commerce, and passing immigration laws, to name just two (others would be establishing a patent system, as an example). The states calculated that they would be better off with a strong enough federal government to protect them, and so it was a bargain they were willing to make. Part of that bargain – in particular, the states’ ceding of a bit of their sovereignty – was that, if Congress passes a law it is authorized to pass, that law is supreme throughout the US, and cannot be undermined by what remained of their police powers.

          1. OldManFromKS,
Well said and thank you for pointing that out. In a less than one minute read, you summed up the situation nicely.

  13. Why should the government surrender to this mob, ‘oh You poor put upon, you have every right to shoo law enforcement from your neighborhood’. What astounds me is that a mob of less than 10,000 at most and from what I’ve seen maybe 2,000 is allowed to disrupt law enforcement without penalty. The mob has taken to physical action against law enforcement, public, and private property under the guise of concern for some unknown criminal or some everyday carpetbagger, who made entry under the cover of a blessed lawlessness by the prior administration or darkness if they jumped the fence. Regardless they are here without legal authority. Either there are laws that are enforced or tyranny of the mob.

      1. @Anonymous

So does the DNC, they absolutely see voters in the chaos they fomented themselves, hence the fometing. 😂 Unfortunately for you all, the actual voters voted in the majority against this nonsense, and we will again. Really, this is getting so very, very tired. So sorry we clipped your faux amnesty to secure those voters before you had the opportunity to cement them. Hint: not really sorry. Cellophane is more opaque than the modern left.

And PS – you are beginning to sound like you may work for command central. Grassroots, ‘random’ commenter, my and everyone else’s a$$.

          1. Sorry, haste. I think the point was made. You all are not convincing anyone of anything other than your own sad idiocy at this point.

            1. James – by their own admission, the DNC sees voters in all illegal aliens. That’s exactly why, for four years, the “Joe Biden” administration opened the borders and invited illegal aliens in from all corners of the globe. That, and they get more House seats from the census. They’ve already gained 17 seats from illegals, which additionally translates into 17 more electoral votes in every presidential election.

              1. The DNC has admitted nor expected any such thing. Sounds like the party of pedophiles is trying to deflect from the Pedophile in Chief they voted for.

Biden followed the laws that Congress passed concerning immigration. If Congress didn’t like them, they should have written new ones. As far as I know all that Trump has done is to refuse to follow the immigration laws.

        1. A tiny sliver of a majority. The same will not be true at the midterms. There is a huge number of Republicans tucking tail and running from the next election. They want to be as far from the blast zone as possible.

    1. …and how many in those ovens sneaked in into Germany and filed fake asylums and displacing native population?

  14. “Rather than leave the child in the freezing cold on the street, the officers took the child to his home to get his mother to take him in. She refused to open the door despite agents reportedly saying that she would not be detained. ”

Any qualified legal expert would be 100% informed that in the USA the police are allowed to lie in the course of their work. Why would anyone believe that ICE would not accept her opening the door as a chance to flood in, tear the place apart “looking” and then capture her for 48 hours to 4 weeks while they perform an extensive background search before determining that, somehow, she is unfit and then sending the child out of state to a detention camp?

I know that White cis-males in the Georgetown area are in a bubble and completely isolated from the reality of law enforcement. Cops ask them to move their illegally parked cars. They are issued warning tickets for failing to signal or having a head lamp out. It’s an Officer Friendly that is there to help them out. Help them out of legal problems, that is.

One would think a Constitutional scholar would understand how law enforcement works, but having never been exposed to how law enforcement works, I can see where ignorance has a wide opening.
