“You’d be Justified in Shooting”: Rep. Jerry Nadler Triggers Outcry Over Violent Rhetoric Against ICE

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D., NY) is under fire this week for joining other Democratic members in reckless rhetoric to fuel the growing threats against federal law enforcement officers. Calling out the “fascism in our streets,” Nadler suggested that citizens could be justified in shooting masked agents, a chilling claim made earlier by other Democratic leaders.

The New York Post reported the comments made in a Judiciary Committee hearing. Nadler declared:

“What is really the major problem in this country today is the fascism in our streets. The attacks on American citizens, by masked hoodlums. If you were attacked by a masked person, you might think you were being kidnapped. You’d be justified in shooting the person — to protect yourself.”

The agents are wearing masks because different groups are actively publishing their identities and personal information online. The result has not only been doxxing but threats made against the families of these agents. Democratic politicians have pledged to assist in the effort to “unmask” and publish the identities of these officers as threats soar.

For many, these statements suggest that they have a license under laws like Stand Your Ground to shoot at agents and claim mistaken self-defense. The continued use of such rhetoric in the face of soaring attacks and threats against officers is the worst form of demagoguery.

At the same time, members like Rep. Dan Goldman (D. NY) deny that there is evidence of a sharp increase in attacks despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Notably, Nadler and his colleagues pushed for the impeachment of Donald Trump for what they called his inflammatory rhetoric on January 6th despite his call for the protests to remain peaceful.

Other members are engaging in the same hyperbolic rhetoric to appeal to the growing mob on the left. Sen. Chris Murphy (D. Conn.) seems the most unhinged: “What is happening in Minnesota right now is a dystopia. ICE is tear gassing elementary schools. It is disappearing legal residents into cars. It is murdering American citizens.”

Aspiring Democrats are getting the message. Total Wine billionaire David Trone — who is running to recapture his Maryland congressional district from fellow Democrat Rep. April McClain-Delaney, declared this week that the federal government is “literally executing people on the streets” in “not just Minneapolis… all over the United States.”

Ohio Democratic Attorney General candidate Elliot Forhan is running on the catchy pledge that “I will kill Donald Trump.” It is a race to the bottom as Democratic leaders try to take the lead in mob politics.

When combined with the rationalization for the use of lethal force against officers, this rhetoric is not just inflammatory but dangerous. We have heard these voices before in our history. As discussed in Rage and the Republicwe have a rising class of new Jacobins, politicians and pundits who are pandering to the mob. History does not bode well for these politicians seeking to ride the wave of rage when the mob turns against them.

  1. I am told over and over that the left is winning the fight for the hearts and minds of voters, over Immigration or ICE enforcement.

Absolutely people see the shooting of Rene Good or Alex Pretti and they are shocked.

    These shootings are tragedies.
We all wish that they had not happened.
We all want a miraculous world were the bad guys wear black hats.
Where it is the rapists and murders who are getting shot
not mothers and nurses stupid enough to pretend they are protecting their community by preventing the deportation of criminals.

There are even a few polls that show people disapproving of the good shooting or the pretti shooting.

It is absoltuely true – people Want utopia, and polls constantly show that.

But it is ALSO true that people are NOT stupid.

Several recent polls found 56% of Minnesotans want MN govenrment to gooperate with ICE.
    Only 38% do not.

In fact accross the board in poll after poll
Support for the POLICES the left is trashing is supermajority, stable and/or rising.

Support for voter ID has risen from 75% in 2018 to 83% in 2025.
Even 77% of democrats support Voter ID.

Support for deporting criminal illegal aliens is at about 80% – depending on the poll.
Support for deporting ALL illegal aliens is significantly higher than 50% – sometimes above 60%.

Trump’s popularity – give or take a point has been the same as it was on election day in 2024 for the past 6 months,
    and even higher before that.

We are told over and over that the violent protests of the left are working.
That 2026 is going to be a bloodbath for republicans.
    and maybe that is so.

Though a very recent harvard harris poll of LIKELY 2026 voters – as opposed to registered voters found that instead of the D+4 generic ballot,
    that likely voters were R+8

Democrats did well in off-off years elections – and maybe that means the rest of the polling is not determinate

All of us are trying to read the tea leaves 9 months from now.

It is my view that Democrats shift left is slowly turning their party into an increasingly irrelevant minority party.

That possibly the most important polling number is the 18% approval rating off Democrats.

The left has succeeded in making everyone outraged,
    making everyone angry.

They have succeeded in reducing the support for Trump and republicans,
but they have done so at even greater cost to their own support.

But we will see in 9 months.

  2. “Nadler suggested that citizens could be justified in shooting masked agents….reported the comments made in a Judiciary Committee hearing….”

Judiciary: persons or system that administers justice. These reckless “democrat” posers, especially stunted-cowards like Nadler, who bloviate and instigate behind high-benches, are in need of severe rebukes, censures, fines, and disbarment, if not jail time.

Nadler’s language and implied sanction of bloodshed is juridical indecency. Remove him from this committee!

  3. Oh boy, Turley put out two boring articles earlier and then this one, the rage bait (totally expected).

Republicans don’t seem to understand that the violence against ICE, CBP and others is not just out of the blue. ICE’s own cruel tactics, excessive force, shooting people with pepper balls point blank in the face, using pepper spray right to the face, shoving people violently, and killing people in broad daylight would pretty much get a LOT of people angry and push back against the aggression.

The masks are used to avoid identifying those who ARE being violent and lawless. Some may have criminal backgrounds since DHS does a pi$$ poor job of vetting agents in the rush to hire as many as possible.

Nadler’s comment was not wrong. People could start justifying defending themselves against masked unidentified thugs attacking them in their cars or forcing themselves into their homes without a warrant. DHS has told their agents they don’t need a proper warrant to force their way into a home. Castle doctrine laws and stand your ground laws CAN be used against unidentified masked individuals if they refuse to identity and force their way into a home. Somebody is going to get hurt if DHS keeps telling their agents they can enter homes without proper warrants or fail to identify. A legitimate reason to fire in self defense or fear for their life like any cop does can be used to justify shooting an agent who has no identifying insignia, refuses to identify and is masked while forcing their way into a home.

The 2nd amendment folks are already upset with Trump after he said lefty protesters should not have guns at protests or anywhere near them. Oooh a big no-no for 2nd amendment supporters.

    1. You cannot document any of the actions you assert are happening, at all, let alone on a regular basis – like your fellow traveler “Anonymous,” you are on a “holiday from reality.”

    2. You’ve got it all back-A$$-wards: the RAGE BAIT goes on incessantly in mainstream media, from celebrity awards clique-ceremonies, to histrionic and uncivil talk shows, to “fake-news.” Turley is reporting on the RAGERS because they themselves churn the news and their goal is social breakdown. Telling a centrist American (Turley) not to report on the leftist-RAGE is like saying, “What Tsunami?!” No warning, or worse, no serious response to the dangerous phenomena—After a 9.5 earthquake off the coastline.

Nadler’s comment is SO WRONG as to be more than insurrectionist, but outright evil. No response to ICE can be called “self’defense” when the agitators are attacking first.

If you don’t like masks, tell your paid street people to take them off first, and set the example. You’d be surprised at how fast the tensions would end, when your own progeny would stop the aggression, and protest civilly and legally.

And the big no-no: lefties arming themselves??? What in the Sam-heLL are you taking about??? You all are the gun-haters, disarmers, who don’t know the difference between” carrying” to save lives rather than carrying to back up insurrection.

  4. The proponents of mistaken identity or “Stand Your Ground” laws will find no support or protection thereunder. They are not standing. They have stooped so low as to be possibly confused with rodents, which could serve to thwart their purpose.

    1. If ANYthing, the “stand your ground” defense is more applicable to ICE-agents who are constantly being harangued, impeded, and physically attacked.

  5. Democrats like Nadler are in this for money and power; period.
If their flow of illegals dries up, and they are unsuccessful at stopping Voter ID and vote-in-person, they will lose not only the swing states, but a whole lot of other currently-blue states.
Why would any reasonable person think that giving illegals drivers licenses was for any reason other than enabling them to vote?
The irony is that anyone who is against deporting illegals should really be mad at the Democrats, whose open border policies turned the vast majority of Americans against any consideration of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, which had been gaining in popularity prior to the Biden administration.
Regardless, we are weary of caring about Democrats’ judgement of LEOs doing their jobs by enforcing laws Congress passed many years ago.
This issue was what won Trump the 2024 election, and the longer MN lawlessness is allowed by Democrats to go on, the more Independents and Libertarians will vote for Republicans.

  6. What’s truly tragic is the number of people who believe the Left’s lies. When were elementary school children tear gassed? Where? I need verifiable documentation. No snippets, no AI doctoring. Also tragic- that the Left, to fulfill its dreams of unendable power, defends rapists, murderers, sex traffickers, drug traffickers, and other felons, many of whom are repeat offenders, and has no sympathy for the Laken Rileys of US citizenry.

  7. Rep. Jerry Nadler’s current term expires in January 3, 2027, as he will not seek re-election in the 2026 midterm elections, marking the end of his 34-year congressional career. The 78-year-old Democrat announced in September 2025 that he is retiring to allow for a generational change in leadership.

Final Term: Nadler is serving out the remainder of his 17th term, which concludes at the start of the 119th Congress in January 2027.
Background: Representing New York’s 12th District (previously 10th and others), Nadler has been a fixture in Manhattan politics since 1992.
Succession: Nadler indicated he would not seek re-election and is expected to support former aide Micah Lasher for the seat, reported by the Columbia Daily Spectator.

Rep. Jerry Nadler’s ~ End of Term = 333 from today.

  8. The tiny insane left is hogging all the news cycle by trying to out-do the rage from the leftist next to them. It’s a virtue-signaling olympics at this point but the ‘virtue’ gets weirder and weirder as they leap-frog each other until you get a truly outrageous situation like in Minnesota. They have to egg each other on and work up the anger in order to riot for something so stupid. And they all want to be the “star” for “likes”. They don’t need an ‘issue’ to have a riot anymore either as they manufacture them. DEI is dead. sexually mutilating children is over. illegal aliens leaving. All their narrative, bye bye.
Now what is really going on in the world is Trump is crushing oppressive regimes worldwide including here. I cannot believe how effective he has been and now, with 3 more years to go, it looks like he will reshape the world, putting America firmly at the helm again.
Commies and Authoritarians are fighting it and have no choice but to act out. What else do they have but their few idiots to believe in any of their crap. Idiocracy reigns on the left now as their rage has silenced any voice of reason and they are left only with leaders stupid enough to incite riots and repeat obvious lies. I for one can’t wait to hear their next insane idea that drives normal’s from their party. I smile at every unbelievably dumb thing they say and hope everyone hears it too. Please use your free speech more, come up with more insanity, it’s entertaining at this point.
Bunch of babies that can’t handle losing bigly.

  9. What am I missing? A protest turned into a riot is an insurrection, yet the other sides riots were mostly peaceful protests while federal buildings burn behind reporters. Protesting from one side against illegals is unAmerican and the other side fighting Federal ICE agents doing their job is seen as good.

I am very glad Nadler is retiring. What he is doing along with others is going to get people killed. Then they will all scatter to the wind and hide from their own words when this happens.

I get that not all are happy with the roundups. I get this is passionate and tempers flare. I even can get threats due to anger. Yet, when the lunatic fringe crosses over the line and people are hurt or even killed, I hope these same people understand they may be in line for prosecution.

  10. People who experience real life-threatening violence, such as soldiers in our wars, do not glamorize violence. In most cases, they are sickened by it. For most of our history, every generation has had “its war”. But since the debacle in S. Vietnam, most men have had no contact with wars or even military service. Thus it is easy for well-educated men, plus women who have not had experience of war, to play with the idea of mass violence. It’s like being in a movie to them.

    1. I am in favor of America drafting 1/4 of its manpower needs. It is time for Americans to get some skin in the game.

    2. edwardmahl,
As someone who has deployed to a war zone, you would be correct.
Good acted like her obstruction was a game.
Pertti went to a protest armed up like he thought he was John Wick.
I have stated on the good professor’s blog before, a civil war needs to be avoided. The rage rhetoric by the likes of Nadler, Walz, the Total Wine guy, is not helping.

  11. Based on his demented logic, we’d be justified in harpooning his bloated ass just because he’s offensive.

  12. Whether characterized as good or bad, the genesis of a revolution is usually ramped up by vile points of view and propaganda to inject fear, anxiety and hatred within the general public in order to establish the mob mentality standing against what once had been.

  13. Justified shootings of law enforcement officers in uniform – performing their jobs lawfully, I might add – because they’re wearing masks? Sounds like the next step would be to justify violence against opposing ‘leadership’ encouraging such unlawful behavior. What say you, Representative Nadler aka Mr. Poopy Pants?

  14. You’ve become nothing but a shill for Trump; I as a libertarian am deeply disappointed. Defending masked federal agents because of “doxing” is pathetic and your reasoning could apply to any government worker at any level. What happened to the idea of “small government”? Are you too young to remember Reagan’s humorous, “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you?” You have become a Fox News please-the-audience writer and are no longer, in my opinion (and I, too, was a lawyer from a distinguished Chicago law school [U of C]), an honest broker

    1. John, you assert that wearing masks because of doxxing is “pathetic. You don’t tell us why that is pathetic or what exactly federal officers are to do in this rage environment that puts officers and their families in danger. Immigration enforcement is a difficult job. After all, it involves removing people who want to stay here and, in many cases, actively – and illegally – resist. Agents enforcing the law are often in harm’s way. Your cavalier pronouncement against them wearing masks to protect themselves and their families sounds more like it is coming from a partisan hack than an intelligent lawyer.

  15. Democrat politicians use their rhetoric to send people out knowing all the while they themselves will not be charged with the crime. Power, by whatever means, is their goal.

    1. After hearing from law enforcement friends who are stuck working in Minneapolis, I now believe that at least the DFL party in Minnesota needs to be charged with treason because they are the ones inciting an overthrow of any part of the government that believes in the Minnesota & US Constitutions! They are also willfully endangering the lives of the citizens of the Twin Cities!

  16. The inflammatory rhetoric of “No-neck” Nadler and other brain-dead Democrats like AZ A.G. Kris Mayes and Conn. Senator Chris Murphy confirm, once more, that no Democrat should ever again be allowed within 52 factorial cubed parsecs of elective or governmental office. They are toxic to the Republic.
