Wrong Number: California Citizens Cannot Even Call 911 on Boondoggles

“During my first week in office, I proposed making crucial updates to modernize our antiquated 911 system. The idea that it’s 2019, and we are using analog systems designed decades ago is astounding, and we need to make investments to make sure the technology aligns with the devices people are using in their daily lives. California’s antiquated, analog microwave network must be upgraded to a digital network to maintain safety operations that can integrate into the 21st century technology everyone is using.”

The problem is that “when the time came to turn that system on, it didn’t work.” Of course, as with his high-speed rail, many became fantastically wealthy off the project while the public got stiffed. California citizens “still are depending on an emergency communication system that Newsom denounced as antiquated.”

Just the high-speed rail and emergency call systems are hundreds of times overbudget. Yet, it does not seem to matter to California voters, who seem to have no expectations that their government officials will be either competent or accountable.

  1. Is anyone really surprised?
CA voters keep voting for failure and incompetence over and over again and again.
Recently Bill Maher even tore into Newsome for his failures, “I mean the train! Gavin, you got to get rid of the train!” Maher said. “I say this as a friend, you got to let that train go! Let the train go.”

    1. Upstate, you and I are on the same page about the failures out here, but I’d be a bit more precise than “CA voters keep voting for failure.” A lot of us conservatives in California are fighting our tails off against this system, just like folks in red states push back when the country elects Biden or Obama. I’d never say “Americans keep voting for corruption” and lump you in with that, so it’s a little intellectually lazy when people do it to Californians who are in the fight, not the problem.

  2. For anyone who is following it, “Timmy the Whale” seems to be moving faster than either Newsom’s 911 “rescue” line or his railway.
(Two private financiers funded his rescue and release.) Maybe Newsom needs to appeal to some of California’s best.

    1. Turley relies on Grammarly, a paid subscription. Perhaps he was being lazy today and decided not to use it for this article.

    2. Grammar? It’s fine, but did you recently graduate from a public school? In a democrat-run city? Reading is Fundamental.
I’m more concerned with leftys trying to change the subject when discussing democrats wasting money like it’s not theirs.

      1. Grammar is not fine. Some have noticed this post has issues. Turley does rely on Grammarly to correct spelling and grammar errors.

        1. And lefties will point at spelling and grammar to misdirect and confuse the conversation. Every. Damn. Time. It’s a well worn and effective tactic, granted its effectiveness by naifs.

  3. Instead of hiring 87,000 IRS agents, we need to hire 87,000 fraud investigators to figure out where the money is going in these money laundering schemes. People need to go to jail.

  4. Blaming Governor Newsom for California’s high-speed rail struggles is historically inaccurate, as the project was championed and signed into law by Republican Governors Pete Wilson and Arnold Schwarzenegger long before Newsom took office.

If we’re discussing fiscal responsibility, it’s curious how critics like Jonathan Turley overlook the White House ballroom fiasco under the Trump administration. Despite claims that $400 million in private donations would cover the cost, the public is now being asked to foot the bill.

Even worse, a lawsuit from watchdog groups has revealed that the donor list remains secret, raising serious questions about where that private money went and who was actually trying to buy influence. Turley’s focus on ‘waste’ seems to have a massive blind spot when it comes to the lack of transparency in the previous administration.

Then there’s the FoxConn ‘promise’ of thousands of jobs and $10 billion in investment. What ended up happening is local communities were left holding the bag and a pitiful number of jobs.

If Turley is asking why Californians keep supporting expensive projects that go nowhere and not hold their elected officials accountable perhaps he should look at why Trump supporters do the the same thing when it’s Trump supporting overpriced projects that lead to nothing but a nifty little profit in HIS pocket.

Maybe we should outsource these kinds of projects to the Chinese. At least they get things done on time and fix issues immediately if they are not working right. Better yet, why not have the Chinese build our high speed rail? After all they did build our railroads back in the 1800’s.

    1. “If Turley is asking why Californians keep supporting expensive projects that go nowhere and not hold their elected officials accountable perhaps he should look at why Trump supporters do the the same thing when it’s Trump supporting overpriced projects that lead to nothing but a nifty little profit in HIS pocket.”

Please, tell us what Trumps scams are? It seems odd that a man you accuse of skimming the federal budget has had a huge LOSS of wealth while in office.

      1. Trump’s ballroom for one. He said it was being paid by private donors, and now he’s asking us to pay for it. Where did the private money go?

Foxconn. It was supposed to be a $10billion investment with thousands of American jobs and new manufacturing. They built the plant but did not produce the thousands of jobs and local communities got stuck with the high taxes paying for the incentives that never produced the extra income and jobs.

Loss of wealth? Trump is raking it in. He’s getting millions in ‘settlements’ and cryptocurrency scams. Selling gold phones, trump bibles, and now his ballroom. Republicans are now calling for the taxpayer to pay for it. So is he going to give back the $400 million he got for it from private donors? I doubt it. But you will be ok with it, just like California voters.

    2. Good Lord! How much time did it take you to research AI and selectively excerpt anything you could find that was negative?

It’s sunny across most of America this morning. Go take a bike ride and get some fresh air into these stale posts. Thank you in advance. Yours truly, lin.

      1. Lin, why aren’t you doing the same thing? So you’re upset that I pointed out a flaw in Turley’s gripe about Newsome? By the way negative? So Turley writing negatively about governor Newsome is not subject to criticism by pointing out similar negative views of Republican Governors and presidents?

Come on Lin, I thought you were better than that.

You didn’t mention what I posted was not inaccurate. As I have always said, Turley is fair game. If you don’t like the fact that I find an opposing view and perspective about his complaint and why it’s odd that he ignores similar boongoodles, from Republican governors and presidents. Thanks in advance.

        1. We ran a mile this morning, then went to Denny’s for a great breakfast! Thanks for your concern.
By the way, I never thought you were better than that. Thanks anyway.

          1. Geez Lin, bitter after a nice “run”. Wow. You’re not the only one/s who get up early to workout. But thanks for your concern.

Perhaps you should keep working on how the idea of “fair game” works. Thanks.

          2. Lin, I bike five days a week, I love a big breakfast and I too never thought X was better than that.

        2. “Lin, why aren’t you doing the same thing? So you’re upset that I pointed out a flaw in Turley’s gripe about Newsome? “

The truth is your research stinks and you lie.

Wilson was very circumspect about High Speed Rail in California, but like a good governor should be, he looked into it but didn’t fuel it. Schwartzeneger originally approved of it at less than $10 Billion, but when he saw the increase in price he rejected it.

The Democrat governors continued to push more and more spending into something that should never have been born. From the $10 Billion rejected by Schwarzenager, it is now $231 and growing because Democrats unlike the Reublican governors have no fiscal restraint.

You are again proving yourself a fool and a liar. I could prove this in every posting you make but I do not need to show a fool wrong more than 1:10, especially since he runs away knowing he has no response for his BS. Why anyone but another fool would agree with him with him is something I can’t figure out. GSX is worthess as are the rest.

    3. “Blaming Governor Newsom for California’s high-speed rail struggles is historically inaccurate . . .”

For the last *16 years*, California has had a democrat governor — first Governor Moonbeam, now Governor Brain Dead.

That’s a lot of history to accomplish nothing.

      1. Sam, Republican Governors have also supported the high speed rail idea. Wilson was a big supporter of high speed rail.

        1. Yes, Republican governors supported the high-speed rail idea. Every governor going back to at least the 1970s supported the idea. But all the money spent on the actual project – including all of the many billions in cost overruns – has been spent under Democrat Governors Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom. It wasn’t wasted by Republicans, only by Democrats.

          1. It is almost like X writes for AP the way he skews “facts”, elides negatives and lies.

    4. BUT, here, we are asking why Californians keep supporting expensive projects that go nowhere and not hold their elected officials accountable. Do you want to discuss that or are you saying republicans are just as bad as democrats or what? How come you always deflect? are you just getting tired of searching for ways to criticize the current successes? I mean, readers here don’t fall for “yeah, but..”.
Chinese? yes when you enslave a nation you can ‘get things done’ because people are motivated not to die because they failed the party, in contrast to our personal self-interest to succeed over here in individual-land.
X, are you suggesting that Newscum and California are just fine, no problems? I bet you cannot come up with a criticism for either as they are your masters. Get pithy.

      1. Enslave a nation? What are you talking about? The Chinese emphasize education and progress as a civilization and it shows.

Why would I come up with criticism of Newsome and California when Turley already did. I don’t live in California and I don’t have an issue with another state’s problems. Turley likes to focus on problems only when they involve Democrats or blue states, seems more of a jealousy problem or just plain ol’ partisan hackery for the benefit of his readers. Either way he is fair game for criticism and picking apart his arguments.

      2. Republicans are just as bad. But Turley won’t bring it up because he’s not paid to do that. I get it. But luckily there are those who can point it out and show why Turley’s opinion not only seriously biased, but lacking in honesty.

    5. “[T]he [ballroom] donor list *remains secret*, raising serious questions about where that private money went and who was actually trying to buy influence.” (emphasis added)

You have a fantastic ability to spread lies. Then to smear people based on those lies. Then when caught with your pants down (a daily event), to lie some more by claiming that your lies are just “criticism.”

The ballroom private donor list has been public and widely publicized for some 9 months.

  5. So the greasy politician runs on ‘improving’ something few voters know about, how it works or how much it costs or even how well it works and he comes off sounding like a technical and financial genius and it turns out the numbers the public were ‘sold’ on were just numbers he made up to sound smart, like he had all the answers already, and the supposed needed technical improvements that would protect you from scary 911 failures were also made up. Yet ALL the actual problems california has will have to go by the wayside because he doesn’t have any real solutions. And now this guy is all over the media like he’s the democrats darling? Have I got all that right?
    Democrats voters are stupid!

  6. The main thing that I think most people want to know is whether there is a Paywall between California and the rest of the United States. Mainly to protect us from the crash that appears imminent. This state is obviously heading towards a train wreck of massive proportions. Even a beautiful state with incredible resources, a world class economy, and a helluva lot of extremely bright people can still screw it up.
Mr. Newsom thinks he is the Music Man (who eventually saw the light) but in point of fact he is Elmer Gantry and the light will never show for him.
I would mourn for the voters out there but, as some have already pointed out, they voted for him and then did it again and again. Of course the Federal Government had some part to play as they continually carved out special arrangements for this state and with virtually no oversight.
It would appear the wealth tax may be the final nail in this state’s coffin. Now certain groups of people in California seem to be trying to outrace their governor on the way financial oblivion.

    1. It depends on who is president at the time of the collapse. If it is Trump, I think they will be on their own. If Gavin, then of course they get all the tax money the feds receive. And the make up of congress, 2/3 majority or not.

This is difficult for me as my better half gets a small pension from Cal Pers which is underfunded as well.

  7. Would you buy a used car from this man?
Will the real Gavin Newscum please stand up? This guy is all over the map trying to be whoever he isn’t. Love the arrogance thinking he knows better than an army of capitalist Electrical Engineers that built that system (and are capable adults able to accomplish tasks). Throws out words like analog and microwave like he understands what he is talking about. “I’m so smart!” and then try to be a humble dummy too ‘I’m like you’.
Gavin Newsome exudes insincerity. Even he knows the real Gavin is icky.

  8. Is it me or is Gavin the biggest nothing alive? He’s not rugged. No charm. Not husky or built well. Not authoritative. Thinks he’s pretty. Not articulate. Comes across as very insecure seeking self-worth through approval of others.
I get it. He’s the Dream Guy for the wok chicks. Holy cow!

    1. And he admits he can’t read. Maybe that’s why he signs appropriation bills that are destined to fail from the get-go.

    2. The billionaire Getty family backed his business ventures and helped launch his political career. He’s a Getty puppet.

  9. Democrats currerntly get more money the worse they make it. END FEDERAL aid to cities, states, non-profits and colleges

Outlaw the PUBLIC UNIONS, the political army of the democrats illegally FUNDED by Taxpayers!

    1. In fairness, that’s the democrat doctrine: reward losers and punish winners. Take a look at ANY of their plans, schemes, etc and you will see this one truth. They are always trying to put a roadblock on productivity, individual gain, personal wealth, the american desire of individual independance from nanny government. Their definition of selfishness is you doing better for yourself without them.

  10. Why do voters get energized by expensive and corrupt government failures? Because the mass media plays its role of propagating hoaxes like the “murder” of George Floyd and “the existential crisis” of global warming.

    1. And the “911 is failing and you won’t get through! Vote for MEeeee!” scam.
Government Fails > Voters afraid > Politician promises fix > Voters vote ’em in > $ disappears > REAL problems from fix > Repeat.
All politicians must find fault with government to get elected, but the faults they run on ought to be sincere needs, not just a path for exiting tax dollars to big donors. So sick of politician’s ‘pet projects’. Can’t ask a voter what really needs attention as none of that has an easy answer.
      ‘Monorail’ Government.

  11. It is so confusing that the press/public criticizes the current administration for not fixing things in 2 months, but a Leftist administration can just keep spending and promising with no consequence. Mamdani promises government grocery stores and announces they will be done in 2029 for $30M and the supporters cheer!

  12. “. . . and we need to make investments to make sure the technology aligns with the devices people are using in their daily lives.”
I thought an “investment” was something done that put your own money at risk. Politicians make “investments” with other people’s money and, like Newsome, become fabulously wealthy after doing do even when these “investments” fail taxpayers miserably and for which politicians pay no personal consequence. It would be interesting to know how much of Newsome’s “investment” in the companies contracted to build out this digital 911 network was grifted back to his campaign and to the campaigns of the legislators that appropriated taxpayer’s money for this economic fiasco. Add this “investment” to the $231 BILLION high-speed rail “investment” and the $2.2 BILLION “investment” in the Ivanpah solar electricity “investment” in the California desert that has increased, not decreased, electricity rates for Californians, and soon you are talking real money. Yet the Californian sheeple continue to elect these charlatans. Ever wonder why so many politicians are in favor of legalizing weed?

    1. It’s even worse than you describe because these Democratic voters keep voting for the obvious graft, fraud, and corruption. The voters are actually approving this so why should these politicians stop. It’s actually maddening and sickening what’s happening to California

      1. These voters are intensely gratified to merely be on the same team as the grifters, thieves, and felons.

    2. This is so true, politicians speak about investments and ‘stakeholders’
Who’s holding the stakes to be put into the heart of these vampire government boondoggles that suck the blood from our economy?

  13. “$450 billion”? I didn’t get far into that Sacramento Bee story before the paywall kicked in, but far enough to read the actual price. This topic comes to mind: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Innumeracy_(book)

Seems like the whole premise of this post is wrong. $231 billion plus $450 MILLION is still $231 billion. Also it isn’t exactly Newsom’s train since we the people voted for it, I’m sorry to say.

    1. See? This is a great example of a voter that is intensely gratified to merely be on the same team as the grifters, thieves, and felons.

  14. Boongoodle? As in the headline?
Boongoogle? As in “… but that does not appear to be his biggest boongoogle.”?

    New ones to me.🤣🤣🤣🤣

  15. Y’all had a chance to get rid of him and you voted them back in. Ask him where the money went. He knows!!

  16. Boongoodle? Boongoogle? Who writes this stuff? Surely it can’t be Turley. I always thought it was “boondoggle.” But, I don’t know. Google it.

    1. Look at the word again. Turley wrote BoonGOODLES, nothing to do with Google. A play on boondoggle to emphasize the good “intent”.

      1. Boongoogle appears in the text-

“… but that does not appear to be his biggest boongoogle.”

If it was an attempt on a play on words, it was an unfortunate miss… and funny.

  17. For National Socialists, the “idea” is what matters, not the results. If the intention is righteous, the outcome is irrelevant. As long as massive spending is done with a smile, with the promise of endless rainbows and unicorn trails, California Democrats will keep voting for their favorite National Socialist candidates.

    1. A defensible pretext is all a leftist needs to pry open the bank vault wide enough to loot hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars. See: all Blue States.

  18. Bah haha. It’s Cali Baby! Surfer Dudes and Dudettes who are obviously oblivious to Newscum pissing away their tax dollars. They just have to hold on long enough for a Dem Pres like AOC or Newscum to get a Federal Bailout for every hair-gel idea. That Dung Hole is never going to change because the low IQ voters just love the weather and the freedom to be Numb Nuts! Wait until the state tax rate goes to 50% because some moron has to pay the bills right? Haha, the new Somalia in 10 years!

      1. The people who voted for Newsom do strictly on ideological beliefs. They have no regard for common sense and are so arrogant that they believe their beliefs could never be wrong. Sad!
