Below is my column on Fox.com about Graham Platner’s withdrawal and the start of post-Platner politics in the Democratic Party.
Here is the column:
This week, Democrats are fighting to keep Maine after shedding their morals.
The controversy in Maine over Graham Platner was a modern remake of the scene from “A Man for All Seasons” in which Sir Thomas More confronts Richard Rich, a former protege who lied in court to secure his conviction in exchange for being named attorney general of Wales. As Rich passes by, More asks: “For Wales? Why, Richard, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world … but for Wales!”
For Democrats, they might not even have Wales to show for their “profit.”
Platner withdrew from the race Wednesday night. Even with that decision, Democratic politicians will be wearing the mark of Platner for the rest of their careers after dismissing earlier allegations in their quest to take back power.
Of course, a Platner withdrawal from the Senate race could well prove an upgrade. After all, it is hard not to improve on an alleged Nazi-tattooed, Hamas-praising, veteran-bashing, sex-texting, Communism-embracing accused rapist. However, politicians such as Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Sheldon Whitehouse, Ro Khanna, and others will long wallow in a post-Platner party.
These Democrats led the mob against now Justice Bret Kavanaugh, insisting that women had to be believed. Whitehouse said he is “unimpressed” by the allegations from multiple women as “a lot of nothing.” He also reminded voters that one of the alleged victims is a Republican.
Warren was equally undeterred, bouncing on the stage with Platner while proclaiming that he was “My kind of man.” It did not matter that he was accused of rape and other abuse. He would deliver a major committee chair for Warren if they retook power.
As with Swalwell, the establishment moved to destroy Platner only after polls showed him unlikely to beat Sen. Susan Collins. Suddenly, the same pattern emerged. CNN and the Washington Post suddenly ran stories of new allegations just days before the deadline for Platner to voluntarily withdraw. The same candidates and media that downplayed the allegations earlier suddenly became a convention of Claude Rains in claiming to be “shocked, shocked” that yet another woman was raising the same allegations.
For Whitehouse, the new woman had the benefit of being liberal since apparently the alleged rape of Republican women was “seemed like a lot of nothing.”
The media also pushed back that there was no reason for them to have believed the earlier women before the polling changed.
Bulwark’s Michelle Goldberg at least acknowledged her role in the early press pump for Platner while calling for his withdrawal. Gone now is her gushing account in the New York Times of how he proved “nothing like the edgelord caricature I encountered online.” She added, “Platner is magnetic. Like Obama, he seems to promise a politics that is fundamentally progressive while going beyond debased partisan sniping.”
The Maine Democratic Party has announced that it will choose his replacement. After an anti-establishment election in which Platner won by 72 percent and crushed the sitting governor in fundraising, the Democratic Party announced that “We have repeatedly reiterated to Graham Platner’s team that they have no role in determining our next Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate.”
For many, it sounds like a Kamala Harris redux by the Democratic establishment, though they will hold a “convention” of 600 people to make the selection. The rhetoric could backfire.
The irony is that these politicians are drawing distinctions that would have been unthinkable just months ago. Ro Khanna insisted, after withdrawing his support and appearing at a rally for Platner, “I’ve been very clear that sexual assault or violence against women is a red line.”
The problem is that women had previously accused him of such violence, but Khanna endorsed him anyway. The goalpost moved higher and higher for women, where rape (involving a liberal woman) was now the red line for Democratic politicians.
The actual red line appeared to be polling that showed that Platner could not deliver his side of the Faustian bargain. He could not deliver Maine. Suddenly, again, women had to be believed and the party had to choose his replacement.
The greatest irony would be Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, who attracted national attention by pushing an unconstitutional effort to block Trump from the presidential ballot. Her disregard for constitutional values would be highly appealing to many in the party who want to take over the Supreme Court by packing it with an instant liberal majority.
Bellows previously campaigned on her unconstitutional actions as the ultimate “win-by-any-means” Democrat. After being roundly defeated in a run for governor (garnering only 20 percent of the vote), she could now run in the general without having run a true primary campaign.
Of course, Bellows also campaigned with Platner despite the earlier allegations but insisted that he should step aside for her.
It is all part of achieving real power. Just ask Richard Rich. Of course, it may profit these politicians nothing to give their souls for the whole world, but they may not even get Maine in the bargain.
Jonathan Turley is a law professor and the New York Times best-selling author of “Rage and the Republic: The Unfinished Story of the American Revolution.”
Antennae, those organs of insects to warn of danger and risk. It was often said that politicians had them, if nothing else. Well, that’s over. Platner should have triggered these instincts for the Democrats. But no, they jumped right in to support a stick of dynamite, fused and lit. Now, it’s exploded. With their antennae gone, it seems now the Democrats simply follow the biggest smell.
They lack antennae but they do have weathervanes. The problem is the weather they watch is their own hot air, not real people.
Wet sacks of moral and ethical turpitude. The candidacy, the electorate and those on high in the Democrat Party who lent vocal support to it. Not a millimeter of moral high ground to be gained from the lot of them.
How low can the dems go? I mean, I can see how ‘low’ they can go from the article, I’m asking how low can they go in the polls? Is this what happens to defunct political parties? they just disappear?
History will not be kind to this once powerful party of racism.
How low you ask? You voted for Trump, that’s more than just pretty low eh?
Re: ” You voted for Trump” The wretched trainwreck of the former administration and its minions, which tore a rent in the fabric of this nation, with the policies and protocols it advocated and supported, facilitating access to those who were responsible for the grief, sorrow and heartache suffered by so many of our citizens. The loss suffered by the Angel Families and others of their ilk is on you and others like you. There is no retort you, and others like you, can offer up to this body of contributors herein which will absolve you of that guilt. I curse you with it and for it, you and your house, now and forever. Live with it!!
You do not seem to grasp that the allegations against Platner, Swallwell and other democrats just prove YOUR TDS.
Trump was elected because rational people do not beleive idiotic made up allegations against him.
Platner and Swallwell dropped out because the allegations against them are so credible they could and should be successfully prosecuted.
Regardless, if you beleive that there is some parity in misconduct – then Platner and SwallWell should not have dropped out.
There is no longer a Democrat party, Obama successfully placed the organization in downward spiral. The Biden years are proving the total end of the organization. What’s left now are hater’s of America, many foreign born who are bent on turning America into a Marxist state, run by them. Academia has played a big part in fouling the mind of our young who show no love for a country that gives them endless opportunities. The question now, are there enough Americans left to repel the attack of the interlopers?
Good points. But who’s really to blame? You Republicans of course. While you all wallowed in your egos in the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s, the smart dems were playing a long game. Your generation caused this all not a bunch of recent university graduates. Foreigners were sizing up the USA for invasion. And succeeded. Some 30 million. What did your Gen do? Watched the nightly news.
You old people are still full of yourselves. You caused this situation. You are to blame, not the dems. But isn’t it so typical American, thinking you’re so smart and confident, but yet a handful of Arabs destroyed your society in 2001. Now a couple millions militant Iranians control the world. Can’t deny that. Foreigners are taking over and all you do is whine here everyday. So typical….
Do you think placing blame is how complex problems (e.g., geopolitical conflicts) get solved? They only get solved by taking responsibility for charting a better geostrategic posture, and being willing to be accountable for results, including unintended effects.
From your comment, it’s impossible to know if you have anything better in mind for foreign policy. Do you?
The iranian Mullahs have been a problem that was going to have to be dealt with eventually for the past 50 years.
That day finally could not be put off further.
The US is trying to defeat Iran’s leaders and the IRGC and Basij without screwing the Iranian people – who will have to live in the country after their crazy leaders are gone. Defeating Iran is easy. Doing so while minimizing the harm to 90M Iranians is more difficult. Doing so with extremely minimal US casualties is also difficult.
Trump is having a great deal of difficulty doing something that has never been done before – getting an enemy to surrender without putting forces on the ground.
Despite that he is teetering on success.
There is no scenario that ends with Iran “winning” – the only question is how fast do they lose and who holds power in Iran when the dust clears.
Iran would have to be utterly annihilated because they won’t accept anything less. DJT ultimately won’t do that. It’s similar to Vietnam in some twisted way.
Please take your meds.
Is the older generation responsible for sitting idly by as our children were indoctrinated into idiocy – that is correct.
As to the rest ? This nation has always been a nation of immigrants. The problem is not immigration it is unfettered illegal immigration.
And no Iran does not control the world.
MB – increasingly democrat support among minorities is bleeding away. Increasingly The democratic party is the party of young white indoctrinated women.
It is the party of white guilt,
While US citizens get to decide who can and can not immigrate to this country – the belief of those on the left that minority immigrants will give them a permanent majority is idiocy. Support for conservatives is rising among all immigrant groups and minorities. There are narrow republican minority majorities among hispanics in several places.
But most everywhere Republicans have gained 10 or more points among minorities in the past decade.
Immigrants have as much or more love of this country. They are less influenced by the left wing nut march throught the institutions. In many cases they have left their homes because of the failures of the left.
You can both be for secure borders and deporting illegal immigrants and recognize this nation is and has always been a nation of immigrants.
MB, a concise and accurate analysis 😊
For the D’s, Nazi sympathies are not disqualifying. Embracing Iranian terrorists is not disqualifying. Promoting statist ideas that destroy individual rights, not disqualifying.
To them, politics is a game of Limbo: Let’s get flexible enough to go under a really low bar.
Ahh, the Democrat Party. The land of hypocrisy and double standards. The ends justify the means.
Anyone that can’t see the game the dems have been playing for years in plain sight or the sick creature they have metamorphosed into is past needing their eyes checked – unless of course, they approve. There is no other word for the modern left other than the dictionary definition of ‘madness’.
It would be fascinating to observe were our country not on the line.
Wait, wait… playing for years?
Never takes long for JT’s resident imbecile to chime in.
Chime in. And so you did…
There is still an annoying pulse of Sir Thomas More himself within the Democrat Party. P.A. Sen. John Fetterman joined with his Republican counterpart Sen. Dave McCormick to man the P.A. Booth at the D.C. July 4 250th celebration. Overriding P.A. Dem. Gov. Josh Shapiro’s decision to not participate. At least twice now, Kamala Harris with no primary, and Graham Platner with no vetting, that they know how to do, their politics of division and quest for power has led to awful optics. And outcomes for them. Politics on the other side of the aisle might well take up Jonathan’s analogy and get across the idea that Democrat voters are being given candidates by Henry VIII redux.
Dayenu is supposed to be that would’ve been enough. With Platner it’s the opposite. The Nazi‑style ink should’ve been enough. The first woman should’ve been enough. The pattern of stories should’ve been enough. But it wasn’t about a moral compass, it was about a Senate seat. So they kept stacking verses of the song until the polls tanked and suddenly, now, it’s “enough.” That’s not values, that’s pure power math, and both parties run the same play.
Trump’s sexual assault conviction should have been enough. Trump’s groping admission should have been enough. His infidelity with Stormy should have been enough.
But you rep. voters ignored all that, put Trump in power again, and now attack Platner for being doing the same. Hypocrisy or loyalty? Values?
JT’s resident imbecile and his fantasy history lesson.
Re:” Trump’s sexual assault conviction ” Platner was tried in the court of public opinion and found guilty. The base characters of those who supported him either newly revealed or re-confirmed. thus far, the nation won’t have to suffer the displeasure of seating another SHPOS in the United States Congress. We have enough there, or in the wings, already. The only way up is to hit bottom first. We are on our way to the latter. We have yet to learn how hard the rebound will be.
‘
Trump was tried in a court. There’s a difference. You realize that right? But to be clear, you Republicans are the cause of this malaise. Democrat’s actions are just the symptoms. You voted for Trump, now you pay …
OJ was tried in a court too and he got off. Do you think partisan juries and judges are infallible?
Political prosecutions, even if they are civil, carry no weight. All of the people tried by Stalin were innocent of the charges against them, no real evidence was adduced, yet they were all convicted by “courts”. New York City has come to resemble the Soviet Union.
Yes, Trump was tried in a kangaroo court for defamation – not assault and later acquitted by tens of millions in the court of public opinion.
We all heard the same evidence – or LACK thereof. If you had 1/10 the evidence against Trump there is with Planter – Trump would be in jail.
Again FDR, JFK, RFK, Ted Kennedy, Clinton, nearly a century of democrat politicians destroying sexual conduct norms.
Republicans did not do this – YOU did.
There is no sexual assault conviction – there is a jury award for alleged defamation that is not credible.
If people believed it Trump would have lost in 2024.
Platner and Swallwell did not grope people – they raped people.
Even tghe Tump E Jean Carroll nonsense – that is not credible at all. Regardless even if you beleive Carroll – you have to decide whether to beleive her when she says they had consensual sex or when she says it might have been sexual assault.
The Planter victims are unequivocal – they were raped, restrained against their will – this was not sex. This was not groping. This was not bad dating.
I believed Daniels until she testified. Sorry, but her story did not hold up. But if you wish to believe her – she says she had tame consensual sex with Trump.
I have had sex with only one woman in my entire life. Today that is extremely unusual. Once again it is DEMOCRATS that normalized infidelity – whether it was FDR or JFK and RFK or Ted Kennedy or Clinton or Al Franken or ….. increasing sexual fidelity is no longer a requirement for public office. It has never been for democrats.
Ano
Trump’s groping admission should have been enough.
*************************
O-please, he was talking about Hollywood you fool. And this has been known for a very long time.
Democrats aren’t socialists, Democrats aren’t Communists
Democrats are FASCISTS
Who want TOTAL centralized power! The destruction of all who oppose them!
THE DEMOCRATS are fighting their 2nd Civil War AGAINST America
Every Single Democrat VOTER HATES America…loves illegals and criminals!
You posted that comment yesterday. Got anything else?
And get you read it
It was true yesterday too.
Bah haha – The Righteous Democrats turn out to be just as big a bunch of HYPOCRITES as the Repubs when the issues get tough and the decisions get very uncomfortable – POWER and MONEY always come first and guide the Group Thought!!! BUMS!!
Sort of brings new meaning “to putting up a “trial balloon”.
As far as Wales is concerned, I always found it a nice place, especially around Port Talbot and Margam Castle.
Send up… a trial balloon. Quotes? What for”
“That’s my kind of man, I want to have him in my teepee,” said Liz Warren. “I want to see his tomahawk.”
Stupid comment.
“That’s my kind of man, I want to have him in my teepee,” said Liz Warren. “I want to see his tomahawk.”
bwahahahahaahaaa
🤣
The geriatric democrats who got rich over the decades on “public service”, like Bernie, Warren and Biden, are going down with a party in flames and I couldn’t be happier. They tried to destroy this country with the senile Biden at the helm but couldn’t do it. These are not statesmen or even people who love our country. They addicted to attention, power and wealth. The next generation however is worse because they have no ethics at all.
Dems going down in flames … to be replaced by socialists. Now that’s worth cheering about eh?
Rep. Valli Geiger Announces Platner Is Backing Her Run for Senate as His Replacement
Who wouldn’t want an endorsement by a serial rapist and Nazi?
WOW…..
Rapist and Nazi huh? How about alleged. Come to think of it, Trump does fit that description…. rapist. Convicted no less.
Get your facts straight. Not convicted of rape.
What are the facts anon?
The woman who said she was raped by him has text messages from him….
No wonder he’s running away
A text message is not a conviction dustoff. Gotta ask, have you seen the texts or just following Fox news accounts?
On the other hand, Trump is convicted of sexual assault, aka rape.
Trump was not “convicted “ of sexual assault. He was found liable in a civil suit, that is NOT a conviction of anything. It’s a pay me thing, like OJ Simpson wrongful death versus first degree murder. Quit lying.
Good point. But useless in any argument. Trump is a sexual predator, has a history…. Jean, Stormy, his Epstein friendship, the mass gropings…. what else? All says sexual predator. Stop denying.
Really, so why were there zero criminal charges brought or even considered? It’s this pesky thing called consensual sex and in the case of “rape is sexy” EJ Carroll a thing called evidence, it was an orchestrated sham. Only in TdS land do people believe what you try to spin here every day. Trump was a multimillionaire in NY, he had more poon chasing his $$ than he had dollars, half of New York was coked up at Studio 54 and Platos retreat. Get real.
Now if you want to talk predator rapist profile, let’s talk about the Juanita Brodderick story.
If Trump is a sexual predator, he pales in comparison to John F Kennedy. The description applies to LBJ too.
Except that he does not have a history. If you beleive Stormy – and I do not, They had tame consensual sex.
Trump was such a great Freind to Epstaint hat he banned him from Mar-A-Lago and reported him to police – likelyu the trigger for Epstains 2008 conviction.
Further contral your claims – there is little doubt Epstain HATED Trump as was out to get him.
What is a “mass groping” ?
If you wish to claim that Trump was a playboy – he has admitted that.
Biden is an actual mass groper – there is even video.
What EVIDENCE do you have regarding Trump?
Yet with all the paper work on Epstein. The dems couldn’t find zip on Trump, but a bunch of dems sure showed up.
Right Bill Clinton and Bill Gates
The jury listened to all the testimony given under oath, then decided who was telling the truth. Trump’s “She made the whole thing up to sell books” didn’t stand up under scrutiny, primarily because nobody (including EJC) in the mid-90s could have possibly known Trump the real estate developer would go into politics 20 years later. So, how could she have been motivated to smear him politically when she she told a colleague about being force-fingered a couple of weeks after it happened?
Common sense wins juries over. Courts of Law are where liars like Trump are finally exposed for their frauds. His impulsive lies when he gets in trouble are not even thought through.
In one sense, I like that the President wears his thoughts on his sleeve. “She’s not my type” says it all — with this comment during the deposition, Trump is boasting that he evaluates women based on their looks and goes after “his type” (or did during the wild ’90s in NYC). Trump is so unfiltered in his mouthing whatever comes to mind, he is not capable of plotting a clever, covert op.
But his lame attempts to sugarcoat and deflect are so obvious, he looks pathetic at times.
Rrrright, her friend and confidant, her only back up… heresay and perjury come to mind. I wonder what her friend got paid…
ATS is either stupid or lying. Given that Carroll can not tell us When this event took place, how can we know that she told the friend “within weeks” ?
Contra ATS – the friend was not helpful – Carroll did not claim this was Trump until 2020 – to anyone – not the friend either.
Has not ever identified a year or even a season – was not specific with the friend as to what happened.
Here’s better questions: why would a real victim wait 20 years to bring suit? Why wouldn’t she have filed criminal charges? Why wouldn’t she have said something publicly, so that other innocent young women be forewarned? Why was the SOL extended long after it had expired in order to invite litigation as a political tactic against Trump. Anyone who fails to smell the aroma of political prosecution needs an examination.
edwardmahl,
The answer: Sham trail.
To Democrats, anything justifies if it “Gets Trump!”
EM – as best we can tell from Carrolls claims regarding when this happened it was 25-30 years earlier.
Further Trump is absolutely correct – Carroll makes money selling books. This was just the latest accusations of prominent people that Carroll profited from.
Who funded Carroll’s case and whose living room did they conspire ? That’s all one needs to know!
The rest of us heard the WHOLE thing. We heard what the judge would not allow the jury to hear. We heard that Carroll accused many many others of raping her. We heard that even though she identified myriads of other men as having raped her – even in books, that until 2020 she never claimed anything regarding Trump.
” Trump’s “She made the whole thing up to sell books” didn’t stand up under scrutiny, primarily because nobody (including EJC) in the mid-90s could have possibly known Trump the real estate developer would go into politics 20 years later. ”
I suggest reading what you wrote several times and think about whther that argument makes sense ?
“So, how could she have been motivated to smear him politically when she she told a colleague about being force-fingered a couple of weeks after it happened?”
Carrol NEVER identified Trump until 2020 -= not even to her “friends” Nor was she specific in her alleged conversations with friends “a couple of weeks” later.
You should try comparing the accounds of Platners victims and the corroborating evidence tot he carroll case.
Platners accusers are VERY SPECIFIC about a SEQUENCE of criminal acts – there is significant consistency between the allegations of each victim.
None of them are fuzzy about the use of FORCE. There is zero doubt there is no consent. Furether their stories are backed up by texts and emails to platner himself and to others contemporaneous with the event. Platner was told unequivocally NOT to ever return or the police would be called. We know the day, the time, the place of Platners conduct. We can check records to find out of Platner and the alleged victim were in the same place or 10,000 miles apart.
NONE of this is true of the Carroll Trump claim. Carroll does not know the year, or the season, she does not know what she was wearing – that claim splattered on the concrete. You say she told freinds within weeks – how do we know ? No one – not Carroll, not the friends has been able to provide a time frame for this allegation. The conversations with friends – do not identify time frames, or even that it was Trump, or what the bad conduct was.
Carroll herself has publicly vascilated over whether the conduct was consensual or not – nor has she been consistent over what that conduct was.
It is actually a crime that this case went to trial. a Plaintiff must state a claim with enough specificity that it can be defended against to get into court.
Numeorus similar bogus allegations against Trump – as well as other high profile figures have been dismissed without tril by plaintiffs who can not tell when and where some allegaed event to place.
“Common sense wins juries over.”
No Juries are supposed to decide cases on the EVIDENCE – there is no evidence in the carroll case.
“Courts of Law” Get things right and they get things wrong.
They perform worst when driven by emotion, or politics.
The buirden was on Carroll to make her case – she did not make enough of a case to get int he door to the courthouse – myriads of stronger cases do not go to trial – because there is not enough evidence to make a claim. Carrolls case even today is too weak to get into the court – execpt in NYC and except against Trump – and everyone knows that – even you.
“In one sense, I like that the President wears his thoughts on his sleeve. “She’s not my type” says it all — with this comment during the deposition, Trump is boasting that he evaluates women based on their looks and goes after “his type” (or did during the wild ’90s in NYC). Trump is so unfiltered in his mouthing whatever comes to mind, he is not capable of plotting a clever, covert op.”
Absolutely none of this is in anyway relevant.
The court should not have allowed a deposition of Trump – that is how weak Carrolls case was. What purpose would a deposition serve ?
The burden of proving a claim is SOLELY on the plaintiff. The defendant has the right to provide evidence to refute the claim – but you can not refute the evidence – when no evidence was provided.
Nothing in Trump’s deposition is relevant.
ATS – a text message is not proof – but it is corroboration – something that did NOT exist in the NYC trials of Trump.
Carroll herself told multiple radically different versions of what allegedly happened. She can not tell us what year or what season the alleged event occured.
Further Carroll wrote a book in which she accused 80 men of raping her – many of them powerful – but Trump is not mentioned in the book.
Carroll AFTER having claimed lots of other people raped her only mentions Trump in the lead up to the 2020 election. That is the only time in 30 years she identifies Trump – and that despite having named dozens of other men as rapists.
Trump was found to have defamed E Jean Carroll – that is not a Conviction of any kind.
That occurred in a kangaroo court on a case that never would have gotten to court and likely would have had the plaintiff sanctioned anywhere else and with any other defendant.
Actually compare the evidence against Platner to that brought by Carrol.
Multiple women have been EXPLICT with the WHERE, WHEN, WHAT.
There is no vagueness in their claims. They remember the date, the time, exactly what Platner did – the entire scenario begining to end.
They have texts – to friends and to platner corroborating their stories. There are multiple allegation – not one or two – all credible.
You are free to disbeleive them and to beleive E Jean Carrol – but if you do you are a moron.
All the Platner story does is HIGHLIGHT the Failure to get Trump in NYC and the reasons that despite the findings of kangaroo Courts Trump is president and Platner may be facing jail.
They’re eating their own!
Hopefully more blood will spill.
Complaining about Democratic morality while ignoring the sexual abuse allegations against Trump, Kavanaugh, and Jim Jordan is textbook conservative hypocrisy. Pundits like Turley weaponize moral values for power, feigning outrage over Platner while ignoring their own side’s scandals. It’s the same transactional politics that drives Republicans to ignore Mitch McConnell’s severe health decline just to protect a thin congressional majority
Complaining about Turley’s morality while ignoring the sexual abuse allegations against Democrats… well George, how come you didn’t flag Platner’s antics months ago? You’re all wise and knowing. You raised no red flags. Gawd, you’re a stupid creature george, on par with dustoff.
Now who’s dumb… that be you ano.
george and I have nothing in common.
Take a bow dustoff. But watch out that your brains don’t slip out.
In common you say? You’re both crazy. And dumb. And Republicans.
X/george in NOT a Rep…
Jezzzz
How would you know?
Dustoff is illiterate, George not so.
I am a registered Republican Dustoff.
So what?
BULL..
Anyone reading the BS you post day after day would see that.
Still lying about the 747-8.
X
Again you fail to grasp – you are not credible.
That is what comes of lying constantly.
and getting caught.
Why bother complaining, Republicans love to ignore sexual abuse allegations as long as their candidate can win…right? So following Republican logic makes sense since THEY have no problem with it. Why should Democrats? Suddenly you worry about morality and decency?
Tell us why should it matter if Trump, Jordan, Kavanaugh and other prominent republicans caught in sexual abuse allegations should be exempt.
Bill Clinton is that you?
Depends on what the meaning of “IS” as in “is you” means. A disbarred lawyer politicians, scum of the earth.
Caught? Don’t forget… you wrote alleged. So their are no facts to support the “allegations”.
we ignore made up sexual assaults that are reported 30 years after the FACT!
Democrats ignore ACTUAL Nazis and SEX Assaults HAPPENING!
We? Actual? You got proof? Oh yeah, a text message from some momma hillbilly in Maine.
There are multiple allegations in Maine – the latest one from a Democrat.
But more than allegations – these are credible allegations – they are falsifiable.
While the burden si always on the accuser – Platner has the ability to disprove all or some of these.
This is not vague allegations from 30 years ago lacking in testable details.
The accusations against Kavanaugh were extremely vague about some incident at a high school party on some uncertain date in an uncertain year at an uncertain location thirty or so years ago and never reported. Compare that with the definite accusation that four years ago Platner forced his way into her house and raped her.
Caleb
The article also indicated that she had several texts back and forth with him that she deleted in coping with the incident but remember, the internet is forever…
That would be called supporting evidence. I would bet that’s the only reason that he bailed out. He knew what he did and evidence that would prove it beyond a doubt..
There is a date and time these claims regarding Platner took place. If the allegations are false -Platner can prove he was elsewhere.
Well maybe that’s all the justification you needed to vote for your oyster furher rapey toxic man.
While you’re at it, why not minimize being a nazi rapist, it’s on-brand for you for sure.
Write him in, that’ll show ’em!
Because they have not been caught in credible allegations.
If I claim I saw you rape Mona Lisa in the park yesterday – that is an allegation.
But it is not credible. Do I need to explain ?
I do not know if Platner did what these women alleged he did.
But I do KNOW that if he did not – that the calims are sufficiently detailed and specific that it is highly likely he can refute them if false.
He can provide an alibi or other evidence to prove the alleged evidence is false.
There are no specifics to the claims against Kavanaugh, Trump and Jordan sufficient to test them – they are unfalsifiable.
You should not believe all women – you should not disbelieve all women.
You should look at the strength of the evidence.
He’s a Democrat hypocrit. But I repeat myself.
George where how do you come up with such stupidity? What’s your process? Enlighten us.
Trump was sued in civil court for defamation after he said the woman who accused him of some kind of improper conduct in a department store dressing room thirty years before was a liar. She never made a criminal complaint at the time or in all the years subsequent. He was never found guilty of rape.
He was found liable for finger-f’ing her non-consensually. Juries decide facts based on objective evidence.
Was this the same finger that Joe Biden used on Tara Reade?
No he was found to have liabled her.
Plus the dress she claimed to be wearing that day. Had not been made yet.
The allegations against Trump and Kavanaugh are politically convenient accusations without any corroboration, any contemporaneous accounts, an ounce of fact and without either accuser knowing when the said event occurred and in Brett’s case where it occurred or having even one person being told of the event.
Saying someone attacked me (with even the claim not being close to rape) SOME 30 years ago in an unknown place, Kavanaugh, with not one person being told of it or that someone (an actually very famous person) attacked me IN A DEPARTMENT STORE again at some point an (when exactly unknown) without anyone seeing or hearing it, are political lies. For you to push this garbage is bad even for you X. The one time you don’t use AI is because AI wouldn’t lie this egregiously.
So you’re OK with this sort of immorality on the Democrat side? What are you saying? We do it too? so it’s ok? equivalence, right? parity?
Complaining about Democratic morality? WHY aren’t YOU, X? Don’t you think someone should call it out, or would you have preferred to ‘unknowingly’ vote for a nazi-rapist? I guess we HAVE to complain since you’re not. Does X support nazi rapists? What else don’t we know about X? Now he’s scary. Readers, Ask yourself, would X support a nazi rapist just to “Protect a thin congressional majority” like apparently Maine dems would. Electing a nazi rapist is equivalent to leaving an old man some privacy during health issues? Dianne Feinstein. Dianne Feinstein. Dianne Feinstein. Dianne Feinstein. hypocrisy? hypocrisy? hypocrisy? slipping x, slipping.
X: You are right. The morality of our presidents isn’t a Democrat or Republican issue. Both sides have produced less than perfect gentlemen. Given this shared common weakness, our real focus should be on policies. In that regard, do you think a president’s main job is to protect the citizens? If so, Trump et al. should be your choice given what the democrat candidates offer: unvetted open borders, reduce police, abolish ICE, and prisons, and most stupidly, favor skin color, gender, and sexual preference over merit. As James Carvel might say, “It’s policies stupid.”
To clarify, the point is that Republicans claim morality and law as core values, yet discard them the moment they become politically inconvenient. They rarely denounce their own unless forced by absolute necessity. While both parties make excuses, Republicans avoid accountability far more often. Democrats demanded Platner’s exit within hours of the allegations, enforcing their principles immediately. In contrast, Republicans routinely excuse misconduct within their own ranks, yet accuse Democrats of complicity during similar scandals. This staggering hypocrisy—especially among religious conservatives who constantly excuse their own—shows they have no standing to criticize. If anything, Republicans have set a new, transactional standard for political survival.
X
Platner was not forced out because he was credibly accused of Rape, or he was a nazi or a potential child perve.
He was force out because he was losing.
That said – there is a gulf as wide as the pacifc between the credible allegations against Platner – where we know What, when and where – and have lots of contemporaneous corroboration, and where if the allegation is false – Platner has an excellent oportunity to falsify it.
And the allegations that you raise that are not credible and can not be falsified.
You BELEIVE the allegations against Trump, Jordan, Kavanaugh. But there is no evidence, that can be tested – these are vague ancient claims that you either beleive or you do not. Such claims are never supposed to go before juries.
Democrats demanded Platner exit – when it was clear he would lose. The allegations are just a fig leaf – a mechanism to replace him.
Absent these allegations – Platner would still LOSE. Main is a purple to pink state – it is not a deep blue state.
Platener was going to lose and with him go all democrat chances in the senate.
When it was clear Platner was going to lose THEN the allegations suddenly became credible.
This is much the same as happened with Biden. Biden was not forced out because he was demented – he was forced out because he was going to lose.
With respect to Republicans and democrats – REpublicans – politicians and voters tend not to be moved by vague allegations.
Democrats – politicians and voters tend not to be moved by CREDIBLE claims. Pick ANY allegation regarding Platner fromt he start they are ALL credible – and have been for months.
Please name a single allegation against Platner that is not falsifiable and months old atleast ?
Even this latest victim – was named int he NYT article and NYT could have interviewed here over a month ago.
Platner has had the Nazi tattoo for a decade. I do not beleive Platner is a Nazi. I also do not beleive that someone in the military did not know what a totenkoppf – deaths head was.
Platner has been on a social meadia cite specifically for teens and the known haunt of pedo’s for a decade. Again not a vague claim. And known before the primary, and before all these high profile democrats endorsed him.
With respect to Trump – few republicans endorsed him in 2016. he ran with tepid support from Republicans. Even as president many house and senate republicans were constantly back stabbing him. Republicans leaders did not “support ” Trump until after he had falsified most of the claims against him.
Today you make allegations – and Trump is teflon – they just slide off. Why ? Because Trump is the most thoroughly vetted man on the planet and all your past allegations fizzled. No one beleives you anymore.
The fault is in YOU – not Trump, not the rest of us.
“. . . is textbook conservative hypocrisy.”
Which, even if true, does nothing to disprove JT’s *arguments*.
But then arguments and proofs aren’t really your cup of tea.
It’s not an “if true” it IS true. Turley as he’s prone to do often looks for ways to emphasize democrats when they do things Republicans do all the time and he “neglects” to criticize.
There’s plenty of proof. Hence the hypocrisy and laughable argument from Turley. All you need to point out is names. Trump, Kavanaugh, Gaetz, Jim Jordan, Boabert the pervy voyeur at theatres, etc. plenty of examples to draw from.
That is what the proven liar GSX has to say, but most know lying is part of his nature. The other parts are worse.
X – when you have 1/100th the evidence against Kavanaugh ro Trump that you do against Platner – you get to talk.
We KNOW more about FDR or JFK and RFK’s sexual misconduct than we do about Kavanaugh or Trump.
Can you tell us When and Where any of these claims took place ?
With the allegations against Platgner we know the date, the time and the place – If Platner is innocent as he claims – he can provide an alibi.
In the Senate hearing Kavanaugh – not ford established that there was only one summer that her claims could possibly have occured, then he went through his dairy for the summer proving there was no record of the “party” ford alleges, that there was never a time in which He, Ford and the other alleged quests were all in the same place.
With Carroll – she can not provide the year, the season, the date, she lied about the dress, purportedly she told friends within a couple of weeks – but how can we tell if we do not know when this occurred ? Nor did she identify Trump until 2020, – even though she has in writing claimed to have been raped by about 80 other men she NAMED in the past. To most people – Carroll is just another crazy – but YOU because she has made vague claims regarding Trump that makes her credible.
Cymru am byth
if the Democrats wanna pack the court, why don’t we do them a favor and pack it now while we are still in the majority?
They can’t. Republicans don’t have enough of a majority to make it happen. They can barely pass basic legislation as it is. Besides it would force Turley to criticize Republicans as massive hypocrites for doing the thing he has been against all this time.
You still don’t know why? Whew!
When did Obama go “beyond debased partisan sniping”?
Who are you quoting, yourself?
Turley
Well when he used the FBI to go after Trump, the incoming president, when he used the IRS to target conservative groups, when he said Trayvon Martins could be his son, when he sold guns to gangs in Mexico, when he apologized for America’s recent history…IN GERMANY, etc etc etc.
