The Media Takes the Fifth and Denounces Those Questioning Fauci as an “Assault on Science”

As I wrote yesterday, Dr. Anthony Fauci was not the only one taking the Fifth yesterday on his record during the pandemic. The media effectively invoked the same privilege to avoid self-incrimination for their years of deifying the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Across the cable networks, hosts and guests were going into vapors as Republican senators pummelled Fauci over his COVID policies and the glaring contradictions found in his diary entries. Some, like Dr. Scott Ratzan, echoed Fauci’s own prior claim that any questioning of his judgment was an attack on science.

Once again, Fauci had every right to invoke his Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination. That does not mean that it was the right thing to do. Fauci already had a pardon that notably extended back to 2014 when his agency approved gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab in China. Any prosecution would be difficult in light of the pardon. It would not be impossible since he could be charged with perjury for any false statements. Yet, that was the same threat that existed during countless prior hearings for Fauci.

So what was the difference now? The answer is found in diary entries and other evidence that contradicts Fauci’s public statements on subjects ranging from the lab theory to school closures. It is not that Fauci would have been tripped into false answers but that he did not have any obvious answers to some of these criticisms.

Instead, Fauci invoked the privilege 111 times. That fell short of Vito Genovese’s record, who invoked the privilege 150 times.

Rather than address the long list of criticisms and contradictions for Fauci, the media rallied around the scientist. Fauci was portrayed as something akin to the St. Sebastian of Science, taking barbs and arrows for his faith. It did not matter that over 1.2 million people died, an economy shut down, and millions of children were prevented from attending school based on these alleged errors. Fauci would remain silent rather than risk being charged with false testimony.

On CNN, Dr. Scott Ratzan repeated Fauci’s much-maligned claim in June 2021 that “attacks on me, quite frankly, are attacks on science.” Yesterday, Ratzan declared: “This is an assault on science and scientists, and unfortunately, Dr. Fauci is in that seat. 38 years of service to the country, one of the best-known scientists for infectious disease, unfortunately, has taken a lot of heat…”

It was a maddening statement, repeated by many, that treated Fauci as inviolate, if not infallible. Fauci was wrong about issues that produced tragic costs for this country. When confronted about policies such as school closures, he insisted he had never recommended them while privately admitting he had.

Fauci owes the public explanations, including millions who lost loved ones. Instead, he refused to take the risk of being accused of perjury.

Fauci is no Sebastian. Notably, Sebastian remained silent in public to conceal his faith, but when discovered by Diocletian, he remained faithful. The price was to be shot through with arrows, but he somehow survived. After being nursed back to health by Irene of Rome, he immediately confronted Diocletian in public and denounced his abuses. For that act he was beaten to death with clubs and tossed into a sewer.

Fauci spoke endlessly in public and remained silent only when asked to address the contradictions in his diaries and the costs of his alleged errors.

What is also frustrating for many is the reappearance of figures who toed the line on prior narratives about masks, the virus’s origin, and other issues. They are now claiming victimization in being asked to account for evidence that they were wrong. As Dr. Scott Atlas has laid out, many of those who abused dissenting scientists faced no repercussions after those scientists were largely vindicated in later research.

During this period, dissenting scientists were barred from social media, removed from positions, and vilified for expressing views, despite now being vindicated on subjects ranging from the lab origin of the virus, the efficacy of masks, the six-foot rulenatural immunity, and school closures.

Many previously echoed Fauci’s view that questioning these conclusions was an attack on science. One leading columnist wrote a piece titled “The COVID lab leak claim isn’t just an attack on science, but a threat to public health.”

When courageous scientists put their careers at risk (and some lost their positions) to voice their opposition to Fauci’s policies, neither he nor these acolytes said a thing in their defense. Fauci did not defend them as fighting for science and the need to challenge orthodoxy. When their views were later embraced, they received no apologies, let alone restoration.

For my part, I am not interested in hearing from scientists who remained silent as their counterparts were vilified, shadow-banned, and fired. Their deep faith in science did not prompt them to defend those with opposing views even though orthodoxy is the very antithesis of scientific thought.

Again, Fauci has every right to remain silent, but that does not make it right.

  1. Mrs Fauci is telling her husband, “no sugar for you”

    Silent footsteps crowding me
Sudden darkness, but I can see

No sugar tonight in my coffee

No sugar to stand beside me
No sugar to run with me”

  2. China is a criminal state that has evaded, and is responsible for, about $200 trillion in damages owed to perhaps 200 countries around the globe for its absolute Covid-19 liability.
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

“A reasonable ballpark estimate of the worldwide damages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is on the order of $200 trillion, when accounting for direct economic losses, healthcare costs, government expenditures, lost productivity, business failures, educational losses, long-term disability, and the economic valuation of millions of premature deaths. Estimates vary widely depending on the methodology used.”

Remember all your recent comments about vandalization of the Reflecting Pool and how dozens of people are going to prison for felony destruction of government property.

In an admission of error, the Trump Justice Department withdrew criminal charges against an Olympic canoeist accused of vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Justice Department prosecutors acknowledged in a court filing today that contrary to the assertions they made that David ‘Davey’ Hearn had damaged the iconic landmark, “damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in June 2026 was the result of flawed installation by the contractor”.

The DOJ further admitted they have new information “showing that the damage was the result of a botched installation and not vandalism as initially represented by the Department of the Interior.”

Bring on the false arrest and prosecution suits !!!
Looks like the government is going to be paying out damages – BIGLY !!!!!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    1. Pirro had WITNESSES ! WITNESSES! that the Olympian used both hands to rip the liner from the bottom of the pool.

She needs to go to prison for such carless use of the Federal government.

  4. Dr. Anthony Fauci is quite literally the Dr. Josef Mengele in the parlance of our time.

    1. Stop spreading lies. COVID was NOT “developed”—it was a natural mutation of an existing virus. That has been proven by scientists. Dr. Fauci saved lives. Falsely accusing Dr. Fauci of wrongdoing is nothing but a distraction from Trump’s failures during his first administration and the war he started, the damage he has caused to our economy, the Epstein files, the slush fund and the IRS immunity Trump thinks he is entitled to.

      1. LAB LEAK the true origins of Covid-19
THE ORIGIN – “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2” publication — which was used repeatedly by public health officials and the media to discredit the lab leak theory — was prompted by Dr. Fauci to push the preferred narrative that COVID-19 originated naturally.

        1. Scientists who studied the virus and its genetics said that there is no evidence that genetics were manipulated. They concluded that the virus mutated into a more virulent form. Testing of the wet market proved that the source of the COVID virus was from animals that were infected. Accurately reporting scientific data is not advocating a “preferred narrative”.

Anyone that experienced the Covid-19 illness first hand will tell you: It wasn’t ‘normal’ in anyway to what you would consider a severe pneumonia infection. They’ll tell you Coronavirus (Sars-CoV-2) wasn’t normal it was man made.
You still have avoided the question: WHY was it being developed? Why was it in a “Lab” (bioengineering lab) to begin with? What was it’s purpose?

      2. Anon– “Stop spreading lies. COVID was NOT “developed”—it was a natural mutation of an existing virus….”

Fascinating that with all of the information that has surfaced to the contrary that anyone still believes that.

It is more in the nature of a cult than a science. There is a good psychological research project here.

    1. No, because Dr. Fauci did nothing wrong. If schools or businesses were shut down, that would have been the result of state and/or local health officials requiring it. Dr. Fauci had no authority to shut down anything, and the recommendations he made were based on the consensus of the scientific community, grounded in the best evidence then available.

  5. I am a scientist, a biochemist. Science is data NOT opinions. I knew immediately that mRNA wasn’t a vaccine, it’s a gene therapy vector. Since Pasteur vaccines against viruses contain whole dead virus

    1. Anonymous is Estovir with another bogus ‘first person’ account. They always start with, “I was.. “I am.. “When I was..

    2. An mRNA vaccine is a type of vaccine that uses a copy of a molecule called messenger RNA to produce an immune response.

      1. This is not able labels. It is about the fact that as much as we all wanted the vaccine to work – it didn’t, and those forcing it on us knew that, and that it was dangerous.

        1. John Say

        2. The vaccine worked. You have not shown any evidence it has not. The virus mutates. The first batch will always work on what it supposed to be the target. When it mutates it become slightly less effective. That’s why it’s important to vaccinate as many people as possible before a new mutation makes the original vaccine ineffective.

Because so many idiots started to refuse the effectiveness lessens.

    3. It does nothing to genes. It is a vector to place an RNA strand into cells where the duplication system copies it. That results in a protein that duplicates the spike protein on the outside of the covid-19 virus shell, providing a target for the immune system to develop an immune response.

    4. Whatever we wish to call it the label is not the issue.

What matters is that it did not work and it was dangerous.

Everyone wanted it to work. But it didn’t.

      1. Your addled brain does not work and it is dangerous because you insist on coming on here and spouting your absolute tosh.

  6. Josef Mengele would have blushed at how sinister Anthony Fauci relished his power re closing schools. He did not hesitate in casting aspersions on those who were against it like Bob Redfield, a board certified physician virologist, unlike Fauci.

    Game on indeed.

    Jan. 26, 2020– GAME ON!!!

There is complete chaos in China now with president Xi Jinping declaring an emergency situation. The Chinese are building within days 1000 and 1300 bed hospitals and flying in hundreds of medical personnel from military. They have shut down travel within most of the country and have called off many Lunar New Year events. schools closed at least until mid-February. Running out of supplies such as PPE

    Feb. 25,2020 –

Big explosion of media. On the usual CDC press briefing, Nancy Messonnier made the comment that a pandemic and community spread in the USA is not a matter of IF, but a matter of WHEN and we should prepare to do things like close schools and do telework.

I spoke with Bill de Blasio (Mayor – NYC) and convinced him based on what I was saying publicly and my conversation tonight to close the NYC schools (he had already decided based on what I was saying on TV). I went on to tell him he should close the bars and restaurants in NYC. He said that he would base this on my recommendation. I had a similar call with Ann O’Leary, the COS of Gov. Gavin Newsom of California. Ann said that based on my TV appearances today and yesterday, the Governor has decided to close the schools in California as well as the bars and restaurants.

Came out with the guidelines that reflected my pushing for a more aggressive mitigation 15 day strategy → If you are elderly, self-isolate; do not congregate in groups >10 people; stay away from bars, restaurants, theaters, sporting events; if a community has community spread CLOSE the bars, restaurants and places of congregation; close schools where there is community spread; no visitors to nursing homes; if family member is sick, others in family should take extra percautions; only necessary travel, telework as much as possible.

Press conference after was highly attended. biggest percentage drop in history.

    April 10, 2020 –

During press briefing reporter asked PTUS a question about Gov. DeSantis (R-FL) wanting to open his schools in May and would not that endanger lives of people since there are many cases in Florida. He did not answer and then the reporter asked what my opionion was. I spoke generically saying I am not aware of the situation in Florida, but in general, if there are active cases in community, children in school could spread the virus. Later that afternoon DeSantis called my cell and explained that he wa evaluating the situation on a week by week basis and did not make any definitive decisions and the districts that he was considering opening the schools were districts with very few infection.

    July 8, 2020 –

TF meeting at the Dept. of Education – I was in Sit Room and not part of the press conference that followed. Purpose of the TF was to push for opening of schools. Good thing that I was not part of the press conference (Deb, VP, Sec. DeVos) since much negative public response. Clearly Trump is pushing to open the schools no matter what. There is concern about the safety of the children and teachers. Yet, Trump together with Redfield (being pressured) is saying that the CDC guidelines should not stand in the way of opening schools (what???). Glad that I am not involved in that discussion.

    July 9, 2020 – Global USA

Bob Redfield defending the fact that Trump forced CDC to change guidelines that Trump felt was too strict to open the schools. Bob is losing a lot of credibility. Trump wants to open the schools at all costs. Clearly he does not care about the safety of the chidren

    1. Josef Mengele was famed for his anti-school stance.

      Sarcasm, Estovir, that was sarcasm.

  7. As far as the true origin of SARS-Cov-19, I’d get more from the diary pages of Xi Jinping.

    1. Uneducated Americans misunderstand the claims made by Pfizer and Moderna (vaccination will reduce your odds by about 10X of severe illness requiring hospitalization). Pea-brains turned it into:
      – vaccination will prevent you becoming infected, THEN when vaccinated people caught Covid..
      – the vaccine doesn’t work

It’s called a strawman argument. You overinflate the claim of what the drug does so you can shoot it down as not delivering.

At the height of the Delta variant, hospital ICUs were reporting that 12:13 Covid patients were unvaccinated, in other words, the claims of Pfizer and Moderna made coming out of Phase 2 clinical trials were accurate.

If it weren’t for social media, we wouldn’t have widespread misunderstandings like we did. Thanks, Zuck. Thanks, Dorsey.

    1. Diary v public statements:

      1. Not from wet market, from wet market

      2. Possibly engineered, zoonotic

      3. Masks not needed, masks should be mandated

      4. IFR of 0.2-0.3%, IFR of 2-3%

      5. Recommended school closures in NYC and Cal, never recommended school closures

      etc

      1. Fauci and Deb Birx did their best not to cringe the day Trump went off into a riff about using bleach in infected lungs. They had to deal with an overconfident, well-meaning, narcissist-ignoramus convinced of his own genius.

        1. The bleach was for injecting, it was cell-killing UV light that Trump wanted to introduce to lungs. Surprising since lungs are famously never subject to exposure to light of any kind.

        2. That is a bogus claim. Birx told Trump about a promising treatment where a persons blood was circulated through a machine 0- much like a dialysis machine where it was bleached to kill the virus.

No one was injecting bleach. The treatment was real. It was safe. It may have even worked. The bleach was not Clorox. Most likely it was just oxygen. Bleaches are oxygenating agents that clean, kill germs and lighten colors.
Oxygen is a bleach. Hydrogen peroxide it a bleach. sunlight is a bleach.

The entire idiocy from the left that Trump was advocating injecting clorox was deliberate distortion by those on the left like YOU.

          1. This claim of a magical machine to circulate blood to bleach it and kill the virus is complete and utter fantasy.
Birx never made any such claim, because no such technology exists, and no such machine is possible.
If this machine exists then why wasn’t it used ????

          2. The statements by Trump were immediately after a presentation about using bleach to sterilize surfaces; there was not talk of full-blood replacement therapy.

          3. Dialysis does NOT “bleach” anything. All it does is remove waste products and excess fluid that the kidneys would have removed if they were working properly. And after noting that bleach kills the virus, Trump did suggest somehow using bleach inside the body—in one of his pathetic efforts to dominate news conferences instead of allowing the doctors to speak and answer questions. He can’t resist attention and those cameras.

      2. For the most part they did not disagree. Where they did – Trump has been proven right and Fauxi wrong.

    2. Dr. Mengele praised his progeny Dr. Fauci for his courage in daring to experiment with human lives and–something even Mengele hadn’t imagined–with the entire U.S. economy. Fauci said shut it down. Schools? Done. Businesses? Done. Closed. Shuttered. Thanksgiving dinner? Nope. But dinner with the Tappers? Oh, yes. As long as there were no cameras.

    3. Self protection and money.

Most of us have known for some time that Fauxi was instrumental in funding the research that likely resulted in Covid that he did so violating US law and that he moved that research to China to hide that. nor is Covid the only instance in which he does that.

But between his diaries emails and other recent documents – at this time only morons can deny that conduct.

We have also suspected but now know that he was illegally using his govenrment position to solicit cash grants prizes and awards for himself.

Given that covid came from a research project he funded illegally and it killed millions of people.

Yes he has reason to lie through his teeth.

  8. “First we overlook evil. Then we permit evil. Then we legalize evil. Then we promote evil. Then we celebrate evil. Then we persecute those who still call it evil.”

    Fr. Dwight Longenecker

    https://catholicinsight.com/2019/12/30/facing-2020/

    St Thomas Aquinas on “evil””

In the action evil is caused by reason of the defect of some principle of action, either of the principal or the instrumental agent; thus the defect in the movement of an animal may happen by reason of the weakness of the motive power, as in the case of children, or by reason only of the ineptitude of the instrument, as in the lame. On the other hand, evil is caused in a thing, but not in the proper effect of the agent, sometimes by the power of the agent, sometimes by reason of a defect, either of the agent or of the matter. It is caused by reason of the power or perfection of the agent when there necessarily follows on the form intended by the agent the privation of another form

Fits Tony Fauci to a T and his adoring demonic cult

    1. Everyone has their Achilles heel. Fauci’s is fame and adoration. Perhaps he’s humbled.

  9. After reading all the unhinged comments and hysterical assumptions and plain kooky, nutty theories I have come to the conclusion the majority are just plain old fashioned idiots who have no idea what they are talking about.

It’s all about a grudge held by Sen. Rand Paul and MAGA nuts looking for something to gripe about.

The hearing was an embarrassing display of political grandstanding and griping and a “punishment” because the ignorant and angry people who felt helpless at the time HAD to blame someone. Because they can’t blame themselves, that would hit too close to home, Because it would force many to admit or acknowledge they were ignorant.

Yesterday so many had no idea how the 5th amendment works or why it could be invoked by Fauci.

Because Fauci COULD invoke it and deny Republicans, especially Sen. Paul, the one thing they want, to punish Fauci for things they barely understood, is driving them mad. Even Professor Turley knows they won’t be able to. He knows Fauci’s reasoning for invoking the 5th is perfectly legal AND wise.

    1. Criticism of the fawning, hero-cult worship of Fauci/Biden re covid is not the same thing as support for Trump/MAGA mob zombies.

*not sure about Fauci’s 5th privilege, why he would invoke it or the scope of his presidential pardon .. . seems to me a matter of great public importance.

      1. Dgsnoweden. I spent the better half of the day explaining to many why Fauci’s invocation of the 5th was not only necessary but legally a requirement for him.

This is nothing but a continuance of a grudge being held by Sen. Paul. Fauci’s pardon only protects him for statements he made in the past. Not for ones he makes now. The hearing he was subpoenaed to was a classic perjury trap meant to force him to say things that could make him perjure himself with. That was NOT protected by the pardon Biden gave him. Even Turley acknowledged this.

Fauci was only an advisor. Nobody was required to take his advice. The only people who could enforce any policy or rule was the Trump administration. We all know how incompetent it is now. But back then it wasn’t completely incompetent due to the fact that not everyone was purge as it was the second time around.

        1. >”…Fauci’s invocation of the 5th was not only necessary but legally a requirement for him.”

Invoking the 5th would only be a ‘necessary and legal requirement for him’ if his testimony was self-incriminating.

Obviously, Sen. Paul believes Fauci’s testimony would be self-incriminating.

*perhaps, we’ll never know .. . but pandemics, natural or lab-made, are a rather important matter of public interest.

          1. It was not about self incrimination. It was about Sen. Paul setting up a perjury trap. He WANTS Dr. Fauci to commit a crime in front of him so he can send him to jail. Fauci is protected by Biden’s pardon for anything he did or said in the past.

The hearing Sen. Paul set up. Was only to entrap Fauci in a lie by asking questions about what was said in his dairy. There is a law that anything he says that is even slightly inaccurate CAN be considered perjury and that is why invoking the 5th was absolutely necessary for Fauci. Sen. Paul and I’m sure many outlets WANT Fauci in jail. So forcing him to the hearing and answer questions he knows will land him a perjury charge absolutely necessitates invoking the 5th. It was a very smart move on his part.

      2. dgsnowden – wouldn’t worship include wearing matching bandages on uninjured ears, or flags with the focus of their worship named, or matching caps? Some outward sign of support?

Fun news – Jeanine Pirro, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, slandered an innocent person, provided false testimony, and chased Trumped up charges.

I think she should serve the maximum penalty that she was trying to apply.

    2. If we all just ignore him, maybe he’ll go away.

Who knows? It may help him find some purpose in life.

    3. The hyperventilating, bloviating and bogus scientific excuses and apologies for Fauci’s behavior are laughable. One need only look at the contradictions between what Fauci said in public, and what he foolishly wrote in his “diary,” to see the inherent falseness inherent in the man. And his hubris and self-adulation, expressed in the diary, are even worse. This was a man so caught up in his own self-importance that what he called “science” was a laughable imitation thereof. And the over-long rehashing of the science that went before Fauci became the laughingstock that he is today provides no excuses for what this vainglorious attention-seeker has become. Read the damn’ diaries!

      1. Excuses or reasons to justify your inability to understand and blame it on someone else? Fauci is being scapegoated for many things. It’s only reasonable to assume those who figured out their own ignorance led them to where they are now, and they don’t like it. So they look for someone else to blame. Thus is the MAGA cult.

        1. As I said: “Read the damn’ diaries!” Or are you so blinded by your allegiance to the Cult of Fauci that you are unable to do so?

          1. The diaries are nothing more than personal observations and random thoughts. Nothing is incriminating or criminal. You’re not supposed to have access, nobody is to his personal diaries.

Sen. Paul released the contents out of pettiness and of course his ongoing grudge with Fauci. He wants to punish him but he knows he can’t do anything unless Fauci incriminates himself. The hearing was clearly a perjury trap and Fauci, because he’s not stupid, knew what it was. He invoked his clearly and absolute right not to incriminate himself like Sen. Paul wanted because that is the only way he could put Fauci in jail. Fauci denied Paul that wish and Paul, naturally, got frustrated and angry.

            1. “You’re not supposed to have access, nobody is to his personal diaries.” As I understand it, the diaries were/are on government servers, and, hence, open to the public. Stupid is as stupid does.

              1. Oh really. Government servers are open to the public?
                How do I access them.
I tried to Google a web address, but I can’t find how to access these government servers

Please post a link with this access.

              2. As I understand it, the diaries were/are on government servers, and, hence, open to the public. Stupid is as stupid does.

                Yup.

One of the drawbacks of being a principal investigator/ research scientist at a state university, investigating possible cures for medical diseases, is that whatever you do in the wet lab, it belongs to the university: their resources, their building, their equipment, their notebooks, it is all theirs. By federal laws you must record everything in a notebook. It stays with them when you leave employment. Your intellectual ideas? The will argue you likely hatched them while employed by them.

This is why smart researchers seek angel investors in the private sector because what they invent belongs to them and their investors, as agreed by legal contracts executed beforehand.

Fauci was too smart for his own good

    4. I am a scientist with decades of experience, and certainly NOT a MAGA nut. Didn’t vote for Trump in either election; I couldn’t stand either or the choice and voted third-party. Make of that what you will. (And I’m sure that you will make a great deal of it, one way or another. ) Yes, Fauci was absolutely entitled to invoke the Fifth Amendment, and perhaps it WAS both “legal AND wise.” I am not an attorney. But it certainly doesn’t “drive[e] [me] mad.” Why should it? But despite Fauci’s pardon, perhaps the Senate will find him in contempt of congress, and land him behind bars after all. Where, IMHO, he belongs. One can only hope.

      1. Is “gain of function” research an innocuous global pastime or top-secret military biological weapons development?

      2. The Senate can’t jail anyone. Only a court could do so. The Senate can refer the matter to the DOJ, but given Rand Paul’s unhinged obsession with trying to nail Dr. Fauci and his stated intention to use the committee hearing to get evidence to get him criminally charged, it is highly unlikely that any court would convict Dr. Fauci of any crime. The hearing was nothing but a perjury trap. All of this is, of course, a distraction from Trump’s scandals and an attempt to relitigate the failures of Trump’s first term in office by scapegoating Dr. Fauci.

  10. Yes, many things were decided wrongly (in retrospect) during the Covid-19 event. I resist the bandwagon to blame people, since that just hardens defensive thinking. When the next pandemic arrives, the blame game will, already having been practiced to a tee during this one, immediately take off poisoning that decisionmaking process.

The reality is that a pandemic is a complex challenge to deal with, and things must be decided with incomplete information. There are trade-offs to be made that cannot possibly please everyone. Our goal should be to create the best decision-making atmospherics, meaning the general population resists fear-mongering manipulation, remains open-minded and engaged, and demands honesty, authenticity and intellectual modesty of EVERYONE speaking publicly. It means turning away from exaggeration, speculative grievances, spinning and related abuses of free speech. It means leaders and followers being able to say “I don’t know” when they don’t know, rather than making stuff up to look smart.

We are very far from that sweet spot. The way social media and mainstream media feed us adrenaline micro-bursts, and ignore that which is stated with modesty, civility and candor — you can already predict overconfident b.s.’ers will jump in and begin drowning out dispassionate voices of common sense creativity. These b.s.’ers will use BLAME directed at individuals –ad hominem attack –as their ticket to social media attention and mainstream coverage.

And that BLAME will make the decisiomakers tense-up and act defensively, rather than remaining calm and inquisitive.

And those hyping the public square with jagged emotions, distrust and paranoia — they will claim “freedom of speech”. Their rabid style of public discourse, shortcutting complex information processing and quiet deliberation of options — that guarantees regretful decisions will be made. The psychological conditions required to make wise decisions navigating the next complex will be just as bad or worse compared to Covid-19.

All because we passively accepted reckless experiments in public media that opened the floodgates to incivility and hair-on-fire militancy. Because of that caustic effect, we can’t even come together to make corrections to those mistakes.

There’s plenty of blame to go around. But the wise will ask “Where did WE go wrong?”, and take responsibility for positive change. This is the mindset of a high-achieving society with a future. The blame game is for losers who convince themselves it’s all someone else’s fault.

    1. Pbinca, Fauci is human. Just like any one of us. He was in charge of a very chaotic and unpredictable situation.

It didn’t help that we had, at the time, an idiot running the administration and a bunch of conspiracy theory nut jobs fanning the flames and spreading ignorance at the same time. Ignorance is very hard to counter when people are absolutely convinced about what they “hear” on Facebook, tik-tok, and social media platforms where more ignorance is taken at face value.

During COVID nearly everyone suddenly knew better than the experts or knew how to read complex scientific papers and understand nuanced issues or complex problems. I wasn’t surprised. The level of reading comprehension and really, just the poor levels of literacy in this country added to the problem.

Mix anti-intellectualism, fear, and outright ignorance and you have an out of control narrative everywhere. Fauci was in the middle of it and unfortunately because he was the face of our response everyone wants to blame him for the results all that ignorance and stupidity brought about. Toss in Sen. Paul’s inability to let go of his grudge and you have this stupidity still going on.

The only thing that is making Sen. Paul angrier is the fact Fauci is still able to outmaneuver him with his absolute right to refuse to answer questions.

    2. “create the best decision-making atmospherics,”

That means free speech without censorship.

” It means turning away from exaggeration, speculative grievances, spinning and related abuses of free speech”

If the phrase is Voluntary turning away, that is OK. If it is forced then that means the one with power already has an agenda and is denying free speech.

      1. It’s the insistence of making sure free speech is protected that added to the problem. Having free speech is not just the freedom to say whatever you want. It’s also about recognizing and admitting responsibility for exercising it responsibly.

Many in right-wing media loved to spread conspiracy theories and lay blame or come up with ‘ideas’ that were literally dangerous. Sometimes swatting down those dangerous ideas is exercising free speech as well. People are too stupid or ignorant in this country to engage in compels issues like how we could have handled COVID as it was happening. Suddenly we had experts all over the place because some so-called scientists had other ideas that needed to be heard.

People were panicky and didn’t know who to trust BECAUSE these so-called scientists were peddling ideas that were not properly vetted. It made things worse and more difficult.

        1. We have tort laws and defamation laws. If you wish to add more, why not just specify what you wish to add? If you can’t, that means you want freedom of speech to be abridged, giving the party in power the ability to curtail it.

          1. Defamation and public frauds lawsuits are excellent legal tools, but due-process needs to be sped up by an order of magnitude for them to become effective. Delay tactics protect the deceitful infowarrior, and that delay levies legal costs that dissuade plaintiffs from suing.

But, in principle, torts not prosecution is the correct way to deal with attempts to dupe the public for political opinion-shaping effect. The 1st Amendment allow for it.

            1. Pbinca, I am on your side regarding due-process. Your desire doesn’t infringe upon an individual’s freedom.

” torts not prosecution is the correct way to deal with attempts to dupe the public for political opinion-shaping effect.”

I agree, and elsewhere I am quite vocal on that subject. Sometimes it spills over here.

          2. Tort laws are useless if you can’t exercise some responsibility on your own. The whole point of being a smart society is to recognize that freedom of speech also comes with accepting responsibility of what you say can have consequences.

Spreading rumors or information without accepting responsibility of what it can do is what makes things worse. It’s very easy to say things and not take responsibility for it. It’s harder acknowledging there needs to be responsibility when spreading information and/or rumors just for the sake of spreading them, like gossip instead of actually thinking seriously about what you’re spreading. Because they do have consequences.

            1. ” The whole point of being a smart society is to recognize that freedom of speech also comes with accepting responsibility of what you say can have consequences.”

Yes, GSX, responsibility is important, but if it is enforced by the government, it leads to authoritarian leadership. It is more important to restrain the government than the individual voice. If more restraint is required for national security, then pass laws that are politically neutral and do not interfere with an individual’s freedom. In an open society, a lack of restraint is managed by the community. You face this as one who is looked down upon, not for his political views, but for a voice that is not restrained and is known to continuously lie. It may be uncomfortable to some on the blog, but overall it is not harmful except to your reputation. Saner voices speak and tell the truth as it is.

“Spreading rumors or information without accepting responsibility of what it can do is what makes things worse.”

We saw that in COVID, where the Biden administration spread false truths, but didn’t allow for correction. Instead, they used censorship. That censorship destroyed our children and our economy as the voices such as Jay Bhattacharya were censored even though they were mostly on target. Today, with the release of Fauci’s diary, we can see Fauci’s lies, and I believe it is just the tip of the iceberg.

                1. So you believe Fauci’s diary doesn’t exist, just like you believed Hunter’s laptop was a lie.

                  You are dumb.

                    1. I don’t hear you saying that you know the Fauci diary exists, as did the Hunter laptop. That is dumb.

      2. I was suggesting that EVERYONE during such a crisis restrain (i.e., self-discipline) what they say and ask publicly. Your position is that those lacking restraint go ahead and mouth-off as they please, and others make a voluntary choice as to whether to listen to them.

These are 2 very different conceptions of free speech. One imposes certain responsibilities on the individual when expressing themself in public. The other doesn’t.

        1. Having lived through 7 decades of media technology, I can say we were much better off in terms of public opinion formation before the rise of Facebook and Twitter. There was free speech aplenty, but moderated by mature adults (print editors, radio & TV show producers). The ignorant, hostile, misanthropic or mentally-ill were not handed the mic. The information making it into the public consciousness was filtered and higher-quality as a result. Words had shared meanings that were respected, the handiwork of gatekeepers.

The decisions we made as a country weren’t perfect. But they were made better and faster than we are seeing now, where any under-educated bs’er with a chip-on-the-shoulder gets unfettered media access. In fact, the most outrageous claims bubble to the top, and fit into a media format valuing sensationalism.

Without gatekeepers, language has become mangled — words can be used for the opposite of what they once meant. Rules of civility evaporate. Persuasion becomes manipulation. Self-righteousness overtakes modesty and goodwill. The word “censorship” is now used indiscriminately. The kind of common-sense filtering by responsible adults of what was fit to publish 30 years ago — today, any well-meaning filtration is branded as “censorship”, but at the time, it was never used that broadly.

If you think our nation in the 2020s is making needed improvements in reasonable timeframes, you likely either forgot about the past America or missed out living it. Politically, we are paralyzed and dysfunctional.

        2. I agree. Everyone should restrain themselves voluntarily. As I mentioned to GSX, we have defamation and tort law. That restrains plenty of speech. Without assigning a political actor, what speech do you think can also be controlled in that fashion? If you can’t assign a certain type of speech to a non-politicized law, then you are in favor of abridging speech by the people in control.

That is how Covid was handled: political censorship. It was a mess, and little good came from it.

          1. S. Meyer, you barely understand what you say. Much less how to say it. You’re a prime example of why Dr. Fauci had to endure what he did during the pandemic. Ignorant idiots who thought they knew better.

            1. X
You give Meyer far too much credit when you say he BARELY understands what he says.
It is quite clear that he has absolutely no understanding whatsoever of any of the incoherent ramblings that he puts forth here.

              1. Dumb. You have nothing original to say and are a hanger-on to one of the least knowledgeable, GSX.

            2. Dr. Fauci knew better, but he decided to forget what he learned in medical school and all the research done afterward. Instead, he preferred political power to knowledge.

GSX, you can say what you want about me, but as soon as you leave the political realm, most of the scientists agree with me and laugh at your naivety.

          2. “we have defamation and tort law. That restrains plenty of speech.”

Not for those protected by qualified immunity or protected by being billionaires. Look at the suit against Trump, how long it took, and how much it cost; it still didn’t get Trump to shut up about it. Similarly Alex Jones acted to get people killed by lying about them and was able to shield the majority of his wealth from being used to pay the winning plaintiffs.

            1. You think your opinions are valid. I have news for you; they aren’t. For the most part, they are untrue and illogical.

  11. Dr. fauci’s newly surfaced diary entries reportedly reveal what barack obama privately thought about donald trump and don jr.—and the comments are absolutely brutal.

According to fauci’s notes from November 2021, Obama reached out to offer support after don jr. was publicly attacking fauci and promoting shirts accusing him of killing puppies.

Fauci wrote that obama described don jr. as a “f*cking idiot” and called donald trump a “hopeless idiot” and a “pathologic liar.”

Obama was also reportedly frustrated that moderate republicans were not speaking out against the attacks and were instead distancing themselves from the ugly campaign against fauci.

The irony is hard to miss. republicans have spent enormous energy digging through fauci’s old diaries, hoping to uncover something damaging. instead, the material is generating another round of headlines about trump’s own behavior and the political attacks fauci faced.

After all that digging, the biggest takeaway may be what obama apparently thought about trump and his son.

  12. My wife and I took the first shot and then promptly caught COVID anyway. We never took any “booster” and regret the first one. As an engineer, I looked at what was being said and questioned it. N95s made no sense since the 3 micron pore size was about 30 times larger than the virus. If the shot gave you immunity, why was it important that others get the shot to protect YOU? If it stopped transmission, why wear a mask after vaccination? What happened to the hundreds of thousands of seasonal flu cases? They were labeled COVID so hospital could collect COVID money and the government agencies and pharmaceutical companies could demand more money. None of it made sense and I, and plent others, said so but were ignored.

      1. edit. .. and was promptly hospitalized with covid.

*Biden/Fauci made me an offer I could not refuse to take the mRNA ‘vaccine’

    1. These are the same straw-man exaggerations of therapeutic claims made after Warp Speed delivered the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Those companies DIDN’T claim you wouldn’t catch Covid! They claimed your odds of serious infection leading to hospitalization would be about 10-15X lessened.

At the peak of the Delta variant, the hospital ICUs were reporting 12:13 patients were unvaccinated. Those numbers match what was claimed by the pharma companies.

As far as masks, you’re right about the pore size. The mask “working” meant that a person actively infected could reduce the spittle cloud spread when speaking by about 90%, protecting the amount of viral load others closeby would be exposed to. The claim that the mask wearing was meant to protect the uninfected from becoming infected — that was a total fabrication on the part of social media stupids (who tend to think in absolutes, ie. no quantitative reasoning).

These RNA vaccines — I’m not convinced they are any better than past vaccines based on killed virus — and they have adverse side-effects at a higher frequency than was permitted under past standards of safety. An obvious question — never answered by the manufacturers — what if the intramuscular injection ends up in the bloodstream by random chance where the needle tip is placed? This should have been tested. As far as I know, it never was.

The point is, there were good intentions driving the response to Covid, but good intentions don’t always pan out.
But to accuse Fauci and others of bad intentions after the fact — that’s overstatement of grievance.

      1. If ‘good intentions’ were driving the response to Covid, Fauci should have nothing to fear or hide. We all make mistakes. .. some more than others.

        >”These are the same straw-man exaggerations of therapeutic claims made after Warp Speed delivered the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Those companies DIDN’T claim you wouldn’t catch Covid!”

        Biden (& Fauci) certainly did.

        1. Biden lied through his teeth. Fauci was careful not to exaggerate claims. But stating the vaccine manufacturer’s claims (lowered probability of serious disease requiring hospitalization) — those words and concepts are for educated people who understand the precision of science and medicine lingo.

That turned out to be no match for bozos spouting their pea-brain misinterpretations, things like:
          – If you wear a mask, you won’t get infected
          – If you take the shots, you won’t get infected

Any evidence countering to these mistaken assertions could then be turned into:
          – masks don’t work
          – the vaccine doesn’t prevent infection

Note the difference between how a scientific-pharma company speaks vs. an internet blogger. The blogger only uses short sentences, simple-minded assertions stating absolutes (is vs. isn’t, works vs. doesn’t work).

This is what social-media brought us. Thanks, Zuck. Thanks, Dorsey. “Helping people connect with each other”.

          1. The alternative for those in the conservative mindset, would be to say that masks almost always work and the vaccine almost always works – which is hear by the conservatives as “Masks and vaccines don’t work.” Which is where they ended up anyway because they didn’t want to wear masks and probably waited until they began to feel ill to get vaccinated.

    2. You likely went to a place where a number of people already had covid and got it from them. The vaccination isn’t a force field and doesn’t instantly spring into action. It’s also not a guarantee that your immune system could adapt to the vaccination; your immune system might be defective and you wouldn’t know if you were infected and asymptomatic. The N95 masks have a slight electrostatic charge applied to attract small viral particles and physically intercept the far larger globs of saliva and mucus that are ejected by coughs and sneezes. That electrostatic field also diminishes with exposure to condensation and why the masks aren’t simply wash-and-reuse.

The stability of a covid viral particle outside a person is measure in seconds to minutes; any delay in the amount or velocity decreases the chances of spread. This is why large groups gathered closely together in relatively still air resulted in superspreader events. It’s also why, given the directionality and speed of airflow, it was seen in some restaurants where viral particles were carried rapidly down wind but without destructive UV sources that large outdoor daytime crowds would expect.

A flake of skin from someone with measles, in contrast, can carry the infection for days to weeks.

  13. My wife, children, grandson, and myself were never convinced by Faucci and the countless others that believed the “clot shot” was the answer and we were never vaccinated. None of us contracted Covid nor significantly changed our lifestyles other than that which was mandated by the government. Under President Gerald Ford, we dutifully followed presidential recommendations and my wife and I received the “swine flu” vaccination, only to later learn of the hazards and that after limited deaths was withdrawn as being advised. I did have a friend whose adult son had eventually after a long struggle passed away from Guillain-Barré syndrome complications. Now that we know with 99.999% certainty the Covid virus was from a Faucci financed facility, annd all of those guilty people remain free, no punishment, not even censured. My mother had contracted Covid on her 98th birthday. She was hospitalized. My sister took her hearing aid batteries to the hospital explaining she absolutely needed them to hear. After a week, someone from the hospital human relations side called to warn us she was not going to be with us much longer, perhaps a day or two at most. They said she was non responsive, not eating, just lying there hopelessly. They finally let us in to see her for our “only once and last visit”. My mother’s eyes opened brightly, we put the batteries in her hearing aids (which the hospital totally neglected to do), and her first words were “Get me out of here”. She was discharged the following day and passed in her sleep near her 103rd birthday. I can never forgive Faucci and his cronies. May the world never forgive them. US WW2 deaths are estimated at 405,000 while US COVID deaths are 3 times higher estimated at 1,200,000 to 1,300,000. How can criminals like Faucci escape with the signature of an auto pen?

    1. “WE KNOW” no such thing that the COVID virus was from a Fauci-financed facility. That is a lie, and it’s truly sad that so many gullible people believe the lies put out by billionaire-owned MAGA media that exists to defend Trump and attack his perceived enemies. See post infra.

      1. If the US NIAID-funded research being done in China was the cause of the pandemic, explain why the Chinese Communist Party didn’t accuse the US and show proof using the lab notebooks that were confiscated?? Huh? Got an answer?

Y’see, most conspiracy theorists don’t “red test” their narrative to see how easily it can be shot down with logic.
They just throw it on the wall to see if it sticks — which depends on the receiver not applying critical thinking either. Zuck and Co. gave these bozos their own media playground to entertain one another.

Because the CCP covered up and disappeared the WIV lab notebooks, a more plausible theory is that the PLA had scientists there working on viral GOF research. That would be a violation of the International Biowarfare Treaty, and cause loss of face. Just a guess based on all the Chinese behavior.

        1. You guessed wrong. Rigorous studies indicate that COVID was a natural mutation of the virus. There was no laboratory manipulation of the virus genetic code. There was no “gain of function” at the Wuhan lab, and “gain of function” was not authorized or financed by any grant approved by Dr. Fauci.

    2. It started under the Trump administration and ended under the Biden administration.

Perhaps take it up with Trump who eliminated the Pandemic Response team and removed oversight from Wu Han long before the outbreak.

  14. Today’s piece is truly shameful–Turley is actually suggesting (without saying, because he KNOWS about slander and libel laws; however, I’m not so sure that Turley’s prose didn’t cross that line), that Dr. Fauci is somehow responsible for those 1.2 million Americans who died of COVID: ” It did not matter that over 1.2 million people died, an economy shut down, and millions of children were prevented from attending school based on these alleged errors. Fauci would remain silent rather than risk being charged with false testimony.” WHAT “ALLEGED ERRORS” ATTRIBUTABLE TO DR. FAUCI CAUSED THE DEATHS OF 1.2 MILLION AMERICANS? Turley can’t say, but he doesn’t need to because this is an affirmation piece written for the MAGAs, and an attack against non-MAGA media. Shamefully, Turley also said: ” Fauci was wrong about issues that produced tragic costs for this country. When confronted about policies such as school closures, he insisted he had never recommended them while privately admitting he had.”

As to Dr. Fauci approving gain of function experiments at the Wuhan Lab in China, here’s what “PolitiFact” says about that:

“The NIH grant to EcoHealth Alliance

In 2014, the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, the part of the NIH headed by Fauci, awarded a $3.4 million grant to the New York-based EcoHealth Alliance, which aims to protect people from viruses that jump from species to species. The alliance has projects across 30 countries, including Thailand, Vietnam and China.

The group hired the virology lab in Wuhan to conduct genetic analyses of bat coronaviruses collected in Yunnan province, about 800 miles southwest of Wuhan. EcoHealth Alliance paid the lab $598,500 over five years. The lab had secured approval from both the U.S. State Department and the NIH.

That the NIAID funded the project is not in question. However, the WorldNetDaily article goes further than that, claiming that the grant covered “gain of function” research on a bat coronavirus, which “created” SARS-CoV-2.

Gain-of-function research is a controversial form of study that involves boosting the infectivity and lethality of a pathogen. Proponents of gain-of-function say it helps researchers spot potential threats to human health and allows them to figure out ways to tackle a new virus. Fauci has advocated for gain-of-function research in the past. In a 2011 article he co-wrote for the Washington Post, he promoted it as a means to study influenza viruses.

However, there’s no hard proof to support the article’s claims about gain-of-function research. The overwhelming consensus among public health experts is that the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 evolved naturally.

All parties involved in the grant to the Wuhan Institute of Virology have denied that it involved gain-of-function research.

“We have not ever participated in gain-of-function research. Nor have we ever been funded to participate in gain-of-function research,” Robert Kessler with the EcoHealth Alliance told PolitiFact last May.

The NIH told us: “The research supported under the grant to EcoHealth Alliance Inc. characterized the function of newly discovered bat spike proteins and naturally occurring pathogens and did not involve the enhancement of the pathogenicity or transmissibility of the viruses studied.”

The grant was approved in May 2014. Five months later, on Oct. 17, the Obama administration announced it would not fund new projects that involved gain-of-function research, citing safety and security risks.

The NIH told us that it reviewed the EcoHealth Alliance project after the funding pause and determined that it did not involve gain-of-function research. As a result, it was not affected by the White House’s new policy.

Hilton and WorldNetDaily do not provide evidence that the grant covered gain-of-function research. When we reached out to Fox News, a spokesperson pointed us to the transcript of Hilton’s segment. Art Moore, the author of the WorldNetDaily article, did not respond to a request for comment.

MIT biologist Kevin Esvelt reviewed a paper that appears to have been published with financial assistance from the grant. According to Esvelt, certain techniques that the researchers used seemed to meet the definition of gain-of-function research. But he told PolitiFact that “the work reported in this specific paper definitely did NOT lead to the creation of SARS-CoV-2” because the genetic sequences of the virus studied in the paper differ from that of the new coronavirus.

No evidence that the coronavirus was manmade
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and the NIH have all said that the virus was not derived from a lab.

If the virus had been altered in a lab, its genomic data would show signs of tampering. Although scientists from around the world have publicly shared the virus’ genetic makeup thousands of times, there’s still no evidence that the virus was bioengineered.

On Feb. 19, 2020, public health experts signed a public statement to “strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin.”

“Scientists from multiple countries have published and analysed genomes” of SARS-CoV-2 “and they overwhelmingly conclude that this coronavirus originated in wildlife,” the statement reads, citing nine scientific studies.

A detailed computational analysis of the coronavirus conducted by five researchers in March found that its genetic makeup showed no signs of alteration. The ability of the virus to bind to human cells is most likely the result of natural selection in an animal host or in humans after the virus jumped from animals.

“Our analyses clearly show that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus,” the researchers wrote.

There are unresolved concerns that a protective lapse at the lab could have allowed a natural virus to escape, but there is no hard proof of such a lapse.

    Our ruling
WorldNetDaily wrote that “New evidence ties COVID-19 creation to research funded by Fauci.”

Both the NIH and EcoHealth Alliance have denied that a grant to the Wuhan lab funded gain-of-function research, though a scientist told us that one paper published with assistance from the grant seems to describe techniques similar to gain-of-function.

The CDC, the WHO, and the NIH have all said that the virus that causes COVID-19 evolved naturally. There is no evidence to support that claim that it was created by researchers.

    This claim is False.

WorldNetDaily, New evidence ties COVID-19 creation to research funded by Fauci, Feb. 1, 2021

That Turley would repeat this MAGA lie and even suggest that Dr. Fauci is somehow responsible for killing over 1.2 million Americans is shameful. That Turley would fail to address the real reason for Dr. Fauci being called before the Republican-led Senate committee is similarly shameful—it’s all about Trump and his ego–a diversion away from the bad economic news, part of the retribution campaign and Trump’s effort to relitigate the failures of leadership in his first term in office.

As to school closures, Dr. Fauci does not have the authority to do this. Each state and county has their own health officer who is responsible for making such decisions. As to whether it was a good idea to judge decisions made then based on hindsight is outrageously unfair. Apparently children do not get as sick as adults when they get infected with COVID, but they can spread it to adults working in schools, like teachers, teacher aids, maintenance staff, resource officers, cafeteria workers and bus drivers. We know more now than we did then. But that wasn’t the point–it’s Trump trying to shift attention away from his failed war, the bad economy and higher prices for groceries and fuel and Republicans trying to help him do these things.

    1. Ironically, you are the one engaged in shifting attention. The obvious fact is that but for gain-of-function research at a notoriously unsecured Chinese virology laboratory the pandemic would not have occurred. Trump had nothing to do with that. Fauci, who obstinately valued gain-of-function research and the Chinese government, who allowed for such an unconcerned research facility, are the only persons of interest.

      1. Fauci worked his magic under both Trump and Biden. .. iirc, NIH funding for the Wuhan virology lab began in 2014

*otoh, unlike Biden, Trump never said taking the mRNA ‘vaccine’ would prevent infection and spread of the covid virus.

        1. You are absolutely correct. The funding provided for by Fauci did indeed begin in 2014. It is why Fauci’s pardon begins on January 1, 2014.

          1. “The funding provided for by Fauci did indeed begin in 2014.”

Actually, that funding began in *2013*, which obviously is *not* covered by the pardon.

      2. There is NO SUCH “OBVIOUS FACT”that COVID came from a “gain of function” research project OR that Dr. Fouci approved or financed it. That is a MAGA LIE, disproven by scientific studies. WHY do you prefer to believe lies over dozens of reputable scientists and studies on the genetics of the COVID virus, that shows no signs of having been tampered with in a laborator–it’s because you fall for MAGA and the lies it puts out. The sad fact is that we will have another pandemic. If it happens when Trump is occupying the White House, he will screw it up like he did last time, and, like last time, people will die unnecessarily because of his stupidity and lack of leadership.

        1. Your bias is so severe it blinds you to the fact no sane and rational person can deny that the pandemic arose from genetic engineering that could have been expected to escape from an inadequately secured Chinese lab. Obviously, TSD is a terminal illness for you. Rest easy. It is for certain that with Fauci’s dishonesty no longer in charge of anything to do with the health of the nation there will not be another pandemic for which he will bear responsibility.

          1. Yet, under Trump, we are seeing a second disease outbreak, this time of measles. Same guy as President, another disaster brewing.

            1. Probably because BIDEN let millions of unvaxxed illegals invade America. Blaming Trump for what BIDEN did is laughable.

            2. You moron. When the last prez was in charge. Millions of people came across out border, from areas with little to NO health care.
              You can expect out-breaks.

          2. I believe the scientists and the conclusions they drew from scientific testing, as well as the word of those involved in the grants. You believe MAGA media that exists to cover up Trump’s failures and to attack anyone who crosses him and/or the latest scapegoat for Trump’s incompetence.

    2. Most of Turley’s followers are Russian propagandists, while another chunk are day drinkers dreaming of when owning slaves was OK.

You will find their responses are intended to be disruptive of American politics or are simply unhinged ravings of drunken lunatics.

        1. Don’t need to–I believe the conclusions of the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee that concluded that Trump did communicate with and accept help from Russian hackers. This has been pointed out over and over again, but the MAGA lies continue.

  15. One of the worst things about this is that Fauci knew, years in advance, that the Wuhan lab had routine failures in containment. They, many times, consulted with Dr. Fauci as their protocols failed. Whatever advice he gave them obviously did no good.

Consequently, 7.1 million people died becuase Fauci decided to play God.

    1. That is absolutely not true. There is no evidence that the SARS-COVID 19 virus came from the lab, and subsequent genetic testing indicates that the source was natural.

      1. Are you on drugs? “No evidence” that the virus came from the lab???? You mean no evidence other than Fauci’s admission in his diaries that it came from the lab? Other than the consensus of the scientists with whom Fauci was consulting? Other than the fact that the lab was working on the exact research that led to the features of the virus causing it to be transmissible to humans? Other than the fact that, even as of today, no one has identified the animal from which the virus “jumped” to humans? Other than the fact that the odds of the mutations that led to this becoming transmissible to humans were vanishingly small? None of that matters to you, right?

        1. Quote the original entry where Dr. Fauci says that with those exact words – give the date and time when he recorded it.

You realize that the entire lab was not under US funding nor US control; it was as funded by US corporations spending money in China as it was by the US government.

Trump let it into the USA. Trump is the most responsible for the deaths in the USA from covid.

        2. The first zoonotic virus widely recognized to have jumped from animals to humans is HIV, which was transmitted to humans in the early part of the 20th century from non-human primates. Other notable early zoonotic viruses include those causing diseases like rabies and influenza.

        3. The wet market was cultured and investigators found that in the stalls where certain animals, like a raccoon and civit cat (whatever that is) had been kept, there was COVID-19. Researchers studied the genetics of COVID 19 and found no evidence of tampering, which, if it had been genetically engineered, would be present. Scientists from multiple countries studied it and have concluded that a natural mutation is the likeliest source. WHY do you insist on repeating MAGA media lies? Trump is trying to shift blame for his failures of leadership and the fact that Fauci couldn’t be bullied into submission by agreeing with Trump’s asinine theories. Trump is using his “presidency” to re-litigate the failures of his first term, including going after his perceived enemies and trying to get evidence to prove the Big Lie. Those are his priorities instead of bringing down the cost of groceries, utilities and fuel, like he promised over and over again, and which gullible people believed. He also needs a diversion away from the disasterous war he started with Iran that the US is losing.

      2. Imo, there is absolutely a mountain of extenuating and scientific evidence to suggest the SARS/COV 19 novel coronavirus originated in the lab.

*also, no animal has yet been discovered that would confirm natural transmission .. . in prior SARS and MERS outbreaks, the host animal was identified within weeks or months.

        1. Look at my lengthy post above–according to scientific studies, there is NO evidence that COVID came from a lab, and all evidence points to a natural mutation of an existing virus.

        2. Most scientists believe that COVID-19 likely originated from a zoonotic spillover, with evidence suggesting it transferred from bats to humans, either directly or through an intermediate host.

WRONG, AS USUAL. Can’t any of you provide a worthy defense?

      3. If it’s (natural) as you claim. How come it hasn’t come back again, Like most colds.

        1. We are no longer in the epidemic phase of COVID–we are in the endemic phase, meaning that there are still people who get COVID, but no extreme spikes in the number of cases like when there is an epidemic. Also, millions have been vaccinated, so if they get COVID, it won’t usually require hospitalization. This is exactly what scientists like Dr. Fauci predicted.
