“For Posterity’s Sake”: Why the Biden-Hur Tapes is a Virtual Racketeering Indictment

“For posterity’s sake.” Those words from President Joe Biden sum up the crushing impact of the leaked audiotapes from the interview between then-President Joe Biden and Special Counsel Robert Hur. Not only did they remove any serious doubt over Biden committing the federal crimes charged against President Donald Trump, but they also constituted what is akin to a political racketeering indictment against much of the Washington establishment. To Be or Not To Be a Hypocrite? Outrage over Trump Targeting Law Firms is Turning Shakespearean

Below is my column in The Hill on the recent opinion blocking President Donald Trump’s executive order sanctioning the law firm of Perkins Coie for its role, on behalf of the Clinton campaign, in the Russian collusion scandal. The opposition to the order has taken on a certain Shakespearean flare that conceals the underlying hypocrisy of many of these lawyers.

The First 100 Days: The Method Behind the Madness in Court Challenges

I have been critical of some of these orders as either premature or unconstitutional. There is a reason for the hyperkinetic pace of the Administration. However, it needs greater focus and discipline in picking cases.

Crimson Chide: Harvard Makes the Case Against Itself

Below is my column in The Hill on Harvard faculty organizing in opposition to the Trump Administration’s measures targeting the university for failure to protect Jewish students and its lack of diversity of viewpoints on campus. Despite being a vocal critic of Harvard’s culture of orthodoxy, I have encouraged the Administration to moderate some of these measures and oppose the denial of tax-exempt status of the university. However, the Harvard faculty members may want to sit this one out. They are not helping their cause.

“No One is Above the Law”: New York AG Letitia James Accused of Alleged Mortgage Fraud

Below is my column in the New York Post on the criminal referral of a mortgage fraud case against New York Attorney General Letitia James. After her scorched-earth campaign against Trump, the irony of the allegations is stunning. If James were to move from prosecutor to perp, her own words may come back to haunt her. There could be statute of limitations issues, though James herself showed such such statutory periods can be stretched. James has issued a statement of defiance and suggests that this is lawfare or bullying by the Trump Administration.

Millions of Americans lost loved ones and would like to know who was responsible. It appears that our government and many experts were less motivated to find that answer.

The American Jacobin: How Some on the Left have Found Release in an Age of Rage

Below is my column in the Hill on the rising political violence on the left. Many have found an irresistible release from both reason and responsibility in rage. A new study found more people embracing political violence. Joel Finkelstein, the lead author of the report,  stated that “what was formerly taboo culturally has become acceptable… We are seeing a clear shift – glorification, increased attempts and changing norms – all converging into what we define as ‘assassination culture.’” Roughly 40 percent reportedly found it somewhat justifiable to burn a Tesla or even to kill Donald Trump.

Celebrate Saint Patrick by Chasing Censors Out of Ireland

Below is my column in the Hill on truly celebrating St. Patrick on this holiday. Despite our shared history and values, the United States and Ireland are moving further apart on free speech. Ireland has followed the European Union in embracing speech regulation and censorship. If we truly want to honor the legacy of St. Patrick, we can start by honoring free speech.
