Faith-Based Fatality: Another Child Dies From Lack of Medical Care Due to Parent’s Religious Beliefs

One wonders what it takes for Oregon’s Followers of Christ Church to decide that perhaps it is time to modify their religious guidelines. After the death of Ava Worthington which is now a criminal matter here, now his cousin has died from lack of medical intervention. The sixteen-year-old boy, was the latest victim of the church, which appears willing to run out of children before they run out of faith.

It appears that the group again used the power of prayer to heal him as they did with 15-month-old Ava. Beagley had inflammation in a tube leading from his bladder – the urethra – that made him unable to urinate.. The result was that he filled up with urine — eventually destroying his bladder and kidneys and causing heart failure.

Oregon recently lifted protections for such faith-healing, so this could easily become a criminal case.

Why doesn’t god ever answer the prayer by saying, “seek professional help immediately”? God could say this just as easily as he could tell people to keep praying. He could even tell people to keep praying and seek professional help immediately. It is striking that god seems so limited in what he tells people to do. This death and any child’s death is horrible.
