Wisconsin Man Arrested After Leaving Cellphone at Bar Containing Child Pornography

aaron_kleinAaron R. Klein, 24, of Brookfield, Wisconsin may spend a number of years in prison for what began as an unpaid bar bill. Klein was unable to pay his bar tab and agreed to leave his cellphone as security at the bar. When the bartender opened the phone to find Klein’s telephone number, he discovered child pornography.

The bartender called police and Klein was arrested when he came back to the bar to pay his bill and collect his phone. What is interesting is that the private search falls outside of the fourth amendment, allowing the bartender to review the internal contents of the cellphone and then reveal that information to the police.

180px-Prison_cell250px-cocktail1Klein now faces 7 counts of possessing child pornography; each count carries a maximum sentence of 25 years, a fine of up to $100,000, or both.

A Tennessee man was arrested in a similar case of cell phone porn this week, here.

Putting aside the grotesque need to have child porn on a phone, I remain mystified generally about the use of cellphone to hold explicit pictures, as in this case.

I hope some thought was put into seeing if the phone records show if he obtained the pics from others (like if they were sent to him or from a website), or if he took them himself.

If someone else is involved, I hope they try and track the people or person down so they can be stopped.

If evidence shows that he took the pics himself, wouldn’t that be an additional crime on his part? Molestation? Sexual exploitation of a minor? I don’t know what charges, but it seems like there would be plenty new ones if this is the case. And if this is the case, find the children and have them screened by a therapist and medical doctor to see what happened and get those children help.

Shelli brings out a good point,

“If someone else is involved, I hope they try and track the people or person down so they can be stopped.” — Shelli

Could that someone else be the bartender?

CCD, are serious? Why would the bartender be involved? You have to be a troll…because that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

    kryzzz:

The issue needs to be investigated. If the bartender could locate the photos on the phone he could have the ability to place them there. As for motive, who knows, Klein owed money, excitement maybe the bartender likes to participate in this drama.

I could be a troll but lets see where the facts take the investigation.

When Larry was chewing on Mespo and I thought it was Appleton, now that was dumber. :)

Hang around Kryzzz, the saloonatics JT attracts can stretch your awareness.

“What is interesting is that the private search falls outside of the fourth amendment, allowing the bartender to review the internal contents of the cellphone…”

The obvious question being: why again?

I guess the bar contained child pornography once the cellphone got there, but still, that headline is up there with “Headless Body”.
