Off Target: Store Under Attack of Illegal Alien Costume

49901784Target is under attack for one of its new Halloween costumes: the illegal alien. The space alien is dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit with “illegal alien” blazoned across its front and holds a large card reading “green card.”

It is beyond me how a major company could approve such an insulting costume, but Target appears to be pulling the product after various complaints. While I support enforcement of the immigration laws, one also has to accept that many kids out this Halloween are from illegal immigration families. It seems pretty callous and gratuitous to make fun of that status with prison garb for those children.

I suggest using the same jumpsuit and just putting “Target Executive” across the front. It is far scarier.

These costumes are particularly striking when illuminated by Target’s flashlights that threaten to catch the child on fire, here.

    Res ipsa loquitur …

I disagree with ‘fesser T’s assessment regarding this costume.

I would not purchase one nor would I wear one; however, others should have a right to do as they choose in this case.

    This is even funnier.

But … but … A green card means the alien is not illegal.

    Not only insulting, but wrong.

Therefore, must we scrap immigration law because those statutes are insulting to illegal criminals? (Perhaps at least an ancillary reason why Prof T. posted this article)

I agree with FFLEO; I took this more as a slap at the US government’s immigration policies than any slur to ethnic groups. It’s like the alien is saying after conviction “Look – I have a green card”, which wouldn’t even be possible if one were from another galaxy, presumably. Even funnier is the notion that such a prestigious visitor would be put in jail for violating laws it couldn’t possibly have known about…. rather than welcomed and given Earth hospitality.

    Pardon Me?

That is as good as it gets for Leon, except for Caught on a High Wire or should I have said “Tight Rope?”

apparently there is no limit to the depths of poor taste that corporations will sink to in order to make a buck.
we used to live in a neighborhood where poor kids were brought in in vans. my neighbors used to complain, but at least these kids were safe running up and down our street and getting decent candy. they had a night of fun where in their costumes they were just like other kids.

Would we be looking at this with the same distaste if it had appeared in a SNL skit parodying the immigration system prior to showing up on shelves. Looks like a costume straight from SNL, even with the inaccurate green card.

Secondly, if the immigrants are offended by this costume, wouldn’t the Wiccans be offended with the Halloween traditional depictions of witches?? I guess there’s an argument for everything.

    Cletus
When my daughter was in the first grade we lived in a small town in alabama. on halloween “dress up day” they were not allowed to dress as witches. somehow i doubt they were trying not to offend wiccans

Understood Pete, I have lived in areas where they do the same and I know it’s not for fear of offending a Wiccan.:) I just think it funny how we have to tip toe around so many different subjects, for a fear of hurting someone’s feelings. Can’t make everyone happy I guess.

l don’t understand. We as a people can easily and quickly get Target to pull this harmless and lighthearted childrens costume which pokes fun at lllegals, but our government is ARRESTING and DEPORTING these families for REAL, AND THATS ALL FINE AND DANDY.

So, the illegal aliens are offended by the costume? GOOD! Then go back to your own Country and you wouldn’t have to look at them! If someone comes to my home wearing the costume, I will double the treat!

I for one, am sick and tired of these illegal aliens snubbing their nose at our immigration laws and the many other laws of this Country. If our Federal Government can not ENFORCE our immigration laws, and get these illegal aliens out of this Country, then let the States do it! One way or another, an end has to come to this illegal immigration, and not with AMNESTY! Amnesty will only encourage more illegal aliens to invade our Country and reward those who broke our laws and raped the American taxpayer in many ways…depressing our wages, taking our jobs, overwhelming our schools with their ILLEGAL ALIEN children, driving without a license or car insurance, all the crime from stolen identities to rape, drugs and everything else.

It’s time for ZERO TOLERENCE with these illegal aliens. It’s time for them get out of this Country and back in their own Country where they belong. When we get rid of the illegal aliens, we will get rid of all the problems that go with them. THAT IS A FACT!
