“All I Asked You Was To Watch The Cub . . . “

This video is going viral of a mother bear saving her cub from a net. This is solely offered as a cute distraction from our more troubling posts today.

What you do not see is the father bear who is watching the cub still in the cave watching the Chicago Bears play the New York Giants.

Here is a video of two otters. They are my favorite animals.

    Sigh.

    Cute videos.

But I feel compelled to add to the “troubling news” especially as this is really bad news.

SciAm is reporting that Phytoplankton Population Drops 40 Percent Since 1950.

You don’t get much more to the base of the food web than phytoplankton. Very little scares me. This scares the Hell out of me.

    I know, I know . . . Buddha Is Being A Downer.

    Sorry.

I’ll bet that when you see cute little kittens you start thinking about the possibility of a nuclear holocaust, huh.

    Yep.

My pessimism and optimism are always at odds, Yissil.

    Buddha,

Having trouble with your yin and yang, are you?

    Buddha,

Welcome over here, you are not being stalked. Its just a net….lol

    Elaine,

The Tao is but the path – the nature of things. The path to harmony is often littered with turbulence. It teaches the value of contrast as well as the battle of optimism and pessimism does.

    AY,

Good. I hate it when someone drags me around with a truck and my mother is getting too old to chew through nets. Much like these cubs, my dad would be of little use either as he’s also back at the cave. His viewing habits lean more to old cinema and documentaries though.

    Bear hunt should be stopped

    Leave them alone
I am not an animal rights activist. I eat meat. I support deer hunting and fishing, but I am opposed to the planned bear hunt.

    eniobob,

I have to agree. With one exception.

If the bear hunters want to prove what a bunch of badasses with big wee-wees they are? I say let them get to it but make them hunt the way neolithic tribesmen did it: with a spear. Shooting a bear from 100 yards away with a bullet that could pierce armor isn’t hunting. It’s an execution. But if you just want to kill one to prove your “manhood”? A gun doesn’t impress me a bit.

    Otherwise?

Bears are an animal that should be respected, a bit feared, and mostly left alone. Unless you’re acting stupid, they generally don’t care about humans. There is a reason they are traditionally considered sacred creatures among many American Indian peoples. They are truly a creature that the word “awesome” can be applied to in its original application before the Valley Girls got a hold on the term.
