Craig’s Attorneys Challenge Senate Investigation

Sen. Craig’s attorneys have challenged the basis for a Senate investigation into his conduct, arguing that such minor crimes are historically not the subject to such congressional action. This is largely true. While the Senate clearly has the right to investigate any misconduct, it would be a departure to punish Craig for such a minor infraction. It would also be in stark contradiction to the handling of past allegations such as the recent Vitter allegations. Craig’s second thoughts about resigning may be designed to deter such actions. 1. Some pharmaceutical companies have acquired billions of dollars by cheating innocent people as well as the government. Those who are caught in the crime are subjected to harsh punishment along with a hefty fine. The laws whichpertain to crimes like frauds are also quite severe. An individual may be subjected to imprisonment for many years along with a million dollar fine and for the firm in question the fine can be exceeded to six figures in dollars with many years of jail to some in the top management.
