Sudan Arrests Teacher for Naming Class Teddy Bear “Mohammed” – Faces 40 Lashes

Officials have arrested a teacher in Sudan who allowed her class to name a Teddy bear “Mohammed.”  Gillian Gibbons is accused of offending Islam.  

Gillian Gibbons, 54, from Liverpool, may now face 40 lashes and her friends say that they fear that Islamic hardliners will attack her and her school. Gibbons was following a common practice at the Unity school and other schools around the world. She let her pupils choose their favorite name for the toy as part of a school project, which allows the kids to take the bear home. Twenty out of the 23 children chose Muhammad.
