New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has confirmed that he has been snared in a criminal investigation of a high-priced prostitution ring in Washington, D.C. Spitzer appears to have been “Client No. 9” in an investigation of the Emperors Club VIP, which hires out prostitutes for as much as $5,500 an hour. The question remains whether he will be indicted, which is more of a likelihood in high-profile cases. To make matters worse for Spitzer, he appears to have been caught on a wiretap.
The Times reported that a person with knowledge of the governor’s role believes the governor is identified as a client in court papers. Four people allegedly connected to a high-end prostitution ring called Emperors Club VIP were arrested last week.
The Web site of the Emperors Club VIP displays photographs of scantily clad women with their faces hidden, along with hourly rates depending on whether the prostitutes were rated with one diamond, the lowest ranking, or seven diamonds, the highest. The most highly ranked prostitutes cost $5,500 an hour, prosecutors said.
The New York Times reports:
The affidavit says that Client 9 met with the woman in hotel room 871 but does not identify the hotel. Mr. Spitzer stayed at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington on Feb. 13, according to a source who was told of his travel arrangements. Room 871 at the Mayflower Hotel that evening was registered under the another name.
In his brief statement today with his wife by his side, Spitzer was careful to avoid any incriminating statements beyond an apology:
“Good afternoon.
“For the past nine years, eight years as attorney general, and one as governor, I have tried to uphold a vision of progressive politics that would rebuild New York and create opportunity for all. We sought to bring real change to New York and that will continue.
“Today I want to briefly address a private matter. I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family and violates my, or any, sense of right and wrong. I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public, whom I promised better.
“I do not believe that politics in the long run is about individuals. It is about ideas, the public good, and doing what is best for the state of New York. But I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself. I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family.
“I will not be taking questions. Thank you very much. I will report back to you in short order. Thank you very much.”
Of course, it is hardly a private matter when you are on a police wiretap and may be indicted.
Such scandals come with a certain seasonal regularity with notables like Dick Morris and others getting caught in the process. The most recent, discussed here and here, snared ranking state.
Louisiana Sen. Vitter was recently disclosed as a client of a local high-priced call girl service.
Put yet another way, just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean someone is NOT out to get you,… 😉
Well re-reading my post, I don’t want to fall into the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy either, so I can’t honestly represent a causal chain as implied above, but still Spitzer had a target on his back for some time now.

I’m trying to be brief Mespo since I don’t really want to monopolize the forum. You’re obviously informed of things judging by your language. So I’d simply refer you to look who Spitzer has prosecuted in the past and how they tie to who he’s looking at now. I think it’s safe to assume, they’re pretty mad at him.
I appreciate the plausibility of your theory, but with nothing more than supposition and surmise, it is interesting but not terribly revealing on what is going on.
I’ll ask you. Would the Fed and Bush have any motive to wiretap Spitzer, if they knew he would be in D.C. about to testify before congress regarding the sub prime crisis, if they thought he would be trying to implicate them for wrongdoing? If your answer is no. O.K.
If your answer is yes, maybe we can all learn something about what’s really going on in our country, and get these people out of positions of power.
My post is simply responding to the myriad of posts above mine who seem to not understand the issue. It’s not about Prostitution, it’s about a known relentless ex-prosecutor of corporate scandals chasing Bush and the Fed for interdicting State help to consumers suckered by sub prime loans. That’s my take on it any way. Again read Spitzers writings on the sub prime crisis.

When one man, gets between another man and his power, one of them is going to lose. In this case it’s Spitzer. He was scheduled to appear before congress the day after he was “caught in a wiretap”. When you mess with the Federal Reserve, you are messing with the most powerful men in the world.
He had written a few articles about the sub prime crisis in America, and is renown for his ruthless investigations into corporate crimes as a states attorney. Just do a little reading about what he wrote about the sub prime crisis and you’ll see it’s no “coincidence”.
Doesn’t make him any less of a moron for being caught in a prostitution ring. I’m sure with the exposure of client #9, client #’s 1-8 won’t be causing trouble any time soon.

Spitzer was about to expose the Fed and Bush for their inflation of the Housing Bubble and it’s deliberate intervention in the States trying to step in to relieve the situation.
U.S. monetary policy inflates and deflates currency and will strip us all of every dollar until it’s worth 0 and we’re eating from soup lines. Make no mistake, Bush is making great use of his Executive orders to protect himself…I mean the constitution from all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC.

I would venture to say this was quite possibly made to look like a personal gesture from the 81st [8+1=9]USAG, or the SCOTUS, and or somehow related to “The Nine” fired US Attorneys – snd/or even
related to Baseball and Steroids.
I’m not a reporter although I would invite and assist in every possible investigation into all likely benefits associated in the chain of connection, more likely than not, it has everything to do with New York’s Giuliani, and a few other’s close to him, going back more a few years there, across state and Party lines, still – unless I miss my guess.
I am open to discussion and controversy on the matter, as am I am sure others are as well
