Toys for Cops: D.C. Police Officers Allegedly Caught on Tape Stealing From Toys for Tots

thumb_policeman_cartoonthumb_birthday_birthday-presentFour District of Columbia police officers have been put on desk duty after they were reportedly caught on a video tape, shown below, stealing from Toys for Tots. This appears to be a trend this month with police accused of stealing laptops and XBox from cars along the roads.

On Christmas Day, the department’s community outreach director, Yvonne Smith, responded to the story with an email to residents of the Southeast neighborhood not to dwell on the story and to instead emphasize the positive. She stressed that the little problem with the police stealing toys from children “starts off Christmas on a sour note, puts distance between the community and the police, and worst of all, tarnishes the image of the Department during a time when we are trying to build strong relationships to foster trust that ultimately helps us solve crimes.” Perhaps residents should talk about all the toys that the police did not steal.

In the meantime, Marine Jason Carper a coordinator for Toys for Tots has been arrested for stealing funds from the charity.story1

  1. “Go Israel”? What is this a football game?

And what do you mean you are “with them”?

You’re not with them. You’re sitting at home typing on a computer. How are you “with them”? Right now you’re nothing more than a cheerleader.

In fact with lines like “Go Israel” you really are a cheerleader.

Just like Bush was in college.

    Ra Ra Ra.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Israel widened its deadliest-ever air offensive against Gaza’s Hamas rulers, targeting a house next to the Hamas premier’s home early Monday after pounding smuggling tunnels and a central prison, sending more tanks and artillery toward the Gaza border and calling up thousands of reserve soldiers for a possible ground invasion.

GO ISRAEL! BLOW THE CRAP OUT OF HAMAS! BLOW THEM TO HELL! HAMAS CAN SHOVE IT UP THEIR YOU KNOW WHAT! GO ISRAEL ALMOST ALL OF AMERICA IS WITH YOU EXCPET FOR THE MSNBC WACKOS!

  3. Jennifer—This blog does in fact chronicle the actions of attorneys that result in harm to their client(s)—see, e.g., stories on our country’s marvelous Attorney General Gonzalez and staff.

I find it interesting that there is no apology for the police officers’ conduct. The woman is too busy trying to brag about the good the department does. It seems a profuse apology is needed despite the other good works. It is gross that these officers stole the toys, but, unfortunately, not surprising given the tendency of people in authority to abuse their positions.

“Mr. Waynebro. It appears SOMEBODY sure has a gripe with the police. I guess you have some history with them to have all that anger.

I guess you haven’t been ripped by an attorney lately like almost 90% of Americans have.”

Mrs. Jennifer. It appears SOMEBODY sure has a gripe with other bloggers acknowledging the rampant abuses and corruption we read about day in, day out, in this very blog.

Perhaps you haven’t noticed, but there are more articles in this blog besides the one you’re currently fabricating “anger” for me in. In fact there are lots of articles. Thousands I’d say to venture. And about a quarter of those are about corrupt police officers. Police Taser pregnant mother, Police beat 70 year old man. Police shoot unarmed teen. The stories go on and on and on and on and on.

    And on.

Everything people comment on in here is not always based on personal experience but instead on a more novel approach.

Like the topic of the thread.

  5. Mr. Waynebro. It appears SOMEBODY sure has a gripe with the police. I guess you have some history with them to have all that anger.

Yeah, sure, Jennifer. I can’t speak for waynebro, but my history with the police consists of this: Reading Overkill: The Rise of Paramilitary Police Raids in America. If reading it doesn’t make you angry, well… as Stanislav Szukalski said, “When a nation is no longer capable of anger, they are ready for enslavement”.

Here’s an idea, Jennifer: Maybe you can start your own blog about crooked lawyers. Or better yet, you can start a blog making apologies for crooked cops… that seems to be your forte.

  6. “I guess you haven’t been ripped by an attorney lately like almost 90% of Americans have.”

By your logic, 90% of Americans have needed attorneys, therefore 90% have had run-ins with the police?

What’s unfortunate is that the officers caught stealing, essentially from children, have simply been reassigned to desk duty. If they did what they were accused of then they should be fired. They are a disgrace to the department. They should be held to a higher standard, not a lower one.

  8. Enough with the “few rotten apples” baloney. This was FOUR police officers who happened to be caught on camera. And two of them worked for the “Youth Services Division”!

The ridiculous notion that these four men comprise the “bad apples” is preposterous. That these four men happened to be caught on camera is a tribute to their stupidity. The questions we need to be asking however is what’s NOT being caught on camera.

    Few bad apples my ass.

  9. Many think it is a far worse crime for lawyers to misappropriate clients money and it obviously appears to be far more prevalent.

How come we never see these attorney crimes posted here? If you need some just google “attorney convicted” or “lawyer convicted” and you will have pages of them.

There are good & bad in all occupations but for some reason some bloggers think they need to put any & every article about an accusation against police on their website.
