Macon City Councilman and Internet blogger Erick Erickson has been listed as one of the 100 most influential conservatives in America (69 to be precise). He is also the editor-in-chief of the site redstate.com. Erickson is unapologetic for his postings on the retirement of Supreme Court Justice David Souter, where he called the jurist a child molester and bestiality deviate.
Erickson’s post proclaimed: “The nation loses the only goat —-ing child molester to ever serve on the Supreme Court in David Souter’s retirement. . . .Lefties really get offended when you point out what David Souter does in his spare time with goats and kids.” I can only wonder why “lefties” would be offended.
Erickson, Republican, represents north Macon, later said that he does not actually know of child molesting or goat loving in his history but “It wouldn’t surprise me … ’cause he’s creepy.” What he says he does know for a fact is that this is “a guy that hates America.”
Erickson and redstate.com were profiled in Newsweek magazine in November and named the 69th most influential conservative in America last year by the Daily Telegraph in London.

Bush v. Gore
In 2000, Souter voted and dissented along with the three other justices in Bush vs. Gore to allow the presidential election recount to continue while the majority voted to end the recount based on the rule of law, making Bush the president.

If I may recommend a good article from The New York Times published February 20, 2001 by Linda Greenhouse “Bush v. Gore: A special report.; Election Case a Test and a Trauma for Justices.”
This commentator is one of the most influential conservative commentators? Certainly makes me feel good that for the past 6 years I ‘ve been voting democratic – likely I’ll keep voting that way even though W is no longer around. Guys like this and the thought of them getting appointed make it unlikely I’ll vote for even the moderate republicans.

The rankings sited are conflated. I believe Erickson had minimal if any impact on the donors who recently anteed up 100 million for the forty-turds presidential library. Getting me to believe this sensational maroon has influence with conservatives who fund the RNC is like telling me Bob, Esq. picked up the dinner check for Speaker Pelosi.
This man cannot get his factisies (fact as fiction) straight–it was sheep not goats. I know many people are removed from the farm in this mostly urban culture, but he could have looked it up on google before he spoke up.
Being retired, there would be some time to pursue that libel case.

Seriously though, look into Walt. He wasn’t a nice guy. I generally don’t allow Disney products in my house although I’ll make exceptions for “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” and “Old Yeller”.
And on an animation/artistic front, I’ve never thought he was all that either. Warner Bros. had the far superior cartoons back in the day even if they didn’t do a lot of feature length material. Plus they had the genius of Mel Blanc to play off. I listen to a lot of Internet radio at work and a fair percentage of it is old time radio. Mel’s work on the Jack Benny Show and his own show were a real eye-opener to this cartoon fan. He was pretty funny in his own right and you can hear a lot of things he brought with him to the cartoons.
I’ll say it again – all the GOP has left are sociopaths, the homeschooled, and the clinically insane.

That’s some quality work. Not only is he psychic and can read Justice Souter’s thoughts about hating America, he can apparently divine child molestation and bestiality by proximity. Let’s look at the logic of this conservative guru.
Justice Souter owns a farm.
And on this farm he has some goats.
He has some children who like to pet the goats, so he lets them spend time at the farm.
The Justice tends to side with human rights and restraining governmental interference in citizen affairs.
Ergo, the Justice unpatriotic guy who “hates America” and is both a child and goat molester.
Walt Disney owns a theme park.
And on this park he has some giant rats.
He has some children who like the rats so he sells them outrageously priced tickets to ride the rides and maybe, just maybe, get to meet the rats.

There was an interesting discousion regarding torture,between,Bruce Fein and Mark Danner here on the Journal on sunday.
As far as the name calling of Souter,these people who do that are truley scarey.And what seems even worse is that they are given a platform,from which to say what they say.

I agree with your comments about Justice Souter, but I cannot just whitewash his vote in Bush v. Gore as a mistake. He toed the party line in that case even though the facts were opposed to that decision. Obama needs to name a true progressive liberal who will follow the Constitution and protect the individual and reinforce the separation between Church and State.
This Redstate.com guy needs some serious medication for his problem. Could Souter successfully sue this nutcase for libel and slander since his comments and writings obviously show a wanton disregard for the truth? Calling someone a child molester with no facts to back it up sounds like per se slander and libel to me.
Considering that I have never cared to read redstate.com I guess I am the better for it. It is amazing, when you agree with the narrow minded single issued individuals they you are within the fold. It is a cult by definition.
I was disappointed in GeoI choice as no one had heard of Souter except the people that knew him. He initially was aligned with the right. I guess because he sat on one side of the semi-circle. In matters of social conscience he did what his heart told him to do, irrespective of political party. That is a Jurist not a token on the court or a pawn if you will. A true separation of powers individual, not aligned with any individual person or issue.
He did surprise me in the Gore vs Bush decision. I expected him to come out for Gore. He did not, I was disappointed, but it did not change my fundamental trust for him to do the right thing.
So now the neo-cons are blasting him for not hedging their bets. In Vegas you can bet on anything, well its just a phone call away. I wonder if the neo cons bet on the outcomes, somebody lost some money and they are unhappy. It cant be because they love America, if they did, they would have left along time ago.
