Look of the Lesbian: Virginia Prison Challenged Over Segregation of Women Who Look Lesbian in “Butch Wing”

fluvannaOfficials at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women reportedly know a lesbian when they see one. The prison is being challenged for segregating inmates by such telltale lesbian characteristics as loose-fitting clothes, short hair or otherwise masculine looks. They are allegedly shipped off to the “butch wing.”

The warden insists that they do not engage in such discrimination and the Associated Press says that the practice stopped after they began to question it. Yet, guards and a former worker confirmed the practice with AP.

The “Butch Wing” was also called the “little boys wing,” “locker room wing” or “studs wing.” Inmates say that they were verbally abused and called “little boys” and kept away from other inmates.

I think it’s wrong. I think women in prison have lesbian relations mostly by choice and not by force. This is just a case of homophobia.
