Former Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin left office with a signature attack on the media in which she accused of making up stories against the military and persecuting her family. There was no mention of the various Republicans describing her as an embarrassment or former McCain staffers describing her as a living nightmare. It comes down to the media and their war on America.
Palin told a largely worshipful crowd:
“So how about in honor of the American soldier, you quit making up things. And don’t underestimate the wisdom of the people. And one other thing for the media — our new governor has a very nice family, too, so leave his kids alone,.”
It was not clear what stories were made up. There are of course those stories that the military made up like the death of Pat Tillman and the rescue of Pvt. Jessica Lynch. Moreover, if the new governor wants to keep his family private, he might want to avoid making both his faith and his family critical components of his campaign. While all candidates contend to parade their families before crowds, Palin campaigned on her devout faith and small-town values. Complaining about all of the attention directed on her family would be like former Sen. Gary Hart complaining about all of the media attention on his sex life — after inviting such attention. To Hart’s credit, he did not blame the media and simply left the public stage.
Palin’s recent speeches seem to be a search for the best villain to explain her leaving her office early to pursue personal and professional priorities.
She might be right, however, about the wisdom of the American people. A recent poll shows her popularity continuing to crater with citizens. Fifty-three percent have a negative view of Palin and 57 percent of Americans do not believe that she understands complex issues. Her numbers among Republicans and Independents also continue to fall and Republican leaders seem to be lining up to distance themselves and their party from her.

They’ll likely never see Rusia again unless you can see it from NYC or LA.
rcampbell,
Sadly, I suspect you are correct. How’s “The View” of Russia these days?
By calling the press liars and other such insults, Ms Palin is counting on the media now fawning over her in their so predictable effort to now effectively say:
“Oh no, Ms. Palin, we aren’t liars. We don’t hate you. Tell you what, how about you come on some of our TV gabfest shows and you can spew to your heart’s content; just to show you how fair we are”.
For some reason people in the MSM, are still trying to give “The Empress Some Clothes”.
But they just don’t fit.
foo writes: She should pose for Playboy
now there is something she’d be good at. posing. tastefully.
She should pose for Playboy.
so SP hates the media and can’t stop scolding the press and yet she is out there smiling for the cameras everyday.
not that I’m losing any sleep over her being loosened on the lower 48.
she has no power here.
It is surprising to see that she has softened on this issue. 😉
One thing remains, however, she still has that “snake your booty” thingy.

So SP thinks the media is there just to report on made up stuff that nobody really said/did but the media folks just yanked out of the air…hummm..has she been watching fox?? Maybe she is going to be the political adviser for Cheeeney??!!??
What continues to be crystal clear is the role the different branches of Government play and what the role of the 4th estate is in the workings of a democracy. What Palin doesn’t get, and probably never will, is that it takes all four of these mechanisms for a democracy to function correctly, not 1 or 2…
She has got, as many folks do right now, the opportunity to review the decades of REAL REPORTING done by Walter Cronkite given his untimely passing recently and the real TRUTH that came out of his work…Don’t see a lot of that now days but there is something invaluable in learning from his adventures…If Palin wanted to do something real constructive for herself, she’d spend the next two years locked up by herself doing the study required to uncover the truth…not talking points from Hannity.
Freekin’ ding-bat.
One can only hope that all media forget that Sarah Palin ever existed, so we no longer have to hear her bleating.
“Palin 1122 up, 151 down
n.
1. Pejorative term that refers to an incompetent, impractical, irrelevant or incapable person who has been appointed to a position of great importance.
2. A person who holds authority disproportionate to his or her requisite ethics and qualifications. Derived from John McCain’s controversial 2008 Vice Presidential pick, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
John was recently made principal, but everybody thinks he’s a Palin who can’t do the job.
My new boss is such a Palin – he took my deserved place because the CEO is his personal friend.”
Anti-Military?! Every administration raises the DOD budget until now it tops $640 billion! If that’s not enough to take care of the troops, talk to the military-industrial lobbyists and their bought congress members. The American people apparently have no control over that spending.
We can no longer afford such military gluttony, especially considering the health care plan scored by the CBO at $100 billion/year will cover only most – not all – Americans and leave in place a wasteful – and immoral – for-profit insurance and hospital industry. This country’s priorities are so-o-o screwed up, and it’s idiots like Sarah Palin who perpetuate the madness.
What I want to know about people like Palin and her ilk, is how they are able to profess a conservative philosophy that at base believes in people taking responsibility for themselves and then always blame everyone else for their problems? There is a weird disconnect there that bespeaks a psychological disorder, or perhaps just a sociopath/demagogue. Then too there is always Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
Mrs. Palin’s final speech was remarkably like all her prior speeches and intended to deflect and transfer blame for her own shortcomings. As always, the speech was short on honesty about her true motivation for leaving office and obviously intended for those that will never doubt her real intentions and lack of relevant experience. My hope is that she either goes away quietly or retreats to a quiet space and becomes more educated about the world in which we live and the real needs of the Alaskan and all other American citizens. Then perhaps she can deliver on her promise to affect real change.

Given that the converse is also true, Mencken’s remarks now seen even more prescient, and that it has taken this long for a bare majority of folks to figure out Sarah Palin tells me all I need to know about so-called, “wisdom of the people.”
Every new generation of Republican leaders has its own Spiro Agnew. Ms. Palin has decided to embrace that role. It will make her much in demand as a fund raiser, but she has eliminated any prospects of becoming a viable candidate for national office.
“And don’t underestimate the wisdom of the people.”
–Sarah Palin
“No one in this world has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.”
–H. L. Mencken
Smart person … Mencken, that is.
Proff you just don’t understand: Unless it is positive media attention it has to be a lie. Come on did we not learn from the Reagan years? Or were those wonder years?
Wonder how this is really going to work: I got mind, I don’t wonder about yours; Nancy did not sleep with Frank Sinatra, despite the fact that they were in the bedroom for more than 6 hours together; No one ever questioned me about the Whitehouse Astrologer before I left Office, why now?
